Dean Smith sets up a really unique revenge thriller in Black! Tristan Cross finds himself dying at the hands of an unscrupulous enemy, but when immortal Ava offers him a second chance at revenge for the cost of his soul, he takes it. With a new identity, he must seek his revenge while navigating high society and finding a way to cheat a devil’s deal. Smith hits you with a quick pace and tense writing that never left me wanting! If revenge thrillers are your thing, definitely check out Black!

Black is a first time novel by author, Dean Smith. It was a gem of a find on Amazon and an impulse buy. Within the first few chapters of reading, it’s hard to believe this is a first time author book, as the writing style feels so accomplished. It’s a story of revenge, of a dying Tristan Cross who screams out for help and those screams are answered when Ava Asmodeus enters his life in those dying moments to offer Tristan a ‘deal’ of life, a new life he could only ever have dreamed of - the cost of this deal will be his soul. Tristan’s journey to revenge and through a past he must relive is one the reader feels every emotion he goes through. This is so much more than a revenge story in the journey through Tristan’s life that the reader is taken through with him. All of his heartbreaking story is so much felt by the reader. It’s a story of evil and of good and of every human quality inbetween and of the complexity of characters, it left me breathless at times. It’s a stunning novel that really stirs the reader’s emotions and I thoroughly recommend it as a must read.
