The papers in this volume were given on 8th June 1979 at a symposium in Edinburgh sponsored by the Centre for Human Ecology of Edinburgh University.
They show why the present policy of generating increasing demands for energy through advertising, and meeting these demands through electrical power generation, is wasteful, inadequate and doomed to failure. they present an alternative policy approach based on matching energy supply to needs, and they examine some of the implications of pursuing such an alternative strategy. And whilst the alternatives they propose are based on Scottish needs, they have a much wider validity.
