A secret guild. Four irresistible guardians. A sinister evil out to get her.
Luna is caught between two worlds: dark and light. Both want her powers for different reasons. Together with her four guardians, she must battle for her freedom, get vengeance for her parents' murders and stop a dark forces from stealing a powerful book that will unleash dark forces into the world.
Darkfire is Book 1 in the Guild of Shadows Series and is a slow-burn reverse harem.
The fmc acted like a child for most of the book not a 22 year old women. The characters were flat and had no depth and it has the obligatory mean girls who hate the fmc just because. The storyline was a little interesting but not enough to really hold my attention.
Quick Info Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone Part of a Series?: Yes ---------------------------------- Meeting the Characters Luna Prince Talon Cole Blaze ---------------------------------- What happens? "Four Irresitble Guardians" I count 3.... Luna is all alone in the world after her parents are killed by a demon. Believing herself to be cursed she plans on performing magic on herself and freeing the demon hiding inside her. However that is proved wrong when a gargoyle helps save her from him and then Cole saves her from a man claiming to be from the brotherhood. Final thoughts Luna acts too young, and then is doing sexual things with a guy felt a little bit weird reading that. I'm curious about the series and where this could go but it won't be a priority to read this. Would I read again?: Yes Would I read this author again?: Yes
This book had some interesting components but overall wasn't that imaginative and had more plot fails than anything else.
There were a fair number of times when some plot point would happen. Well the after effects would happen but the actual event was skipped. For example, one of the love interests gets into a verbal altercation with a colleague. A couple of paragraphs in and the love interest is aghast that he physically struck the colleague but throughout the altercation he never struck the other person. This happened several times through out the series.
There were a lot of situations that were so over the top to be implausible. The pacing was off, either to much in to short of time, or more time occurred than what was presented.
Overall I really liked this book. I like the story. I don't really like Luna. ,I think her over thinking everything and acting more like a teenager got to me. I'm hoping in the next book she matured a lot more. I love Blaze and Cole. Talon is my favorite so far. Hopefully there is more to him soon.
Luna doesn't have great self esteem after being moved around her whole life. I like Cole a lot. He's so supportive of Luna. I'm looking to see how things develop with her other guardians. Luna is just learning about the world of magic and other beings. She has so much to learn and is fighting to be able to do that. There are some big revelations for that will have a huge effect on her life. The Guild can protect her of only she will listen. I enjoyed the story. It's original with lots of action. I absolutely adore Brimstone.
*Spoiler Alert* Luna (FMC) has been on the run her whole lie and when her parents are murdered she gets a reality check about a life she knows nothing about. With the help of her friend/neighbour - Cole and an owl goyle (that seems to have made a connection to her), as well as Blaze and Talon (her rescuers) she ends up in The Guild. More like an academy for people like her. Luna has to find her place in this new world and find out why Camus (the head of the brotherhood. A dark and dodgy group). Tension, Trust issues, mean girls, steamy scenarios this book is chock full of it all. Its a great read and i really liked it
Ok Did this book live up to my expectations as I love both of these authors - well yes and no. It had the potential to be absolutely amazing but doesn't quit reach that level although BUT when compared to some books out there it is still really very good, very enjoyable read and I will definitely be following this series. I guess when you love 2 authors so much your expectations are very high so please don't let this review put you off reading as its still an extremely well written and enjoyable storey. Plus I really need an Owl-Goyle and you will have to read the book to see why.
What a unique take on the demons and supernatural genre. I loved Luna! She's like my spirit animal. Her character is so intriguing and interesting. I was captivated by the brotherhood and the guild. And those boys of hers.... Mmmmm. This book has me desperately wanting to read on for more hot scenes, more plot development and to see the bad guys fail! Luna and her men have me snagged into this story and trust me, you will be too. Bring on book 2!
Luna is awesome. with the way she sent that blood demon all the way back to Hell epicness right there and that is at the beginning of the book. Cole is so neat I really like his character a lot. Blaze the perfect aloof character and Talon the man who turns Gargoyle at night and don't trust her because of an ex. even with all these cool characters my favorite had to be Luna's Owl-goyle Brimstone. and that ending wow
Luna was born In the brotherhood, raised as a human Now she must hide. This is story of good vs evil. It has a kick ass mc and 3 gorgeous men of magic who love her. Luna stands on the brink of good and evil. Which will she choose? The book ends with a cliffhanger. I love where this book is taking me. Looking forward to book 2.
I struggled at first with this book but in so glad I stuck with it . Luna intrigues me and I'm enjoying the discovery of her past and the development of her magic. Love the Gargoyles and will be interesting to see how Luna and Brimstone work together . Looking Forward to book 2 and finding out more about luna,Cole ,Blaze and Talon and seeing where their relationships take them .
What an incredibly fascinating world this duo of authors has created. We get a strong female lead that thinks she is losing her mind as unexplainable things start showing up and attacking her. She goes on the run only to find out one secret after another that reveal she has power as well as being someone important. In order to train she has to be accepted into the Guild which is easier said than done. Full of tidbits to blow your mind, a stone owl gargoyle, and sexy men. Perfect for fans of fantasy RH. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Just from the cover and blurb alone had me intrigued with this story. I can absolutely say without a doubt that it did not disappoint in the least. Luna is amazing and I really liked cole. She doesn't know why shes in danger and cole is there to protect her and help. Then they meet blaze and talon and the guild. Couldn't put this book down and was so hooked on it the entire freaking time. Getting ready to read the next book because I seriously need more.
Action and adventure! Some steam and lots more action! I love coming of age stories and Luna kind of fits that as she is dumped into a world she doesn’t understand and deals with the curveball like the kickbutt heroine she is!
Good start to a new series. It was a bit rough at first trying to get involved in the characters and world. I found that Luna was a bit irritating at times but my hope is that she grows during this series I received this arc for an honest review
Oh my! I loved how the world was built and set up for this series. Let me call dibs on Cole real quick 😍I love where this is going within the plot!
The only reason why I gave it a four star rating was because Luna seemed a bit too awkward. I am crossing my fingers and hoping that as the series pushes on that she sort of grows out of it.
Darkfire is a great start to this series. There is so much unknown and we slowly find out little things here and there. Luna is a great MC and we are introduced to potential guys. I can't wait to continue this journey to see what more secrets will be uncovered. Definitely continuing this one!
I really enjoyed reading this book. Luna has know she was different most of her life, she just didn't know why. The story is engaging and entertaining and Cole is hot and mysterious. I really want to know more about what is going on
Wow! I absolutely loved this! Well written, this is an incredible world built by these authors. A slow-burn reverse harem paranormal academy novel with some hot and steamy scenes, a kick ass heroine and an owl gargoyle, you will not be able to put this down!
Luna has problems and they only keep coming. She recently lost her parents to a demon attack and now she's alone. She's determined to bind the demon that stole them away and then leave the town that she's in. She's ready for a new start, but she has no idea that the new start is not going to be where she initially thinks. Luna is special, but because her parents have kept everything from her she has no idea what she is, what she is capable of or the dangers that stalk her. She's more than got the hots for her sexy neighbor Cole but he definitely keeps her head spinning. He pulls her close one minute only to push her away and say that he can't the next. Dark forces are hunting Luna. They want her powers and if she won't come quietly and willingly...they'll take her by force. Other forces, once they learn of her uniqueness...want her, too. They tell her that they can help her learn more about herself and improve her abilities, but they too want to use her. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. At the end of the day though...she needs the help...and she has nowhere to run. Darkfire by Mila Young and Skylar Andras is an engaging paranormal romance reverse harem novel. I couldn't get enough of it. I loved that Luna isn't the typical kick-butt chick who is bold, assertive and confident in her looks, personality, and all that jazz. I like that she's more of an average girl who is shy and a bit geeky. All of these attributes draw me to her as a character because I can relate to her personality and physical appearance. The story is well-paced and engaging from start to finish overall. I appreciate the way that the authors weave Luna's life as a myriad of complexities. She's marked by the Brotherhood because of her family, but she's different. We quickly see that not everyone is willing to look past the mark she never even asked for and seeing her for who she is. I like the layers of story and characters that we get. They each have their own issues, stories and so much more. Here come my issues though - Luna is my favorite but when she is going through a test I honestly wanted to throw something at her. She needed to give it her best, but instead of at least making an attempt from the get-go she acts like a shrinking violet. I thought that after her encounter with the demon that she would be determined to do whatever it took to get better. Instead, she acts like her powers have gone rogue before and that people have gotten seriously hurt. I get that my complaint is two-edged but I can't help but be annoyed. Yes, her powers and the extent of them are untested, but it's not like she was out on a real mission and told: "survive or die." The slow-burn romance is great, but the back and forth with Cole wears thin at times. "He shouldn't but he wants to, "she's all he thinks about." Then his ex-girlfriend is slinking around and he's entertaining her. I understand that the authors are trying to give us characters as relatable as possible but we could do less with the back and forth of "being unsure." For me, it's a bit too much teenage angst. I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. I love the storyline and the characters, but their back and forth on the romance level gets annoying for me. Luna has so much potential with her magic and I don't want her running around acting like she had a major incident as a child and now she's terrified of her magic. She's supposed to be a geeky gamer and most, when discovering they have amazing powers, would be more than eager to try them out and become better. I'm hoping that they all continue to grow and develop as this series progresses.
Going by what Darkfire is like, this series is going to be an awesome must add to my bookshelf one. These two authors know what they are doing.
I mean who does not enjoy reading about strong female lead Luna, who fly's by the seat of her pants, but still gets things done. She does not understand what is happening, but is trying to figure everything out. With that can come some doubt, something we all go through. Its nice to see a character not always so sure of herself, made her seem more real to me, if not dorky in a way or should I say a more accurate word would be awkward. But that leaves room for her to grow and be more secure in herself. But she was fun to read about for me, she was fun, smart and powerful. I cannot wait to see what she becomes.
Overall I really enjoyed Darkfire and cannot wait to see where this storyline leads. I would recommend Darkfire for any paranormal romance fan.
So many questions I need answers too. I really like Luna she’s been put through the ringer and still standing. Let’s talk about the hot boys Cole the hot Neighbor she didn’t know had powers. His friends Blaze and Talon . I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
