Battles of the Broken

Souls are interesting things.
Not something you can prove you possess. Not something that can be measured, like a heartbeat.
But something that can be destroyed by the absence of a heartbeat.
No, you cannot prove you possess a soul.
But once that soul dies, there doesn't need to be proof that you don't have one.
Once that blackened pit opens inside you, the world can see it. The world cowers from it.
Gage knew this because his soul was long gone.
He was glad to be rid of it.
He was filled with depraved satisfaction that he could make the world cower from him.
That he could burn the world to the ground and he didn't have anything—like a soul or a conscience—to stop him.
Until her.
The woman who proved to him that she had a soul.
That he might have something left of his.
The woman who tricked the world, blinded it to the truth. Hid expertly what was broken and ruined inside her.
Though he was about to prove that there was nothing more broken than him. No one more broken.
He'd prove that by destroying them both.

I would give this book 6 stars if I could!! Everyone knows I adore this author and her words but this story has taken my fangirl status to a whole other level.

It's her bravest story to date. She didn't follow the usual MC formula, instead she gave us a story that's character and emotions driven and just so fucking raw. It's a slowburn story that never felt slow. It's jam packed with enough feelings to make your heart beat out of your chest and enough darkness to make you cry for their pain.

“Take it from someone who knows, only thing worse than showing your pain to the world is hiding it.”

There were times I had to put it down and take a breath. I have read it 3 times & I still had to do that. The lives these characters have lived & the love story they share is gut wrenching. It's far from pretty - I cried, a lot, in this one.

Added to these gut wrenching feelings is her usual wit, humour & female friendships that everyone strives for in life. So if you're looking for a love story about two broken souls then this is for you.

Whilst I do love a good romance, and read exclusively romance, I actually in real life have all the emotional depth of a puddle.

However, I finished this book crying actual emotional tears!! What the feckity feck!!!??

Don't worry, I went and called my husband a dickhead and forgot it was our wedding anniversary so I all soon went back to normal.

I have wanted Gage's book for ages and it did not disappoint.

Also, loved Lucky and his reactions to Gage having a love interest.

It was emotional and hard to read. But it was worth it.

Gage and Lauren both had tragic pasts that shaped who they were now, both having reacted in different ways to the tragedy of their past. But they were perfect for each other.

And I liked how we got the relationship stuff pretty much settled before any outside "drama". As secondary characters were saying, it is not a relationship unless their has been car bombings, or kidnapping attempts etc.

All in a brilliant read.

HOLY HELL THIS BOOK...

Gage's story was absolutely amazing!!!!

HOLY MOTHER OF EVERYTHING!!!!  I have been waiting for this book since we met Gage in Beyond the Horizon and the wait was ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!!!

The rollercoaster of emotions was everything I was hoping it would be and so much more.  There was suspense, humor, sadness, the sass that we've come to expect with this beautiful authors stories and off the charts steam!

The characters are wonderful.  They balance each other so well.  I really enjoyed watching them change and grow throughout the story.  It was also wonderful seeing how the rest of the SoT family was doing!

You never know how much you miss home until you've been away from it for so long... It was good to go back.

I absolutely, HIGHLY, recommend this amazing story....

This book is a big book in many ways, it’s longer which I will touch on later, it’s a big book because it’s about Gage and we have seen some crazy things with him and this book is a big book because it is one of the best books Anne Malcom has every written and that’s saying something when we are talking about this author. I love this author, her books are some of the very best books I have ever read and the more books I have read from her the more I have fallen in love with her and her stories. Now back to this book being long, I couldn’t have been more happy this book is on the longer side, I couldn’t get enough and I didn’t want this book to end or to put it down does this story drag, no, does this story have unnecessary filler, no its all amazing.

Walking down a dark road late at night injured Lauren meets Gage. Though Gage would normally drive on by the moment he sees Lauren Gage turns around to help. Lauren has made her life safe and she has done everything she can to make her life exactly how she wants it and plans it. Getting on the mans bike is the exact opposite of anything safe or anything Lauren would ever do but she finds herself on the back of this gorgeous mans bike being dropped off at the hospital.

Neither can forget the other Gage and Lauren didn’t plan for the other to come into their life but now that they have neither can forget the other, and though both are very different the other calls to them like nothing or no one before. Now neither Gage nor Lauren wants to let go of the other even if they don’t make sense and if the other quickly has to power to destroy them and for Lauren Gage is everything she has avoided.

The more time they spend together the more they see that they aren’t so much different as they originally thought and though one wears his scars on the outside and the other on the inside both are badly damaged from the pains of this world. Finding something they haven’t had in each together Lauren and Gage fall in love, an epic kind of love but with all that life has delt them their relationship isn’t easy but it’s beautiful and the saving grace they both need.

Lauren gains a new family when she meets Gage in the form of his MC and they keep warning her that no Sons of Templer courtship can be easy but no one could have guessed what is in store for Gage and Lauren. If the world isn’t set to destroy them their inner demons and past wants a chance to break them and tear them apart. Fighting for each other and their relationship is the toughest fight either of them has ever battled but it’s also the one of that counts the most.

I loved this book it’s filled with so much pain from both Gage and Lauren but it’s also filled with so much beauty. Lauren seems like this put together perfect girl but on the inside she has so much grief and is broken, while Gage wears his scars as armor to protect him, and when the two of them get together there are no words for their romance and what they find in each other. This book is breathtaking and one of those books you can’t seem to find the words for. The rollercoaster these two characters are on ends with a love story that can stand the test of time that will leave you up at night thinking about this book and one that you will want to turn to again and again. As well as compare others to.

This book is something so special, you can tell Anne Malcom put her all into this book reading you can feel the emotions jumping off the pages gripping you and not letting go. It’s one of those books you do everything you can to not put down and if you must you do everything in your powers to pick it up again as soon as possible. Even weeks later I still think about this book and want to read it all over again and thinking about this book I still get choked up.

I know we say it as a kind of throw away at times but I mean this. This is a must read. You won’t regret this book, I honesty don’t see how anyone could. It’s gritty and painful but I think because of that it’s beautiful and powerful, with two characters who are meant to be together and who so deserve each other and the love and joy only the other can give to them. Reading this book you just know Lauren and Gage’s life would be missing an essential part without the other. Simply put they were meant for each other.

This book was bittersweet to read..it being the last book in the series had me wanting to read slower and make it last. But the thing about Anne Malcom's books is that they consume you in such a way that there is no possible way to slow down...and now that I'm finished(minus my fragile emotional state); I can honestly say The Sons of Templar Series will forever be one of my absolute favorites...

Battles of the Broken was gritty, raw & real. The amount of emotional depth and the layers to both Gage and Lauren made this emotional roller coaster ride so worth it. Both L & G were broken by life in different ways; what they saw and felt for one another was immediate and their connection was intense. They saw each others demons, recognized their individual darkness but instead of running away from each other they ran towards each other; they fought for each other. This book will rip your heart out, stomp on it a bit and then put you back together piece by beautiful piece. I loved this book and I love this series so hard; do yourself a favor and stop reading this review and start reading Battles of the Broken...I promise you won't be disappointed💋

Ann Malcom is an author whose work regularly comes up in my feed so it's naturally that I decided to read one of her book .

Battle of the Broken,  Sons of Templar MC series #6, follows the story of Gage and Lauren. Gage is tortured, dangerous, chaotic, quite the opposite of Lauren's very organized and healthy life. But under their appearances lie demons and brokenness, and these two might have in common a lot more than expected.

In Battle of the Broken, I discovered a very agreeable writing style. Detailed and with an enjoyable pace, it   intrigued me. Connecting with both Lauren and Gage was easy thanks to a very thorough and well executed characterization. Tragedy and guilt broke them but they nontheless complete each other.

"Show her a little danger. She’ll show you a little safety.”

The tone was sometimes light and often dark, with scenes that literally made me burst out laughing , thanks to Lauren's feistiness and her exceptional Grandma but also the ladies of the MC. These scenes bring a much needed light that balanced chilling and or heartbreaking moments.

From sizzling sexual tension to action, from violence to emotion, this is most definitely a complete story.

“Take it from someone who knows. The only thing worse than showing your pain to the world is hiding it.”

Enjoy, ladies!

I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!

You know when you read a book and you already 'know' one of the characters and you think you know how it's going to go down?

You know when you read a book and you get to a certain point and you know this bugger is going to rip your heart out?

You know when you read a book and the leading lady is just so god damn fab that you love her from the get go?

You know when you read a book and it's in one sitting because you can't put it down?

This book. This book is all of those. My God it was utterly, breathtakingly fabulous!

Gage and Lauren were everything....
'I really need to stop thinking everything is impossible. Because there’s no impossible with you.'

And Gage loves Lord of the Rings so he is certainly ok in my book!

I am so sad this is the last book. But in true Anne fashion, she sent the series off with a bang. This series was amazing and this last book was absolute perfection. Battles of the Broken was a VERY appropriate title. Gage and Lauren broke my heart but at the same time were so destined to be together. I also had to laugh at Amy being a new mom, it was hysterical, as was Lucky's banter throughout the novel. This series will always be on my top ten. Gage's book did not disappoint. He was so broken and remained that way until Lauren. What they both endured to get to the other side was enough to break anyone but they pulled through, together. I can understand why this book was difficult to write. The emotion in this book was up there with Luck and Bex's book.

Bravo Anne great way to end a series. This book was amazing.

***ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review***

This is the first time I m reading Anne Malcom's book and although I found her writing style accessable and engaging I found myself struggling with the storyline.

Nothing new there, the story of two deeply broken and shattered souls, each in its own pain, one is holding on to the 'logic' side of the surroundings to function, and the other is a rampage of dark chaos and gore.

One is Lauren, the other is Gage, a mean ass biker...and their unlikey encounter will set off a collision of darkness sipping through the pores of their fissured armors...and they will face it all together in a raw and gritty love...

I loved the gritty and raw parts, even though I got annoyed with Gage's instant caveman alpha shit, but the heroine got wet cause of it, so at least one of us enjoyed the show in full *wink wink*

Like I ve said, the writing style was good, but the predictable plot didnt excite me and since the raw and gritty can't work for me alone...I ended up not fully satisfied but still intrigued to follow up on previous and future works of this author.

*This is Book 6 of a series. Yeah, you can read it alone and thoroughly enjoy. But I BEG you- start from the beginning. Totally worth it.

Gage & Lauren’s story was both the hardest and the easiest to read of the series. The gruesome details of Gage’s darkness is soooo much. And Lauren has her own demons. But their story together is absolutely compelling to read.

There are times I threatened to kill Anne, kick her arse, took it back and declared her safe, only to do it all again. More than once.

It’s just that much.

3 CROWNS

This is going to be it’s me not the book type of review. Maybe it was because I jumped in at book 6, but for someone reason I just didn’t connect with this book.

I did like the antihero and the heroine. I enjoyed them as a couple. Ultimately, though, it took me too long to care and invest in them. This is where I think not reading the series hurt. The antihero has appeared in other books, and readers of the series would have had an attachment to him and would have known background information. The chemistry between these two seemed to follow the same pattern. I eventually loved them as a couple, but it felt too long before I felt how much they cared and it ties to the danger of the plot.

Like the characters, it took me until almost 50% to get into this book, and surprisingly, the wait for these two to consummate their relationship took forever, and I felt like I didn’t get the darkness I was promised through the characterizations of Gage. The story does pick up, and once I hit about 60%, I became really invested.

I truly believe this is a me not you type of situation, as this is my first book in the series and it is book 6. Based on the writing, though, I would definitely give this author another try.

I was lucky to receive and arc for Battles Of The Broken by Anne Malcom and I loved it. I was excited to see who would break through Gage, and Lauren was perfect for him, and he was perfect for her. They both were battling demons as we all do and believing that they were broken beyond repair and fearing to let anyone close enough to shine a light into their darkness. But they did because as Lauren told Gage "You may have pain and darkness in your heart but you've got sunlight in your bones" We all have demons and battles some of them more bigger and destructive than others and I like how in this story is shown how we sometimes let them own us no matter the size of them because that's so true. 🖤

This quote to me fits perfectly with Gage and Lauren story.

There was so much pain, tears, hurt, anger, and love. But, I’m not talking about a happy love. That’s just not possible for a couple like Gage and Lauren.
This is a love you want to hate. Not because it’s a love that shouldn’t have happened, but a love that had to be fiercely battled. I was angry that a love like that had to endure so, so much.
Two extremely broken people, like Gage and Lauren, deserved something easy after everything in their pasts. But, then this wouldn’t be the amazing book it is, had that happened.

Anne Malcom’s writing is beyond raw, powerful, and poetic. She took me to places I didn’t think I wanted to go. So much pain... so much sadness. But, that’s what made it so brokenly perfect, so addictive.

What a crazy ride Gage took us on. In the battles of the Broken, who truly wins and who truly loses, when you’re less than half a person or even one at that to start?
A five star read, beyond that, really.
Your heart will break, your heart will mend, but ultimately, it will remain broken again. But, that’s alright. Broken people can love, too. It’s a shattered love, but a beautiful love nonetheless.

A fantastic read with an author that always pulls at all your emotional strings.

What a beautiful addition to the Sons of Templar Series. Gabe and Lauren’s story is told in a revealing, slow build kind of way. Let me clarify though this does not mean boring by any means. It is filled with angst and darkness. Even without knowing all the details, you feel the characters pain and want greater understanding. If you are looking for steamy, you won’t be disappointed because it is definitely intertwined with the right amount of sexy (wink wink). Love how this story is sprinkled with characters from the other books. You don’t have to read the others but how sad if you don’t because they are AMAZING! The bonus in this read is its message and its poetic feel. For full disclosure, I might admit to highlighting the heck out of this book and all the words of wisdom it gave. Call me impressed by not only being entertained but touch by the insight. I recommend that you add this book to your must read selection. Happy Reading!

4.5 stars!

I received an ARC of this book from the author and I voluntarily reviewed it. Thank you Anne Malcom!

What a book, what a ride... My emotions are still attempting to recover after nearly 24 hours since I’ve finished the book. Oh man, the roller coaster of emotions this will put you through.

Anne Malcom has the gift of being able to insert subtleties into her books. Subtle emotional triggers, those little pangs to the chest, some subtle references you will only get if you look closely, the little details of every day life. She takes her time to not only describe it to us, but make us experience it. She teleports us to her world and holds us captive.

But Malcom can also pack a punch. She sometimes foreshadows them too much, but they definitely do not lack impact. Even when you know what’s coming, you can’t help your heart nearly jumping out of your chest.

Gage and Lauren are different. They are not your flowers and hearts, fairy-tale-like story. They are raw and real. They are flawed, they fight for what they have, and live in the ephemeral. This story brings forth the dilemma we humans face; live safe and comfortable in our bubble we constructed, or, step out and be daring. Follow our hearts rather than our brain. It’s about taking our walls, our facades, down, even of it’s one brick at a time, to let the light into our lives, and accept and acknowledge who we truly are.

I think the literary devices could have been pushed more, but Anne Malcom truly is a goddess with words. There is no denying it.

What a powerful start to this book...just a glimpse into the incredible world that is Lauren and Gage.

Lauren, who has mysteries of her own, crashes her car and is found by Gage as she is walking on the highway to the hospital. Gage. Does. Not. Do. Damsels. In. Distress...he ruined them! Although there is an immediate attraction, they clash as well. This is their story....

This author truly knows how to use words to cast spells over her readers, I’m positive! Once you start reading, even when you know you have to do the adult thing and put the book down, it is so hard! The fantastic character and setting descriptions just suck you right in and you feel like you are there in the story, you know the people and can easily visualise each scene.

Humour is threaded throughout that enhances the story, for example Lauren’s grandmother who is a pip! Here she is talking about Lauren’s grandfather-“...I would’ve ditched him the second I realized he had as much personality as a two-bit vibrator.”- 😂 Likewise there are plenty of heartbreaking moments when you feel those deeply too; that kick in the stomach, heaviness on your chest and gulp in your throat, another sign of a clever writer excelling at making the reader a part of the story.

From the very beginning to the very end of this story you are taken on an epic journey, hang on and enjoy the ride, I did!

Five Stars Definitely!

How can I describe this book without giving away any spoilers?
Well I can say this and that is I thought this book was heartbreaking beautiful!
I was sad when I got to the end of this story because I didn’t want it to end!
You know I don’t know how Anne Malcom is able to create such amazing stories that just rip you apart but yet turn around and make you whole.
Every single book that I’ve read of hers has done that in some way or another.
So yes I freaking do recommend this book because I think everyone should read it because it’s brutal yet so amazingly beautiful!

Wow I’m sitting here after reading Gage’s story with my mouth open. Gage is one cold, crazy man that has no feelings whatsoever from his past. Gage meets Lauren one day walking down a road covered in blood like it’s no big deal. Two people battling with demons daily Gage has the scars and anger, Lauren has the scars in the inside and knows so many facts it will make you laugh and blow your mind all at once.
Oh I couldn’t stop reading this book it’s dark and intense and I loved every single minute of it. I’m so sad to have our men of the Sons of Templar come to a close but damn did it go out in a bang! This series is definitely one I’ll never forget and I have to say I fell hard for Gage! 5/5 stars

OMG. I am actually in awe of how good this book is. You need to pencil time out to read this because you will not want to be interrupted. This book made me cry as well as laugh. There was such emotion and I really wanted Gage and Lauren to get their own version of happy ever after. It really proves that people can appear fine but are broken. Love is really not pretty but is broken and twisted bit still love all the same. I loved seeing the real Lauren be uncovered and boy was she a hard arse. And when Gage loves _ he loves hard! I think I need to go back to the start and reread all of the series again. You need these people in your life!

We've known Gage from the start and just from wat we've knon i knew this was going to be hard and dark..and holy hell was it! It takes a special kind of woman and love to make these men fall but Gage needed that and more like Bex and Lucky and did he find that woman on the road in the night after a crash and can they even try to have a relationship with both their pasts and how different they handled the darkness? Hands down one of my favorite books ever and will stick with you! It has all and more and just when you think its all settled bamn a huge bunch of twists and turns that will break your heart! Can they find their hea read and find out!

Beautiful love story for two characters with tragic pasts.

Gage and Lauren are two broken souls riding an angst-filled rollercoaster together. Both have suffered tragedies and darkness, but choose to deal with it in opposite ways. For Gage, it's all about the violence and bloodshed. Chaos. For Lauren, it's structure and order. When these two collide it's a supernova and a black hole all at once.

It's insta-lust and an insta-claiming (you know how these alpha bikers roll!) Gage makes his intentions clear, and Lauren doesn't put up too much of a fight (and I don't blame her.)

For all its heartache and grief, this story is filled with hope and reminders that second chances are possible.

As Lauren's grandmother, Anna, says, "'Heartbreak isn't rare. Or special. It's wretchedly common, actually. I would hazard a guess that there're more broken humans wandering around this world with their shattered dreams encased in a blackened heart.'"

Battles of the Broken is intense, emotional.....but extremely powerful. It really goes to show you that one person can change your life, in ways you never expected. Once they have made an imprint on your soul, they will be with you forever. Gage and Lauren were it for one another. They saw past the scars, and loved one another for who they were on the inside. Both had lived rough lives, but they helped each other heal and move on from the hurt and anger of the past.

OMG! I cannot tell you how amazing this book is. Gage has always been an enigma from the first time we meet him. He alpha to the core but doesn't think he can be good for anyone.

Lauren is logical and precise. What happens these two met...absolute madness but in the best possible way.

Sons of Templar is one of my favorite MC series. Gage and Lauren don't have an easy road to love...it wouldn't be an Anne Malcolm story if they just met and fell in love and rode off into the sunset. I wouldn't have it any other way. And while we are watching Gage meet his match, we get to see some of our favorite characters---

This book makes me want to add a tag of "From the fertile mind of Anne Malcom" Pick this one up today.

Okay, okay, I said this after every book in this series, but this one is the BEST! Gage is everything!! Everything dark and depraved and perfect. I loved everything about Battles of the Broken. I have loved this whole series, but this one is different from all the other books in this series, and that’s what got me. It sucked me right in and wrapped me in darkness and I never wanted to leave it. Highly recommend this book and series! You’ll definitely want to start at the beginning and never look back!!

This book is everything!!!! I was ripped in two, put back together and ripped in two again. I didn't think Anne could top any of the other books in this series, but OMG! Gage, Gage is everything! A man so broken, demons so horrible. I hate to see this series end, but this was the greatest ending we could have gotten. It definitely ended in the best way possible. 5 stars is not enough!!
