Skylin isn’t sure if she can survive the chaos that is the Everettson family. But turns out, the Everettsons aren’t your typical family, and Skylin soon realizes she's not the only person in the world that has strange abilities. And in order to survive the dangerous magical world she’s thrown into, she’ll have to put her trust in the not only the Everettsons, but Foster as well.

So JS is a newer author to me. I discovered her though her RH stuff and have been slowly making my way through her back catalogue. Most are hits but there are a few misses - lets be honest and all admit that it’s impossible to LOVE every single thing an author writes.

For me though, this book, and more than likely the series, is a hit. I liked the heroine and the Hero grew on me. The H does have some more growing to do though as he was an asshole and his 180 is a little to unbelievable for me to completely buy. His actions in further books will completely win me over more than likely though.

The story follows Sky and her discovery and (somewhat) acceptance of powers. Technically she’s known she’s had powers for quite a while but kept it on the DL. Upon the disappearance of her parents she’s forced to live with the Everttsons - people she’s never met and immediately come off as “weird. I felt Skys reactions to the “weirdness” and the discovery that they too have powers was realistic - BUT only because she too has powers.

Our Hero - Foster - def comes off as an ass and so do most of his brothers - there are 5 more of them! However, as the story goes on and the powers are discovered it’s clear to see why they initially treated Sky the way they did. Unfortunately the change didn’t completely win me over. Plus the way some of the brothers make themselves appear is not flattering. Fosters possessiveness of Sky after her powers are revealed went a long way to help change my POV of him.

So overall I’d def recommend this book/series. I find JS’s writing easy to follow and realistic. The only thing that kept this from a 5 Star was the slightly unbelievably change in Foster.

Triggers - drinking and light drug use, death/disappearance of parents

Meh

This relies too heavily on cliches and formulas of the genres it plays off of, there are too many inconsistencies and continuity errors, the heroine kind of sucks. It reads a lot like Paper Princess or The Kennedy Boys with a paranormal twist. This came up as A RH but so far that isn't panning out.

Spoilers.

Ok so the whole thing takes place in two or three days. Day 1: Tell friends you are moving and have one last night of fun, Day 2: Guardian shows up with two of his insanely hot sons one of whom is a total ass, move you out, Guardian's wife tells you to call her mom, new "brothers" pull a prank on you, meet more insanely hot brothers while discovering unnerving things at night in a big dark house, Day 3: meet even more hot brothers follow them into the woods where you find the whole fam doing strange things, run away, have an unreasonably long amount of time to get out of the woods, up into the house, pack, and then run out of the massive estate before they manage to catch up to you considering you were like fifty feet away from them at most and running through an empty clearing, agree to go back against all logic even though you saw super weird shit going on oh and the eyeballs and screaming from the day before, get called to a council, portal to another world, portal back, try some magic, pass the f out. Day 4: over hear some more freakiness when you wake up, run away, stupidly tell them where you will be even though you are running away, agree to come back when they find you, agree to bind yourself to them permanently even though you have a lot of questions.

Ok it was four days. It took place in four days but the characters kept saying things like we were going to tell you or we were just waiting for the right time, you haven't been nice to me as long as you've known me, he's always been nice to me, and all sorts of things that make it seem like this has been weeks not four days, when she shows up at the party Gage acts like he hasn't seen her in weeks. Can we just briefly detour for a moment to complain about making two characters with nearly identical names. Seriously you had to go with Gabe and Gage. No other name would work in place of one of those two. Had to be Gabe an Gage.

Continuity: so there is the weeks/versus days things which was majorly important but then also the whole oh I'll be living three hours away when I move but some how it takes my friend less than five minutes to appear to pick me up when I run away the second time. There are many other minor instances of it too but it's almost as if this was written, grammar and spell checked, and never read through to see if there were consistency errors or if the same freaking phrase was used just a paragraph above making it repetitive. (This happened so many times).

It just wasn't very good. I've read other stuff by this author and this just feels so half assed and I was rushing through it just to get it done because I wanted to done. If this is the quality she is going to start putting out I would rather she just didn't.

I’m a huge fan of Jessica Sorenson. I used to read all her books when I was younger so I had a good idea of what to expect going in. I like the beginning of this book. It had all the elements of a great paranormal YA. I was not expecting the family to have the powers they had, so that was cool. And the world building was a bit inconsisitent to be honest. It was kinda all over the place.

Skylin was bit too impetuous for me. Granted, she is a teenager so it was consistent with her character’s age. However, lately I have found that the newer books have more mature YA characters, I guess I was expecting that. Not that it ruined her character for me. She seemed to adjust to all the rapid changes in her life pretty well once everything was out in the open. And the brothers didn’t make it easy for her being so secretive.

Also, I found this quasi-romance to be a bit light weight reverse harem-ish. They all seemed to have these ‘moments’ with her that I wasn’t sure were meant to be romantic but kinda came across that way. IDK what to make of it. The story ended at a really good part and I didn’t feel that we had a traditional climax and resolution. But it was short enough that I wasn’t that upset about it. At least I liked it enough to read the next one.

3 STARS

(EDIT: As of right now I believe this will be a RH. Because of that I won’t be continuing this series until I hear otherwise.)

Great premise with an interesting world the author has created. Though YA I didn’t feel like the characters were juvenile or annoying. I was scared for a minute this was going to be a RH but I’m soooo happy that it isn’t! (Just not my cup of tea.)

Only complaints I had is this is too damn short. Seriously it literally just ended in the middle of the book, I mean it technically was the ending but it felt like the beginning-middle of the story. We were just getting to know the characters, getting a hint of a maybe romance, and learning just a little bit about the magical world the author created. Then BOOM it was over.

It felt like Sorensen wrote a novel, then decided to cut it in half and sell it as two books. (This is a sales tactic I do NOT care for, it makes me feel like the author/publisher is just trying to get more money.) So the book literally just ends. There is no conflict, climax, resolution, there’s nothing... it felt like a half written novel the author decided to publish.

This aggravated me.

So though I like this story and will be reading book two asap, I can’t give this first book more than 3 STARS. It frankly doesn’t deserve any more for the simple reason its an incomplete book and NOTHING HAPPENS.

Good story

She always ends the book just as it is getting good. There is a huge cliffhanger with not type of closure. At least this time it looks like all the books are done for this series.

There were parts of this book that were 4+ stars. Unfortunately as the book progressed it got more and more fantastical, and not in a good way. There are so many divergent storylines I'm not sure if it's possible at this point to fill in all the holes.

So, I was very confused because the book was reading like and R.H., but then it was revealed she could only ever be with one of the guys, so I had to accept that the story was not r.h. But wait, the bond changes and now she can probably / most likely be with all the men... MAKE UP YOUR MIND ALREADY!

Will I continue? Maybe? I mean, I enjoyed aspects of this book quite a bit. The world building was extremely unique and fun. The powers and characters are intriguing, even though we really only got to know two of the men in this first book.

Finally, if you get triggered by editing and grammatical errors, you may want to skip this one. :)

So to set things straight; no, this is not a RH. I thought it was because the description sounded so like one and it popped up in that genre but it’s not - my bad. Okay, now that’s all clear, my review...

Enchanted Chaos was not what I was expecting (RH aside). Described as a upper YA paranormal/fantasy novel, I found it was a little bit more Science Fiction Fantasy than just Fantasy - I know, I know, there’s a fine line, but when you start introducing new worlds and laboratories it begins to feel a lot like Sci Fi. The description of the InBetween reminded me of a video game which may have reinforced the Sci Fi feel. The magic was interesting but I feel the inclusion of all the different creatures were unnecessary and just confused things a bit.

I liked how the MC, Skylin, has a self sufficient rebel personality, it was refreshing to have such a different heroine - the drinking and drugs helped paint a clearer picture and highlight the fact that Skylin is no Mary Sue. Now, the guys on the other hand were all 90% jerks. I understand they had secrets to hide and were a bit annoyed at having to play host to an outsider, but that does not excuse their attitude and treatment of Skylin.

Sorensen can certainly write, and there were very little editing errors. The whole novel takes place over 48 hours and feels like it’s laying the groundwork for more action and plot in the next book. I initially was going to give Enchanted Chaos 4 stars for I liked the heroine and her friends, but as I was writing this review I realised that it didn’t hook me enough to want to read the next book. However, if you like a bit of a grungier upper YA paranormal/fantasy (with a Sci Fi element), guys that start off as jerks and a little bit of chaos, then this might just be for you.

Random Ending…

Overall good. The ending was super spur of the moment. Not quite a cliffhanger but more like she forgot to finish her thoughts and submitted it. Story wise it’s a cool concept but I hate seeing her falling for an epic a-hole who treated her horribly. Now he is only being nice because he’s desperate. It’s pathetic. I wish she was stronger willed. She gives info their demands too easily

I love this whole magic world! Well, what I've seen so far! I like the idea of elemental powers, other worlds, magic portals y and other magical stuff (the essentials were really cute btw)! The one thing I hated was how mean the younger twins were to her at first, there's no excuse to kick a puppy when it's down and she was down enough, I mean, she just found her self possibly orphaned and forced to abandon everything she know to go live with complete strangers while dealing with supernatural powers she knew nothing about! I'm glad the others were so nice to her, even if they were all supper flirty, and while I get why Foster needed to keep everyone at a distance, I still don't forgive him for been so cruel to her!

It was interesting and the world, the powers, etc. was definitely not the same old. There’s enough there to make one interested in finding out what happens next (although some of the ‘mystery’ gets too drawn out and the ‘reveal’ idiotic.) However, there is SO MUCH to dislike about the book.

First of all, the swearing. It’s totally unnecessary and doesn’t add anything to the book. It just cheapens it. It also makes it completely inappropriate for younger readers. (Let’s be real...kids swear. But as a parent, I wouldn’t be able to condone my child reading this.) It also makes it read like a much younger, less experienced author wrote it.

Secondly, there were far too many ridiculous slights that happened to Sky. Foster’s rejection, the story about Grey, the way Gabe didn’t try to make her feel more comfortable when they got to their house (he just got out of the car and left her), the way she was given the attic as a room, etc., etc. (And while I’m on the topic, I’m eye rolling myself at how many times someone told her some place or some person was safe and she wouldn’t get hurt and they would protect her...and the complete opposite happened. MULTIPLE times!!) Maybe there are readers who like all the negativity and mistreatment. But I don’t.

Thirdly, there are a LOT of errors - grammatical and just wrong words used (example: ‘he didn’t not what to do’ instead of ‘didn’t know what to do.’ It’s like it was done via dictation instead of typing/writing.).

Fourth, both books take place over the course of 4-5 days. Not even a WEEK?!! It makes everything feel way too crammed and forced. It’s not that hard for an author to say ‘she went to sleep and the next day this happened.’ and draw it all out to a much longer timeframe. Because then when someone says ‘You can trust me,’ she really feels like she can!!

Lastly, it’s unclear, but highly suggestive, that this is going into Reverse Harem territory. 1) I’d like that to be CLEARLY labeled in the synopsis (so I can avoid it at all costs), 2) I suspect it ISN’T labeled that way because the author herself isn’t sure where she’s going with it (even up to the end of book 2). 3) I have NO idea what the fascination is with RH. Why would you want the emotional confusion, jealousy, overwhelmingness of multiple partners? What happened to one person with (& made for) another? I’m so sick of what’s being put out there these days AND I’m honestly worried for the young readers who are soaking these up.

In addition, note that books 1 & 2 PROBABLY should have been combined as Book 1....and that even if that were to happen, it leaves a lot missing.

In short, I wouldn’t recommend this series. There is too much working against it DESPITE it having great potential.

review for all three chapters sold at the moment

I just paid 5$ for 1 chapter of a normal sized book.
I feel cheated and it is not only 1 single short chapter, it is also written in a rush and not edited.
The story could be nice, but I feel like we've reached less than 30% of it and it already is around 15$ in total.
This author is now in my blacklist. Because there's an etical part in the business of writing and selling books, and she is exploiting the addictive level of serialized stories in the teenagers market. It feels pretty evil to me.

I really liked this book; I love the development of the characters and the flow of the plot. I'm sitting here trying to figure out how the way they make her feel is supposed to play out, so this books definitely keeps me in and guessing what's going to happen next. I've already read the second book and waiting on the third. And I'.m too excited to find out how that's gonna play out.

Life as a teenager is hard. When you add the chaos of life to it, things can unravel in the strangest ways. For Skylin – the reality of her parents disappearance is smacking her hard in the face. Without anyone acting as Skylin’s guardian, she must rely on the ‘backup plan’ set in place by her parents. The result…..Skylin will reside with her father’s friend and his family. The only problem with this plan? Skylin has never heard of this family.

The Everettson’s aren’t your typical family. Chaos rules supreme in this family dynamic. What would you expect from a family with SIX sons? Each possesses their own personality making life interesting for Skylin the moment she is introduced to each family member. Some are excited to have a ‘sister’ added to the brood. Others are not happy to discover an outsider is moving in amidst the already chaotic family dynamic.

Secrets are swirling surrounding the Everettson family. What those secrets are remains to be seen, but Skylin is determined to get to the bottom of the weird things that are happening in her new home. What adds even more fuel to the fire….Skylin is holding on to her own secret. One that threatens to expose her to an entirely different realm of possibilities. With magic swirling around, Skylin discovers that she isn’t the only one with a secret. A comfort and dangerous revelation.

When I picked up Enchanted Chaos, I immediately knew this would be a book that I would be absorbed in. Skylin is not your typical teen, and the chaos that is surrounding her life is full of interesting occurrences. The entire Everettson family captured me with their nuances and special abilities. Listen – anything that has Jessica Sorensen’s name attached will be worth reading. I can always depend on the author’s writing to transport me into another world that is full of inspiring and interesting characters.

Enchanted Chaos is the first in an enchanting new YA series that drew me in with each chapter. In fact – I didn’t want the story to end. I defiantly need to know what is happening with the Everettson siblings and Skylin. So – I will be waiting on the second installment to uncover the mysteries that lie in wait.

Have you ever automatically purchased several books by an author's based on the book synopsis without ever reading a single one of their books? Well, I have a few of these authors and Jessica Sorensen is one of them. I will admit to anyone that I have a serious book buying problem and that includes all kinds of books but especially ebooks. Jessica's book descriptions have me hooked, I mean I believed that I would love them if I read them and therefore purchased the book. As of right now, I have a total of thirty (thirty!) ebooks by Jessica and today is the first time I have ever read any of them.

Well, I have finally read a Jessica Sorensen book and I was not disappointed. Enchanted Chaos is an angsty ya paranormal romance that is filled with elemental powers, mystery, and has multiple worlds. It's a quick read the book is around one-hundred-fifty pages and the action is super fast-paced, I didn't even realize that all the events took place within two days. While the story is short it's very interesting and obviously just getting started. I liked the characters and the MFC, Sky, reminded me so much of myself, she is a little bit of a loner and a little shy. Sky is a total mix of a nice bad girl who is shy and independent, she is such a bundle of contradictions that I love it, I think it makes her relatable because she is more than one thing.

Pros:
A quick and fun read with relatable dialogue
Elemental powers with multiple worlds
Characters that I liked and connected to

Cons:
Wished the story was a little longer with more world-building

Overall I am so glad that I picked up Enchanted Chaos, I really enjoyed the story and I have so many questions that I want the answers to. I can't wait to find out what happens between Sky and a certain angsty guy, I am so ready for more, I have the next two books in the series and I am looking forward to seeing more of the magical world Jessica has created.

Wow, just wow!

First of all I'll start by saying that I love JS, she's one of my favourite authors and I truly believe she has a talent for storytelling! This book, and I'm not just saying this, is one of my favourites by her so far. It's one that I can really see myself reading over and over again when I hit a reading slump and need to get out of it. My only complaint is it needs to be longer but lucky me I'll only have to wait a few days before the second book releases.

Now onto why I loved the story so much...

Skylin, for me was very relatable: shy around new people yet sassy, funny and feisty when out of her shell. I feel as though it's easy to be labelled as shy when first meeting someone but this book really shows how one's feeling can change towards you after a few encounters which was an important message because sometimes it's so easy to get caught up in first encounters. Furthermore, the way she stood up for herself was a great example to many girls, showing that she doesn't take sh*t from anyone else. This was perfectly balanced with how she knows and understands when to accept help.

*fanning self* The Everettson brothers are *swoon*, even through the pages of a book. They were interesting and amusing to read about because the six of them are all so different from the joker, to the ass, to the kind one yet one thing that really stood out was their love for one another which for me is something I always admire in characters.

I would highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys YA, paranormal mystery because it truly is a book that I would love for others to experience.

Like angsty vampires with elemental powers.

And every one of them is hot! Sky grew up with parents that let her do whatever the hell she wanted. They taught her to use the stove as soon as they could. That way they could be gone longer. Yet, she never sees it that way. In her mind her parents love het, are cool, and wanted her to know how to feed herself. She's 17 drinking & doing drugs & doing what she wants. Her parents disappear & the cops think they just abandoned her. She doesn't believe it. After a few weeks she is told by an attorney she has to go live with a family she doesn't know. A best friend of her father. Yet, she's never heard of him. When he shows up with 2 of his sons she is shocked when she realizes the family has 6 kids. All gorgeous sons but several act like jerks. She starts to worry when a creepy guy tells her to call him if she wants to learn the truth about the family. The card is blank though. It took the father & 2 sons an hour and a half to pack up the whole house. That's impossible, right? She learns they do a baseball game every Sunday. She would be home alone. Then crazy stuff starts to happen high pitched screaming. Not to mention what is in the fridge. She has to go with them to meet the council. She goes through a portal to the in-between. She starts to build a bit of a connection to some of the nicer sons. The parents are really nice. Sky finally learns she isn't human. Most of her life things happen when she gets emotional. She tries her best to control it but she never admits she needs help. Finally she has met a family that can.

Good series starter. Very short read. I feel like I need some back story on “elemental protectors” and what’s really going on in this new supernatural world there were a lot of vague comments that really haven’t been explained. Also, seems as tho Sky’s parents being missing has really called to the wayside which is weird especially knowing what she is and how she is hunted, and both her parents end up missing...smells fishy.

Also despite a lot of things happening this book takes place over only a couple days so really fast paced there, almost seems like with all the passing out and sleeping this character does that the passage of time is a little off.

I was getting an RH feel for a hot minute and had to double check this wasn’t one. That theory was disproved later when Foster revealed they can only be with each other....honestly, that’s a little disappointing. A little healthy competition never hurt anything. So now I feel it’s obvious that they are going to wind up together and that’s kind of spoiling it for me. We shall see. I hope I am wrong. Maybe we will meet some more specials.

I’m a huge Jessica Sorensen fan. I absolutely love the way she can just suck you into a series. This one is no different.
Here you have 17yr old Sky who is absolutely terrified of showing her emotions. I mean what teenager isn’t. except Sky’s emotions are a direct link to her power. Whenever she is scared/anxious or showing any kind of extreme feelings she can cause a flood, tornado, blizzard, anything weather related. The only way for Sky to control her power to is to keep her emotions in check. Sadly no one knows about her ability. She’s had to carry this burden her entire life.
Now that her parents are missing and presumed dead, Sky has to move in with her guardians. Friends of her parents that she has never before met or even heard of. Right now Sky’s emotions are all over the place. And to make matters worse, Sky is moving in with a family of 6 boys. But this is no ordinary family. Strange things and comments are happening all around her. Sky’s life is about to change even more.
Omg, I LOVED this book. I’m really excited about this series. I read book one and two back to back over the weekend and I’m dying for #3. It’s so bloody good!

This would be a great book for a 14 year old, but not so much for an adult. Unfortunately it's not the type of YA that is also suitable for adults. It is a cute paranormal YA, that is predictable and cliche. Nothing really new here. The world-building is kinda boring and the author is trying to fit in too much. Lots of exposition sections. The only thing that drew me to this book initially was the fact that the protagonist had to move in with 6 other guys (interesting dynamics) and she controlled the elements according to her emotions. Unfortunately it didn't go much further than that.

In the end there was this serious moment where Sky decided to merge with the boys, but we don't hear anything about it again. It's like she forgets about it. So weird. It's also a very short book. Saying that, it wasn't a terrible book. I could appreciate it for it was. Will probably check out the other books, just to finish the trilogy.

This book was pretty short, only being like 200 pages, but I read it within a couple hours. I will say that I really did like this book!!! I was actually quite ready to go into the second book, so I pull it up on KU and it says it won’t be included until sometime in May… I am honestly really sad about that…

I feel that not a lot happened in this book, but I did like what did happened. The pacing was pretty good, and it was just an overall interesting plot!

*UPDATE*

Ok, so I went back onto the book, and when I clicked on it, it brought me back to where I was and it said I still had a couple hundred pages left! So I have no idea what kind of glitch that was, but I am leaving my review up, and we will just have to see if it changes from when I actually finish the book…

*SECOND UPDATE*

So I actually just finished the book, for real this time! I think I am going to leave the review the same, because this book had me hooked. I was left on a sort of cliffhanger and I just want to make sure East is ok…

There is so much mystery surrounding this group, and my heart aches for ALL of them, especially East… there is also a lot of drama which is kind of annoying, but I know that everyone will end up ok, and everything will work out!

I haven’t read a book in ages, but for some reason I couldn’t sleep so picked this guy up....I don’t remember if the summary says it, but just so you know, it’s part 1 of 3. It doesn’t have a cliffhanger ending, but it’s definitely not complete either. Also completely told from the heroine’s point of view. Other then that, there’s only a few more things I can think of to mention: it’s super cute... I am quite a ways away from being a YA, but I enjoyed this tremendously. There are a lot of characters, though and I’ll admit, once or twice I got them mixed up, but otherwise I got sucked into the story right away, and am absolutely going to read the next one.

Somewhere in the vicinity of 3.5 stars to 4 stars.
(Please excuse any typos/ rambling. Wrote this right after finishing the book, so still haven’t slept! )

2.5?
Weird. There's a bit too much in it for me to bitch about it being a ridiculous serial rather than a series of books... but not enough happens and it just stops out of no where like a stupid serial that's just looking for money for chapters.

Can't say I am attached to any of the characters - of the RH there appears to be two nice guys, two sleazes and two asshats. The world might have potential if it was built better, but right now it's too vague. The plot is pretty unsure of itself IMO too. It feels like its determined to be a RH, no matter the consequences... and it's so focused on that end, the rest is overlooked. (not that RH is in this book, just a new girl moved in with a bunch of teenage boys and there's some reshuffling of the pecking order as they all tease each other and figure out where they fit.)
