An Orphan Girl. A Group of Wolves. A Destined Fate for War.

Don't you ever wish to find where you belong? A place where you can rest your head without worrying about being jumped or your possessions being taken from you? Not like I had much, to say the least.

A pendant, an ancient blade, and a picture of my murdered family were all I had left when I was five years old. Foster homes to homeless shelters, I never found a place of refuge. I simply didn't belong, and everyone made it their duty to remind me of my predicament. Until I finally came across a place that felt like home.

Sacred Moon Shelter for Endangered Wolves. I'd stumbled upon the sanctuary when I was near death, but I was miraculously saved.

Since then, I've become a Wolf Tamer; the only one who can get close to touching the six rare breeds. When I'm with them, I feel safe and sometimes wish I could be like one of them and escape this cruel world.

But such inhumanity strikes home, a group of hunters shows up, ready to take my wolves to an unknown place or murder them in cold blood. I won't allow them to kill the only true family I'd ever known.

My name is Harper Blake, and I vow to claim and protect my own.

Wolf Tamer is a new Wolf Shifter Reverse Harem Romance. Recommended for 18+ Audiences.

Rant ahead. You have been warned. If you liked this book, go ahead and stop reading.

This book was absolutely horrible. HORRIBLE. I usually love shifter stories, and stories with strong female leads. But the writing, the characters, the plot (lack thereof?) was just...omg. Such a train wreck. I only finished because I did receive a copy for a review.

Characters

Harper and Ian are the most perfectly perfect people you've ever met. Physically they're both a 15/10. Perfect bodies, perfect virgin sex (*gag*), and some of the most cringeworthy sex scenes I've ever read.
I guess the other reason Ian was protective was how "attractive" I'd become, according to others. Puberty hit me in the face at 14, and I went from 4'11 to 5'6 with the perfect set of breasts, hips, abs, and a "snatched" waist...I kept my brown hair nice and long, and it seemed to have the perfect shine that always caught the attention of the girls in town as to what shampoo, conditioner, and hair food I used on it daily...Now that I was sweet sixteen, I'd gained another four inches in height, and stood at 6'0. I doubted I'd get any taller at this point but I definitely didn't look sixteen to most people anymore.

^Stab me now.
Ian spoiled me with clothing that was similar to his. We'd essentially caused a new "trend in town; young couples left and right tried to wear matching outfits and look lovey-dovey.

^I just threw up a little.

Oh, the sex. Harper is a virgin at the beginning, and she is "claimed" as Ian's mate at the ripe old age of fourteen. She's eighteen by the time they get around to having sex, and while I definitely wasn't expecting any blushing-bride type scene, I do have SOME expectations and the writing for any of the sex scenes contained in this book just DID NOT DO IT FOR ME.
When he turned around though, my eyes immediately locked onto his length, and I kid you not, I could have fainted out of utter happiness. Ian was officially the whole package, right down to his damn length that I knew was longer than 6 inches.

Harper is also annoying AF, which is unfortunate since the book is mostly told from her first-person POV. For most of the book she's 21-ish, and she is so incredibly full of herself it's not even funny. I love confident female characters. But this went way beyond confidence into sheer arrogance and I really just wanted to slap her. Ian is just there for muscles and sex. He has the personality of a two by four.

Plot

What plot? Yes, there is this whole "wolf pack" thing going on at the rescue facility, and Harper has a strange bond with the wolves that stay there, as well as her own "internal wolf" that she won't tell anyone (except Ian, natch) about, but really it just goes in circles with breaks for sex until about the last 10% of the book. Then there is a MASSIVE explosion of an info-dump with ALL OF THIS STUFF that was supposed to have been going on in the background. I felt cheated. There was no lead up, there were no hints along the way (so that at least you could look back and have the "aha" moment), nothing. Just, "Oh, this is how we're going to explain all of this shit! And have some unicorns and glitter while you're at it!"

I still have no clue about how the paranormal is supposed to fit into the world of this book. Is it accepted by the world at large? What kind of governing body is there? Who makes the rules? WHY are there shifters? Why is this particular pack so important? Where did they come from? The only one that is even PARTLY explained is the last question, which sort of starts to be answered at the end but you know, cliffhanger. That I don't give one flying fuck about.

Last Complaint

In the first few chapters, Harper is five years old and Ian is seven. They have full on adult style conversations that devolve into baby talk for a few minutes and then go right back to discussing how they're going to educate themselves for the greater good. It's ridiculous. Has the author ever even MET children?

1/5 stars because you can't give zero. Never, ever ever ever going back to this series or author.

So... you know there are these two reasons for writing?

Like, one is that you write the book so that someday it will be someone´s favorite. So that you will create a story someone connects with the way you connected with so many great books and you think you know how to write something the people will like or even love and it might even change their day or days or lives.

The second one is writing the book you want to read. Like with the quote by Ghandi, instead of being a change you want to be in a world, you want to write the book you think needs to be written. As in, the book you desperately want to read but could not find, that would make your heart tremble and your spirit happy. And since no one really made such a perfect book, you decide to write it.

This book seems like a result of the second one. And not in a very good way.

Moreover, you know all those "silly" fantasies and hopes and crushes and favourite things and tropes every reader has? I mean, life is not perfect, readers especially like to dream about that perfect family/boyfriend/job/life they do not have in real life? Well, here you have them all - and they are a little more awkward and not so glamorous when put on a page.

I know how it feels to have the greatest idea ever and than put it on paper and feel like the world´s biggest loser. It´s hard - writing. It´s the hardest thing to transform your best and dearest ideas into a book. And it´s brave to put those things out there, to let your deepest desires and fear out.

But sometimes, creating a story from these ideas looks exactly like this - a story that really relies on your emotional response because technically, the book is not really that great. It may fight so perfectly for some people but unless this is what you also always wanted...

And I would know - I read, in many ways, very similar book and, let me just say, these two books are on the opposite sides of the rating scale. My reactions could not be any more different.

What I did not like:

- unique voice of baby and teenage and adult Harper, that were quite awkward to read, it was very obvious what the author was trying for and were she failed; the story I mentioned is also built from almost the same glimpses into different times of the hero´s life, from very small (not even like 8 I think) to collage age and the tricky part is/was, for both these novels, to transform a little girl/boy into an adult that would have dirty and steamy sex scenes, without taking the innocence from the baby but not getting the adult stuck in their innocent form - the book "In This Iron Ground" managed this so beautifully, having even more story told from an age where the hero was still young, smaller portion focusing on his later years, I was crying from all the things he was made to endure, he also had that innocent voice that told of tragedies and nasty things done to him by adults but while I had my heart broken and shattered by that book, I was sighing when Harper mentioned some guy wanted her 6 year old self to take a "bath" with him. It was not believable nor did it fit with the rest where Harper was supposed to look like a badass female with confidence and healthy and sexy apetite for her boyfriend. It might have been better to start when she was older but than, not that many things happened after she was older, so I would at least edit the bits not to sound so clishedly childish. This story type just did not worked here.

- I was very frustrated A) Harper had no idea all those wolfs were actually shifters and wanted to bang her B) those shifters shifted like all of once in the entire book so we mostly got just Ian, which would be fine it this would not be RH and C) this did not feel like RH

I picked up this book expecting some things, things the blurb and very nice cover promised. I guess it should get better in later books but for this one... no. I cannot even say I recommend it. Sorry. It, for some reason, really smelled of all that hope and likes that I talked about, like a really serious fanfiction writer that desperately want this to be true/to be their life. I mean, just the moment when Harper got a unicorn and she squealed "fluffy"... it would be bad enough but she had to go and point out to everyone she totally got it from the film Despicable me. Yes, I understand, you like this film, I do too, does not mean this scene makes the book better.

And this is very I end my rant because the ratings for this book are shockingly high so...

This is a sweet and exciting story of childhood friendship and a pack of wolves whose destinies will intertwine to become something amazing!

Orphaned at the age of 5 and alone, Harper Blake is a mystery. Found in the woods and saved by our MC Ian, she ends up floating from foster home to foster home. Until she’s taken in by the Sacred Moon Shelter for Endangered Wolves, where Ian also lives. With no clear memories, all she has left to connect her to her past is a pendant, ancient blade and a picture of her dead family. So she settles in to care for her “wolves”, earning her the name of Wolf Tamer, and growing up alongside her best friend Ian. Of course, it won’t be a while until she finds out who and what those “wolves” are 😉

From the time their worlds collide as young children Ian and Harper know they have a unique connection. They grow up as best friends which leads to a profound love as they get older. Just when they start building a life together a series of murders will put them in the cross hairs of some crazy killers. Intrigue abounds, and I got a peek into what her destiny may hold! Super fun! But there were a couple of minor issues I had.

I really enjoyed getting to know Harper and Ian the first half. But once the later part of the story begins and the action started to really suck me in, it became a flood of information and ended feeling a bit rushed. Don’t get me wrong I liked it but felt like maybe too much time was spent on the first part of the book and not enough on the later.

I’ve found that authors have to be very careful letting readers “grow up” with their MC’s. I felt like this author did a great job but there were some awkward moments that didn’t quite jive with the age. But that’s minor.

I will say that while sold as a reverse harem I wouldn’t actually call it that. Not yet anyway. I spent so much time invested in just Ian and Harper that I wasn’t feeling anything for her “wolves”. In particular the alpha Carter who is quickly introduced near the end.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book! With some interesting plot lines and multiple characters I’m anxious to meet I’m excited to read the next installment.

This is the third series I'm reading by this author, and I have to say, based the other books I've read, she's quickly becoming one of my favourite reverse harem authors. The worlds she create are so enchanting and intriguing. The characters are three dimensional and no matter how big or small a part they play in the grand scheme of things, Yumo always makes sure to not make them fillers! So I was excited to start this new series. But unfortunately this book didn't live up to my expectations.

I always feel that when authors decide to let the readers follow characters from children to adulthood, they run a big risk. First of all you need to be able to change the writing according to their age, and with in this book the language felt very off when the hero (Ian) and heroine (Harper) are children. They go from something that kind of looks like how children would talk, to talking about the greater good of their world. I don't have any children to myself, but to me that seem very far from something my nieces, nephews and great cousins would ever think about. Though, the setting is in a paranormal world, and Ian is a wolf shifter, things like that still needs to ring true. As a child Harper is indeed very lovable, kind, caring, humble and just cute! But as soon as puberty sets in, wow does it change!

Like that's not enough, she fancies herself and Ian the perfect couple, and envy of the town, which quickly becomes both obnoxious and tiresome.

Ian spoiled me with clothing that was similar to his. We'd essentially caused a new "trend in town; young couples left and right tried to wear matching outfits and look lovey-dovey.

While these quotes say a lot about Harper, it doesn't say an awful lot about Ian. That could be because he kind of have the personality of a stick figure. Besides for his love for Harper, I really don't know what makes him tick or even what kind of person he is. As the story progresses it is confirmed that the only thing that matters to Ian, is the relationship he have with Harper. So when he claims her and mates with her at age 18, he doesn't tell his Alpha or the rest of his pack until many years later. A pack, by the way, that Harper cares for on a daily basis. And while she knows that Ian is a wolf shifter, she never even considers that the rest of the pack might be. Yeah I'll admit, I found that really strange! But then on the other hand, how can the pack not know? The wolves keen nose should make it almost impossible for them not to smell Ian all over Harper. And since they wouldn't be able to smell any other man on her, how can they not already know who her mysterious mate is?

Until about the last 15% - 20% of the book the plot was kind of non-existent. Most of it revolved around Harper and Ian's relationship at the Sacred Moon Shelter for Endangered Wolves, and their search for answers about Harper. It's clear that her "imaginary friend" is really her wolf, but without knowing where Harper came from, why her family was killed or why she was hunted, they're drawing at blanks as to whether she'll ever be able to shift. Then towards the end BOOM - all of a sudden a lot of things are revealed, including why this is classed as a reverse harem. However, I find myself wondering whether it's too little too late. Because with all the focus being on the perfect couple (seriously??) , there haven't been room to get to know any of the other characters. I will still be reading the next book, and hopefully that will be better.

This paranormal reverse harem romantic serial is off to a great start. The characters are strong, compelling and easily capture readers’ attentions right from the start. The chemistry sizzles and the passion is hot while the romance is quite sweet. Harper tugs at readers’ heartstrings as this first part of the romance gives readers her beginnings and how she came to be where she is at and how she came to fall in love with Ian, her first love. The story is full of emotional turmoil and has some devastating events including betrayals, secrets, and outright lies which makes it hard put for any reader to remain emotionally detached from the characters and their story.

The plot is steady paced and covers lots of ground with the story starting off when Harper is a child with a very intense and traumatic event and the suspense just keeps building from there. The author created an intriguing world with a complimentary setting for her story which adds to the story arc and there are some surprising twists included in the story to keep readers wondering. So while there are a few minor drawbacks to the story, like the cliffhanger ending, the story fascinates readers and ensures that they want to know everything especially since the revealing of secrets during the conclusion builds up the suspense for the next part.

I can tell this will be a highly addictive series.  In this first book we start in the beginning when Harper is five years old and her family is murdered.  Left to die Harper is found by a wolf, "Wolfie."  Harper is special.  She just doesn't know it yet.  As the story continues we learn more about Harper after her family is murdered.  She gets adopted and grows to a beautiful young woman.  Her and "Wolfie", better know as Ian.  Ian is her best friend and later becomes her mate.  But Harper is destined to another.  But will Harper survive the Hunters who are out to kill her?

This is a page turner story.  This series has a whole lot of potential and wickedness to come.  I foresee a menage' in the next book, as it is hinted at several times in this book.  Hmmm.... I suspect a dirty dirty girl she will be.  The characters are well-developed and very intriguing.  The author has some really nice world building going on and sure does know how to add in a good twist.  Just when you think you know what is going on, something comes from out of no where and knocks you on your butt.

Overall all the book is an action packed adventure, with a mild dose of steamy goodness.  The characters are very interesting and the story flows nicely.  I am intrigued to find out what is in store next for Harper and if she will survive.  This book does have a mild cliff hanger.  It kind of leaves you wanting more, which I think is the authors plan to get you hooked.

If you like paranormal romance and suspense, then this book is perfect for you.  It has thrills and chills with a great dose of hot sexy wolf shifters.  Who could say no to that?  Right!?  So pick up this start to a great shifter series, you will be glad you did.

Harper's parents were hunted down and killed in front of her. Luckily she got away and found her way to a couple that runs a sanctuary for endangered wolves. There she grows up with another orphan, Ian, who shares his secret about being a wolf shifter. She fits right in at the sanctuary and sees it as her responsibility to protect the pack of wolves that live there.

This book started out pretty good but got lost along the way. I didn't like how all the reveals happened at the last minute in the book. It felt like the author was like, "Oh crap, I'm almost to 300 pages, I guess I better tell everyone's secrets in one chapter so I can set things up for book 2." That kind of thing bugs me. And yet even with those reveals, I'm still really confused about what is going on in this world and I don't understand Harper's purpose in it. I plan on giving the series one more book. I like the characters, I just don't like how messy the plot has been so far.

It’s super meh.

This book was ok in the beginning, but then towards the middle and end it turned into a “plot of convenience”. What I mean by that is that every single thing that happened in middle and end was way too conveniently placed to move the plot in a direction that didn’t necessarily have a good flow.
Then there’s the fact (without giving out spoilers) that based on the main characters relationships with her parental figures it makes little to no sense how she was betrayed in the end.
This book also doesn’t have a lot of world building. What world has rare wolves with teal fur? What world has kids with naturally teal hair? I want to know about that world. I want to know what other weird things go on in that world.
And then there’s the arbitrary racism, which isn’t typical in paranormal novels. And it’s placed so randomly! We don’t hear about the locals not really like black people, or about the racist character disliking black people, but damned if we don’t have 2 random assed scenes that hate the cop because he’s black. It probably would have flowed better to have the cop hated because of the type of shifter he was, or maybe because he was law enforcement? Idk.
We also have a woman that SAW HER FAMILY MURDERED, and had several shitty fucking foster homes, but only mentions her issues with ptsd in passing briefly. I’m not saying have her bitch and moan and cry about it constantly, or to have a 1000 issues, but after witnessing your family murdered you have problems. Even if you don’t necessarily remember your family being murdered in front of you.
Add to that, most of the main characters were kept in animal form the entire time. Literally right up until the final chapter. It wouldn’t have been hard to introduce them either. Even when they were kids, they could be introduced as part of a a homeschool group, nephews, play group, SOMETHING. Instead it’s the end of book one and we know next to nothing about a majority of the harem.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s readable, but it’s also incredibly forgettable and gives me absolutely no interest in the next book.

2.5 - 3 stars. I don't think I was expecting this at all. First off this first book in the series follows our FMC and at least one of the MMC's as children through the important parts of their life. I mean I don't exactly know what is happening here as we saw most everything through the eyes of a child but I didn't think the author really did to bad of a job, creating the atmosphere of experience through a child's eyes. I kept expecting it to cut to them being grown up but it never did. It threw me, I'm not going to lie, but it was kind of cute a really unique start. I mean 1/2 of the book was just them being kids basically. I don't know, it was just different.

Harper Blake, our FMC starts out running from monsters that have killed her family. Getting shot herself and falling off a cliff the monster/men leave her for dead. Rescued by a wolf, and taken to a wolf shelter, Harper begins her new life. Tossed from foster home to foster home her past and the awful people she is put, and her connection with "wolfy" the wolf that saved her, lead her back to the wolf shelter, Harper is special, she has a wolf in her head that speaks to her. When she tries to talk about it though everyone treats her like she is bad. So she is keeping it to herself, her imaginary friend. She finally tells Ian and Ian reveals his own secrets and she gains a friend for life. Harper finally gets adopted by the owners of the wolf shelter and they realize she has a special connection with the wolves there. As Harper grows up her and wolfy grow closer and closer.. The whole story progresses this way not really headed in any distinguishable direction until bam things blow up at the end and the reader feels like they are finally getting to the story.

Honestly this whole book felt a little on the long preface side.. I mean it wasn't that what I was reading was bad it just took forever to finally get to something that would push the story in the direction it was meant to go. No I feel like I need to head straight into book 2 because the story has just started. I'm down to see where this goes but I'm a little wary here.

Reviewed on http://bookaddict.live,
My first memories are from when I was 5 years old when I am running for my life and Ian a seven year finds me and takes me back to a wild life sanctuary specially for Wolves.
Harper Blake runs for her life , fighting for her life when she found by seven year old Ian. They become inseparable. While living at the sanctuary she takes care of the wolves. This is a great start to a new series and covers a lot of world building.
As we get to know Ian and Harper who spend all there time together. We watch them grow up and enter into a relationship and gradually she realises someone is killing female shifters. A great imagination introducing the world this book is set in.
I loved the wolves pack names Carter being the alpha with Ian, Liam men’s names. All through the book Harper has no idea their shifters. I loved Yumoyori’s great imagination and can’t wait to read the next book after all the revelations at the end of the book.

Mind Blowing

Okay I am loving this childhood into the present writing as it provides so much detail and why things are they say they are through the characters eyes. Harper is amazingly resilient after all she goes through which just makes me love her even more. The addition of the wolves is incredible and the direction the story is going just blew my mind. I was hooked from page one and with an ending like that I definitely need book two. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

First things first, I dont know any 6 yr old or 12 yr old that speaks this way or has the inner dialogues Harper has, her vocabulary is that of a college graduate! It's incredibly distracting n I've almost dnf several times already because it just doesn't come across as authentic. "Overall I was really satisfied with life right now" (11 yr old) yeah right. Come on! Has the author even got kids cos mine sure dont speak like this. Never mind the ridiculous speech at 6! I'm really struggling to continue this book at 29%. Just knocks me out the story every time she speaks!

Not good.

ok i give up, just finished reading the loss of virginity sex scene and honestly how old is this author?

Absolutely sickening saccharine dialogue, self love and admiration, boring uninspired sex scene and omg can this book get any worse? if feels it was written by a teenager for a teenager for which everything is seen through rose tinted glasses and we are all so perfectly perfect. the dialogue is so beyond bad.

i really wanted to like and finish this book because the next series taming my pack, book one is really good, you'd think it was written by a different author its that different (or maybe the author just grew up).

i suppose you'll enjoy this book if you're 16 years old, no experience, no life, no anything. it would be fabulous to read how perfect everything is.

for the rest of us its just too boring and too painful to read.

3.5 Stars!

The Review:
Overall, this was an enjoyable read. It had a few problem areas but I liked the characters, the story and felt it was a good start to what I believe will be a great series! I’m looking forward to reading more from this author and more in this shifter-verse.

Story/Characters...
Harper Blake was five when her family was murdered. Running from the gunmen through the woods and severely injured, she’s found by Wolfie, a young wolf who feels the need to protect this girl he has an instant connection with. After taking her back to his home, his family takes her in and soon, Harper realizes that the wolf that saved her in the woods is now her new best friend, Ian Chestwood ... and he’s a shifter!

I really enjoyed the cast of characters the author gives us. Dolly and Sam, who run the Sacred Moon Shelter for Endangered Wolves, took in Ian - who is the only one of his kind - and then Harper when they had no one. As Harper gets to know the pack Sam and Dolly care for, you understand right away that there’s something special about those wolves and it was fun getting to see each wolf and their different characteristics.

As much as I enjoyed the story, I questioned how Harper could be so clueless about her surroundings and who her new buddies were. She was a bit weak-willed and not as much of a badass as I’d hoped for, especially given this is a PNR/shifter/urban fantasy with a reverse harem. I expected a bit more after reading the blurb, but maybe that will come in the next book.

I really enjoyed getting the perspectives from her childhood to adulthood. I thought the author gave her a strong voice in both and her scenes were full of emotion and a good story.

There wasn’t a lot of action, but maybe that’s because there was so much story to cover. I also wished we’d gotten to know the “shifters” in their human form more. It was sometimes hard to get a read on them and connect with them while in wolf form. They didn’t make a lot of appearances on two legs and given that they wanted Harper and needed her, I’d liked to have gotten more from that perspective. But I did enjoy their dynamics. They were protective of a young Harper and enthralled with an adult Harper. That was fun!

Ian and Harper's childhood budding relationship was sweet and well told. Their adult relationship was sexy and tension-filled, just the way I like it. There was even a bit of love angsts thrown in, which is always a winner with me! I enjoyed Ian’s character a lot. He was kind and caring and also alpha and demanding. He knew what he wanted and his bond with Harper was believable and strong.

I do wish there had been more world building. More of why the wolves were the way they were - like how they looked - more about their society and their rarity and how the world perceived them. There just wasn’t enough explanations to satisfy me. I had too many questions at the end.

The Wrap Up:
Overall, I liked this book a lot. It had some areas that needed work but I’m really looking forward to continuing the story in book two. The writing was solid and imaginative.

Wolf Tamer was a great start to what I think will be a great series.

It’s been hard waiting for this book ever since it was announced as it paired two things. One of my favourite authors and they were writing about shifters.
I had high expectations for this book as I know the author’s writing and let’s face it wolf shifters are my thing. I can read any type of shifter but wolves are my favourite given the sheer amount out there and some of the most amazing reverse harem / ménages having them.
Now Wilson follows her own tune. Readers aren’t sure what they jump into this book except it distinctly Wilson. As Always there is a heroine with a bit of a back story named Harper who determined to find out the truth about herself.
The first part of her story isn’t easy. She is forced to adapt and we follow Harper throughout the years. Struggle to fit in and figure out her own past. Whilst it’s obvious the story is forming to set things up for the future. This story isn’t without its moments. I loved the intertwining of Ian and the other characters into her store who have roles to play. Whilst some roles are obvious and that Harper and Ian are key characters. There something off about the situation that Harper is in. As a lot is unknown and the wolves of the sanctuary seemed to be too interested in Harper.
Whilst this book goes through her early years to the present where things really heat up and everything is revealed. There still a journey to this point. Readers get to experience a lot of Harper’s first with her and see her bond with the wolves. It makes you wonder what is going to happen
Knowing this book was about shifter obviously peaked my interested , however I enjoyed the story. It’s unique and different. I like how the whole relationship has been set up and I want more know. It’s nice to get the background first and establishing the character before finding out the truth that is unknown still at this stage.

Wolf Tamer is the first book in the Claiming My Pack series, and right off, I will say it's NOT Reverse Harem. Not yet. It's leading up to it, but not in this book.

Harper watches her family being murdered and manages to escape, although at a cost. She finds her way into the forest and is found by Wolfie. She is then found by Sam and Dolly, together with Rogan, who put her in the system to see if she can find a forever home away from them. This doesn't work, so she ends up with them, much to little Ian's happiness.

The author tried something very difficult in this book, and that is to have the character change from being a child to an adult IN the story. Not viewing her childhood as an adult, but actually being a child. This is hard because it's a RH book, so you've got to have the innocence of the child, and then steamy, multi-partner scenes later on.

I did enjoy this book, although there were parts that didn't make sense to me. I'm hoping they will in the later books. For example, Ian has the ability to be an Alpha, but can't be bothered even though he and Carter butt heads all the time. He is the one who mated Harper first, and has been her mate for years. So why does he back down so damned quickly to Carter at one point. And who was the strange, disembodied voice?

I also would have liked more character development about Rogan, Sam, and Dolly. All three of these characters are pivotal to the story, but all three sort of fade out until the ending.

On the whole, this was a thoroughly enjoyable book, and I would carry on with the series. Like I said though, for this book, it's NOT a RH.

* I received a copy of this book with no requirement or obligation to review. I voluntarily read this book, and the review here is my honest opinion. *

** * An Orphan Girl. A Group of Wolves. A Destined Fate for War. * **

Wolf Tamer is a new Wolf Shifter Reverse Harem Romance. Recommended for 18+ Audiences.

Wolf Tamer is a paranormal romance by Yumoyori Wilson. Wolf Tamer is the first book in the Claiming my pack series and it is also the first book I have had the pleasure to read by author Yumoyori Wilson. Wolf shifters is something that my readings tastes go in phases with. Sometimes I love books featuring shifters and sometimes I burn out on the trope. At the moment, I am really into shifter paranormal romances. So when I saw a new paranormal romance that was a start to a series that intrigued me, I jumped all over it. And I have to say, I really enjoyed Wolf Tamer.

I love that our main character, Harper can interact with different breeds of wolf. I actually really loved that the author took the time to distinguish and differentiate between different breeds. It gave me the chance to see different personality types come out with the different characters. It was a cool touch to the story that I think added a lot of character depth and development. We saw the most of Ian, but we did get to see some of the other shifters. I loved Ian, but I am really hoping that we get to see a lot more of them in the next book. (I think we will!)

I had a love/ dislike relationship with Harper. In Wolf Tamer we get to see glimpses of Harper at different stages in her life. I liked Adult Harper but I didn't love the younger voices we saw. It seemed like she still remained pretty naive throughout a lot of the story. She eventually grew on me, but she did have quite a bit of growing up to do in a large chunk of Wolf Tamer. I think this is something that won't be an issue in future novels, but it was something I had to power through in this one.

I can't wait to see where this series is going to take us. Wolf Tamer ended on a pretty big cliffhanger, but I really liked the foundation that was laid with this story. I think we are going to get to know all of the characters better in the second book, and I think the second book has a ton of promise to really pick things up and expand on what looks like it will be a great series! I am excited for more.

This was an interesting read. The first 30-40% is about the heroine growing up, what happened to her and her developing relationship with her imaginary friend and future mate Ian. Aside from the intro, there’s not much action but a lot of character development and storytelling. The way the story was told had its ups and downs. From 80% on everything changes and like a quick hard slap to the face and much of what we knew is challenged. As for the plot, The heroine is not even sure if she’s a shifter or not and she def8nietly doesn’t realize the pack she’s grown up with are not only shifters themselves but her mates as well. For the reader much of this can be figured out but it’s rather annoying for us that the heroine is kept in the dark for so long. As for the RH aspect, well she only has one mate and lover in this book but now that the truth is out I imagine in the next books that all will change. I enjoyed the story and became very involved so I’m anxious to see how it plays out and what’s to come. I do hope that the storytelling side of the series is done because most of this book was just setting the foundation, a foundation that basically Crumbled in the end. I’m eager to see Her come into her powers and learn the truth of her identity. I also can’t wait to see her relationship grow with her pack.

Much as I usually enjoy Yumoyori's stories, so much of the book was through the perspective of, first, a five-six year old, and then a pre-teen and 16 year old. And that's roughly the first half of the book. I dislike books from a child or teen's perspective, especially when I am expecting an urban fantasy action story. I grew impatient for Harper just to grow up and the story to progress. Too many of the sub-plots were too transparent and when Harper couldn't figure out basic storylines, I was exasperated. Wolf Tamer was slow-paced, with very little action or conflict until the last chapters. Not a series I'll read from this point, but I love many of the other series by this author.

The start is honestly really bad, I only pushed through it because I've read reviews of the second book absolutely gushing about it. The end kinda redeems it, but honestly if you absolutely hate reading even just the first couple chapters you're going to hate this book. I'm excited to read the second book of the series though based off the ending to this one.

Holy Hot damn

This was a great book. Avery has done it again. About a 3rd of the book was her growing up and boy did it bring tears to my eyes when she was just a toddler because you just know that some children have been treated like that in real life. I’m so flipping glad she got to grow up where she did at the sanctuary. I’m confused over Sam. It felt like he did a 180 from being the good guy to sacrificing her so he could live. It just doesn’t make sense in my mind. Also that female voice at the end said something about calling and are they sure it’s worth the sacrifice? I sure hope it isn’t a potential mate bond they are sacrificing. They have gone through so much to get where they are today. I am disappointed about all the secrets though and was pleasantly surprised that she bought the sanctuary that Sam put up for sale. Can’t wait for the next one.

Uggg, I really wanted to like this book, but honestly I found it awful for several reasons:
1. Harper and Ian are so conceited it made me cringe, I´m all for being secure with yourself and all that, but honestly this book takes that to a whole new level, Harper keeps saying how pretty she is and how awesome her body is and how every guy in town has the hots for her. And she extends that to Ian, who is also fucking perfect and every girl in town likes him and together they create the perfect couple and create trends in town, seriously? Ugggggg.
2. Harper honey, you may be physically perfect but you couldn´t be dumber if you tried. She lives in the sanctuary for YEARS taking care of the wolves (knowing Ian is a shifter) and you didn´t even suspect they were all shifters?
3. Am I supposed to believe that Ian lives in the house and the others live like wolves all the time? Even though they are all around the same age? They are always in wolf form? They don´t interact with anyone outside the sanctuary? How do they even know how to behave? And why would Dolly let kids live like that? How unfair is that Ian lives with them and the other wolves don´t get to have a home and paternal figures? They are kids as well.
4. When Harper arrives home, Sam is super nice and disagrees with Roger in everything, he is so happy when Harper holds his hand and acts as a nice father and then, all of a sudden he is the bad guy? And Dolly was a spy? What the fuck dude, I know it´s fiction and paranormal and all that, but it has to be believable. If you create a world make sure you create some context and "rules" to abide to, because otherwise you only get an incoherent plotline.
Awful, I won´t read the next one.

Full Review on my blog!

Ever since reading Yumoyori's Starlight Gods series, I've been in love with her books, soo when I saw this, I knew I HAD to read it.

Wolf Tamer has the most heartbreaking beginning I've ever read. I haven't cried while reading a book in a while, until this book. It follows Harper, an orphaned girl adopted by a couple running a wolf sanctuary. But Harper is no ordinary girl, and she soon learns that the wolves she surrounds herself with are a more than they seem as well.

The story is told a little different from the other books I've read by her, we see Harper growing up from her 5 year old self on to the age of 20-ish. I really liked that this book gave us a look into her life growing up and her getting closer to Ian and the wolves at the sanctuary.

I really enjoyed this story. I loved the relationship between Harper and Ian because they started out as best friends and as the story progresses, they start to fall in love.

We don't get to see much of her harem until near the end of the book, well except for Ian, who has been with Harper for most of her life, but we do get a few quick looks at the rest of the pack.

A LOT happens near the end and it ends on a cliffhanger! I LOVED Wolf Tamer and I can’t wait to read book 2~

Harper Blake was five when her world crumbled around her...happy with her mum, dad and big brother until she sees them all murdered in cold blood right in front of her eyes. Her mother pressed the knife into her hands and told her to run from the bad men with guns....she ran with all she had in her little legs. Pop, pop, pop! The loud noises kept scaring her and she kept running....POP! Suddenly she feels a searing pain in her side and sees a hole in her body. What is going on? Even at five she knew her life force was pooling around her from the gunshot....she wouldn't make it. Suddenly a wolf appeared in front of her....she didn't even mind as she was dying anyway...maybe this wolf would keep her warm? She felt his fur which was soft....looked in his eyes and murmered "wolfie".... Little did she know she had just met her destiny. For Harper Blake wasnt just any old little girl...and Wolfie wasn't just a wolf. He had another side to him named Ian. Harper would awaken to people telling her she was safe. Instinctively she knew she was safe with her wolf and this new little boy named Ian . The people that looked after Ian said if she had no family, and if foster care didn't work out that she could live with them. Sam and Dolly seemed nice...and nice was what she yearned for after this nightmare. As long as she could still see Wolfie and this Ian boy she would agree to try foster care. Sadly that too ended in bad experiences when her so called protectors left her alone, abused her or tried things that should never happen with a little girl....and that's how she ended up back with Dolly and Sam.....and so her new life would begin. Little did she know Wolfie and Ian were the same person....she came to meet the pack of wolves that Dolly and Ian kept safe at their Sanctuary. From that first meeting Harper felt drawn to them all...even her imaginary friend in her mind trusted them....over the years she would learn she too was not your average human. She and Ian would have a bond closer than anyone else. Everyone jokingly referred to Harper as the Wolf Tamer as all the Wolves seemed to listen and respond to her. She would later learn how true that actually was.....join the ride and see what trials Harper endures...this young woman has a massive heart and light within. Her friendship with Ian born from tragedy is her saving grace. Through his love and friendship she starts to flourish. And through these wolves she becomes whole....if only the creepy friend of Sam and Dolly's, and his son would stay away. Things can't always remain idyllic...and soon her world would be rocked once more....all the lies revealed, and eyes opened both for her AND for Ian ....this book is a BRILLIANT and exciting start to a new series...filled with intrigue, lies, werewolves, magic, love, betrayal and one kind hearted kick butt female at the heart of it all. I cannot wait for the next book when she finally awakens into her true self. Where childhood stories become a possibility.

Had potential, but...

I had a hard time figuring the world of this book- okay wolf sanctuaries that have shifters in them to hide from actual society. Okay, but how is the world in this setting- why were they hiding, any other supernaturals in this world?! I was left with so many questions and assumptions based off of the wording. More world and character development is needed.

Sorry Spoilers:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

1) Why would they want a non human child being raised in human foster system?? 2) There was a lot of time jumping - I know it set up the stage for her bond- but she never even questioned in all those years if the other "wolves" were shifters?? It just all info bombed at the last possible moment. 3)There were no hints as to why the guys couldn't shift and show her sooner especially if Cater had liked her too for so long. This story was interesting and had much potential, there were just little gaps that with better editing could gave been better. 4) Oh and I don't particularly want to read crude verbiage of 16yr old sex. I like that tone only with older hell 18 would have been better. 5) It also took 4 more years for Harper and Ian to be "outed" in a relationship and the other wolves never figured out who??? Unrealistic, they should have smelled it like they did her change. 6)The audiences is only shown Harper growing up and developing with Ian but no one else- the wolves were little more than rescued "pets' in a way and the title 7) Wolf Tamer was never truly explained- I'm guessing it was just a wolf whisperer like title, but whatever. 8) also that was a complete 180 for Sam's character- a tad more build up to that vs. just disappointing for most of the book would have been helpful.

Yumoyori Wilson is a decent writer. However a lot of her books sound the same in a way- overly bright children with too lengthy lines for their ages, everyone, male or female, giggles (??), and blackouts or seizures. The latter was not in this one but in the preceding series. This book would have been a tone better with more world building and more than just Ian and Harper and a sprinkling of Carter in the last few pages.

The last thing that Harper remembered about her former life was her family being murdered and her mother yelling for her to run, to save the family legacy. With only her dagger and a picture, 5-year-old Harper literally runs for her life, runs as fast as she can. But it's not enough. She's shot and goes over a cliff. Presumed dead the little girl is discovered and saved by ....a wolf. She's taken back to Sacred Moon Shelter for Endangered Wolves and eventually, it becomes her home. The sanctuary is home to six endangered wolves and Harper is taught how to care for the wolves. As they come to trust and love her, she becomes known as The Wolf Tamer. But now as a 20-year-old, the hunters who murdered her family have returned still searching for her. Harper and her wolf family are in danger of losing everything, including their lives.

Wolf Tamer is the first book in a new series by Ms. Wilson. It grabs your attention from the first line and entertains you until the expected cliffhanger ending. Harper is a wonderful character. Ms. Wilson has a true knack for creating endearing children and then placing them in heart-wrenching situations. She's certainly good at tugging the heartstrings! You can't help but fall in love with adorable little Harper and appreciate the lovely young woman she grows into. Reika is awesome. No one does internal chatting better than this author; great banter. Love the internal relationship, love, and support. Ian, her savior/childhood best friend/lover/mate is wonderful. Pure male perfection, inside and out. But why does he have teal hair?? It seemed odd since everyone else seemed to have normal hair colors. Carter is also incredible. As his story is revealed you can't help but fall for him. He earns respect. The rest of the wolves seem like worthy pack material but I need to get to know them better before I can comment.

The story is a good one. Entertaining with some twists and turns later in the book. There is still much mystery to uncover. This book has some early inconsistencies, timeline issues, and unanswered plotlines but it doesn't take away from the enjoyment. I look forward to more.
