Regan Black, a USA Today bestselling author, writes award-winning, action-packed romantic novels featuring kick-butt heroines and the sexy heroes who fall in love with them. She and her husband currently enjoy the empty-nest life in the South Carolina Lowcountry where the rich blend of legend, romance, and history fuels her imagination.
Three months ago, Scott Blackwell, formerly of the US Army, was framed for murder and drug dealing. He was sprung out of jail and promised his freedom and that the two teammates who were compromised along with him would be remain safe. The deal: Scott has to kill Jaime Castle. Scott managed to escape from his blackmailers, he is on his way to Montana where he plans to hide, when he sees a woman whose vehicle has a flat tire. Ever the gentleman, Scott offers his help, but the woman is his target!
Unknown Identities is a mindblowing concept based on supersoldiers gone terribly wrong. There was so much story packed in MOVING TARGET, that it could have easily been made into a full-length novel. In a way, it’s too bad that Ms. Black was limited by the number of pages, but I knew it was a novella going in, so I’m not complaining. It’s just that it was so good, I wanted more!
I loved Jaime and Scott; I got a good grasp of who they were, and Jaime has very useful talents, besides being level-headed and cool under pressure. Scott is considerate regarding Jaime’s involuntarily involvement in the situation, and he doesn’t want to impose more than is necessary, and for once, it is she who is the Damsel in Shining Armour; how awesome is that! They also have some help from John and Amelia Noble, characters from Regan Black’s Bulletproof of the Brotherhood Protectors series. Jaime and Scott’s predicament was not an easy one, as both were nearly equally in the dark as what was happening. Their romance happened quickly, which was understandable given their circumstances and the length of the novella. While it’s short, MOVING TARGET has more plot twists than you could ever imagine; the writing is precise and vibrant, and the dialogues, as always, excellent.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Scott Blackwell and a few other soldiers were scooped up by Messenger and team from UI. They were forced to undergo the training and experiments that John Noble was also forced to undergo. Scott however has so far managed to resist being turned into an automaton, a killer for hire. But he does not have a lot of wriggle room and the shadows following him keep him in line. But when trying to evade them once again, he stumbles across Jaime. But he is torn when he realises that she is his target. He has managed to endanger her, even whilst trying to save her!
Jaime is no wimp. She is an Olympic athlete and a sharp shooter. But she soon realises that there is lot more to the scruffy but gentle man she offered a lift to. She is soon sucked into the maelstrom that UI always seem to kick up. But she and Scott have help of the invisible kind!
Loved this mash up of UI and Brotherhood Protectors. Hank makes a little cameo and John and Amelia are ready for the help he provides. Being on the run is hard enough without doing it whilst pregnant!
Jaime and Scott are a great match. She is cool, calm, collected and he is considerate and gentlemanly, even whilst he is an alpha man to the core. But it very much feels like Jaime is the one doing the saving!
While in the US Army, Scott Blackwell and two of his friends were unjustly charged and convicted of murder. Their “escape” from jail and subsequent fatal traffic accident is orchestrated by the nefarious black-ops agency Unknown Identities. In exchange for their freedom, Scott is tasked by Messenger to kill Jaime Castle. Scott struggles with the conflict of becoming a cold-blooded killer until he meets his target and knows he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
This is an exciting tale of intrigue and romance. The story is fast paced, action packed and engaging. It will definitely keep your attention. The characters are strong, interesting, and easy to empathize with. The narrative flows effortlessly with intrigue, emotions, and steamy romance. The storyline of the series is intense and compelling, and although each story can work as a standalone, it may be more enjoyable if the stories are read in succession. The characters are well written and integrated into the whole series. The books are hard to put down, with easy flow, full of action, strong emotions, and solid characterizations. I highly recommend you read this story and the series!
Book 5 this book continues with John, Amelia and Ben fighting to rescue the taken and stop the messenger. But it rewinds back in time, in the last book it was Ben finding love and Amelia and John had a one year old, plus Scott was working with Ben on spying (Scott just appeared in the last book with no talk of who he was) this is his story but in doing so we have gone back to Amelia being 2 months pregnant and the team of three steps in to help John (don't know where Adam or matt is, that was before her being pregnant to) I have read The guardian agency series and hank Patterson is in that allot in a crossover kind of way but have yet to read his journey and his series.I am wondering if John noble is the boss of the guardian agency it is a secret no one knows in the series it's run by two lawyer's for there client but we know he is a good guy??? Sounds like John noble. This book should of been before Ben found love and took on messenger
This is a great universe, it's my first step into the unknown identities world and it's a fabulous read. I love Scott and how determined he was to save his friends while staying a good citizen, it must not have been easy for him to be put in such conditions. He is able to adapt quite fast and stay focused i mean meeting Ben is not easy and it takes it in strike yes invisible man oki what next , it was funny.
Jaime is courageous and while we don't know yet why she was targeted she is the perfect match for Scott and she opens opportunities for John and Amelia so fate did well
really it's an interesting story, captivating with great characters who suffered greatly but stay on the justice side no matter what and are determined to help others. high tension, suspense, treachery and romance the perfect mix!
The latest in Regan Black’s Unknown Identities series is also part of Elle James’s Brotherhood Protectors Kindle World. Fans of both authors will find this to be the best of both worlds. Authors that haven’t read other installments of the Brotherhood Protectors series will not even realize it is part of the world because Black integrates the worlds so seamlessly. The action is non-stop and we get to revisit John and Amelia from the first book. This installment moves the entire Unknown Identities series in new and fun ways. If you need a lunchtime escape, this is about perfect.

Moving Target is another adrenaline-charged hit from Reagan Black! It builds perfectly on the momentum of the previous books, deepening the overarching plot while delivering its own heart-racing thrills. Familiar characters return with new challenges, and the tension never lets up. Fast-paced, emotionally rich, and full of sharp twists—this is exactly why I keep coming back to the series. Highly recommended for fans following the saga!
This is an all around excellent, well written story. It has excellent characters, storyline, and relevance to the Kindle World. This new to me author is very talented and has produced another rabbit hole that I really could have done without! But I think you will agree once the journey has begun you will be traveling the one click trail right along with me!
Scott and Jamie met when he stopped to help her with automobile problems. When he hears trouble coming they make a break for it and get to her grandmother's house. Then they meet Ben, John and Amelia. They help them with a plan to get them away from the Cleaners coming to kill them.
This is a new author for me to read. I enjoyed reading her story about Scott and Jamie. How the UI is trying to turn men and women in the military into super killers.
Moving Target lured me into the sinister, dark world of black ops, where everything goes, laws are just guidelines, manipulation and power games are the norm and super soldiers do exist with unique gifts to enhance their performance. I admit I am hooked. As soon as the bigger picture started to open up to me with the twisted, evil means the Unknown Identities (aka the UI) tries to 'recruit' new members, and who were the good guys and who were to be avoided, I wanted to go back and start from the beginning because I was hooked, intrigued and mesmerized by this creepy world the author had created. The characters were charming. But even more than charming, the trouble they were in because of the UI had put them into the position, that predicament made me feel for them. The way they were willing to sacrifice all for their brothers in arms, their protectiveness, and the need for justice is admirable, the constant fear and tension in the air is alluring in an eerie way. I genuinely liked Scott Blackwell and Jaime Castle. The way Scott was facing the challenge, his honesty and dignity just floored me. And Jaime, so calm, cool, composed even after finding there was a target in her back. How can you not admire that?! The way Scott and Jaime connected and bonded, their sincerity with each other, it was sexy and sweet in just the perfect dozes. It seems that the series is at a beginning of a new twist, so to say, with John Noble's return and the new location in Montana where they find themselves protecting Scott and Jaime against the UI. I will be going back to catch up from the start, but this also seemed like a great spot to jump in, so to speak, if you are a new for the series. Military action with a touch of super-powers, vicious battles against the UI who is a constant threat to their lives, combined with seductive romance with steamy love scenes is just a perfect way to heat up a winter night. ~ Four Spoons
