About the author

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.

Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.

Prvý príbeh- Štúdia v krvavočervenom, bol skvelý a ešte lepší, keď som ho čítala druhýkrát.

Druhý príbeh- Podpis štyroch, ma na konci už dosť nudil, a nedokázal udržať moju pozornosť.

Watson and Holmes are brought together by a mutual acquaintance and become roommates. Watson soon realizes Holmes is quite an odd fellow who doesn’t take much interest in astronomy, philosophy or literature but is adept at chemistry and has a very keen eye which enables him to surmise a person’s past with just a glance.
As Watson is unemployed and friendless he joins Holmes in assisting Scotland Yard in solving a murder.

The story, written in two parts, first solves the murder in Part 1 and reveals the reasons for it in Part 2.

Very well written with spots of humor and descriptive prose.

Antes de tudo, me sinto feliz por finalmente ter entrado no universo literário de um personagem tão icônico, e o qual já consumi em outras mídias (principalmente jogos). É válido citar também a estruturação desse primeiro volume organizado pela HarperCollins, e que nos apresenta os dois primeiros romances, "Um estudo em vermelho" (1887) e "O sinal dos quatro" (1890), bem como a primeira coletânea de contos do personagem, "As aventuras de Sherlock Holmes" (1892).
A primeira coisa a me chamar atenção já nas primeiras páginas do primeiro romance, foi a similaridade de Sherlock com Dupin, o primeiro detetive, criado por Edgar Allan Poe. Ainda que a inspiração de Conan Doyle na obra de Poe seja conhecida, foi interessante ver como logo no início de "Um estudo em vermelho" temos até mesmo uma cena muito parecida à uma vista em "Os assassinatos da rua Morgue", publicado originalmente em 1841. A obra de Arthur Conan Doyle, no entanto, é de uma leitura muito mais fácil e envolvente, ainda que a estrutura de seus romances e contos seja sempre bastante parecida, o que pode se tornar um pouco cansativo após algumas centenas de páginas. De todo modo, é praticamente impossível não agir como o dr. John Watson, e se render às extremas e quase bizarras capacidade de observação e dedução de Sherlock Holmes (mesmo que em alguns raros momentos pareça que o detetive está tirando informações do nada).
Analisando individualmente as três obras reunidas nesse primeiro volume, o primeiro romance me agradou mais que o segundo, e a coletânea de contos foi o ponto alto. Claramente, como toda coletânea, temos textos que se destacam mais que outros, mas no geral, não consigo classificar de maneira negativa nenhum dos contos. E levando em consideração apenas os dois primeiros romances, me parece também que o personagem funcionou de maneira melhor nos textos mais curtos (em média 15 a 25 páginas) presentes em "As aventuras de Sherlock Holmes".
Ao final, posso relatar como a experiência foi muito gratificante.

Très belle édition mêlant les écrits originaux de Sir Conan Doyle avec leurs équivalents manga. Les dessins sont très soignés et les histoires sont bien respectée.

Malgré son prix assez élevé, c'est une excellente édition pour toutes personnes n'ayant pas déjà les aventures de Sherlock Holmes dans leur bibliothèque, ainsi que pour initier les plus jeunes au célèbre détective grâce à la partie manga.

I love Sherlock Holmes books but this one is my favorite, I love how it describes How Watson and Holmes meet. It is a great book for anybody who wants begin reading Sherlock Holmes books or simply needs a refreshers

Romani o Šerloku Holmsu su neosporno uzbudljivi i interesantni svakom čitaocu. Ovu zbirku čine 4 romana: Crvena nit, Znak četvorice, Baskervilski pas i Dolina straha.

Jedino što se može zameriti ovom izdanju jeste što knjiga ima 804g, pa nije baš praktična.

Štúdia v krvavočervenom :
Doktor Watson sa vojnový lekár sa po zráneniach vrácia späť do Londýna. Hľadá si byt, a tak spozná Sherlocka Holmesa. Bývajú na Baker Street 221B. Začínaju spolu bývať a Watson si na ňom všíma zaujímavé návyky. Má poznatky takmer zo všetkého a Watson ho obdivuje a spolu aj jeho dedukciu. Začínajú riešiť 1. prípad. V dome nájdu mrtvého človeka. Nájdu tam niekoľko stôp, no Holmes ich nájde. A po ani nie dlhom pátraní sa Holmesovi podarí nájsť pachateľa a zatknúť ho. Dr. Watson sa iba nestáčí diviť ako to spravil. Vrah bol istý drožkár, ktorý sa chcel pomstiť 2 pánom (áno, ešte bola 1 vražda.) Pretože v minulosti miloval jednu ženu, ale keďže vyznávali nejaké nábožesntvo a on bol nebol pobožný. Tak mu ju ukradli a ona z toho zomrela. A niekoľko rokov týchto 2 pánov hľadal. Príčina smrti prvého bola otrávenie jedovatou tabletkou a druhý zomrel prepodnutím srdca.

Podpis štyroch:
2.Prípad. Za Sherlockom Holmesom prišla pani Mary Morstanova. Dostáva nejaké vzkazy aj perly, stále kúsok po kúsku. Watsonovi sa hneď zapáči. V jednom odkaze sa píše, aby sa zastavili u jedného pána Sholta, ktorý im všetko objasní. Tie perly boli z pokladu, ktorý patril jej otcovi, ktorý zomrel.
Idu za Sholtovym bratom a nájdu ho mrtvého. Zabil ho pán s drevonou nohou a jedným malým diabolským pomocníkom. Chcú újsť, ibaže ich chytia na rieke a zatknu. Toho malého pomocníka zastrelia, pretože ich chcel zabiť. Nájdu ich aj s pokladom, avšak je prázdny. Pán s drevenou nohou ich roztrrúsil po rieke a už ich nikto nenajde. Hlavne je, že Sherloc Holmes svojimi dedukčnými metodámi vypatral vrahov a zatkol ich.

Veľmi stručný obsah, pretože ich píšem veľmi podrobne a už sa mi nechce.
Kniha sa mi veľmi páčila, Sherlock Holmes je veľmí zaujímavá postava a v diele sa vyskytuje aj kopa
vtipných vecí, hoci niektoré veci nie sú na 100% objasnené, ale zrejme to tak má byť. Určite chcem prečítať všetky časti.

Esse livro foi uma saga. Já tentei ler ele há muitos anos, mas achei a escrita exatamente parada e acabei abandonando. Desta vez, foi mais fácil de ler, mas ainda assim tive altos e baixos.

O livro vai crescendo com o tempo, as histórias vão ficando mais interessantes, vão atiçando mais a curiosidade, algumas histórias são até engraçadas de tão impossíveis.

Algo que me deixou muito aliviada é que mesmo tendo uma espécie de fórmula na estrutura, ela muda de ordem, e o resultado (quase) sempre surpreende (eu consegui deduzir o final de um dos contos bem cedo 🕵🏽‍♀️).

Mas um ponto que me incomodou foi que os grandes monólogos de 3, 4 páginas resistiu em todas as histórias. Não gosto disso, foi um dos motivos de eu ter abandonado antes, a explicação é muito boa, mas poderia ter sido feito de outra maneira.

This book brought a very interesting experience. As it is in every mystery book, it was extremely difficult to keep the book down. The choice of diction and it's fast-paced nature makes it even more exciting and adds a hint of satire in the book. At first it might seem a bit tedious as it is challenging to keep up with Sherlock, but when at the end Holmes explains his deductions to Watson (the narrator), you feel in awe of the well-connected plot. The collection of stories include the 1st book written by Arthur Conan Doyle, The Study in Scarlet, The Red-Headed League, The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle, The Adventure of the Speckled Band, The Musgrave Ritual and finally The Adventure of the Dancing Men. Gostei muito mais dos contos, do que dos romances, e, dentre os contos, aproveitei mais a leitura dos que possuem mais elementos investigativos do que dos que se tratam de dramas e críticas sociais. Acho que o autor se perdeu demais nas narrativas que insistiu em colocar para contextualizar a história que dá origem aos casos, tornando-os monólogos extensos demais para minha minúscula paciência.

Todos vão ter suas preferências em relação ao gênero, mas esses livros despertam uns sentimentos primais em mim, por ver lógica quase que pura suplantando todo o mal de uma Inglaterra vitoriana, com todo o espírito ideal cavalheiresco e inglês associado. É uma leitura leve, demasiada simples e de fórmula por muitas vezes repetitiva, mas ainda acho suficientemente divertido e bem escrito pra ser uma representação sólida e mesmo bela do gênero.

A very enjoyable entry into the world of Sherlock Holmes. I preferred the shorter stories to the main subject, but all stories were thoroughly enjoyable
