Holly Webb is one of Britain's best-loved children's writers. She has written over a hundred books for children, and her work has been translated into over thirty languages. Holly lives in Tilehurst, just outside of Reading, Berkshire, with her husband, three children and several cats.
4 stars! This book was really cute! When I first was reading this book I thought for sure it was going to be sad. I have read many of Holy Webb books and most of them are sad but really good. This one really surprised me just because it wasn't sad. This was a really cute book and I would read this book over again.
I have a beautiful little friend named Mikayla who has a white dog, who looks similar to this one, although a different breed, but he is named Alfie, and so I got her this book as a little surprise. It is for younger readers than her self, but I'm hoping she will appreciate the fun aspect of it all. Anyway the story itself is pretty standard fare for this series of books, but it is a fun little read, and explores some level of emotions about having a pet and other responsibilities, and what you need to do to be doing to look after the dog properly. I believe Mikayla looks after her Alfie better, snd I hope she enjoys this little story about another Alfie!
I bought a box set of Holly Webb's books. I wasn't expecting to be affected by then as much as I was by this.
Alfie is a puppy who finds a loving home. The problems start when a new baby comes home. Alfie gets ignored, shouted at and neglected. His feelings and thoughts seem far too real which might be a reflection on myself.
The ending was as it had to be but it wasn't an easy ride to get to it. My normal rule of if a book makes me cry then it gets a high rating applies. Definitely recommended.
how dare them abandoned there cute puppy one of them walked on the puppy's paw and din't say sorry even when she walked on the puppy's paw , they are saying the puppy is being bad . but if you have not read the book you should read it . I felt bad for the little girl because she was a only child like me , but now she has to deal with her little brother , but she likes her brother. I do not like the part when the puppy was abandoned . That was a sad part ;( . But i really like the book and also now I completed the secret puppy and other tales !
When I first read this book I thought it was sad. When I next read this book I thought it was exciting. When I next read this book I thought it was a touch boring Now when I read this book I think: "Toooooooo boring for me!"
Do not read this book of you are over 7 years old. U will b bored out of yr mind!!!!!
Poor Alfie! He didn't even get fed. At least Evie got to feel how it was actually like without Alfie and realised that in the time he had been with them he had become part of the family. Even baby Sam liked him.
Read this for my kids as a bedtime book. Touches on conversations a young family should have before getting an animal.
My daughter cried. She realised how much responsibility you have with an animal and how unfair it cam be on the pet if you don't give them love & attention.
