Ancient Gauls drew up contracts, recorded the headage of their cattle and the production of their workshops, but not the dreams that filled their nights or the legends of the gods who modeled their lives. When the voices of their bards went silent, halting a long tradition of oral literature, all the poetry and mythic narratives of Gaul disappeared with them, leaving in the memory of the Western civilization an immeasurable gap. The texts in this volume are not representative of the lost literature of Gaul but are a faint echo of what it could have been, a tribute to its extinct beauty and, in a sense, a lament for what we probably will never know. They are presented in two the first, Senobrixta ("Old Spell"), is a variety of the old Gallic language still quite close to Proto-Celtic, while the other, Galáthach hAthevíu ("Revived or Modern Gaulish"), is the form in which the language is currently being revived as a practically useable modern day language, using sound and grammar changes that can be found in the last attested stages of the language.
