"Captain Kurotsuchi! Stop smiling and run! How can you be so happy in this situation?!"
"How can I be so happy, you ask? Discovering a never before seen subject to observe! One that continues to exceed my expectations! If this is not joyous, then what is?!"
BLEACH's Volume 70, despite its beginning being a continuation of a Sternritter flashback, focuses on a battle between captain of Squad 12, Mayuri Kurotsuchi, and one of Yhwach's chosen guardians, Pernida Parnkgjas.
"What a wonderful battle this is." [Mayuri]
I wouldn't go as far as calling this fight as "wonderful", but I can admit that it was one of the most intriguing, incredibly creative and visually impressive BLEACH battles. Since I haven't witnessed its glory in the anime yet, my jaw was on the floor for, well, most of the time I was reading the volume. After going through 69 books already, I thought that I had some idea how the author's mind works and that I wouldn't feel as shocked as I was before, but damn, that man is totally unpredictable. When you think you have seen it all, there comes Tite Kubo with a loud: "Surprise! You haven't seen the best of me yet!" and shocks the hell out of you.
While I admitted that the Mayuri vs Pernida battle was visually impressive, I couldn't decide which side I should've been standing on with this one. The decision should be easy - the Soul Reapers side, so in this case - Mayuri's. But considering the fact that I absolutely hate Mayuri's guts and also the fact that Pernida actually didn't do anything wrong - reacted with attacks only because he felt like he had to protect the Quincy name - I felt quite torn. Neither choice seemed right, for many reasons. And both sides were creepy - also for many reasons. So I decided to be neutral, just this one time.
"He sure is a creepy fellow."
"Like you're the one to talk."
Pernida was the only mysterious one out of all Yhwach's guardians and I predicted that his real appearance will be quite surprising (why else would he be hiding this whole time?). But, oh boy, I definitely haven't predicted how he will actually look. Nothing, absolutely nothing wouldn't prepare me for this. It was as glorious as it was creepy. The images of his enormous body (body part... ???) hovering above the heads of the characters gave me chills. And the way one of his parts crawled towards Mayuri reminded me unpleasantly of the Addams family movie. There was also a... being like that, but, you know, smaller. Way, way smaller and way, way less threatening than Pernida. And without eyes. O my god. I feel like I will have nightmares at night and I'm genuinely scared right now 😭
Oh, and Pernida's power was really interesting, and well, incredibly dangerous. Things could become really bad for our heroes if he only decided to make them his puppets. There could've been a real massacre. I'm relieved that the author didn't went on that route.
"This Ashisogi-Jizou's nerves are on the surface of his body. So coming into a contact with the ground or even the air sends excruciating pain across his body... but let's ser that aside for now." [Mayuri]
No, let's not set it aside, let's talk about it! I always knew that Mayuri is a huge piece of you know what, and I knew that he was spending some of his time on modifying his Zanpakuto, but wherever the talked about it, it was on the filler episodes so I didn't gave it any thought. But this is not a filler episode. It's part of the canon timeline, and there stands Mayuri, laughing like a madman and proudly introducing a modified version of his Bankai. At first it scared me (because wtf even??) then I wanted to cry, because as much as creepy and terrifying Mayuri's Bankai is, he was a baby who was just born and all it felt was excruciating pain all over his body. It was a cruel show, even for a person like Mayuri. I feel a deep sorrow for his Zanpakuto, it deserved a better master than him (considering the fact that a Soul Reaper and a Zanpakuto share one soul, for Ashisogi-Jizou to get a new master is sadly impossible) 😢
"Do you remember the first thing you called me when I woke up? I really liked that name..." [Nemu]
There comes another person that Mayuri had hurt just in one single battle. Nemu, his lieutenant and so-called daughter. I'm sure I will go back to this topic in my review of the next volume (since it's Nemu's battle against Pernida now), but I need to say something. Nemu's origin story surprised me. The whole time I was under the impression that she had been made the way she is now. I mean, that she was made as an adult, so seeing the image of her being much, much younger was quite a shocking experience for me. How many members of squad 12 was there to observe her growth? How many of them were sending her smiles, giving her hugs and spending their time at playing games? Was that kind of behaviour even allowed, considering what kind of person Mayuri is? Did she had a good life, again, despite what kind of person Mayuri is? I want to cry when I think about it. And I want to cry when I think about how Mayuri is treating her in the present time.
"Do you know the toll it takes on me for develop the next you into the you of now?"
"I do not know."
"Then do not think for yourself! You do not have the freedom to die on your own accord! You die when I order you to die!"
This one quite tells volumes about what kind of person Mayuri is and what kind of relationship he has with Nemu. I'm shocked that there are people who think of them as a father and daughter. No. Just no. This is NOT that type of relationship. It's not even a captain and lieutenant kind of relationship. He's the master and she's his servant (if not a slave). All she needs to do is stand and wait for orders and when she acts on her own, even to help her master, all she gets is a punishment. Mayuri is unable to say "thank you" and he's unable to be gentle with a woman just as he is unable to act like a proper human being (not just because he's technically not a human, but a Soul Reaper). I understand that she's his creation, but she isn't an object that he can move around as he pleases, she's a living and breathing person with a heart and a mind of her own. She should have had her freedom and a life she wanted to. But what breaks me the most in this whole story is the fact that all she is focusing on is Mayuri's wellbeing.
"My mission is to protect you, master Mayuri."
"No! Your mission is to growth!"
"I believe I can show you that growth by protecting you."
The only moment she had went against orders is to protect Mayuri. She thought that she is living and breathing for him and I'm terrified that she will go so far as end her life for him. If only he was worth it. If only he was someone she could look up to. If not a father, then a caring creator. But he's just Mayuri Kurotsuchi. A madman. A crazy inventor with an obsession to find new species and to experiment on them. He's not a person she should give her heart and her life for :(
You should thank this one. The one who turned you from being powerless into a genius." [Yhwach]
Volume 70 is focusing on the Mayuri vs Pernida battle, but starts with a continuation of the Bazz-B and Jugram conflict. This was PAINFUL to watch. I knew that they will go against each other, it was inevitable, but since these two were friends as children, I thought that Jugram will be more... gentle with Bazz. Through the whole battle he was terrifyingly calm and send a blow after blow, not caring what kind of damage he gave his former friend. Bazz-B was full of anger so I understood his will of fighting, but with Jugram things are different. I don't understand what his goal is. When he met Yhwach, he suddenly switched sides going from Bazz's one to Yhwach's one (when he saved Yhwach from Bazz's attack). Part of me thought that when he was denying Bazz's multiple requests of a fight, he was protecting him in his own way, but part of me is not so sure, especially not after how their battle went at the present time. I can't believe that Jugram had left Bazz just laying there in a pool of blood. And I can't believe that this scene made me sob. I think that I liked Bazz-B much more than I thought and that I was too emotionally attached to the thought of Jugram's and Bazz's friendship. I hope that Bazz-B is not dead. I would riot if he's dead! (let Giselle and Liltotto be dead instead, please and thank you).
Anyways, I'm jumping immediately to the next volume. I'm nervous as hell, not just for Nemu who's up against Pernida, but also for everyone in Kyoraku's group that's currently being hunted by Lille Barro (Ichigo's group seem to be safe, for now at least). Will the heroes survive and enter Wahrwelt or will they be killed one by one? Who will the lucky guy to stand against Yhwach? Maybe we will see in the next volume!
Some of my thoughts that I like to share: (be aware of the spoilers, thank you!)
~ Did my eyes deceive me or did Jugram switch sides when Yhwach said "I need you" to him?? What kind of relationship did Jugram had with his uncle?? I want answers!
~ I feel like Jugram took his words too much at heart when he said "I'll be watching" to vice-captain Hubert. His job is to watch like a hawk over everything and eventually giving informations about Yhwach's powers to peasants that had no idea what His Majesty is capable of.
~ I have no idea what possessed Giselle and Liltotto to stand against Yhwach just by themselves. Did they have a death wish? Anyways, I hope that they are dead. For good, this time. I know, it's cruel, but they are more cruel that I could ever be.
~ I can't believe that Askin decided to stop to make yourself a tea while being chased by Grimmjow. The way he jumped into a run the moment he sensed Grimmjow behind him made me laugh out loud! 🤣
~ Part of me wants Hisagi to get to the palace, despite him being shot. Other part of me wants him to just stop and let go. I don't think that he will survive if he will get through the Wahrwelt's gate 😭
~ "Zaraki..."
"Yeah. It's nothing. I only lost an arm." - oh yeah, it's indeed nothing! Kenny is a real beast! 😯
~ "What's that?"
"Is that a question? Or are you talking to yourself? If you're talking to yourself, I'll ignore it." - as much as I dislike Mayuri, his interactions with Kenny were hilarious to watch 😂
~ Somehow I did not expect Mayuri to stab Kenny in the back. I should. It's Mayuri after all. Part of me is pissed off at him (how dare he?!) and other part of me is relieved, because Kenny would probably let himself be killed and for what? He's now paralyzed, but still alive. His strength will be needed later on, I'm sure.
~ Poor Hanataro didn't hear Nemu's warning or wasn't quick enough to react because he ended up being paralyzed too 😭
~ When I asked about Reio's left hand, I did NOT expect to see it on the Quincy side, as a freaking Sternritter. How is possible that Reio's arm is a Quincy is truly beyond me!
~ "I... Don't... Understand... You..."
"Don't worry, we neither." - lmao, Ikkaku 😂
~ How can Mayuri use a Quincy technique?! 😮
~ I knew that Mayuri's Bankai is a giant baby, but somehow I did not expect to see a giant purple alien baby giving a birth to another giant alien baby (a yellow one, this time).
~ The poor alien baby kept on screaming in pain, I was also in pain while witnessing it 😥
~ The way Pernida kept evolving through the battle was impressive.
~ I can't believe that Nemu went against orders and let her hand be cut just to save Mayuri for him to grip her by the hair and toss her to the ground like a sack of potatoes. Did I already say that I hate him? Because I hate him!
~ Of course Mayuri became a captain by modifying his Zanpakuto to become a Bankai. Of course. How could he spend time at practicing and becoming stronger in a natural way? That's not how scientists work! 😒
~ "To think that the day would come when I'd entrust a battle to Nemu... How degrading." - can I punch this guy? I wanna punch this guy! 😡

This volume begins with the end of the two Quincies going at it as we learn about their motivation through flashbacks and discover their true purpose.
The story-arc then shifts to Kenpachi and Mayuri going up against a very mysterious Quincy who will push these two, the former rather quickly, to their limits.
The oddness of this Quincy fits perfectly with Mayuri's character but man... if it were anyone else going up against it, I would've said it was too bizarre and insane to be entertaining. An emotional sequence between Mayuri and Nemu is what really makes this story-arc stand out the most.
I wish mangaka Tite Kubo didn't have to rush towards the end with these. It shows when the characterization is off.

Bleach, Vol. 70 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next ten chapters (633–642) of the on-going manga series with an additional bonus story.
After reminiscing about their shared past lives as children, Bazz-B fails at killing Jugram Haschwalth, with his final attack being avoided by Haschwalth at the last minute and have him sever his right shoulder and damage his left abdomen. Bazz-B recalls his past once again before slowly dying of his wounds. Elsewhere, Giselle Gewelle and Liltotto Lamperd also get defeated by Yhwach.
Meanwhile, Mayuri Kurotsuchi and his group encounter Pernida Parnkgjas, only for Kenpachi Zaraki to attack the Quincy and have his arm mangled by it. After incapacitating Kenpachi, Pernida tries to kill him, but Mayuri intervenes, saving Kenpachi and hurting Pernida. Furious, Pernida bursts out of its cloak, revealing its true nature. Much to Mayuri's surprise, Pernida is revealed to be the Soul King's animate left hand and arm. Mayuri engages Pernida in a long battle and due to Pernida having the upper hand for most of the fight, Nemu Kurotsuchi intervenes against Mayuri's orders.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Tite Kubo. The tankōbon continues the second invasion of the Seireitei by the Sternritter. It concludes the fight between Bazz-B and Jugram Haschwalth and focuses on the battle between Mayuri Kurostsuchi and Pernida Parkgjas. There are lots of interspection in this tankōbon as Bazz-B and Nemu Kurotsuchi both reflect on their lives and gives much backstory to the characters involved.
All in all, Bleach, Vol. 70 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.

It concludes the fight between Bazz-B and Jugram Haschwalth and focuses on the battle between Mayuri Kurostsuchi and Pernida Parkgjas. There are lots of interspection in this tankōbon as Bazz-B and Nemu Kurotsuchi both reflect on their lives and gives much backstory to the characters involved.
All in all, Bleach, Vol. 70 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.

It was a good volume and we get to learn more of the friendship between Bazz-B and Haschwalth and all that happened until and after they met Yhwach. Also Captain Mayuri fights this guy Pernida/The Compulsory and turns out he is the left hand of the spirit king and it was an interesting battle and Mayuri has good moments but Nemu shines here as we learn of her history too. Good story and the stakes get higher next volume!

Mayuri Kurotuschi, captain of squad 12, robocop wannabe, is undoubtedly one of my favourite characters in Bleach and he only cemented that fact into stone here in this volume. His fight with Pernida was bloody brilliant and beautiful. I loved Mayuris quote about science and it reminded me of one Senkus quotes from Dr stone which was a pretty cool coincidence. Its mad that Mayuri could genuinely be claimed to be the goat of the final arc, with so many huge moments, and none huger than what he manages to pull off here. Any Mayuri fight is always a pleasure to read because it is so god damn interesting, hes a mad scientist so hes always got something crazy to pull out.
Great fight, great volume. (The continuation of the Jugram/Bazz B flashback was as mid as the first part featured in the volume prior to this. Not terrible, but a bit mid ngl.)

In the last volume we saw some flashbacks from Haschwalth and Bazz-B, and in this one we get a bit more of that. We see them and their friendship and how they joined Yhwach. But now, in the present, these friends are fighting. In the flashbacks, Bazz-B was kind of a dick friend, but even then, seeing these two friends fight in the present was kind of sad. Which is something I never thought I would say, seeing as how they're the enemies and all. Lol.
We also get more Zaraki and Kurotsuchi interactions, which is just so much fun! One just wants to kill things and ask questions never, and the other is very analytical and just wants to see how things work. So these two total oppositions trying to work together is just a blast! Especially when they’re up against a foe that will definitely test them. My dudes, you guys gotta work together! Lol.
One of my favorite things from this volume is that we got a lot of Nemu action! I really like her! I feel like Kurotsuchi wants her to be almost like a robot and be compliant to everything, but every once in a while she’ll do these little things that defy him but make her more human and I just... These last couple of volumes have been picking up, thankfully. For awhile there, this (concluding?) arc was getting a little too cliche and boring. But, I like the focus on some of these minor characters. The minor characters that are interesting at least. I have always really hated Captain Mayuri with a passion, and he is one of the main focuses in this volume, but thankfully Nemu is thrown in too. Nemu is a minor character that was really fun to see more of. I hope she shines in the next volume!

Jugram and Bazz-B's backstory in 69 wasn't bad but comes to a quick end here and I wanted to care about Jugram but he does a 180 so fast all you can think is he is a horrible person for turning his back on his friend in a heart beat.
And then we get the world's weirdest fight scene which I'm sorry I'm going to spoil a bit because I have to wonder if hallucinogens were involved. On the plus side we get to learn more about Mayuri and Nemu which is just as messed up as you'd imagine it would be but they are fighting an ARM with an eye in it. I can't even.

Given that Manga, and especially Shonen is split up into bigger arcs as composed to volumes I will be analyzing and reviewing this by Arc. I also reread this manga over the span of 2 months, some days reading as much as 100 chapters a day. It would be quite tedious for me to review each 7-8 chapter volume. So this will be copy and pasted throughout all of the 74 manga volumes. That being said, if you're looking at this without having viewed the series...spoiler warning. I don't recap anything, but I also mention things that happen. If you want me to answer the question "Should I pick this up?" Yes. Even if you stop at the end of the Soul Society Arc. It's worth it.
Karakura Town Arc - Chapters 1-56 - Rating: 7/10
(The official page lumps this in with the Soul Society Arc however I feel as if they are two very separate arcs with two very separate themes)
- A fun introduction.
-An interesting premise on the idea of ghosts and demons (Hollows)
-Does a good job of introducing the characters and I especially enjoyed the love for characters like Chad, Orihime and Uryu as these characters would later lose more and more spotlight as the series went on.
-It is a bit of a monster of the week. When it works, like with Chad's introduction story. It works. But Characters like Don Kanonji felt superficial and very gimmicky. Which, fair. I didn't enjoy them as much.
Soul Society Arc - Chapters 57-182 - Rating: 10/10
-The height of Bleach
-Establishes an afterlife seemingly perfectly. Later on revealed to be full of plot holes and never fleshed out but hey! That's not an issue in THIS arc. The fights are top tier, the themes of Ichigo owing a life debt to Rukia and his passion and determination to rise above literally God's army is inspiring and to this day is why I love Ichigo so much. He doesn't have some grandiose plan. He doesn't have a major goal to accomplish. He is a protector by heart, losing his mother has made him sour to failing to protect those he cares about and he'll do anything in his power never to feel that helpless again. Very powerful stuff.
-The twist near the end of this arc is revolutionary and would make waves for the next 200 chapters onward. A perfect ending and set up for the forthcoming arc.
-The only issues I have for this arc would be Ichigo's lightning speed progression. The guy goes from being able to barely defeat a third seat to besting multiple captains in roughly 100 or less chapters. I get that that is the point and him defeating captains was more of a struck of luck, but progression and pacing wise it feels very unearned and a factor of "for the plot he needed to be this strong" It only seems as fast as it is because Ichigo's progression slows drastically down for the rest of the story moving foreword so it's only now that I make that criticism.
-Also, and this will be an issue in most Shonen. There are 13 Captains with 13 Vice Captains and seats that branch all the way to 10 I believe? Regardless, there's a fudge ton of characters that are introduced here and it can get a little jarring at times. Luckily, Kubo does a great job at making their designs and characters unique despite such a large cast.
Hueco Mundo Arc - Chapters 183-423 - Rating 7/10
-This is another arc where personally I would split it up into two separate arcs. But for the sake of this review I will simply refer to the first half of the arc and the later half of the arc. First Half 9/10. Second Half. 5/10.
-The first half of this arc is a great continuation of the last. Ichigo now struggles with his inner demons and it affects his ability to protect the ones he loves. We are also introduced to a deadly unknown new villains. The Arrancars/Espada to this day remain one of my favorite villain factions in all of manga enemies.
-Just so you're aware I would say the first half of this arc ends right around the point of Ichigo vs Grimmjow. Grimmjow is one of the first Arrancar that Ichigo faces. And he's also one of two Espada that he faces three times. The conclusion of that fight shows Ichigo conquering his inner demons. Where Grimmjow is very much fighting to establish himself. Grimmjow has to fight Ichigo to prove to his fallen comrades that he is as good as he says he is. He doesn't care about Aizen, he doesn't care about the rest of the Espada. It is very personal for him. For Ichigo, Orohime is within his grasp of saving and he views this as his "final" battle. It's my favorite fight in all of Bleach.
-However, this is where things start to take a bit of dip in quality in my opinion. We had a goal and we were striving towards that goal. Each character of the original cast coming to repay the debt they made to their friend who had risked her life to save them in the Soul society arc. But somewhere along the way it seems we just had a fighter fest. Captains would face enemies with no themes or character revelations. The Espadas got a little light but nothing that made their fights compelling. You almost just feel bad for the Espada as they were monsters turned into a military force by an unstoppable tyrant. But even that wasn't enough to make half of the fights interesting. Now, that's with knowing the outcome. These fights played little importance in the larger scheme of things. Where at least in the Hueco Mundo fights each match up had the protagonists striving for a goal. Rukia to defeat Aaroneiro to free her former superiors soul. Byakuya to defend Rukia. Renji and Uryu teamwork. Nel to protect Ichigo and get revenge on Nnoitra. Whereas Stark fought Kyoraku.....cause.....and Hitsugaya fought Halibel because Water vs Ice would be cool.
-This leaves me to the end. I won't say it wasn't satisfying that Ichigo was able to defeat Aizen. And yes, I do feel like his new power was earned. 3 months of training. But this was clearly a last minute decision to save Aizen for a later date and the show must go on. I do feel like it wasn't as satisfying as 200+ chapter buildup needed to be.
The Fullbring Arc - Chapters 424-479 - Rating: 8/10
-A very underrated arc. And yes, I acknowledge that rating wise I think the Fullbring arc is superior to the Hueco Mundo arc. That is mostly true. Though I like the first half of the Hueco Mundo Arc more than the Fullbring arc. The end of the HM arc really brought it down for me. The Fullbring Arc is much more concise and is actually the shortest arc in the series and works as a glorified Ichigo getting his powers back arc. But that doesn't mean its bad.
-When I read it originally back when it was coming out in 2010. (Cause I'm Old) It wasn't phenomenal. In fact, I hated it. But wouldn't you? It took just short of a year to get to the point that we were at. But upon rereading it, it gave much deserved love to the characters who hadn't been shown love in quite some time. The original cast. It was a very character focused arc. Ichigo never seemed more human. And despite me hating it before for taking so long, reading weekly can sometimes hurt these mystery based arcs. The twist is heavily foreshadowed and I really appreciated it.
-That being said, the end was super rushed. This was a big bummer for me. The villains this time around were humans. And the ones who had the most exposure and relations with these characters were the original cast who again....were humans. So to have the soul reapers, who have no connection to the fullbringers show up and basically no diff most of the fullbringers felt very forced and fanservicey to me. This very well could have not been Kubo's call. As the community was very vocal about their dislike for this arc as it was going on. But I appreciate it now much more as I appreciate character and story over big sword fights. Lol.
The Thousand Year Blood War Arc - Chapters 424-689 - Rating: 5/10
-And we're finally here. The final and largest arc within the Bleach story. And man...does it not stick the landing.
-That being said, this arc has phenomenal moments. Kenpachi's Shikai and Bankai. Ichigo's double swords. Renji's true Bankai. Rukia's Bankai. And many more. However, they are put together against the most break neck speed arc that I have ever read. Kubo was very ambitious when he introduced 26 new villains. However, most of them got barely any screen time and a lot of them even got off screened by higher level captains. This was unlike the Espada who each got a full double page spread for their Resurrections.
-Yhwach himself was a phenomenal villain but was dealt with swiftly and imo dirty. They did him dirty.
-There was just something off. The mood changed and it was very apparent. The villains had random powers instead of the powers reflecting their personalities or needs. The finale felt so underwhelming.
-Ichigo gets to be the strongest he's ever been....but he doesn't defeat a single person besides the main villain despite being in several fights.
-It isn't a good arc. In fact, I would say it's the worst. Hopefully the anime does a better job with this already mammoth of a story. 260 chapters is no joke.
This gives the story of Bleach an Overall rating of 7.4/10. Which to me is above average. It has it's ups and downs. It's not perfect. But when it's high, it's peak shonen. But when it's low, it's very forgettable.

August 20, 2022Bazz B has worked hard to get close to Yhwach in order to kill him. But he never expected Jugo to succeed where he himself failed. When Jugo tells Yhwach there must be a mistake, the Quincy tells him that he has seen Jugo’s power, which is the same as his own – the power to share power. And now, years later, Jugo is trying to prevent Bazz from killing Yhwach, which was the goal all along. What’s up with that?
Grimmjow takes off after one of the Quincies, leaving Ichigo and the others behind, wondering where he went. But Grimmjow ends up poisoned for his troubles. Meanwhile, Kurotsuchi and Kenpachi find themselves face-to-face with an extremely weird Quincy (coming from Kurotsuchi, that’s saying something!). Kurotsuchi attempts to keep Kenpachi from being too impetuous, but that is easier said than done. While the two captains debate how to handle this fellow, Ikkaku, Yumichika, and Nemu discuss just why they can’t interfere with their captains. Namely because they would be severely chewed out for doing so. They seem uneasy at the idea that Kurotsuchi is about to release his rather poisonous bankai. The Quincy shows itself to be more than they realized… and so does Nemu.
Not a lot of Ichigo et al in this volume, but I suspect his time is coming soon. Only four more volumes to go! This one has more to do with Bazz B and Jugo, but mainly it’s the Kurotsuchi/Kenpachi show, which is well worth the price of admission! Watching the odd Captain of the 12th Squad is fascinating, as he hasn’t been seen as much in these books as some of the others. With Bleach 70, we finally get some backstory on the most mysterious of the Gotei 13: 12th Division Captain Kurotsuchi (science division) and his Lieutenant/creation Nemu. We also get more of the backstory/battle between Jugram and Bazz-B as they confront their pasts and how both have changed since they were children.The Kurotsuchi battle is especially interesting because everyone knows it is going to be very strange. Interestingly enough, Kenpachi joins the fray with his usual bluntness, much to Kurotsuchi's annoyance (but of course he will use it to his advantage). This time they are fighting the left arm of the soul king - the Quincy Pernida - which pretty much amounts to a giant hand with an eyeball in the palm.
Most of the story focuses on Nemu - the 'modified soul' created by Kurotsuchi from his own blood using the Soul Society lab. She's starting to gain some independent thought, which is surprising to her and the other Soul Society fighters on the scene. But she still remains fiercely loyal to her creator and selflessly defelcts all damage directed to him (which he scoffs at since he believes he is indomitable).
In all, one of the weirder battles but definitely showcasing Kubo's incredible imagination. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Y llega el tomo setenta, tomo en el que marca ya el inicio del fin de Bleach, no llegaremos al 80, ni tan sólo al 75… lo tenemos cerca.
Éste volumen nos trae el combate entre dos capitanes (quizás más bien uno) y un Quicy raro de cojones, que nos sigue confirmando que lo que el autor nos ha contado sobre los Quincy (humanos capaces de usar las partículas espirituales) es pura patraña, porque los poderes de ésta gente hacen lo que quieren.
El combate en sí es realmente emocionante, de los más emocionantes de los últimos 20/30 tomos, con un personaje que es carisma puro enfrentándose a algo que uno no sabe cómo catalogar. El problema es que el autor hace trampas en todo momento, algo que sucede cuando los límites de los poderes de los personajes no están absolutamente marcados, y cuando puede que te salgan con algo totalmente nuevo que no habíamos visto hasta el momento (y que quizá no tenga relación con lo ya visto).
En fin, tampoco es que espere mucho de éste tramo final de Bleach, quizás lo que me ha ofrecido éste tomo setenta: dibujo molón, acción bien narrada y algún que otro flashback para que pase todo mejor y no se haga pesado. Es evidente que la calidad de la otra está lejísimos de la que tenía al empezar y que ahora sólo nos queda desearle una muerte lo más digna posible.

Arc 11: The Thousand Year Blood War
Bazz-B is the genius one while Haschwalth have no talent. Yhwach said that Haschwalth possessed a same power as his; to give other power that's why Bazz-B become genius. Haschwalth accepted to be Yhwach's right hand. After 3 years, Bazz-B was accepted as a Sternritter. Right now, from friend to foe, Bazz-B faced Haschwalth but he is defeated. At the same time, Liltotto and Giselle attack Yhwach but they were defeated. Grimmjow fight Nakk Le Vaar, Barro ready to snipe the separate group of Gotei 13. Mayuri and Zaraki confronted Pernida. Zaraki limbs being crushed by Pernida as he can control someone body using the nerves. Pernida show his true self as the left arm of Soul King. The battle between Mayuri and Pernida begins. He used new form of his Bankai: Konjiki Ashisogi Jizou: Matai Fukuin Shoutai. A giant baby was born from his Bankai. Suddenly, the giant baby exploded. Mayuri was cornered and Nemu joined the fight to save Mayuri. Nemu is a project by Mayuri initially called Nemuri Nanagou. Her mission is to grow not to fight. But right now, she is fighting Pernida. She convert her soul into super strength.

This was a quick read. We get more background on Haschwalth and Bazz-B. We also see the conclusion of their fight. There's a very brief cameo of Ichigo and his group. I'm talking like four pages, although Kubo manages to add humor in those few panels. And then we move onto the fight between Zaraki, Kurotsuchi and the Quincy Parnkgjas.
First of all, I don't like Kurotsuchi. He's insane, and cruel, and immoral. And the fact that he not only dabbles but enjoys experimenting on and torturing other beings is touched on but kind of ignored? He's basically an evil scientist, think Nazi levels, and that's never dealt with. At least it hasn't been dealt with at this point and we're in Volume 70.
I honestly don't know who I should be rooting for in this fight. I know I'm meant to root for the Court Guards captain, and for the most part I do, but Kurotsuchi is one I just cannot root for. Maybe he'll die in the next volume? It's doubtful, but one can hope, I guess. I'm requesting the next volume as soon as I'm done with this review.

As much as I wish we had a little more time between Bazz-B and Haschwalth, I like how their fight came to an end and how we see a conclusion to their flashback. I like how the different groups of protagonists have split up, and I liked seeing Mayuri fight with Pernida. Pernida’s reveal was interesting and creative, and I loved the pairing of their fight with Mayuri. It was cool seeing Mayuri’s modified Bankai and I like how the character is constantly evolving himself and how his science is “bastardizing” so much of the rules of being a Soul Reaper. I loved the creative fight sequence in this one and I loved the flashback involving Nemu and her history with Mayuri. It was very interesting seeing Nemu join the fight and I’m curious to see where this plot point goes in the next volume.

This volume of Bleach begins with a lengthy flashback sequence to give us some perspective between two friends turned enemies. Haschwalth and Bazz-B's backstory is an interesting one and while to me it in no way was a tearjerker, it was interesting how Tite Kubo shows what can tear friends apart...further building up the evil that is Yhwach. Plus, one of the most unlikely Soul Reaper Captain team-ups to hit this title...since it was created appears in this volume. Always beautiful and crisp artwork and engaging and interesting story. This series continues to march to a conclusion you can feel coming...and it feels like VERY SOON!

Sigh.
Recuperare gli ultimi volumi di "Bleach" mi ricorda quanto ho amato e quanto continui ad amare alla follia questo manga, nonostante quel finale tirato via che non si meritava per nulla.
La battaglia fra Kurotsuchi e Pernida resta una delle mie preferite nell'ultima fase della guerra contro Yhwach e l'inventiva di Kubo nel tirar fuori certi poteri, certi scontri e certe riflessioni - nonché quel suo adorabile gusto per un grottesco assolutamente artistico - mi stupisce sempre.
Che peccato che sia finito così troppo presto, sigh.

Most of this volume is about Mayuri and Nemu. Mayuri fights a Quincy with a weird look, a supposedly strange origin, and a kind of silly power. He busts out his own weird powers with super-science gadgets. The fact that the volume actually spent a long time on one fight, and gave it numerous back and forths, made it one of the more interesting fights this series has had in a while- unfortunately it doesn't look like an "important" fight and isn't going to change the outcome of the series in the slightest.

This arc was much more interesting than the Fullbring arc. We saw more from characters I care about more, and the deeper history of Soul Society was more interesting. I was disappointed in Uryu's limited role (greatly). I still think the Aizen arc was the way it should have ended, but this at least answered a few more critical questions and gave readers the ending they were really looking for, which might have been the point of these arcs to begin with.
