Something strange is happening on Allen island, something eerie that no one can understand. For Eric Allen, it is the beginning of a hideous nightmare. Brutal mutilations, mysterious murders and dreadful apparitions plague the tiny island, and gentle Eric is suddenly accused of having become a violent monster. Terrified, and convinced that supernatural forces are out to claim him, body and soul, Eric consults Jenn Colum, a nationally known debunker of the occult. But faced with the inhuman power of the force that is consuming Eric, she realizes that the evil presence within him is capable of destroying them both.
3/5. I'm being pretty generous with this one! It may have been the fact that I exclusively listened to giallo soundtracks while reading this, but it really did give me a Fulci-esque vibe at times. Now I know that is really only going to appeal to a super niche amount of people, but if youre into bizarre occult Eurotrash movies... this could possibly be worth knocking out in a weekend.
Although the subject matter (doppelgangers) is interesting enough; the dull characters, predictable story, and lack of atmosphere add up to a mostly forgettable book.
