“Magic could be your saviour, or your destruction. The choice is yours.”
Being knocked down by a stranger after stealing a dress was not how most discovered they were a Witch, but it was how Jaycen Reece found out. Now she was moving across the country to attend a school for others like her, leaving her mother alone to chase a man that was never coming back. And when a student at Jaycen’s new school ends up murdered, followed quickly by another, Jaycen soon finds herself in a world where different rules apply, and where the blood running through your veins really is everything.
Magic could save or destroy alright, but which path she takes is now up to her.
I'm not sure if Sophia has written anything else before, but if not this story was a very good start. The story line was very different from a lot of paranormal romances that I've been reading lately. It always kept my interest and flowed beautifully. The heroine was very spunky and straightforward. The type to save herself instead of waiting on a guy or adult to save her. I'd definitely recommend this book for those looking for something a little different than the usual storyline.
This book is a bit like a mixture of The Mortal Instruments and Vampire Academy (though there are no vampires), so if you enjoyed those series, you may like this one.
Jaycen is a reckless teen who makes a lot of mistakes and has her flaws, which makes her feel real. At times she can come off as a bit immature, but I feel like that's the author giving her room to grow. The other characters didn't come across quite as strongly, except for José, who turned out to be my favorite character. For me, the start was a little slow, but I liked what it built up to. The ending had several surprise twists that are hinted at (between some really great red herrings) that were well executed.
The only reason I've given this book four stars instead of five is that it does have typos and could use an editor to read it over a couple of times and weed them out. Unless grammar issues really bother you, they're pretty easy to overlook, especially once the narrative picks up.
Im late to the party HOWEVER I read this book on the advise of my friend who has read all the books by this author and she has advised me their is another on the way so I thought I had get in there and catch up!! I actually read this book within the day.
Have to say this was an okay read, I personally would not go out of my way to tell someone to read this but read it if you have time to kill. I think the romance-relationship in this book was kinda here nor there and could have done with some development. I liked the main character, Jaycen however at times she did get on my nerves.
All in all it’s an okay read their isn’t anything special about it and it’s just a standard run of the mill fantasy book - nothing that makes it stand out and if I am being completely honest I feel that sections of it have ripped off other books or the story lines feel very very familiar and I think the author may be heavily influenced by other reads. A much better editor is also needed because some parts were a bit messy.
Although I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought I am going to give the next a chance and hope for the next book to be a slightly better read.
This was a great read. To show the story continuing with Benedict was genius. I cant wait for the next book. The characters are so wonderfully written. You definately wont be disappointed.
Very different storyline to what I was expecting. Different take on magic, can't wait to read the sequel. Jaycen is a strong female lead character and I like her personality.
The book was good. It had an interesting plot enough so that I read it in one day. Some of the tropes in the book are a little played out, but overall I did enjoy reading this book.
Pleasantly surprised with this book. It was a quick, fun read. I enjoyed the characters and storyline. Was hoping to head on to the second book, but don’t see one yet. Fingers are crossed for a sequel!
I absolutely loved this book, after reading the first chapter I was enthralled and couldn’t put the book down. I felt every emotion, and the twist towards the end totally threw me. Well written Sophie, please don’t make me wait too long for the next one
I really enjoyed the Violet Blood book one. Good strong characters, well written plot, and all done without the f word. Thank you for that. You do need a proof reader for there were some oopses. I look forward to the next chapter. Keep writing!
Great start to a new series. Jaycen is a quirky character, that I like, while Thornton is the serious one with responsibilities. For Jaycen to find out who she is, she needs all the help she can get from her new friends she makes on the way.
Strong lead character cannot wait to read the second book to see all of the characters develop so many possibilities for other characters getting there own book
