This was a good devotional. I enjoyed the coloring, scripture verses at the end of each chapter, and the reading. I do wish the reading was longer, but to make it longer I just used my Bible to find the verses instead of just reading them from the devotional itself. I recommend it to anyone who likes to color(There is two drawings to color for each chapter.) or who just wants a short devotional to read everyday. I only gave it three stars because I felt like I was doing more coloring than actually learning anything.

I read this book at the same time as Devoted: A Girl’s 31-Day Guide to Good Living with a Great God. I feel like both books were great reads.

Devoted Life was an amazing devotional. As with the book Devoted, I believe it is aimed for girls and young women, but I think women of any age can find some encouragement and truth in this book.

The devotions in this book felt shorter (maybe 1-2 pages) and then 1-2 pages of journal prompts with room to write your answers. They also featured 3 Bible passages for going deeper and some art pages for coloring.

All in all, a great book and I recommend it.

[I received an early review copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.]

Each entry includes a scripture, the devotional thought, several additional scriptures and then a handful of questions with space to jot responses as well as an image to color. Topics include relationships (friendships, family), identity, God's authority, prayer, reading the Bible, etc.

This devotional has a good format and good content, but I believe the reading level is too high for the target audience. I did a reading level assessment on three random entries, and they ranged from 11.1 (Junior year of high school) to 13.9 (end of Freshman year of college).

I had plenty of teen students who were strong readers and would have enjoyed a devotional like this, but I had plenty who would NOT have been able to work through the intricate text and would likely have given up. The questions were better suited for the age group (5.2-6.3 reading level), but even the beginning of the introduction to the book was written at a 9th grade level. Most contemporary fiction for adults runs in the 5th/6th grade range. I tested some random sample devotionals from two books for adults - Jesus Calling (5.2-7.6) and A Moment to Breathe (4.9-5.0) that fall in that range.

I think this would be fantastic for college students, and I believe the content would work for that older age group. And strong teen readers will be able to dig into this rich resource and get a lot out of it. But I think the writing may put off other readers who may struggle with it. I wish the book better reflected the full range of teen readers when it was put together.

Described as being for teen girls, “The Devoted Life” works just as well for adult women. This is the first “creative devotional journal” that I have ever explored, and it is very neat! The book itself is slim, which is handy for carrying in a purse or bag, and the imitation leather gives the book a more forgiving binding that allows for coloring and writing inside without too much hassle. Normally I would prefer a spiral-bound setup with this type of interactive book, but the imitation leather really does work quite well here. There is even a pink ribbon bookmark attached to the binding. Each section title appears in hand-drawn bubble letters, along with occasional small illustrations, to color; as such, the text is somewhat difficult to read, but I imagine that it would be easier once the letters are colored.

Each devotional consists of a Bible verse followed by a one-page commentary and three Scriptures for further study. There are five journal prompts related to the devotional, and out of these, at least one or two would be good for groups as well as individual reflection. The topics are easy to relate to and bring up common issues that everyone has dealt with at one time or another. Following the prompts, the Bible verse from the beginning of the devotional is drawn out for coloring. At the end of the book there are 9 pages with simple borders to “Create Your Own Hand-Lettered Scripture Art”. Just flipping through the book, it might seem a bit bland, but it lacks color because that’s where the reader’s creativity comes into play! What a fun, meaningful journal-devotional combination!

'This is a very nice devotional. The entire book is not very long, but what is within its pages makes up for the length. It is very fulfilling, giving the reader pause for reflection. Divided into 31 devotions, each consisting of a scripture verse, a devotion and a few scriptures for going deeper, it also has a section with questions to journal that are relevant to the devotion. Then there are also 2 pages to color. All in all, a quite nice book for a good study and quiet time. I've enjoyed it very much indeed.

Title: The Devoted Life: A Creative Devotional Journal

Author: Marjorie Jackson

Genre: Christian, Nonfiction, Journal, Devotional, Spiritual, Creative, Self-Help,

Plot: The market for devotionals is a very large one. We can search and find just about any type of devotional for every walk we might find ourselves on. There are devotionals for teen guys and girls, young adults, senior adults, kids, moms, for busy people, for the dark days of our lives, for gratitude and many other areas of life. Some of these devotionals come with built-in spaces for journaling our thoughts - usually just a few lines at the end of the chapter. Some come with companion journals but that is an extra purchase.

Enter Marjorie Jackson's little creation. Here we have, in a gorgeous dusty rose faux leather cover, a complete devotional journal. There are thirty-one sections with their own unique cover picture for us to color followed by a brief story or encouraging thoughts. Then come the fun journal prompts. After that comes another hand-drawn picture for us to fill in. At the back of the journal are some creative pages for us to do with as we please. And finally, what journal isn't complete with a lovely ribbon marker to keep our place?

Likes/Dislikes: I love journals. I have something of an addiction to smelling them, touching their gorgeous blank pages whispering of potential and hunting down the loveliest covers. So getting a hold of this extra special journal was a must for me. I really like the journal/coloring book combo that is going on here; it is unique and really makes me want to color all the pictures in. The introduction was admittedly two pages too long in my opinion and I feel like the space for each journal prompt is not enough. I like the 365 Questions journals even though the spaces are tiny in those, but I wanted longer journaling space with this. All in all, lovely but not really the journal for me.

Rating: G-all ages, geared more toward teens and adults.

This book is fabulous! It is like three books in one, a devotional, a journal, and a place to relax while contemplating the scripture while coloring/doodling/drawing. The title says it's a creative devotional journal, which describes it perfectly. The book has 31 sections for you to complete at your leisure - one per day or stretch out each section as long as you care to reflect. Some of the topics include Selfishness, Humility, Living Wisely, Being Teachable, Determining God's Will as the goal of the book is to show us how to live of lives fully devoted to Christ. Each section begins with a coloring page with the sections main idea, followed by the scripture and summary. After you're finished with the reading there are suggested Bible versus offered to dig a bit deeper, followed by journal prompts, and another coloring page. You can see that each section offers you plenty to do to possibly consider each message over time. I find that I enjoy stretching out each section for a week or more to really think about it. Obviously some sections will require more or less thought depending on you!
It's such a beautiful book too which gives the reader even more pleasure with a pretty pink leather-like soft cover. This book is marketed to teens and young adults but I am enjoying it as an older adult, it's a fun and interactive way to get your scripture teachings and reflection time. I'm really enjoying this book and highly recommend it!

Marjorie Jackson's "A Devoted Life" is a 31-day creative journaling experience that will teach you how to live a life fully devoted to Christ. Each day, or section, gives you an opportunity to be creative by coloring inspirational quotes or Scripture or using creative writing, or journaling, with prompts that will guide your creative process.  The section also includes a short devotional covering topics relating to being devoted to Christ, such as prayer, Bible reading, forgiveness, determining God's will, etc., as well as a list of Scriptures that will help you go deeper with your study.

The world is trying to mislead us into thinking that devotion to Christ and making Him a priority in our lives is not important, but it is, in fact, the most important thing we can do in this life.  While the 31 sections can be used daily, you can also take each section slowly and cover the topics in more depth.

The imitation leather cover is a gorgeous rose color. You can make the inside your own whether you color, or write, or both.  "The Devoted Life" is a great gift for yourself or someone special.  It will be treasured.

"The Devoted Life" is targeted for young adults but I am many years past this age group and I am thrilled with this book! It is labeled as a creative journal and there are 208 pages that allow you to explore your own creativity. "The Devoted Life" is divided into 31 sections and the beginning page of each section lists the topic and offers you a page to color. This is followed by a Bible verse that is applicable to the topic and devotional thoughts to add to your worship time. Additional scriptures allow you to go deeper into study and journal prompts help spur your thinking and offer a place to record your own thoughts. The final page of each section is another coloring page and it features the Bible scripture that began the section. This journal concludes with several blank pages that offer you a place to feature your own special verses and create your own special pages.

I am very impressed with both the outward appearance and the inward quality of this book. The imitation-leather cover is a beautiful pink color and it is soft enough to allow the journal to be easily written in. This is a wonderful choice for anyone wanting to enhance their worship time and I look forward to using my own copy in the new year ahead. I also believe that "The Devoted Life: A Creative Devotional Journal" will be great for gift-giving also!

Spiritually and Creatively Provoking

The Devoted Life by Marjorie Jackson is a creative devotional journal that draws the audience closer to God and brings us back to a life that is devoted and dedicated to God. Jesus should be the center of our lives, the center of our devotion and not just “a compartment of one’s life”. In creating this journal, Marjorie Jackson hopes that “our hearts, minds, bodies, and sous will be utterly infected with passion for and loyalty to the object of our dedication.” The devotional journal contains 31 sections, each with a different theme which would ideally correspond to a different day. The topics are all something that is applicable to the intended audience’s life. Throughout the day, I often find myself dwelling upon the theme as I relate it to the things I encounter. The devotionals draw me spiritually deeper and the verses listed after every devotional come alive with power. The journal prompts or discussion questions cause you to reflect and ponder. Included in the journal are over 60 scripture coloring pages to unleash your creative genius. Each section begins and ends with a coloring. The journal is enclosed in a rose gold leather cover. Overall, this journal is an amazing tool to deepen your passion for Jesus that would also make a perfect gift!

“The Devoted Life” by Marjorie Jackson is a super cute devotional journal. This beautiful devotional is geared towards teenage girls, but would also be perfect for adult women. I’m considering using myself.

The books cover is imitation leather which is gorgeous and adds to the fun of coloring and writing in this journal. It is also the perfect size for carrying around in a purse or for traveling purposes. There is a pink ribbon bookmark attached as well. Each section includes speech in hand-drawn bubble letters along with an illustration to color. I highly recommend colored pencils for this as markers bleed through.

Each day is divided into different topics. Topics include relationships (friendships & family), giving God our everything, prayer, reading the Bible, God’s authority, and so forth. The author gives at three verses to tie in her short note of the day’s topic. She also includes personal and thought-provoking questions to journal about. These questions would be perfect for discussion as well.

She also has an entire section where you can create your own illustrations or add your own thoughts. The author is both encouraging and challenging readers to grow in their walks.

Overall, this is one I’d highly recommend.

Marjorie Jackson has compiled a lovely creative coloring journal and topical devotional book in this volume. Beginning with an introductory word about our relationship with Jesus and the gift of salvation, the author encourages the user of this journal to take a journey with her to deepen that relationship and grow spiritually. The book itself is a soft cover of imitation leather and is just over 200 pages--pages that are filled with a variety of ways to be creative in being intentional in one's devotional life. There are 60 hand-drawn scripture verses pictures for coloring as well as a number of blank pages for one's own creative drawings or writings. The book is divided into 30 sections with each section having thoughts from the author, scriptures for going deeper, journal prompts to stimulate the reader's own thoughts regarding the subject of the section, and the coloring pages. Some of the subjects included are The Power of the Tongue, Doing It All Unto Him, and Why Share Your Faith and others that encourage thought about family, identity, and ministry. I like that this devotional journal can be an excellent choice for a gift to encourage a young believer or as a tool for a mature Christian to continue to deepen her relationship with Jesus.

It’s fitting that my first book review of 2019 is of an interactive book, because one of my focuses this year is to better exercise my right brain (creative side.)

I love journals, devotionals, coloring books—or any source that gets my creative and spiritual juices flowing. The Devoted Life is a creative devotional journal designed to encourage and inspire. It includes thought-provoking Scripture verses, journaling prompts, coloring pages, and meditations. It is designed for teens, but there’s no reason I have to be young to enjoy it.

The leather-like cover is flexible and pretty, and the attached ribbon place-marker is a nice perk. There isn’t a single thing I don’t love about this book.

The Devoted Life by Marjorie Jackson is absolutely brilliant! This book is a young woman’s devotional that also includes journal prompts and coloring pages. The devotions are divided into 31 sections each on their own topic. This makes it easy to skip around and read whatever devotion you need for the day.

Each section starts and ends with a picture to color. There is a verse before the devotional and also several “Scriptures For Going Deeper” after the devotional. Following the “Scriptures For Going Deeper” is the journal prompts.

I really enjoyed how the book features multiple journal prompts for every section. I also really liked that while each devotional had a single preceding it, it also had several after if you would like to read more. Both of these things make it so you can do a quick devotional and journaling session or you can really take your time.

I give this book 5 stars. It is creative, practical, and wonderfully written. This is a wonderful gift for any young woman in your life.

The Devoted Life by Marjorie Jackson is a beautiful interactive devotional for young women that, in my less self-aware moments, I would be tempted to give to dozens of young friends who simply might not appreciate it. It is a gorgeous blend of rich, theological daily challenges, thoughtful questions with space for journaling, and images for coloring that expressively integrate the theme for each devotion.

Ultimately, this devotional is for the young woman in her teens or twenties who has a dedicated relationship with Jesus Christ. She may be a new or mature Christian, but she is someone who brings to the table a pre-existing desire to connect with Jesus.

Other young women who do not already spend time reading God’s word and seeking to grow as a believer, will likely find this book pretty, but irrelevant. A better gift for such a woman would be dedicated prayer for her to grow in her desire for the things of the Lord. And once evidence of such growth is shown, she will be a wonderful candidate for this devotional journal!

The Devoted Life by Marjorie Jackson is a creative journal. It combines pictures to color, if you're into that type of thing, which I'm not, and a journal pages with questions to consider after reading a little entry to better develop your Christian walk. Some of the questions are deep with Biblical quotations to back them up. I enjoy some of the concept, but it feels a little too rushed in some sections. I wish there was more meat to some of the sections. It would be nice to develop some of the ideas more instead of jumping right into the next colored page. The cover is nice and beautifully bond. I looked forward to a creative way to journal and spend time with God, but I don't think this is the one for me. Overall, readers that like to have a few minutes with God every morning might think this is the perfect journal for them. I just like more depth to my study.

This is a wonderful Devotional and Creative Journal for young ladies, teens, and tweens. Anyone just beginning their walk with the Lord and eager to create a daily routine with time spent with God, digging into His word, and finding creative ways to apply it to their lives will enjoy The Devoted Life. God's Word encourages us to dwell on the good things and meditate on Him. Adding creative journaling to our daily Bible study and devotions encourages dwelling and meditating on His goodness. Each passage begins with a topic page to color and decorate and includes a single page devotion, an additional page of suggested scriptures for deeper study, two pages of questions and journal prompts, and a creative scripture page to also color and decorate. There are 31 passages total. The devotion comes in a pretty pink soft leather cover that pairs perfectly with your Bible.

A wonderful gift book for girls, can be used by women, also. The author leads you in a wonderful course to explore your creative self (even if you think you aren't a creative person) and learn how to be a better Christian at the same time. There are color pages along with a lesson to learn. There is space in the book to write notes and pencil in anywhere you feel led. Book comes with a ribbon bookmark, so you never have to worry about losing your place.

It will make a nice addition to your personal library. I like to think of family members in the future, sitting down with it and learning about me & there is room, they can write down their own thoughts as well. Could be a way to connect with your teen or tween, both of you can learn the lessons together & compare coloring pages.

This is a perfect devotional journal to begin the new year with. There are 31 sections or chapters with titles such as How to Read the Bible, Standing Up for What’s Right, Joy, Living Wisely along with 27 other timely and relevant topics. Each section has a short devotion, scriptures pertaining to the subject, journal prompts in the form of questions with several blank lines under each one and two coloring pages with scriptures and section topics.
There is a beautiful satiny cover and a ribbon marker to hold your place from day to day. This is the perfect way to draw closer to Jesus as you use the topics to begin a thoughtful conversation externally with others or internally with yourself and God. I’m looking forward to using this tool to bring more meaning to my life in this new year coming up.

This journal is marketed as a 30-day journal for teen girls. However, as a 57 yr.-old woman, I found it inspirational and instructive...and I'm using each section as a five-day study. The journal prompts are especially helpful in applying the scriptures to your daily life. Topics discussed include relationships (friendships, family), identity, God's authority, prayer, reading the Bible, etc. At the end of the book, there are 9 pages with simple borders to “Create Your Own Hand-Lettered Scripture Art.” The book looks a little bland when you first look through it, but once the reader colors some of the pictures and writes about the journal prompts, there will be a lot of color, and each book will be unique.

This is a very nice creative coloring journal and devotional for teen girls probably at high school level. It covers such topic such as identity, the power of the tongue, how to read the Bible, defending your faith, forgiveness, prayer, true love, humility, being a good friend, living wisely, and trusting God with your future. Each chapter starts off with a topic/theme, scripture and discussion, additional scriptures for going deeper, a series of journal prompts to help you formulate your thoughts and feelings and ways to incorporate them into your daily life, and some doodle art and creative pictures to help with your creative energy. There are 31 sections so this could be a great month long journaling/ devotional practice or could be used once a week.

What a great impression when I opened the Devoted Life devotional! A beautifully put-together book that can be used several ways.

It begins in a section with an inspirational message, then scriptures for going deeper, prompts for the journal that have excellent questions for the reader to answer that helps with journaling. Following that is a 2-page art display that can be colored in to make it so very personal as well as beautiful.
Even though I have been active in keeping a journal I found this one to be extra special, a true keeper forever. It is extremely personal.

I love this feminine devotional! It makes a very thoughtful gift especially for teen girls.

The Devoted Life Creative Journal by Marjorie Jackson is delightful. It is marketed and labeled as being for teen girls, but any woman could use it. There are 31 devotions so this is a month of inspiration and encouragement.

The book itself is rather small and slender. It would easily slip inside a purse or tote. The cover is a sleek stylish imitation leather and doesn’t look like a young girl. There is an attached pink ribbon bookmark to keep reader’s place marked.

At the beginning of each section is the title along with small illustrations to color. The daily devotion consists of scripture followed by one-page commentary and three additional scriptures for in-depth study. There is room to journal any thoughts from the lesson or prayers.

This would make a wonderful small group study for older teens or young adult ladies. Actually any ladies’ group would enjoy it. Topics are relevant and timely. Friendship, family, relationships, God, trust, and prayer are just a sampling of the subjects tackled. Lessons are short enough to get finished in a little amount of time but long enough to teach readers. It has plenty of free “create your own” spaces.

The coloring and journaling devotional are becoming very popular. After looking at some others, I can honestly say this is one of the better ones. Don’t be misled when you thumb through it. It will look pale and drab. It is just a plain coloring journal. Wait until your creative ideas take over and colors bloom on the pages. It will be a masterpiece to treasure for years to come.

I highly recommend this lovely, God glorifying Journal. I have twin granddaughters and look forward to buying each of them a copy when they are a bit older. In fact, I plan on doing it with them. It would be a wonderful group project, gift, or something to buy yourself. I give this a 5 out of 5 stars and hope there are more to come.

This was one of my first devotionals I picked up myself as a new christian and I am happy that I did. It has topics related to everyday life: identity, prayer, reading the bible, defending your faith, and so forth. I enjoyed each chapter and I even come back to this book till this day. My favorite layout for devotionals was this book. Where it started off with a bible verse, then commentary, followed by more bible verses to look into, and lastly mutiple questions to dive deeper in your faith. And every section has a colorbook page to color in, where you can take the time to relax, pray or even have fun just coloring. I recommend this book to anyone new in faith or if you need a refresher in your faith journey.

Nice devotional journal

First of all let me say that the journal itself is very stunning. This would make a nice addition to someone's Bible reading and devotion. It has pages to color, which I love doing, and it has questions to ponder and answer. There are 31 sections, so it can be spread out over the course of the year. I like it and recommend it as an “additional” devotional. It's targeted for teens, but I think it is worded in a way that adults could get a lot from it as well.

What a beautiful journal! The rose-gold colored leather cover lends it to a treasured keepsake. It is topic driven and just the perfect amount to read for inspiration and help. Then there are scriptures to add to the topic to further along your walk in Christ. Next come the discussion type questions to dig deeper and open your heart. Lastly for each little devotional there are a few scripture color pages! Perfectly beautiful for any teenager wanting to grow in her walk with God! This is a great gift idea, too. I loved every part of it.

I absolutely love The Devoted Life journal! While the messages you read speak to your heart, it also provides you with a place to write down your innermost thoughts and prayers, while at the same time allowing for a creative outlet in the form of coloring or drawing/sketching. As someone who has never had a creative journal, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it!

If you enjoy journaling or creative outlets, I think you would enjoy The Devoted Life creative journal.
