**Full-length standalone romance. 70,000+ words. No cheating, or cliffhangers with a Happily Ever After! Suggested 18+
Jennifer Vester is a romance author whose ambition is to entertain readers with off-beat female characters and the over-the-top alpha men that love them.
Her books revolve around romantic suspense with a little something for every reader. Always an HEA....(but look out for those twists!) It's romance suspense after all.
The Lakefield series deals with some very serious subjects at times.
I don’t know what my deal is but I could not get into this one at all. It just didn’t capture me like the first book. Holden seemed like a completely different person in this book and unfortunately, I liked him better in the first book. I’m bummed.
I read all the books in the series, so let me start out by saying that I liked them all; each had a different feeling to it and at the same time, they were like romantic suspenseful stories, at least to me. This is the second book of the series :)
I loved the chemistry between Holden and Julia. I laughed at their banter and they were always battling with each other either by being snarky towards each other and to many people may seem like they don't belong together because they are like oil and water but sometimes opposites do attract and boy did they attract to one another ;)
These two who are friends with Aiden and Olivia, who are the couple for the first book of the series, Run, and we get to see them here too as well as Kate who will be the heroine for the third book, Break, and Holden's parents that were funny as hell; those two, jeez, they're definitely one of the highlights in reading this story :)
Of course, Holden and Julia have to go through a series of things before becoming a couple, especially Julia :( When they become a couple, their obstacles and the danger swirling around, they become stronger together than apart... just go read this one, you won't regret it, especially since there are great secondary characters that'll make your day :)
These two are both dominant in their relationship together so be prepared for battles that eventually end up steamy ;)
This is the second book in the Lakefield Series by Jennifer Vester, so go check out the next book, since I'm also dying to know more about Kate and Logan :)
Love me an alpha male and this series has them in spades!!. Lots of loving, protective, stubborn men. Holden and Julia meet in the first book of the series. Their story is a tear filled journey that tests both of them. But as they say...what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. This series is best read in order due to overlapping and reoccuring characters!! Love this series....on to book 3!!
Humor, hospital escapes, steamy scenes, bombs, stalkers and snarky dialogue make up the second book in the series, giving us Julia’s crazy ride to love.
Summary: It’s been a year since Julia White has been home to Lakeview. Not since her terrifying encounter with Liv’s psycho ex-boyfriend. But now Liv is happily marrying Aiden and she wants Julia to sing at the reception. If she didn’t love her like a sister, she wouldn’t have agreed because despite it having been a year, the incident still haunts her. Lakeview is also the the home of the one man she dreads seeing, but can’t wait to see at the same time. Holden Saunders is gorgeous. Tall, strong, protective and good at it, but he and Julia are opposites in a lot of ways. Julia’s a free spirit, crazy fun, and sometimes reckless. Holden is gruff, rude, bossy, and closed off. He’s also committed to getting what he wants, and will go to any lengths to get her (read: Julia). This includes physical dominance, blackmail, and teasing her with his rock hard body. Unfortunately, getting to know each other gets pushed to the background because Julia’s past year hasn’t been uneventful. Media, stalkers, and a betrayal close to home work against them. Julia has been hiding the last year of her life, and Holden is intent on making it so she doesn’t have to. He’ll make her beg if he has to. Most days, Julia doesn’t know whether to punch or kiss Holden, or both, but she does know she can trust him to keep her safe.
I was really happy to get Julia’s story after the incident in book one. I love the crazy best friend. I was sad to see that Julia wasn’t the same bubbly, free spirit she once was, after what happened. What she went through was terrifying and traumatic, but it wasn’t long before her humor, sarcasm, feistiness, love, loyalty, and strength shined through. Holden was gruff and serious. He was an alpha male who liked things the way he liked them, and took his job seriously. He was also sweet, supportive, and protective. As a couple, they were entertaining. Neither took any sh*t from the other, which resulted in some intense growly conversations and steamy encounters. I don’t know if I would call this instalove, as there was something between Julia and Holden in book one. I think seeing some interaction between them from then would have added a bit more depth to their relationship, though. Secondary characters were awesome in this book. Of course, we caught up with Liv and Aiden, but we were also introduced to Holden’s parents. Rose and Ray were hilarious. I wish we could have had more of them. I am also overwhelmed with the desire to get Logan and Kate’s story. Overall, this was an engaging read. The storyline fit the characters’ situations and flowed well. The dialogue was amazing, and the characters make it impossible not to find out what happens next. The added humor and drama only pulled me in more. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series. ♡
Julia did what she had to do to survive the events at the end of Run. She took off to California and limited her contact with her best friend Liv. Dealing with that and Aiden's head of security, Holden are going to be tough now that she is back in Lakefield for Liv and Aiden's wedding. Holden has been waiting to make his move and now he will never let Julia leave him again. Too bad her stalker might have something to say about that. Julia isn't sure that she can be in a relationship, especially with Holden since they get on each other's nerves. You don't fall in love with someone who makes you crazy, right?
My addiction to Jennifer Vester and her characters continues in Hide. Julia is very different from Liv but just as vulnerable. She has a lot to deal with and Holden is a little bit like a bull in a china shop. So it makes it all the sweeter when they finally get together. Ms Vester is a master at writing jealous/possessive heroes that are lovable and yet you want to smack upside the head frequently. I devoured Hide in one sitting. Now, I'm off to dive into Break, book three about Liv and Julia's friend Kate and Aiden's friend Logan!
I don’t know why I’ve never read this one before! I’ve read the first book in the series about 5 times now…but never continued the series 🤷♀️ I’m so glad I did now though (better late than never I guess), because I loved this one as well! We get another bulldozer, grumpy alpha H…I love the way the author makes these men so dominant, but so caring and sweet at the same time. *sigh* Julia was a great heroine. Strong, but vulnerable at the same time. I loved that we got to spend some time in the mountains and Holden’s parents were great. I don’t really get why the MCs had to ‘fake date’ at the beginning (which wasn’t ever fake to Holden), but I just went with the flow. We get some good suspense and scorching spice too. I really enjoyed myself with this one and will continue on to book 3!
Safety: - No OW - OM: h has multiple guys obsessed with her. Main villain wants her to himself. - No cheating - No separation / no third act break up. (MCs met in book 1 and this book starts one year later when they meet again).
Hysterical!! Yes there are some serious parts but these two are piss and vinegar but boy do they love each other. It isn't a new quickie insta love type of thing. This came about and then they separated and now Holden finally has the chance to snab the girl. Man there were some good times in this book where these two had me laughing out loud then I was holding my breathe from the intrigue. She pushes all of Holden's buttons and gets to see what is probably her future when she meets his parents. Loads of fun and intrigue and yes some suspense too. Ha and don't forget the siblings, friends, and of course the guys. And what would this group be without a pervert, Brock.
This author has a fun time with the guys and the women who love them. Although I must say the guys themselves are enough to have you gripping your stomach from laughing so hard. Can't wait for the rest of this standalone series. I am getting thru them one at a time and not in order.
***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*** OMG How have I not read anything by Jennifer Vester before! Wow! This book was amazing! I was on my way back home from a work conference in Washington, DC and I needed something to keep me occupied during the long train ride. Well this book sure kept me occupied! Julia... you learn about her horrible past and everything she has had to overcome it, but she is still facing and fighting her demons throughout this book. Holden helps ground her, but it takes her some time to admit it and give in. Holden... I love his bossy, don't give me shit attitude! He is perfect for Julia as she likes to abide by her own rules. Plus Holden has always loved Julia, but she has never known because of his temper when men flirt with her. He has always thought of Julia as his and no one else. If you have not read Hide by Jennifer Vester, I highly suggest you grab your copy now! AMAZING!
This one will grab you from the get go! It's the story of Julia & Holden, who meet (and smolder) in Liv & Aiden's story, Run. I was rooting for them to get together in Run, but the way it ended, I wasn't sure how that would happen!
Julia & Holden are snarky goodness - they snipe at each other, but not in a mean way. They both growl a lot, too. LOL (No, this is not a PNR.) I really love their banter, and the supporting characters. We're introduced to Holden's parents (they are a RIOT!!) and Kate, who will be the heroine of book 3, Break. There's lots of action & sexy times & even some sweet - yes, sweet - from the big brute. *grin*
The "climax" of the action part was a bit ... contrived (there are like FIFTEEN guards & THAT happens? How does that make sense??), but I still loved how it worked out. Julia & Holden both get to wear the capes in this relationship. ; )
Jennifer this story is raw, gritty, sexy, and full of intense drama and passion. I think Holden does have nine lives. He has this piercing gaze with that sexy growl that makes you want him. He only has eyes for Julia and will do anything to make her his own. I want to hide so he will come find me. Or maybe I don’t I just want him to boss me around and hold me in his arms forever. Julia lights a fire in him that rocks him to his core. When her life is in danger the beast comes alive in Holden. But who is really saving who? Don’t hide from this book or you will be missing out. Jennifer writes fantastic stories about over bearing alphas that you will fall in love with over and over again and Holden is no exception.
Second in the series this is the story of Julia and Holden. Julia is the wild, crazy friend of Liv but an attack by Liv's ex-boyfriend has left her feeling cautious and a subdued version of her former self. Back in town for her friends wedding she crosses paths with Holden the crush that treated poorly. Holden always interested in Julie yet skeptical she has really changed has decided he's ready to take a chance and pursue a relationship. But just has they begin a crazy stalker surfaces and threatens Julia forcing Holden to protect her once again. A crazy action packed love story with two incredibly wild and lovable characters. If you love crazy girls, true friends and alpha males this book is must read. A truly great read. I can't wait to read the next book.
I was excited to read Julia and Holden's story, after meeting them in book one, Run. I actually liked this story better than the first one, mostly because I liked the characters more. I did have issues with Holden being so overbearing at times, after all that Julia went through in Run. I also don't care for the cover, since it was stated in the book that both characters were scarred, Holden was tattooed, and Julia had dark hair. Other than that, I really enjoyed this story. I laughed out loud when Julia was hanging out with Holden's dad, and I loved that she gave Holden enough attitude that he couldn't remain an ice man toward her. They were so good together. I am enjoying this series, and I'm sure the next one will be great, too.
This series just keeps getting better and better. We meet Holden and Julia in Run. They are both drawn to each other, but refuse to give on to their lust/love until their own story. The way they interact with each other is great. They keep each other on their toes and DO NOT take sh#t from each other. Julia is still recovering from her incident from the 1st book. There is some issues with her sister which at 1 point I wanted to b#$ch slap for a little bit. Holden's protectiveness is over the top, because he is going to make sure nobody harms his Angel. This series a must read if you enjoy hot alphas and the witty women who keep said alphas on their toes!
Hide is the second book in the Lakefield series by Jennifer Vester. I’m falling in love with this series. Hide is intense, full of passion and has some humor. Of course Holden is an hot alpha male ( which is fine with me). We meet Julia and Holden in Run and in Hide they are dealing with their own drama. The back and forth between the two is entertaining. Hide takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and events. I love the detail and passion Jennifer Vester pours in her books. I highly suggest you treat yourself and read Hide. Start with book #1 Run to get the total book experience. Jennifer has done it again. I received this ARC voluntarily.
This is the story of Julia and Holden. We first met them in Run in the Lakefield series. It has been a year since Julia has been back. Her friend Olivia is getting married and asked her to sing at the wedding. She didn't want to but she couldn't say no. She get there and has a panic attack. Holden there to help her. He blackmail her into being his date and acting like they are going out. These to banter back and forth throughout the book. They crack you up. I was constantly chuckling. These to out and about are hard to miss. They are always going off in each other. Couldn't put it down. Loved it
We first met Julia and Holden in the first book of this series (this is the second). From the first meet you know that these two belong together. Julia is strong, sarcastic, and blunt. Holden is very dominant but also has a sweet side.
The story got a bit wordy for me in some parts but overall the plot was great. These two are brought together by a wedding but things can never just go as planned. Throw in a dangerous stalker, a dad with a barn full of artillery, some naughty bits, and love... And you have a very interesting book. I will definitely continue to read this series!
This story is told from Julia's POV and is set a year after the events of book 1. This book follows the romance story of Julia and holden.
I loved the story for these two, it was a little over dramatic and Julia just doesn't seem to get a break from the craziness .. Julia is still untamed and wild and fun to read about, holden is super sexy and even Though he is a bit too serious sometimes it's counteracted well by his sexy fun side I really liked the added aspect of holdens parents who were really good characters.
I'm really enjoying making my way through this series but I wish I got a joint POV
After reading the first book I couldn't help but falling in love with all these amazing characters. why ? because the women are fearless and the men are just amazing. book two brings us the story of Holden and Julia who we met in book one and who finally got their own story. I was could not put the book down. There is something about Jennifer Vester's writing that just sucks you in and you have to finish reading it right away. From book one we learned how attracted to each other Julia and Holden were, so take a chance on this book and see why they are worth reading.
holden was definitely different than what I perceived of him in the first book with his boss aiden and Olivia. there were some things in the book I felt were excessive and rambling but just like the first book, it had a great plot and I loved the story. my heart totally goes for Julia. the trauma she went through, her panic attacks, and the lowdowns of fame. Holden was absolutely great when caring for her and his parents were such a great characters. a little rough around the edges but a gem nonetheless with this author. brock! cant wait for his story!
Another Epic Story!!! Hide is Book # 2 in the Lakefield Book Series. After meeting Holden and Julia in the 1st book in the series, and after all that transpired I was anxious to get started on this one.
This book does not disappoint!! The author did a wonderful job of giving me a SUPER SEXY, PAGE TURNING, read!!! Don't you just love when you find a new series, a new to you author, and the book is everything you wanted and more??? I know I do!!!
Had to make this review short and sweet because I'm in a hurry to start Break (Lakefield Book 3)!!!
WOW!!! JUST WOW!!! Jennifer Vester is a First time AUTHOR for me and She Had Me at the Very First chapter ALONE!! Throw in some blackmail, male dominance, hospital escapes, humor, bombshell Booms!, Mountains, Stalkers & Steamy off the Charts Chemistry between the two main characters- Julia & Holden. Julia White has been brought back Home to Lakeview for her best friend's wedding but haunting memories flood back in mind from her past a year ago. Holden Saunders is totally Alpha Male and is committed to getting what He wants. Their banter is Hilarious and their friendship grows throughout the journey of escaping Julia's so called Stalkers. Holden finally met his match with Julia but like they say "Opposite Attract" and they totally do. This is the Second Book in the Lakefield and can be read as a Standalone. This Book has All the Feels you can ask for in a book plus the Suspenseful action that took place between the characters themselves. Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down!! It was Nonstop Action from the Very beginning and Wondered WHERE you were to Ventured next! THIS IS A MUST READ BOOK AND CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE FROM JENNIFER VESTER!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review....... Book 2, Holden and Julia’s story has surpassed my expectations!!!! Meeting Holden and Julia in book 1 and reading how they reacted to each other, you knew sparks were going to fly. And fly they did! These two maybe oil and water, but when they mix....fireworks. These 2 are compelling characters, the dialogue is witty, and again the chemistry is unreal. A page turner from start to finish, I cannot wait to read book 3. I cannot believe a haven’t found Jennifer Vester sooner.
Oh my! I knew I liked Holden for a reason! He is relentless on keeping Julia as his whether she wants him or not. The catch is she wants him just as much but she is fighting her head. Julia has been scared of almost everything since she was attacked at the end of Run. Since then she has been hiding from familiar places and things and having panic attacks. This trip home Holden has decided she is staying and sorting everything out including him! I loved this journey and can not wait for the next book!
I love this series. I read the first book and broke away to read a few other books. Then came back to this one. I felt by breaking away to read something more that I may of missed something. If you can I recommend reading them in order and back to back if possible, if you can't not a big deal. I thought I loved Aiden from the first book, Run. I fell in love with Holden and Julia. I would take Julia's place any day. Holden is a possessive, hot, sexy alpha who could protect me any day. This book was a page turner and hard to put down. I intend to read the next book in this series, Break.
I enjoyed reading this book. Run and Hide have the same guy friends. Who were all in the marines. Each book centers around one couple. Each book can be read alone or all together. If read all together then you will see the same characters. Hide is based on Julia who is a musician, who happened to leave town after being attacked and kidnapped by her best friend Liv's ex. Then you have the take no crap Holden. This book has plenty of twist and turns.
After having read Run, I was expecting another great read and Hide, really is that!!! OMG! We have Holden, who is as controlled and controlling of everything, and I do mean everything, in his life and his work, come face to face with Julia, who will not bow down to his wishes. The things he does to try and make her conform are hilarious! It's a constant battle trying to outwit him and do her own thing! Hilariously hot read!
Oh, my goodness. Holden. While I was expecting his and Julia's story to be great, I wasn't expecting the humor between the two of them or how much I enjoyed his family. This book was just as good as the first in the series, if not better, because the author has really figured out how she wants the "voice" of the characters to come across. If you're looking for frustration, humor, worry, and love all in one bundle, look no further!
This is book two in The Lakefield Series and it does not disappoint!! Holden is the total alpha male, personally and professionally. Julia takes no crap from him and keeps him on his toes. Their back and forth banter is not to be missed. In this book, you get love, amazing dialogue, twists and turns and laugh out loud moments. Can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series. I received an arc for an honest review
