A Workbook Companion is an invaluable aid to students of A Course in Miracles. As its title suggests, it acts as a companion as the student goes through the 365 daily lessons of the Workbook of A Course in Miracles. It provides insightful commentary into the teaching covered in the lessons, detailed instructions on how to actually apply the lessons in daily life, and helpful anecdotes from the author's own life and experience of doing the lessons. It also contains a series of short essays which cover in more depth some of the particular practice techniques and methods found in the Workbook, such as meditation. This book is an invaluable guide to anyone doing the Workbook of A Course in Miracles, helping the student to put into practice the radical teachings of the Course and experience the inner peace and miracles that it promises. The Workbook Companion references are keyed to the FIP edition of A Course in Miracles.
A Thoughtful and Grounded Companion to the Workbook Journey
A Workbook Companion, Vol. I by Allen Watson and Robert Perry is a genuinely helpful and reassuring guide for students working their way through the Workbook for A Course in Miracles. Rather than trying to reinterpret or improve upon the Workbook, this volume succeeds because it stays close to the Course’s intent while making the daily lessons more accessible, practical, and lived.
What I appreciated most is the tone: steady, respectful, and experiential. The commentaries clarify the purpose of each lesson, address common points of confusion, and—most valuably—offer concrete suggestions for how to practice amid the realities of daily life. The authors’ personal anecdotes never feel self-indulgent; instead, they normalize the challenges of doing the Workbook and quietly reinforce that difficulty does not equal failure.
The included short essays on practice methods, such as meditation, add real depth and context, especially for students who want to engage the Workbook more intentionally rather than mechanically.
This isn’t a substitute for doing the Workbook—but it’s an excellent walking companion for the journey. Thoughtful, grounded, and encouraging throughout.
