Overall Series Review:
This three-book story had so many elements that I love...mafia-ish, anti-hero possessive asshole, forced proximity with dubious consent, and really really strong chemistry between the main couple. I loved Crewe, I loved London, and I loved them so much together.
I just really loved this series and will for sure be re-reading it in the future. Highly recommend for those who like the details I mentioned above. That said, this definitely won't be for everyone, but it totally worked for me. Also, it's not what some would consider "safe," so don't try this if that matters to you.

Crewe is one of the greatest criminals of the underworld. He runs two companies, one illegal (selling intelligence) and the other one is Scotch. London’s brother stole an amount of money from him, so Crewe took London as a prisoner for revenge and to show others don’t mess with him.
"Every time they see London chained to the wall during a business meeting, they’ll think twice. When they witness her cruel treatment, her rags for clothes, they’ll know deception isn’t worth it … Just know London is wishing for death."
When London opened her eyes, saw herself chained in a cell but she never lost herself and that was what I loved about her! Actually I loved everything about her. she was so fierce, smarta$$, so courageous, so clever… she is like a challenge for him.
"I’m gonna get out of here. And when I do, I’m going to rip your eyes out of your head and shove them up your ass."
Loved this story! I liked both MCs but I loved London, I liked Crewe too but I liked him more if he let London have some control over him too. This one was my first read by this author but definitely won’t be my last and I have in my mind to read all the books in this series! Told in dual POV, 1st person. It’s the first installment in the "Scotch" series and it ended with a mild cliffhanger. Looking forward to reading the second book. I hope you enjoy it as well!

Honestly couldn't even finish it. This book glorifies violence against women and I don't see the main male antagonist, Crewe ever getting what he deserves unless he dies at the end or becomes a slave himself. I never got far enough into the book to know his back story but no amount of back story could ever redeem this character in my opinion. He is evil, so is his assistant and the butler. They are horrible people who I have no sympathy for and no interest in knowing anything about. I had to stop reading this at the point were he tries to sell London off and she convinces him otherwise in a degrading way. I'm just disgusted by this book and there is no redeeming the first 100 pages of this book to me. It wasn't sexy, it wasn't fun to read, It wasn't interesting enough to make me finish it, It just made me angry and sick to my stomach. Don't read this book.

Yea, 2 stars is definitely pushing it.
I feel like I should have read this series before the "Buttons and Lace" series.
Anyways, this installment is about Crewe and London. London's older brother screws over Crewe and in order to get his revenge on Joey, he kidnaps his sister. He was going to sell her to Bones but he had a change of heart.
London tried to escape a few times but it doesn't work. Crewe degrades her by making her undress and walk around his "castle" in front of his staff, slaps her around, chokes her, allowed Bones to punch her, almost sold her into sex trafficking and didn't stand up to Dunbar when he beat her....twice. Crewe blackmails London into sleeping with him in order to save her brother. She's raped under duress and while all of this is happening, dumbass London says, "he protects me, treats me good and we have conversations." Get this, she's even jealous of females she thinks Crewe is sleeping with or has slept with. I mean, TF?!?!
I yelled at my iPad *in my Samuel L. Jackson voice* "BITCH PLEASE!!!!!!" If this isn't the epitome of Stockholm Syndrome then I don't know what is!
If anyone has read any of my reviews, you'd know that I can't stand weak heroines. I really enjoyed Buttons and Lace because Button didn't take any sh*t but London...yea, it's a no for me. 🤦🏾♀️

Crewe was delicious! Let me just get that out there before anything else about this book. He was freaking yummy!! Penelope Sky did me a huge favor with this character. I find that usually, when an author calls their story a dark captive story, that they will still soft sell it. Not this author. When his captive acted up, he was quick to put her in her place... until he fell for her.
After catching her hand as she went to slap him, Crewe gave her a backhand across the face... "If you don't want me to slap you, don't slap me. If you don't want me to hurt you, do as I say."
London was the worst kind of captive. She talked back, she acted up, and she felt entitled. I couldn't stand her, but I lived for every time that Crewe snuffed out her entitlement or reminded her of her situation. I loved when one of her many questions went unanswered. I loved when he degraded her, demeaned her, humiliated her, and made her feel less than. Crewe is the only reason this book gets three stars and if I do continue to with this series, it would be just to see more of him.

3 Meh Stars
I was really interested in reading a book by Penelope Sky. I’ve seen her books all over and I wanted to see what the hype is about.
Here’s the thing. Sometimes reading a book is a lot better than listening to a book. Sometimes it’s better to power through the words and get to the root of the storyline, then suffer through the verbiage.
I really liked the male narrator – Michael Ferraiuolo. I didn’t understand why he had a British accent, even though it’s about a Scottish dude, well I think it was kind of explained but that confused me. I wasn’t too fond of his voice transitions, but I really liked his pace.
I wasn’t a fan of Samantha Cook, the female narrator. She read a touch too slow for me and I was struggle through her parts. I think after 3 hours I finally got use to it. When she did Crewe’s voice she did it as an American voice and that kind of threw me off too. I wished it was with a British accent, but I’m just being picky.
I love a good kidnapping book, but I couldn’t connect with either characters.
I felt like Crewe wasn’t mean enough. He’s suppose to be this powerful ruthless man that has sold women in the past, but he can’t rape the heroine? I’m not saying I want him to rape her, but he was just kind of a pussy to me. At times he tried to be manly but I couldn’t get into it.
I found the Heroine too strong. I know right? I usually like a strong Heroine, but she kept on demanding certain things and Crewe would just give in. Maybe not all the time, but I wanted him to be really mean to her.
I tried to get into the storyline. I tried to understand why Crewe does what he does and how everyone is part of the book, but I just for the life of me couldn’t connect.
In the end, it’s an okay book with an okay storyline. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I could have read it with a faster pace. I’m not sure if I will continue with the series, but I will read another book by this author.

I hadn’t even made it through the sample before the main male character slapped the female character across the face. Absolutely horrific. Young women should not be allowed to read shit like this. Since the “author” of this book didn’t extend the courtesy of attaching content warnings, please be advised that if you are the victim of sexual violence or domestic abuse, you might find this story emotionally distressing.
I’ve read some fucked up shit in my day, but this really takes the cake. I normally enjoy a good anti-hero, especially in the form of a jaded criminal kingpin, but this is just torture porn. There is no substance!! “Crewe” has no discernable ethos. He’s just a bad guy who does bad things, because tough.
Except then he kidnaps an innocent young girl because her brother took some money and she’s got nice tits so, that’s something. And then, when she tries to kill him— because, you know, he’s holding her captive against her will on an isolated island and made several thinly veiled threats of sexual violence— he’s like well now you deserve to be raped for sure. And then when she’s like please don’t rape me he decides not to. I’m sorry— what was that? Was that supposed to be a sign of character development?!?!?
This fucking book is disgusting.

I was expecting very dark and twisted adult romance. I mean with the kidnapping and the promise of sex slave premesis, it got to be twisted and dark right? But my expectation is really too high. The story opens with such promise of dark romance. When the story progresses, it becomes the next FSOG. And I sort of disappointed.
I do like London. She is a fearless and feisty character. When the dark circumstances fall upon her, she stood her ground and fighting tooth and nails. I do admire that from her. What baffled me is Crewe. He is suppose to be anti hero. The character who brings that dark twisted plot into the story. It turns out he is like teddy bear. And the insta lust is not believable. I mean for Crewe, the King of Underworld, he falls too quickly under London's charm and distress. That makes his character.... not appealing.
The plot and twist is also plain. I was expecting more. Maybe I do have high expectation for this kind of story.
Overall I do enjoy the book OK. I do not like it, but I do not hate it either.

This book has gotten a bad rap from readers who clearly have never read Penelope's work before. She pushes the limits of dark and has you feeling things that can make some uncomfortable. I have read all of her books and they have had me angry, tense, and sobbing. If you stick with it, it's an incredible journey. Do NOT read this book if you cannot hold hands with the darkness.

This author does write all her female MC stronger and better, and thats what really made this book is good read.
This wasn't and insta-love, the plot has a good consistency and wonderful growth of characters.

Technically this is a DNF.
I’ve seen the book cover and “heard” lots of buzz about this series. But after reading the first couple of chapters, I was done. 1) I don’t go in for revenge-kidnapping-hostage books, especially those that try to pass themselves off as “romances”, 2) the harshness of Crewe doesn’t “read” as alpha male to be, but rather a**hole.
Yes, one could argue that Beauty and the Beast is similarly themed. I’ll argue back that there’s a difference between a fairy tale that I know before starting will end well and not include things I can’t unsee and unread.

Mein Hauptproblem war, dass ich London nicht verstanden habe.
Sie wird entführt, gegen ihren Willen festgehalten und hat dann, nach allem, was noch passiert, kein Problem mit dem Protagonisten zu schlafen ...
I mean ... Ist das ihr Ernst?!
Und der Erotikanteil fiel nicht zu klein aus.
Zum Schluss gab es ein paar Aspekte, die ich ganz interessant fand, weswegen ich mich nicht für zwei oder drei 🌟 entscheiden konnte.

After reading Crow Barsetti and Pearl, I wanted to read this guy too, specifically knowing how Penelope Sky writes cold asf men with compassion and fierce women.

It was just two to five chapters I started wondering what did I pick again? because our man Crewe this gentleman got pussy whipped so real quick, just four days later your captor makes jokes because he doesn't like seeing sour look on your face? I'm like Penelope don't do this, do me dirty. DIRTY.

I feel like I should point out this book takes place before the start of the Buttons series. I thought it was going to be a completely different story before I started to read this book. Then Bones was mentioned and that was when I knew. The beginning totally sucked me in, then mainly London started to get a little repetitive on me on how she talked to Crewe and Ariel when she is held captive on the island. That started to annoy me a bit.
At the halfway mark, I was beginning to wonder where is this book going to lead to? I then also felt slightly disconnected at times with both Crewe and London's relationship. I'm still curious to see where this leads to.

Penelope Sky is on my auto read list and I will admit to being extra excited about The Scotch King's release. After reading the blurb I literally rubbing my hands together in anticipation. This has everything I love in a story! Crewe intrigued me to no end. He kidnaps London as an act of revenge against her brother who stole four million dollars from him. He comes off as cold and ruthless, but you can tell there is much more to Crewe once you scratch the surface. London was so fiesty! Her spunk and force of will definitely made Crewe begin to second guess his initial plans for her. I enjoyed The Scotch Kind tremendously. I was thrilled to be on vacation as I found it impossible to put down!

The Scotch King takes a girl as a slave as payback to her brother. Well, she's not a weak, scared wallflower. She's strong and he likes that in her. And he's not as bad as he seems.
While I didn't absolutely love this to the level I did with Buttons, it was still a good story.

I liked this, mostly. I just didn't connect with the characters. Didn't really like them that much. So, meh. This is the first in a trilogy, the second book The Scotch Queen is available with the third book, the Scotch Royals releasing 8/22/17. I won't be reading the next books, it was a struggle just to finish this

Penelope Sky est en train de s’imposer dans le monde du dark erotica et elle s’en tire franchement très bien. Elle revient avec ce premier opus d’une nouvelle série vaguement reliée à la première d’ailleurs. Cette fois-ci, l’essentiel de l’intrigue se déroule en Écosse autour d’un autre héros dont l’auteure a le secret : c’est aussi un magnat des affaires qui travaille aux limites de l’illégalité bien souvent. Après le vin toscan qui était la couverture officielle du héros de la première série, voilà le whisky écossais, production très honnête de Crewe.
L’auteure et c’est un peu la limite de cette nouvelle série, innove peu mais elle parfait son style de livre en livre et maîtrise totalement la psychologie de ses personnages ici. Nous sommes une fois de plus dans le dark erotica donc attendez-vous à des pratiques peu orthodoxes, à des héros à la morale élastique et aux mœurs qui peuvent choquer. Crewe ne respecte pas vraiment la jeune femme et il a une conception bien particulière des rapports sexuels ou non à avoir avec elle. Cela reste plutôt soft dans le genre tout de même mais vous voilà prévenus!
Crewe est donc un homme d’affaires et un trafiquant et quand un des hommes avec qui il travaille lui vole quelques millions de dollars, sa vengeance consiste à enlever sa sœur. C’est une jeune femme belle et brillante, qui fait des études de médecine à New York. Elle va se retrouver soudain dans un château écossais hors d’âge avec un homme qui a décidé de l’utiliser pour se rembourser : elle sera vendue comme esclave sexuelle. Et nous avons alors l’occasion de revoir le vrai méchant de la première série ! Mais, Crewe va se trouver bizarrement attiré par London. Bizarrement, car il est handicapé des sentiments et ne fait en général pas dans l’empathie ni les sentiments. Plutôt que de la vendre, il décide de garder la jeune femme. Ainsi commence une liaison inhabituelle, pas totalement voulue ni souhaitée par London, même si elle est curieusement attirée par Crewe et touchée par le personnage.

Crewe est donc un homme d’affaires et un trafiquant et quand un des hommes avec qui il travaille lui vole quelques millions de dollars, sa vengeance consiste à enlever sa sœur. C’est une jeune femme belle et brillante, qui fait des études de médecine à New York. Elle va se retrouver soudain dans un château écossais hors d’âge avec un homme qui a décidé de l’utiliser pour se rembourser : elle sera vendue comme esclave sexuelle. Et nous avons alors l’occasion de revoir le vrai méchant de la première série ! Mais, Crewe va se trouver bizarrement attiré par London. Bizarrement, car il est handicapé des sentiments et ne fait en général pas dans l’empathie ni les sentiments. Plutôt que de la vendre, il décide de garder la jeune femme. Ainsi commence une liaison inhabituelle, pas totalement voulue ni souhaitée par London, même si elle est curieusement attirée par Crewe et touchée par le personnage.

After reading this book, I felt the need to write a review to express the intense dislike I held for what the author had written.
The blurb of the book is intriguing I admit; like a darker retelling of beauty and the beast.
I started reading the book and I was interested but having a tea break from reading I realised it was rape propaganda.
I am very disturbed about the authors version of consent which is now spread internationally. And have to state the FACTS of consent that were abdicated during this story telling:
When an individual is “wet/hard” in their private areas it doesn’t mean they WANT to have sex.
When an individual has limited/no choice in saying “no” it means that any answer to sex is not consensual.
When an individual is being raped and has an orgasm it is not proof of consent.
When an individual has not been provided with full lifestyle/sexual accounts it dismisses informed consent.
In this book the male character lead has his chapters stating it would be “fun” to have to the female character struggle during sex or have no choice. This character is irredeemable and is likely to be a serial rapist - but is written to be “dominant”.
The author has defiled the term of being a dominant and submissive in the bedroom. Those relationships are about trust and consent which this book lacks in abundance.
It’s safe to say I will not be supporting Penelope Sky by reading her other books as their internal meaning is damaging to sexual kink culture, and positively enforces rape.

So this is going to be the review of the all serie.
The core story was entertaining but nothing new...
Crewe's background is forced... The guy is a Duke like royalty, with more money than some small countries, has a scotch mega business and somehow still managed to be in the black market of information trade, it’s like there is a need to justify the kidnapping and his “dark and ruthless background” that we don’t see it!
He is a little cold in the beginning and then got pussy whipped fast!!
London was a though girl, she was a fighter and didn't stop fighting… She ends up using sex to have her way and falls in love with Crewe.
In not one to complain, but book 2 has too much sex (like at least 3 times a day, every day) and lack in story developed.
Book 3 is too much drama, the story drags… London with such strong personality got push around AND Crewe was so meek… grrrr…
