I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.

The first time I read this story was in the anthology Something Wicked This Way Comes, Volume 1 and it was a shorter version. I actually got this anthology just to read this story.
This new standalone version is not much different. It mainly includes a few conversations of Cathian with his father who wants to mate him with a nice female from his own planet and definitely not with a human.
So, Cathian is a captain, a Tryleskian and an ambassador for his race. Lately he is in trouble because he needs “feeding” and there is not any Tryleskian female available. Unless Cathian is “fed” fast, he will get crazy.
Nara is also a captain, a human and a trader. Lately she is in trouble because she is in jail and the only way she has not to be there anymore is to sell her body for a period of time. Cathian seems to be her easiest choice (at least she won't be eaten by him literally.....but she doesn't know that maybe she will be eaten by him figuratively).
I enjoyed the story once more but I think if you have read it before, it will not add anything to the original story. Still it is great to have such an interesting beginning in the new sci-fi erotica series.

This was a weird one. It felt really...clinical for about 50%. There was no romance element to this until about 75% and even then all hell breaks loose with the heroine literally BEGGING him to have sex with her and saying "I love you" while the hero's just like "Nah, cant risk hurting you." He was a pretty weak alpha in my opinion. Didnt go after his mate and was seconds away from having sex with an OW before the heroine breaks into the scene. Lame.
Is Ms Dohner continues this series I hope she comes up with better characters than this.

I loved this book but going in I knew I would. I wish it were longer but I knew going into it it was a novella and honestly I would have wanted it longer no matter how long it was. I can’t wait to see how book two turns out, were given a really nice introduction into a lot a characters who will be getting books in the future.
Nara was caught illegally selling medicine and her and her crew had the choice of going to prison on a planet that people don’t survive or spending a year as a sex slave. Nanas crew convinced her the later was the best choice but now Nara isn’t so sure. When the time comes to be sold Nara comes in contact with a woman who asks her to volunteer to be with her captain for six days while he is in heat. After that time Nara will be free, when the other options become very clear Nara agrees.
Cathian is out of his mind with need and hunger but when he comes to for brief moments Cathian and Nara get to know each other and care for each other. As their time winds down both find themselves not wanting to say goodbye but with woman from Cathians planet coming and human and Tryleskians untested Cathian isn’t sure he can risk Nara.
Cathian was an amazing hero, he was very possessive and jealous while at the same time very caring. Nara is smart and she knows what she wants and will do whatever she needs to to get it. Both Nara and Cathian are perfect together and I really enjoyed getting to know them as well as the entire crew on Cathians ship. The world Lauren Dohner created is a great addition to her books and worlds that draw me in every time. I can’t wait for the books to come.

I really wanted to like this, but it just fell flat.
It could be because it's short, but even if both hero and the heroine were decent, there was something that grated here...
I think it could be the easiness with which the heroine (and her companions) accepted to be sold as sex slaves... Rationally I could understand it, because who would choose maximum security jail where the possibility of being killed is high, but they just accepted it without any problem. Maybe it was because the book was short and there was no time to explain it better...
Also the hero's "in heat problem" was badly managed... The heroine, after 6 days and night of non-stop sex, realised that she's fallen in love and she's ready to die to be with the hero... Again I think it was badly done because of the shortness...

Some wonderful classic Laurann Dohner here. I love this new series since it kinda reminds me a little of New Species. Cathian has some interesting feline characteristics and Nara is hopeless to resist.

Isn’t that ironic. You wasted the money needed to keep our shuttle flying to buy sex, but now we’re the hookers.
Nara and Cathian were all about sex. That’s why she’s bought. Sex. Sex. And more sex. I would think it was ridiculous but I knew what I was getting myself into. Every three years Cathian goes into heat and needs to feed so his loyal crew does the unthinkable and buys him a sex slave. Nara who is human is compatible with him so she agrees. Kind of. The whole thing is shady and about sex. So...sex. Lots of sex. I don’t even know what to say. Read it if you want a hot read and not expecting much. I still thought it was good and the crew fascinated me. They’re all so different and those pod looking things are creepy af but so handy. What a great crew. Seriously, I need more of the crew. I think the rest of the books follow them so, yay!
I feel like I have to mention, I read the whole thing on one part of my return flight from Thailand. It was a super fast read and so interesting. I couldn’t put it down even though I was exhausted.

Admito que cuando conoci esta saga hace un tiempo pense que seria demasiado extraña para mi, obviamente eso fue antes de devorar los libros de Ruby Dixon, los cuales me curaron definitivamente mi escepticismo con este tipo de novelas.
Cathian fue una historia mejor de lo que imaginaba, es cierto que el desarrollo es un poco rapido pero al tener un numero de paginas tan reducido es normal que lo que sucede sea narrado a un ritmo muy agil, en cuanto a los personajes solo tengo una pequeña pega y es que me hubiera gustado llegar a conocer mas a fondo la raza de Cathian, aunque ese detalle supongo que sera satisfecho en los siguientes tomos.
En fin, una lectura ideal para los amantes de este genero que te mantendra agradablemente distraida.

3.5 rounded up. It felt longer than advertised, but still the plot was condensed as expected. However, it was a bit unusual to find a gruff alien who was also a cunning linguist. The best aspects were actually the cultural comparisons over duty vs love vs loyalty. All nicely done. I'll read the next one.

This has all the things I love about an alien/human relationship. The writing is usually pretty bad for books like this one but LD knows how to write a sexy, cool, fluffy, terrific romance. The H and h were perfect. It was a safe read. I really enjoyed this book!

If Laurann Dohner is going to write it, then you're dang sure I am going to read it. She knows exactly what I like; a sexy not-quite human hero, with alpha male tendencies and a heart like a marshmallow. I first read her New Species series, which till this day still remains one of my favourites, however, it may be knocked of the top spot with her new The Vorge Crew series. I loved it.The Vorge Crew series tells the tale of the unique and motley crew aboard the ambassadorial space ship Vorge. Each crew member has their own troubled past, which we see revealed in their book as they fall prey to love, some more willingly than others.Cathian the Bossy Boss oneThe Vorge Crew #13 stars We kick the series off with Cathian, Cathian Veller is the ship's captain and he's about to go into a mating frenzy. The only problem is, is that he's far from home with no females to help him through his heat. Nara is in a bind. It's either jail or the sex auction. She chooses the sex auction; at least there she has a chance to escape. However, she is offered a deal. Six days. She needs to be render her services for six days and then she's free.This book was originally a short story in an anthology, so it may sound familiar, but it was updated and expanded to be the start of this series. I haven't read it in its original form, so I don't know how much it has changed, it's still fairly short at just over 100 pages, but in those pages it really packed the action in. This was a sexy start to the series and did a good job of introducing the world and the characters.It wasn't my favourite in the series, but it had me eagerly reaching for the next book.Dovis the Grumpy oneThe Vorge Crew #23.5 stars Mari has spent her life as a slave, but she knows compared to other humans she has had it easy. Where she will be paid for her work. Dovis isn't happy about the human engineer on his ship, especially as she works hard enough to make everyone else look lazy. But, it is their mutual attraction that he really can't stand, can the timid and sweet engineer tame the beast?This book...so adorable! It was the sci fi version of beauty and beast, with the eager to please Mari taming Dovis our surly head of security. Although the story line offers nothing new, it was such a cute and sexy story that it had me falling in love with both Mari and Dovis.Also...werewolf in space.Yorkthe Sweet oneThe Vorge Crew #34 stars York has watched two of his crewmates fall in love and he wants that for himself. As a Parri his race need touch and physical affection, something that isn't plentiful on ship. Which, is how he agrees to an arranged marriage with a fellow Parri female. Sara was sold out by Earth's government when they sold her into slavery. Until she was saved by another alien race. Only being saved from slavery hasn't seemed to improved her circumstances. Now she is living in poverty on an alien planet and despised by all races. When she see's the big blue male who was kind to her being abused and disparaged by his betrothed, she can't help thinking that he deserves better. But what can she do? He's getting married in the morning after all.This book was my favourite in the series so far. Is it because I am bias and I have a love for big blue aliens with a heart of gold? Maybe. But I absolutely loved how cuddly and gentle York was. I also loved Sara, she took a massive leap of faith with York and after all she's been through she deserved happiness.This book probably won't be for everyone, there wasn't much conflict, they basically agree to marry and then very quickly fall in love. I'm not really a fan of insta-love...but I just loved these two together, sometimes you just want two lovely people to get what they deserve.Raffthe Dangerous oneThe Vorge Crew #43 stars The latest in the Vorge series is about Raff, half brother of Cathian. Raff's mother was abandoned by his father on a desolate and dangerous planet when she was pregnant. When Cathian learned of Raff's existence he immediately went to his brother bringing him abroad the Vorge. But, was too late to save Raff's mother. Brought up in a brutal environment has made Raff lethal to his enemies and he intends to go back to kill the man responsible for the death of his mother. But somehow ends up saving a human slave instead. Lilly wanted adventure... she never expected to find quite so much. She's currently a slave after her ship was captured and the crew killed by pirates. Now, she's at the feet of a dangerous looking male who could either kill her or save her...Raff has been a silent but intimidating presence on the Vorge. We've had hints about his past and how Cathian found him, now we see that up close in this book. This book had a faster pace than the others in the series, this was because there was also action; Raff and Lilly spent most of the book on the run. However, it wasn't my favourite. I liked Raff and Lilly, however, I think their relationship went too fast, even for a Laurann Dohner book. I didn't quite feel their connection like I have with previous couples.It was still an enjoyable and sexy read, but it is probably my least favourite in the series.If, like me, you like sci fi romance, then you definitely need to pick this series up. This isn't the end, there is still a female member of the crew left single and I can't wait to see what happens with her and there was also a bit of a plot twist at the end of Raff - don't worry it doesn't effect the HEA, it was a twist in the plot of the series. I snatched up this book randomly through audible as I needed something quick to read. Laurann Dohner has yet to disappoint me. This book was extremely short, the insta-lust is strong and for the most part the book is about the MCs getting it on. Cathian’s race goes through heat and the time has come. Nora is the lucky lady brought to sate his hunger on, while she’s hesitant there is no force or anything such as that. I really enjoyed the book and found the characters and storyline enjoyable. Nora finds herself caught and labeled a criminal. She is being sold as a slave, something that would be less than enjoyable for someone as brazen, mouthy and determined as she is. Nice, quick read that set my ears on fire! ( as I listened via audio ) 🤓

I have been dying to listen to this series.
As a fan of Laurann I wasn’t sure what to expect just to expect different and that is exactly what we got. This is unlike any of her other series. I love that we have an alien of sorts and a human but the fact that she knows about other life forms that was kind of nice.
The world building was spot on it wasn’t too much of an overload but there was enough description that you were never confused. I really like all the side characters we have met and I hope we see more of them as the series goes on because some of there were very entertaining.
Nara is a funny human in the aspect that she doesn’t just do as she is told, she uses her mind and won’t take no for an answer and is persuasive without lying I quite liked that. Also with how short these stories are the connection she and Captain Cathian have really shined through. I didn’t feel the instalove, it was fast yes but gradual.
I enjoyed the narration Callie is a great narrator and it is nice to have a change invoices from one series to the next. I was very pleased.

I read this story when it was just a part of an anthology. Re-written and expanded sounded good to me since I do like Ms. Dohner's New Species, Zorn Warriors and Cyborg series.
Unfortunately this story might have been expanded, but the quality was not increased. I would rather say I liked the short in the anthology better than the expanded version.
There is just no plot at all, or a very vague one. The characters are flat and all they do is spend time together eating, sleeping and having oral sex. And after 6 days they are madly in love. I don't mind insta-love or insta-mate, but this felt lackluster.
I'm not sure I'll come back for seconds...

I love Laurann Dohner’s books and this one is no exception. It’s sexy, engaging and sweet. Looking forward to Dovis’ story and hope we hear more from Cathian too.

This was a short and quick story..I gave the stars for the spice 🌶️
It was a weird story…Cathian has gone into heat and the only way to build himself up for it is by feeding on hormones and the way he gets the hormones is by giving non stop oral and feeding on the orgasms..which he does on Nara (I think Nara was well happy 😆)..apart from that,there’s not much to this book

Heroine Nara was captured when her ship's engines failed and was given a choice of being auctioned off as a sex slave or to a prison where the prisoners are known to be eaten. So she chose the auction and was bought by our hero Cathian's crew when he started going into heat and they couldn't find other compatible females. It's amazing how compatible us human females are to aliens in space... bode well for the continuation of the human race when we finally have that close encounter with ET... LOL!
Hero Cathian was worried that he'd hurt Nara when he goes feral and tried to send her away. So Nara took matters into her own hands and everything is resolved satisfactorily at the end.
This is a short fun read and a bit of a s*xfest. But with heart. Another interesting series from Laurann Dohner.
Heroine Nara was captured when her ship's engines failed and was given a choice of being auctioned off as a sex slave or to a prison where the prisoners are known to be eaten. So she chose the auction and was bought by our hero Cathian's crew when he started going into heat and they couldn't find other compatible females. It's amazing how compatible us human females are to aliens in space... bode well for the continuation of the human race when we finally have that close encounter with ET... LOL!
Hero Cathian was worried that he'd hurt Nara when he goes feral and tried to send her away. So Nara took matters into her own hands and everything is resolved satisfactorily at the end.
This is a short fun read and a bit of a s*xfest. But with heart. Another interesting series from Laurann Dohner.

I first read this in the anthology 'Something Wicked This Way Comes vol.1'. It was only 36 pages and this new version is 96 pages.
The first version was definitely too short and read more like a story outline.
This one still felt short but was more entertaining.
Cathian is going into heat earlier than he expected and needs a compatible woman to lick over and over. It's a pretty ridiculous plot device but works well for an erotic romance.
Nara is a human who left Earth after her ex-husband turned out to be a philandering thief. All was going well until she gets caught by an unjust law and sold as a sex slave to Cathian.
Very simplistic but I still enjoyed it and look forward to grumpy-ass Dovis' story.

Finally! I got through a book! It just goes to show what 563 sampling (plus around 167 possibly future purchaseS) and being in self isolation and distancing can do when you’re stuck in the house with your kids and a husband working from home. It’s really not bad but it is good to know that returning to an author that previously had some good books, still is able to get you across that line in times when you wonder if you’ll ever be happy again with a book.
Cathian, lots of sizzle and sex. Why the four star? Well it was short. Nicely wrapped up but I could have enjoyed a few more chapters.
If you like her stories in the past, this one won’t be any different.

I read this and then skimmed the original in the anthology. The expanded has a storyline with Cathian and his father that the first did not. It is a better story and I think that Dohner might expand on it. It is definitely erotic romance or erotica as it revolves around sex and the couple have insta love in a 5-6 day period. Quick read, very good erotic romance.

EDIT: I would like to clarify that this is a book where the MMC LITERALLY NEEDS TO EAT 🐱 TO SURVIVE and my original review was generic and lame. Like what drugs was I on to forget that HE HAS TO CONSUME HER HORMONES TO NOT DIE WHILE IN HEAT. Anyways, carry on.
This was a good quick read. It wasn’t lacking in details anywhere, which was nice. Some parts did feel rushed, but that’s expected for the length. The overall plot was paced very nicely.
