Tad Williams is a California-based fantasy superstar. His genre-creating (and genre-busting) books have sold tens of millions worldwide, in twenty-five languages. the story itself is quite good, with some amazing settings that are brilliantly described. All of this is to the credit of Tad Williams, yet the flip side of this is the narrator... I found listening to this to be a thoroughly painful experience, and ended up feeling a sizable degree of contempt and annoyance for certain lead and support characters because of the narrator.
