I broke my promise the minute I saw her. Not in the way you probably think, though. It wasn’t a promise to take care of her because it was love at first sight. It was a promise to let her know, to let her know just what happened … Yes, she was beautiful, perfect really, but what I saw made her ugly. So, I broke my promise because she didn’t deserve to know. And then I took her because she deserved to suffer the way I had—emotionally. Alone even when surrounded by people. Lonesome for eternity. She’d be my wife so she could live beside me, never finding love but only the indifference and hate I bestowed upon her. Who would want that kind of life by choice? Who would want to shackle themselves to a scarred man—both physically and mentally? I didn’t give her a choice. I gave her an ultimatum, and she couldn’t refuse. And I vowed she’d live a lonely life with a husband right beside her. That’s the thing about vows … Sometimes, they are broken. And promises? Sometimes, you manage to keep them even when you don’t want to.
DC Renee is a contemporary romance fiction author who tends to write stand alone novels that always shock you with a twist. She's been writing all her life. It started with adorable rhyming poems as a kid for anniversary and birthday presents, moved onto monologues and short stories as a teen, then transitioned to fan fictions before she found the courage to publish a book.
DC lives in sunny and (mostly) warm Los Angeles with her husband and their two toddlers - a girl and boy that want to "work just like mama," often climbing in her lap and "writing" on her computer. She's very close with her entire family - extended included, and her sister is her muse.
When she's not working, writing, and spending time with the family, she loves watching mindless TV, tinkering with diy projects, and of course, reading.
He: I will make you suffer. You will do what I say. You will be my wife. I’m cruel I’m monster I will do this .... I will do that... I will..... I blah Blah Blah.
He was saying these things to her and it felt like he was convincing himself than her. He felt rather dull. He was all talk no show. I will do this and that and blah blah. But he doesn’t even touch her without her permission.
She: He kidnapped me. Oh god. But wait... He hasn’t physically harmed me or raped me yet. He seems nice.
Most of the book the H wears a mask as half of his face is disfigured. He wears various type of mask on his face. Then again he starts wearing these prosthetic mask so he could sleep with it without the worry of it falling off in his sleep so he could sleep with her and she couldn’t see his face. He hide his face because he didn’t wanted anybody’s pity glances. I was quite intrigued by his face mystery. And I really had zero clue as to why he kidnapped her. The way he behaved it seemed like she has done something to him personally. But that was not the actual case.
So basically the book is about him kidnapping her then she pushing him away. Then later when she falls in love with him he pushes her away. Then again when the whole mystery is solved, she pushes him away. Push Pull Push Pull
Wow. I know I'm not going to do this book the justice it deserves. This story is so good I know I won't have the words to give it the review it deserves.
Tyson believes he's a monster. He truly believes he doesn't deserve happiness or love and this has him holding onto his past.
Lila doesn't think she has been a good person but she's trying her best now.
Tyson wants Lila to feel loneliness and be as unhappy as he is. Can she break down his barriers?
This is one fast paced read. I honestly couldn't put it down. I had goosebumps reading parts, I wanted to throw my kindle while reading parts and then the tears came. Yes I shed tears. This is without a doubt going to be one of my favourite reads this year. I cannot wait to see what this author writes next.

~ 4 I Promise Stars ~
I have to be honest and say I was expecting this read to be on the darker side after reading the blurb, but it wasn’t as dark as I would’ve like.
DC Renee touches on some dark elements of the storyline, but never really gets that dark or overly graphic in this story.
I found the storyline interesting and it held my attention throughout the whole book. I also enjoyed the characters she introduced us to. I got the Beauty and the Beast vibe while reading this book. (and I loved that movie) but DC made it her own. I will say though as I read this book it reminded me a lot of her first book I ever read by her. The storylines were different but the underlying theme of the story seemed a little close to Let Me Go. Don’t get me wrong this is not the same story and didn’t take away my enjoyment of the book, just felt it was similar.
In this book we follow the story of Tyson and Lila. Tyson is a broke, flawed and scarred man who blames Lila for things that happened in his past. He is so caught up in hating her, that he focuses on revenge and making her pay for her part in his heartache. Now Lila on the other hand isn’t as flawed and broken, but she isn’t an angel either. She may have not made the best choices when she was younger, but she has vowed to change her life and the way she is towards others. Most of this story is about a Promise that Tyson has made and believes in sticking by, until he sees Lila and something changes. Determined to make her his wife and live a life she didn’t choose or want, is how he feels he can make her pay. I loved the suspense of the story and this Promise kept me guessing all the way through. I would’ve liked it to come out a little sooner, but it was still entertaining.
I thought the pace and flow of the story was well written. This book is a standalone novel and it was told in Dual POV. If you are a fan of dark reads I think this would interest you, but just know it isn’t as dark as some out there. And if you are a reader that tends to shy away from a dark read, I think this one would still be ok for you, because, although there are dark aspects to the story nothing goes into any detail. I don’t think it would take you out of your comfort zone too much.
I would recommend this book. It is a story about healing and learning to move on. This doesn’t start out as a typical love story, but as it goes along and things are revealed, you can feel the love grow between Lila and Tyson. I look forward to what DC Renee has to come next.
I have a few issues with this story. 1- That man was immature and stupid enough to ruin someone's life because of a stupid reason. He was driving to see his brother's girlfriend, Lila, when he crashed the car and his brother died so his logic is that it's Lila's fault that he's dead???
2- he didn't even check if the Lila he had was the right one.
3- his character throughout the story was inconsistent. He transitioned from being one thing to something else too abruptly. I didn't feel like it was the same person I was reading about.
4- the way he tried to ruin her life was ineffective. He couldn't keep her from finding love by forcing her to marry him. If his threats were all empty how could he stop her from loving someone else?
There are some other things that contributed to my negative review like the freaking chip he implanted on her?? The secondary characters were lacking depth. The plot twist with her being the one to hit his car and cause the accident?? Too unbelievable that they wouldn't know each other after that.
Overall, the story was absurdly unbelievable .

A Promise Kept is dark...really dark. Tyson blames Lila for things that she may or may not be guilty of but he is so caught up in his hatred that he can only focus on making her pay.
Lila has not always acted the way she should have and has not always treated others with respect. But she has tried not to get involved in the actual acts of hurting others. Now whether standing by and letting things happen is as great as doing the actual act...well I will let you be the judge of that.
Both Lila and Tyson are cracked and flawed (Tyson drove me to sheer madness!) and maybe they are beyond redemption? One is the glue and one is the broken vase needing to be made whole again.
I will leave you to read this twisting, winding labyrinth of a tale to decide who is who and whether they have paid the price for their sins.
DC always knows how to draw a reader in and doesn't disappoint with her newest release. Her characters are always so well written and having both POVs lets you really into their minds to feel all the emotions.
Tyson is a broken man from so much tradegy and anger that you hurt for him. Lila hasn't always felt like she's been the best person and strives to be better and wants to see the good in life and I loved how she tries to stay true to herself. But for both, past issues that bring them together aren't what they seem and the future is rocky. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for an emotional read. It takes me back to when I first read DC and just proves even more why I love her work.
Renee will take you on a journey full of emotions ranging from sinister to heart breaking as she tells the emotionally riveting dark romance between a monster and his prey with A Promise Kept.
In her new release Renee tells you the story of a man who is out for nothing but revenge from the girl who destroyed his life. Desperate for a resolution and filled with anger, Tyson, an ex military man kidnaps and forces Lila, the girl who ruined everything to be his bride. Instead of instant gratification, Tyson is hell bent on making Lila suffer long term to the devastation she has caused. Renee gives you at first what seems like a gritty, hard edged story but quickly you learn there is way more to Tyson and Lila than meets the eye.
Renee truly wowed me with her intricate and complex characters. A Promise Kept features two of the most riveting characters I’ve had the pleasure of reading this year. Tyson and Lila’s complexities and hardships will leave you thinking about them long after the resolution within this book. Renee did a fantastic job of writing a story that you have a hard time accepting, yet can’t imagine it written any other way. These characters and their discovery of truth will enamour you from beginning to end.
While I’m not always a fan of a dark, sinister romance, I will say Renee played her cards perfectly creating a novel with as much darkness and it has hope. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this story. I think you will too!
Lila Meddings is confused and so am I – great way to get me hooked. Tyson Welsh is a very confusing man – another great way to get me hooked. Once I got started I wasn’t able to stop. I was going to get this finished in one day no matter what it took. With all the ups and downs, twists and turns, I just had to be careful not to get carsick.
This story seems to be a modern day mash-up of two older stories. I’m not going to give that away because it will be easy for you to discover on your own. I loved how the author did the spin on them while adding in something that will tug at your heart. The author could have made this a very dark story but she let Lila’s light and love shine through. It took a while to get there but given the way this book started the author gives her readers the perfect ending.
This is a story to take a chance on. It doesn’t start off happy. You go through the story wondering what the true story is. Is this story going to show the darker side of humanity? That could have happened but the author created a secondary character that was a friend to Tyson and ended up being a friend to Lila as well. No scene seemed to drag on or slow down the pace the author set. That was one reason that it was so easy to read the book in one day. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Man the emotions this book pulled out of me was such a wide range I felt like I had whiplash. He was a monster in looks and actions but truly beneath it all he was a man in pain hiding behind his scars. Death and loss had changed him and he allowed his emotions to take him to a dark place, making ugly decisions. But this author shows us all things done in anger, or in his case when dealing with grief, acting out in revenge doesn’t always turn out bad. She hadn’t known the kindness he showed or the man he really was but he didn’t scare her. The more she learned about him the more things changed. When things change, when what was fake becomes real, when the vows are tested, what’s real remains. This author did a masterful job of bringing these two together and working out their stuff. The emotional level of this book is high and gets higher with the twist, I loved every bit of it.
I am a monster. I am out for revenge. A marriage based on ????
When Tyson reaches a depth of despair he takes action. He thinks he is a monster and does not deserve happiness. He vows to rob Lila of her happiness also. Making her live a life of despair along with him.
This is a rollercoaster of a ride. There is ups and downs and twists and turns you don't see coming. I thought I had some questions answered to find out I was completely wrong. Every emotion will come out at some time during this story.
Mostly this book puts you through the wringer because you have two people who because of a tragedy are broken. Can they save each other or do what they do best and push each other away.
"Lord, help me. I was a married woman. An unhappily married woman."
This book intrigued me from the very beginning. It reminded me a lot of the authors earlier books. A mixture of Three Loving Words, A Brutal Betrayal, and a bit of Scars of My past. DC is known for her books having a twist in them and I found myself constantly guessing what kind of twist this book was going to have. I kept being wrong and I loving that I couldn't figure it out so easily. I needed to keep reading. I needed ANSWERS!
I'm afraid if I try and sum up the book too much I'll give all the good stuff away. This is one you don't want spoiled. When everything is revealed and you get that light bulb moment it's totally worth the suspense.
"I broke my promise the minute I saw her. It was a promise to let her know, to let her know just what happened."
After reading the preface of this book, I was so freaking confused. I immediately thought wth this is dumb. Nope. Not in the slightest. I decided to read it just to know what this huge promise was. I was surprised. This was really good. I'm a sucker for Beauty and The Beast retellings. Even though, he kidnapped Lila, he was not even close to being beastly. He was a kindhearted and loyal who was dealt a bad hand in life. A couple of twists in this as well. First time reading this author but definitely not the last. Also, does Jayden have is own book?
5+ stars. Where do I even begin? I absolutely loved Lila and how she handled herself with Ty as she would call him. I had a love/hate relationship with him. There were times where I hated him and times when I loved him. And knowing DC, I was waiting for the twist and I thought I saw it coming but boy did it blindside me. I really loved this book. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down and finished it all in one day. Definitely a must read!!
Another entertaining story by DC. She's one of my favorite authors that no matter what genre she writes, I'll be reading it. She has a way with sucking you in within each page that you can't wait to see what the ending will become. Every turn is a mystery. A Promise Kept was intriguing, and a mystery in itself.
Wow! This book was beyond great! A real page turner! I did get a little ill bc I wanted to know why things happened sooner they they played out but this book had me sucked in from the beginning & I could not put it down! This was my first book I’ve read by this Author but it will not be my last!
A Promise Kept by DC Renee is one of those books that takes you by surprise. Renee has you intrigued from the very beginning and holds you captive throughout the book. You keep wondering which turn is she going to take next.
