Jason Burke is a broken man. The loss of his friend and crewmate on an ill-fated mission to a Pillar World has left him in a downward spiral of rage and self-destruction.
But what if Lucky hadn’t actually died on that planet?
While Omega Force tries to pull itself together for the sake of their friend they also learn that a ruthless new faction has seized control of the ConFed Council and now threatens the stability of the entire quadrant. To make matters worse, the rise of this new regime might be their fault.
Jason’s loyalties are pulled in all directions as he tries to not only help his friend but also correct a horrible mistake from his past. Will his refusal to sacrifice either mission cause him to fail at both?
There are few books I’ll stay up and read cover to cover like a starving man - and a book about Omega Force is one of them. As always, Jason is in up to his eyeballs, his friends and crew are at each other’s throat with some displaying new skills and focus.
And Lucky lives... although it was questionable. And The Machine lives and is up to no good which is really bad. Will Jason and his allies rise to win the day... or will the quadrant be enslaved by an insane program?
Bring on OF11 and hurry - I’m starving for more already.
I have faithfully followed Jason and the Omega Force crew since the release of book one. I can say with certainty that this series is one of my all time favorites. It has action, humor, drama, at times a smidge of romance all nicely packaged in a space opera. It seems like this quirky, noble, flawed crew is stepping up to be heros on a quadrant scale. I I will (not so) patiently, eagerly await the next release. Keep them coming!!
Didn’t think I’d get to read another book in this series. Last time we were with the Omega Force, Lucky, the battlesynth had been killed. Now a year has past and the Omega Force team has kind of dissolved. Jason Burke and Crusher snuck off in the middle of the night with the Phoenix and went out to the Badlands rim to stir up some trouble. They were bored with setting at their home base and needed to do something to take out their sorrow and anger over losing Lucky.
Of course neither would admit that Lucky’s death really got to them, but it was pretty obvious. They were now tearing around like a couple of wild men not showing their usual restraint when it came to killing everyone. They were on the verge of getting a very bad reputation, but that didn’t seem to be a reason for them to stop.
Then they got a call from an unexpected source that told them Kage and Twingo were in trouble and needed some serious rescuing. So, just in the nick of time, Jason, Crusher, and the Phoenix showed up and plucked them and their cargo off the roof of a factory that was about to blow to kingdom come! Jason and Crusher had no idea how their two other team members had gotten themselves in so much trouble. So, Kage began telling them a story that explained the what, but not the why.
You see, Kage found out that Lucky wasn’t necessarily dead! His head with his positronic brain and all of it’s major functions was still intact. There was a slight possibility that Lucky could be brought back to life if he had an appropriate body on which to place his head. And that’s what Kage and Twingo were out trying to procure. Oh, they weren’t wanting to buy a synth body, no they were going to steal one and not just any synth body. They had found the location of a secret ConFed factory that was making highly illegal battlesynths; a very advanced type of battlesynths. If they could break in to this factory and steal one of these new battlesynth bodies, then just maybe Lucky could be back with them.
So, you’ll have to read the story to find out if they were successful. Either way, Jason and the Omega Force had a new mission and that was to find out why the ConFed had suddenly become must more aggressive towards its neighbors. Someone or something was now calling the shots for the ConFed and they were taking steps to conquer neighboring empires and doing so without much of a problem. Jason just didn’t want to see Earth get swallowed up in this takeover because the general feeling about the new ConFed was that it was evil.
I like these stories and found this book by reading “Terran Scout, Book 1: Marine” which is a story about Jason Burke’s Son. I believe Jason knows he has a Son, but he’s not able to come to Earth and be with him especially while he’s just a child. But his child has grown up and is not kind of following in his Father’s footsteps, except he’s doing his thing legally. So, if you get a chance to read that book, I think you’ll enjoy it as much as this one and both series are pretty good.
Before you start this book, please note it is the tenth book of a series: you will need to have read the previous books in order so you can have the backstory on the characters, events, and the start of this installment.
I’m not sure if fans of this series will enjoy this one as I had a hard time getting through it. Without having a spoiler, there is a lot of brooding self-reflection with the characters, not much action, and it took me a while to get through it vs. my normal plowing through the other books of the series. I am guessing the tale has been told and, after numerous nice books in the series it is hard to come up with something good. Luckily, I picked this up for free via Kindle Unlimited vs. the regular price of $3.99; your results may vary.
Mr Dalzelle should pat himself on the back, not too much though. He has set the bar pretty high with yet another mix of action humour and a list of characters that are showing depth while not being too predictable. Can't wait for a new book of twists, turns, drunken bar fights, deep character flaws and humanity shown by the least human throughout the galaxy. The good work just keeps on coming... Pretty sure Jason and the ever extending family are going to keep us entertained for some time to come. Ten books at one time would have me looking to find something new. Not in this case, I'm hungry for more. Not an easy thing in my world. Keep up the good works Josh!
When I read what book 10 was about I was just about through with this series BUT as I read further down it said was the one killed really dead. I went on and read it because I knew he couldn't be dead. Actually, if Lucky, Twingo, Kage, Doc, Crusher or Jason were ever killed I would leave a scathing review and never this author again. An author simply cannot do such a thing when you've read 10 books with the same characters then kill one of them off!
This time Jason and his merry team, when the one that died didn't, they tried to stop the Machine from taking over the Eshquarian Empire, at the same time waiting breathlessly for the dead teammate to come back, and be his same as he was before.
When I stumbled across this author it never occurred to me that I would get so much enjoyment out of these first 10 books that I flew through. I tell my husband (when he asks) that I am reading another book about “those crazy ass men children”. The different personalities of the Omega Force are fascinating to me and remind me of my two grown male children and their friends growing up and after military and college lives who constantly trash talk each other but are still best friends. However, my children have some manners, thank goodness. I laugh out loud often. I spit my coffee out one morning. Looking forward to book 11.
8/10: Excellent read, well written, fell right into the fictional world created.
"I'm going to kill you," Crusher rumbled quietly. "I know I've said that a lot lately, but this time I'm actually going to kill you."
Ah, Crusher. He was in fine form in this one. I've got about half a dozen quotes belonging to him alone I could use, but I think this one sums up Omega Force nicely.
Another great read, but unfortunately the last out right now. So, now it's time to sit back and wait for another excellent story from the excellent world. Hurry up, please, Mr Dalzelle.
Enjoyed the book, as I have with all of the others and continually look forward to them coming out. Was a little sad the book was shorter then usual I feel, and the pacing was very fast paced. I like the characters progression with twingo and Kage, and really hope for more of that side in the future. Also, give Burke back his power suits! Not sure I cared for the new suit but will reread again to see how it settles. Thanks Josh. Been reading these books for the ost 5 years, and love the characters.
This is such a great new instalment of this brilliant series! It's great to see that Dalzelle, Joshua is so capable of finding new angles and layers to keep the story evolving in a fascinating and relevant way. And again: I found it almost impossible to put the book down and caught myself repeatedly laughing on my own because of the brilliant and blunt humour. Awesome. I'm almost ashamed for speeding through a book at FTL while it probably took so much longer to write the story... ;)
This rating is really for the 10 books I've read so far. These books developed well. I laughed out loud a few times, and actually teared up once. I simply couldn't wait to get the next book loaded. I can feel the characters develop along with the writing. This series is more than just a "story." It developed into a hard look at life, society, stereotypes, immortality, love, governance, freedom, and the flaws that cause one to be unique heroes, villains, or spectators of the universe around us.
OF10 is a great addition to the series. My only complaint is that I read through it already and now I have to wait another year for OF11. This book was a little more serious than previous OF entries but it made sense given the events taking place. Obviously anyone can guess that a major theme in this book is bringing Lucky back and I liked the way it was handled. Great job Josh and thank you. Can’t wait for the next book.
This was a great book but the fact that there was such a long period between books 9&10 took away from the overall effect. I re-read book 9 to refamiliarize myself with the characters but found a lot of things that were written that I couldn’t remember and I wasn’t willing to read all 9 books to catch up as I have several other books to read. So all in all I liked the book but couldn’t relate to much of it which took quite a bit of enjoyment away from it.
A lot of the issues are coming to ahead in this book, Lucky's processor system's have been placed into a new body. But only time will tell if they have a chance to work. There is a big issues with the regional powers that could cause untold damage. But the omega force team will need to be at their best when they start the process of taking down the machine behind all of the problems.
Over the past few years the Omega Force books have become some of my favorite stories ever read. I look forward to each new installment and savor each one for as long as I can. I love each of the characters and thoroughly enjoy "listening" to their bickering and banter, and I am always moved by their more serious moments. I cannot thank the author enough for giving me such wonderful entertainment and respite from difficult days.
Great characters, suspense, action, emotion , love (brotherly and otherwise), and disappointment as well. High action with some incidental near criminal acts (no not 'near' - actual). But with best intent - usually. Sometimes. Maybe justified - theft, killings - sometimes accidental. Sometimes not so much. This young NCO human has come a long way, has a heart of gold and is becoming wiser. I like him and all his unique sidekicks.
I use ratings to decide which books I am going to buy, and I recently decided I am partially responsible for inflating the ratings on books. Either they were 5 star or 1 star. I decided to use the star rating more objectively as follows:
★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will). ★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this. ★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad. ★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time? ★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.
I'm not a really fast reader. However, I have completed Josh Dalzelle's Omega Force: Legends Never Die in just two days. For me, that's amazing. The book starts out by grabbing the reader's attention, and continues like a runaway roller coaster. I think he should ad a preface: Get in,sit down, fasten your seatbelt. You're in for a WILD ride with Omega Force.
Constant Readers Of This Brilliant Adventure Series Will Be Happy To Know The Title (Although a Spoiler) Is Exactly What It Means..! Couldn't Imagine The Series Continuing Without The Most Endearing Member Of Delta Force! Peter Anthony Roland Miami Beach Florida July 2018
I’m glad josh has continued making the team whole again. I couldn't put it down and now that I've reached the end, i want more, soon, (is tomorrow being greedy?) Ok so I'm greedy..... Again thank you Josh for keeping our boys safe and giving Kage hope of female companiship.... Back to work Josh we want more... Holding empty bowl up.... More please..!!!!!
Well can I fantastic stories mixed with action and some proper soldiers banter. I have totally enjoyed the series so far now waiting for number 11 and the rest lol. Oh by the way the people who check spelling and the grammar need to use the thesaurus found some mistakes in most of the books
The Omega Force series has captured my attention from day one. I read each one, far too quickly, as soon as it comes out. I wish this one had lasted a little longer but I know the next one will be great too. This was a good follow on to the jolt of book 9. Keep them coming, Josh!
It's funny, you grow up reading books and you grow in reading them. Some authors do the same as they write more and more. I've yet to read a book from Joshua that I felt was lacking or that i can easily put the book down. Thank you for all the wonderful years of writing so far!
Book 10 felt like, to me, a rebirth of the franchise. Back to the roots of what made them so compelling and endearing that I couldn’t put this book down.
There’s a new threat that seems like it can span a few books and I’m extremely excited to binge the future stories.
The machine is back. Oh and it's even more dangerous than before. Loved this book and this series. Action packed with realistic situations and lots of action. The humorous interaction between the characters helps the story flow from chapter to chapter and leaves you wanting more. I look forward to more from this series 😁
I have just completed the 10 book series and absolutely loved it.
My only criticism would be the stories included a little too much touchy-feely dialog. Regardless, the action was excellent, the suspense continuous, and overall entirely engrossing. Just about every book resulted in a 3am reading session to finish!
So, New big bad. New friends and alliances. An old friend, and some silly monkeys causing side quests. Essentially, this book is a set up to a new major story arc, and change in the setting. Well done and entertaining, and all needed for the direction the story appears to be heading.
Jason & Crusher are still reeling from their feelings over the loss that the family suffered in losing Lucky. They are dealing with their grief by going out to do increasingly violent jobs where they leave a trail of chaos & dead bodies in their wake. Then the group winds up back together with their biggest mission yet.
This book was a little different but still had plenty of action both land and planet battles. Now Jason has a bigger problem on his hands or should I say in his head. My only gripe is the price and how short the book was. I might switch to a different book for a while to see if the price comes down. Still a good series.
How Lucky can you be with this group of misfits called Omega Force. The unique blend of personalities really is magic and I really like each character from Crusher, Kage, Doc, Twingo and of course Captain Burke. Such good entertainment and I look forward to more adventures 💗
