I admit, I bought this book based off the cover, which had caught my eye as I was looking through light novels.

The concept of a werewolf mage is an interesting one, and I have to say I actually quite enjoyed it a lot. I can see why the author was picked up as quick as he was, everything just meshes so well in this story.

In the author's address to the reader at the end of the book, Hyougetsu explains why they used the writing style that they did, and why the novel starts where it does and why there is an added chapter at the end that shows the protagonist as a child. (and just how much of his previous life he remembers, as this is an isekai story) The style choice of the author works really well with the story and definitely helps the reader move along from one scene to another. I was a bit slow at the start, but the more I read the faster I devoured the pages.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story in this novel. It's very much the starting book in a series, setting up the characters and their relationships to each other. Not a lot happens, but everything that does carries weight to it and does a good job helping to establish the characters and their morals. Veight is a good protagonist and he shows that through his actions, something you don't see as often as you should in light novels, where things tend to be put in giant exposition dumps.

The way things play out also helps to add a certain level of realism to the fantasy world that Hyougetsu has built up. It's not so realistic as to be brutal and tear the reader out of the story, but it's not too fantastic as to require the reader to do more heavy lifting to suspend their disbelief. The werewolves are handled well, the 'demon' races are handled well, and the human politics play a well balanced role. (not too heavy, not too light)

So why four stars and not five?
As much as I enjoyed it, it just didn't hit that full sweet spot for me. The beginning of the book, which handled well, had a bit of a pacing issue I found. Hyougetsu partially did this because this was meant to draw the reader in and start in the middle of the story, but at the same time, setting up the parameters of a newly conquered city just isn't that riveting until you get into the conflicts and such that come with it.

In the end, I really enjoyed this book and immediately bought the next one in the series. There is a lot someone who is looking to get into light novels can learn from this book, and I think anyone who enjoys unique isekai light novels would do well to purchase this novel.

One of the good isekai (?) Genre novel !

This story is about Veight, a weremage ( and reincarnate from another world ) from demon army. He lead his werewolf friends and neighbors to invade Ryunheit and claim it as their town.

There are many good things about this novel, The author knows how to balance things between comedy and action. Every character seem to have a live of their own and not some brainless character. And the occassional change of pov is refreshing. And the fact that the human is the enemy in this novel is fascinating as well.

However, this novel isnt really "true" isekai as the MC, Veight, seldom used his knowledge of the past. And considering the fact that this novel is supposed to be an invasion type novel, there are not that many strategy involved and more of a brute-force method type of attack.

All in all, I am glad I have picked this novel, seems like this novel will be on my watchlist from now on!

It took a new angle onto the reincarnated into a new world theme. He is a vice commander of the demon army instead of the Hero or the demon lord.

This was a pretty good read. I'd been wanting to try it for a while, and it's free this month due to a promotion on J-Novel Club, so I finally got the chance to pick it up! While it took me around a quarter of the story to really get into it, this book definitely ended up being pretty interesting. Veight is a likable protagonist, and the people around him are fun as well. I enjoyed Veight's internal monologue, and his life is pretty interesting, what with him being a reincarnator, werewolf, mage, and vice-commander in the demon lord's army and all. Good translation, entertaining story. Would recommend. 4 stars.

Der werewolf is a series Im glad I picked up. I really liked the war and conquering aspect of this novel but I found that it was a bit too heavy on that and there weren’t enough character moments for my liking. I also prefer to have some more light hearted moments in my novels which this one did not have. These 2 things are more personal preferences than actual criticisms though. I really liked how you would get the perspective of other characters occasionally and I thought that really added to the story. The side story at the end was also a nice addition but a bit boring. Overall a solid first novel and I can’t wait to read more.

really like this story. Not a common thing like, y`know, all the other stories about one overpowered person to overwhelm everything or something like that. Also its new and really enjoying for me to see this, cause its story about humans vs demons, but here demons are shown more like just other races wich got cornered and retaliated, not just decided to wipe/enslave humanity or something. Its really interesting to see how they try to find ways around simple destruction (well aside from some characters i guess, but their existence is reasonable). So, well, to put is simply i recommend this.

I think this is one of the few isekai light novels I've read where there isn't any empahsis on where the main character came from, or what he did, or anything about his character his time 'before' now. It also has multiple reincarnated people, which is interesting from the perspective of plot, and that these individuals can exist at the same time in this world while coming from vastly different times in 'our' world.
Also, Canines are stupid and adorable. I want 1000 of them.

I enjoyed vol.1 and 2 very much, but it took time to complete vol.3 because a reason (you'll know when you finished vol.2)
It's great light novel. Focused on politics and war between humans and demons. The romance subplot is... very lowkey to non-existent, even though there are many girls (rationally) interested in our protagonist. Story is enjoyable.

Rational and merciful monster

Demon general, werewolf and mage our hero is also a good administrator. Not unprecedented, violent Romans and Mongols understood that freedom of religion and local customs made cooperative subjects.

I know that this obliviously-single-but-with-a-potential-harem character is a trope in isekai, but I'm pretty susceptible to it. To be fair, I'm susceptible to most isekai. But they're such mindlessly entertaining reads - I just plowed through 5 volumes of this series in a single afternoon...

Really solid isekai series which dials down my least favourite things about many isekai (complete OPness, random harems), and dials up some of my favourites (society building, found family etc). Weirdly heartwarming for something with rather a lot of violence.

I really like this series. The characters are a lot of fun especially the main character. The action, politics and variety of locations are good too.

Cerita isekai tipe kesukaan saya yaa gini. Gak tiba-tiba overpowered, lebih fokus ke pengembangan negeri, lebih fokus ke cara tokoh utama berpolitik.
