This is a fun illustrated look at how the redheaded community has shaped the modern world—from Vikings to pop stars, and movie legends to Muppets.
Part identification guide (the “50 shades of red” if you will), part historical artifact, Ginger Pride looks at 50 of the most important, influential redheads throughout history—from the legendary Viking Erik the Red and Cleopatra (yes, really) through to more modern gingers, including Ed Sheeran, Louis CK, Lucille Ball, Molly Ringwald, Conan O’Brien, Nicole Kidman and Elmo. With an estimated 18 million gingers in the U.S. alone (up to 6 percent of the population), this book is one for this much-maligned group of people (and their fans) who continue to impact the world.
Tobias Anthony is a writer and humourist, whose books have been published in Europe, Australia, North America and the United Kingdom. Some of his titles include Hipster Baby Names: Really, Really Ridiculously Good Names for Your Kid; A Very Modern Dictionary; Ginger Pride: A red-headed history of the world; and Should I Buy This Book?: Life’s Hardest Decisions Made Easy… by Flow Chart. Or, as it’s known in Sweden: Ska jag köpa den här boken?
In another life, Tobias completed a PhD examining the representations of popular culture in contemporary fiction, before going on to teach screenwriting to university students for too little money. He is the recipient of a Varuna Residency Fellowship in Australia and a Leighton Artists’ Studios Residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada.
Didn't finish this. Perhaps if you're a ginger this is more enticing, but to me it felt a bit too long and detailed to be the fun little gag book I'd anticipated.
