Critically acclaimed bestselling author, Matt Shaw - #1 bestseller in Horror Fiction with hundreds of 5 star reviews.
There's something in the shadows which lurks there unseen except on the odd occasion when we think we see them in the corner of our eye. We turn to look but there is nothing there. At least that's what we think. But they're always there and they're always watching and waiting and shaping our dreams into the nightmares based upon our weirdest phobias... Their goal is simple; to scare us to death so that our souls burst from within leaving nothing but an empty space for them to fill.
When we wake in the morning, we are no longer the same person. We are gone, trapped in the shadows...
PRAISE FOR THE AUTHOR
“There is a ferocity about Matt Shaw's writing that is both welcome and also necessary when it comes to horror.” - Shaun Hutson, author of "Slugs"
MATT SHAW was born, quite by accident (his mother tripped, he shot out) September 30th 1980 in Winchester hospital where he was immediately placed on the baby ward and EBay. Some twelve years later (wandering the corridors of the hospital and playing with road kill when he was on day release), the listing closed and he remained unsold, he was booted out of the hospital to start his life as a writer and hobbit – beginning with writing screenplays and short stories for his own amusement before finally getting published when he was twenty-seven years and forty-five seconds old.
Once Published weekly in a lad's magazine with his photography work, Matt Shaw is also a published author and cartoonist. Has to be said, can be a bit of a flirt and definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, somewhat of a klutz.
Favourite books "Roald Dahl's Collection of Short Stories" Tim Burton's Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy Anything, really, written by himself. Because he is that good.
I don’t have a ton of thoughts on this one. Shaw is really hit or miss. A chunk of his books feel very rushed, despite having really intriguing premises. This had a ton of promise, but desperately needed more editing on both a copy and developmental level. Nothing was done badly, but everything just felt very uninteresting and forced. And the ending just came across as like a ‘what’s a quick way to wrap this up’ sort of affair. Very underwhelming, to say the least. Not Shaw’s best, so taper expectations going in.
um....i think the reason i am giving this such a low rating is because of the typos i found in it...the repetition of sentences literally one after the other. and also...WHAT? lol i feel as though this story would have been a much better movie than it is a book. this will not deter me from reading more Matt Shaw, though.
Well another great book from Mr Shaw. Strange, freaky and shocking. Makes you think about those spa retreats 😁 A good read with a different and unusual storyline that keeps it exciting. Never knowing which way it's going to go or what shocking ending is going to come. Always a pleasure to read his books and this is no exception.
Read in one sitting, it's been a while since I managed such accomplishment. 🤓
Matt Shaw has been on my radar for a while, as the kind of horror writer I would enjoy. I bought a few of his novellas, and picked up "The Weird" at random tonight, only to read it in one sitting. So I guess you can say it was good !
It was fast-paced, going straight into action in the very first page. I enjoyed it, and the story was told in a way that makes you want to keep turning the pages. But for a novella to blow me away, I need a bit more though. Also, quite a few typos and words missing, which is always a shame when reading a book.
Still, will read more from him, I think he's got a great voice in the horror genre, it was quite original.
I’d give this book a 1.5-low 2 on a good day. Was it terrible? Repeat sentences and misspellings aside, no. However if you’ve ever seen The Faculty (1998 movie) you’ve essentially seen the same trope, different entities.
