Sometimes you become so intrigued by a story that you just have to shove aside frugality for the moment and just buy the book. That's the way the War Room: Prayer is a Powerful Weapon was for me. I kept seeing my friends posts on Facebook about this story and decided it's was worth seeing what all the fuss was about.
Once I started reading I just couldn't put this book down, staying up most of the night finishing it. The riveting story itself was a page turner. "But it's Clara's secret prayer room" that kept me thinking and getting excited for more prayer in my own life. This book made me want a War Room of my own. I can't imagine a vacant spot for a prayer room in my home but I'm considering clearing something out!
Both Elizabeth and Clara are such great characters in this book. Clara with her calling to help someone and Elizabeth with her willingness to change.
I felt myself totally immersed in this story as it unfolded (I'm still making up the sleep). The turmoil, the tears, the calling out to God, and the joy are all described so well, I felt as though as I right there fighting the battle with them.
The impression this story left with me has stayed for days. This was a definite must read!
This book was as good as the movie and visa versa. I highly recommend it to everyone that has a burden on their hearts for their loved ones to have a closer relationship with the Lord. If possible, read the book before watching the movie. In my case, I saw the movie first, which made reading it even more exciting. It was like seeing the movie all over again in your mind. So again, I highly recommend it!!
I saw the movie and I have to say with out a doubt this movie stirred something in me that was dead. I have always knew the power of prayer. I was a part of a Intercessory Prayer Group for many years. My mother taught us kids at a young age the power of prayer. This movie had me looking at my own life and how God uses the circumstances in our lives to get us to the place He's been calling us. But when we refuse to listen to God circumstances have to happen to get our attention. After I watched it me and my husband watched it together and he was moved by it so much that he literally cried almost through the movie. The message is so powerful that you can sense the Holy Spirit speaking to both me and my husband. After the movie was over, my husband grabbed my hands and he started praying immediately asking God to forgive us for all the wrong and for putting other things ahead of God.
As humans I don't know why we have to see a situation as being bad before we war when we should war every day. A must see for everyone! My prayer is that every family should see this movie and red the book. Because God worked in every area of this family, not just the marriage but the daughter as well and the GRACE God provided. I say thank you Lord for speaking to those who directed and wrote the words of this film. For Lord you deserve and get all the Glory. AMEN
If your looking for a story about family & the importance of it, then I think you'll really enjoy The War Room. This book is a Christian based book. Maybe you're turned off by that already. But don't run in the other direction...not just yet.
Things you should know first. Fabry isn't preachy or pushy in delivery. I actually liked the story and could relate to each character and their own internal challenges...their reasons 'why'. I thought that was important, worth exploring. There is drama...oh yeah, real I-want-to-sex-you-up, nobody-will-know drama. For me, that's real. Everyday life, making this book so much more relatable than I initially thought it would be (#WINNING).
There is good character development and you are able to connect with the characters. I mean, I felt like, 'oh I know that girl'... 'yeah...I definitely know that guy'. And despite their flaws, there was still the right amount of tension and release here. I find that when writing books like these, it is extremely important to get it right. Fabry kept you wondering, kept you engaged, but didn't totally wreck your vibe.
I listened to this via audio and I think it enhanced my experience. It was actually read by the author and I think he did an outstanding job. I am now hoping to get to see the movie... just to see the spin they put on it.
My final rating for this book is a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It is well written, has lots of twists, and gives you a warm hug at the end.
What a wonderful novel about the power of prayers!!! And also so uplifting. I've been so encouraged and motivated to stay focus on God, despite all the contrary circumstances, surroundings and all heartrending turnabouts!!!
Elizabeth Jordan a very good and young realtor goes trough a crisis in her marriage, her man a successful sales agent for a pharma Firma has entangled himself with illegal machinations.. He also wants to connect with other women!!
In the midst of all this, she comes across Clara, an old widow which happens to be also a mighty prayer warrior.
They both together fight the real enemy, and suddenly things happens, the situation begin to alter and the glory of the living God once more brightens a cold, dark , cloudy and misty night!!
Chris Fabry in his tale has brought me to laugh, to weep, and has touch my heart deeply and softly.. I've been accompanied during my readings also by the audio book read by the author, and have seen the movie adaptation on DVD. Both of them very good indeed, but my recommendation is foremost for the novel.. So, if you need something encouraging, uplifting and to fill you with hope, then don't hesitate and go for it!!!
I have had a great time reading this.. "War Room" will be remembered by me as one of the literary highlights in 2018!!!
Recommendations to all of you, my goodreads friends, and five well deserved stars.. If you can don't miss the movie adaptation also!!
As always al the best to you all, and of course here comes the: happy reading!!!!!
I read War Room by Chris Fabry and oh my goodness. I couldn’t put it down. It was so full of great story and then spiritual truth woven throughout - it really spoke to me on so many levels. This was an amazing book. I could relate to Tony and Elizabeth from the beginning - I think anyone can who lives in this fast paced world that we live in. They shared similarities to everyone’s life and marriage if you look close enough. I loved Ms. Clara. This was a great book and its one that I will be thinking about for years to come. I want to build my own prayer closet. God has been speaking to me about my prayer life and this book just further cemented how important the power of prayer is. Even though this was a fiction book, I believe that God can work miracles like that in real life. He is bigger and more powerful than we can imagine and when we ask Him in His name to move mountains, Well - His answers will always amaze us. I loved this book and would highly recommend to everyone: teenagers, men, women - anyone who loves a great fiction story and also likes a book that will make them think long after they put it down.
I received this book for free from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review. I have posted my review on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Goodreads, and Deeper Shopping.
Can’t wait to see the next film by Alex and Stephen Kendrick. They co-wrote and produced Flywheel, Fireproof, Courageous, Facing the Giants and now War Room. I’m thankful for the review copy of a book that gives me a peek into the subject matter tackled in the story. I was thrilled to see Priscilla Shire playing Elizabeth; the leading lady in the film.
Elizabeth Jordan is a real-estate agent who gets more than she bargains for when she meets up with Miss Clara to discuss selling her home. Miss Clara starts asking personal questions like, does she go to church, what her husband does for a living. Does she believe in God? …”Elizabeth felt confused. Was this a counseling session or were they trying to sell the woman’s house? But she smiled and put on a good face. “Yes, I would say I know the Lord.”…Do you think the Lord is okay with this asking price?”
Miss Clara gives Elizabeth a tour of the house and shows her the prayer closet. She says, “Now this is where I do my fighting.”
“A closet.” Elizabeth said.
“I call it my war room…A prayer strategy…I used to do what you and your husband are doing (fighting) but it got me nowhere. Then I started really studying what the scriptures say, and God showed me that it wasn’t my job to do the heavy lifting. No that was something that only He could do. It was my job to seek Him, to trust Him and to stand on His word!....Elizabeth if you’ll give me one hour a week, I can teach you how to fight the right way, with the right weapons.”
Elizabeth likes Miss Clara. It couldn’t hurt. Her marriage was in trouble and she was tired of doing the same thing and getting nowhere. Little did she know how God would use that time together; to change her life.
This is a great dialogue about prayer. What is prayer? Why Pray? Does Prayer really matter when God knows all? This is a powerful message, talking about serious topics that affect all of us. This book is filled with truth, encouragement, talks about hard topics, and helps readers on the how too’s of setting up a War room of their own. I loved the well timed humor sprinkled throughout this novelization too.
The Kendrick brothers show Elizabeth and Tony’s challenge in life and with each other. Questions are brought up about Prayer, Grace and Freedom. Miss Clara asks, “Elizabeth, there’s not room for both you and God on the throne of your heart. It’s either Him or you. You need to step down. Now, if you want victory, you’re gonna have to first surrender.”
I highly recommend this powerful challenging read to enjoy yourself, pass on to a friend, and one that would be great for book club. The movie hits theaters nationwide August 28th.

Review Title: The Prayer Advantage (review of War Room by Chris Fabry) Reviewer: Janice S. Garey ***** 5 Stars
My husband and I listened to this enlightening book from Audible. It inspires people to want to draw close to God in prayer. I felt the story and the reading of it by Chris Fabry brought the characters to life in such a way that I wanted to be friends with them. They seemed that real.
I did not get to see the movie yet, so I can not compare the book to the movie. I believe the book adds a lot of details that give strength to the reasons the characters act as they do. I thought that the mother's spiritual influence on the daughter was a helpful portrayal of how parents might reach out to their children on that level. The distance that grew between the spouses over time seemed reasonable according to typical two career couple's stresses and going in separate ways.
People who are not prayer warriors will get to see or hear how one lady teaches another in ways to seek God's ear and favor. The topic is serious, but humorous situations develop in the story, too.
I am to receive this book from the publisher and bookfun.org in exchange for an honest review. I feel most Christians will appreciate this story and its message. Seekers will be glad to spend time with these characters to gain insight into the Christian faith and prayer.
Wow! This is an awesome book with a powerful message!! This book will have you examining your prayer life. The power of your prayers can touch not only your life but also the lives of your spouse, your children, co-workers, friends, and complete strangers. You can pray anywhere at any time, driving your car, washing clothes, at work, to name a few and your prayers are heard. This book also explains the importance of a "secret place" a place where you can be alone with God and not only talk with Him but also have your heart open for Him to speak to your heart. We all have areas in our lives that need help. Your problems could be marital/relationship, financial, health, work-related, and the list could go on and may be a combination of many problems. Plus, the problem(s) may require changes you need make in your own life. It's not always the other person that needs to change. There is no area of your life or anyone else's that God cannot heal. There is unlimited power and importance in prayer. While God's answer may not be instantaneous as we many times pray for. Everything is done in God's timing. God's answer may be: yes, not now, and even no. Sometimes we may not feel God is answering or has not heard our prayers. It is at these times when God may be working on your answer. It could also be the work of the father of lies or one of his demons attempting to work his ugly self into your life by planting seeds of doubt, hopelessness, any negativity that will allow him in. Just order that devil to go back to that burning place him came from! We are all imperfect and could have a stronger prayer life. This book has a message for everyone. I could go on and on....I LOVED this book and I think you will too.
Excellent movie! This book is taken from the movie. The only think different is most of the deleted scenes are in the book. If you enjoyed the movie you will enjoy this book. Every believer ought to see the movie, then if you enjoy reading read the book. I have listed many quotes from this book (movie) below. The words encouraged and challenged me and I trust they will do the same for you!
A prayer strategy. Yes. I used to do what you and your husband are doing, but it got me nowhere. Then I started really studying what the Scriptures say, and God showed me that it wasn’t my job to do the heavy lifting. No. That was something that only He could do. It was my job to seek Him to trust Him, and to stand on His Word.
Elizabeth said, “Miss Clara, I’ve never seen anything like this (her prayer closet0. And I admire it, I really do. It’s just that I don’t have time to pray that mush every day. Miss Clara’s response, “But you apparently have time to fight losing battles with your husband.”
The other truth she believed, from a life experiencing it, was that for real change to happen deep in the soul, God tended to make people miserable rather than happy. He brought them to the end of themselves and showed them how powerless they were in order to show them how powerful He was. The children of Israel didn’t push back the Red Sea. They didn’t knock down the walls of Jericho. It was only when they were at the end of their rope and had to depend on someone bigger that they saw God work mightily. It was the same with each follower of Jesus.
She wanted to pray that God would restore Elizabeth’s marriage and turn her husband’s heart around and that everything would be fixed overnight. Immediate healing was easier to pray for than a transplant because a transplant takes time and someone else has to die. But the more Clara spoke with the Lord about the situation, the more she understood Elizabeth’s life was probably going to get worse before it got better. And the issue wasn’t just Elizabeth’s husband. It was Elizabeth herself.
“When I fought against my husband,” Clara continued, “I was fighting against my own marriage and my family. I tried for years to fix Leo, but I couldn’t do it.” “Well, I’ve gotten nowhere with Tony.” “Cause it’s not your job! Who said it was your responsibility to fix Tony? It’s your job to love him, respect him, and to pray for the man. God knows he needs it.” She raised her voice to a falsetto. “And men don’t like it when their woman’s always trying to fix them.”
“Elizabeth, you got to plead with God so that He can do what only He can do, and then you got to get out of the way and let Him do it.”
“God does hear what we pray. You don’t need a megaphone or a million people to get His attention. But the point of prayer is not to get what we want. Prayer changes the person who prays.”
“The goal of prayer is not to change God’s mind about what you want. The goal of prayer is to change your own heart, to want what He wants, to the glory of God.”
And you need to do your fightin’ in prayer. You need to kick the real enemy out of your home with the Word of God.
Now here Elizabeth stood, fully awake to the battle. “I don’t know where you are, devil,” she said loudly, “but I know you can hear me.” She looked at the stone fireplace and the furniture in the room. “You have played with my mind. And had your way long enough. No more! You are done!” She walked into the kitchen, lights reflecting on the granite countertop. She glanced back from where she had just come. “Jesus is Lord of this house, and that means there’s no place for you here anymore! So take your lies, your schemes and accusations, and get out! In Jesus’ name!” Elizabeth could hear Clara’s voice echoing in her head – the way she would say those words. She opened the back door and walked onto the deck. “You can’t have my marriage, you can’t have my daughter, and you sure can’t have my man! This house is under new management, and that means you are out!” She walked inside and slammed the door behind her. Then something clicked in her mind and she opened the door again and stepped outside. “And another thing! I am so sick of you stealing my joy. But that’s changing too. My joy doesn’t come from my friends, it doesn’t come from my job, it doesn’t even come from my husband. My joy is found in Jesus, and just in case you forgot, He has already defeated you. So go back to hell where you belong and leave my family alone!” Elizabeth slammed the door again and it felt like the exclamation point to her proclamation. She was finally taking control. No, that wasn’t the truth. She was getting out of the way and letting God take control. She was going with Him, agreeing with Him instead of her enemy. No longer would she be ruled by fear or by the actions of anyone else.
She wanted to tell Elizabeth that if you come to God with a good plan, you’ll probably leave frustrated. The believer’s job was to come to God with a surrendered heart. To come empty-handed every morning not to get what you wanted but to receive all of who He was and what He wanted for you.
“Sometimes the best gifts God gives us are not the easy times when everything goes our way. The best gifts are the hard times when your life is reduced to a couple of good questions: What is this all about? Why are we here? Sometimes it’s a diagnosis. Sometimes it’s a slamming door when someone you love walks out. Might be a bill you can’t pay. And at first you think the answer will be healing or that loved one returning or a pile of money that drops right out of heaven. Now I’m not against healing. I’m for it. And I’m for reconciliation. If God opens up the storehouses of heaven and rains down hundred-dollar bills, I’ll get out a basket and gather them like manna.” Elizabeth laughed, though Clara figured tears were running down her cheeks at the same time. “But here’s the thing I’ve discovered after walking with the Lord a long time, Elizabeth. God is not interested in making me comfortable or happy. His goal is to make me holy, like His Son. And I’ve never met a follower of Jesus who hasn’t encountered some suffering pain. God doesn’t tell us to pick up a memory foam cross. It’s rugged and it’s heavy. You can run and try to find some easier way, but eventually He leads you through the thorns and briars and that valley of the shadow. But I promise you, if you trust Him, He will lead you to green pastures and peaceful waters. Not just when you get to heaven, but right now. Peace and contentment in the middle of the storm. In the middle of the disappointment and fear and anger.
The bad times are really the good times in disguise.
“All I know is, you can fight against your wife, and probably hold your own, but if God is fighting for her, you can hit the gym all you want to, but it’s not looking too good for you.”
Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in God.
But I’ve learned that my contentment can’t come from you. Tony, I love you. But I am His before I’m yours. And because I love Jesus, I’m staying right here.
“Ha-haaaa! Devil, you just got your butt kicked!” she screamed. “My God is faithful! He’s powerful! He’s merciful! He’s in charge! You can’t fire Him, and He’ll never retire! Glory! Praise the Lord!”
“Really, what I’m talking about here is the difference between you working hard to change things and revival. I hear people talking a lot about revival and what they want God to do to change society and the culture and how much sin there is in Hollywood and everywhere else. I pray for revival. But I’ve lived long enough to know that it doesn’t start with anybody but me. Right here.” Clara pointed a bony finger toward her own heart. “If you find yourself getting anxious, nervous, questioning whether Tony can change, you’re not really questioning him, you’re questioning whether God has the power to do what He said He could do.”
C.S. Lewis Quote: To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket – safe, dark, motionless, airless – it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.
“Lord Jesus, You know the struggle that Tony has. You know the indecision, the shame, the pain of his choices. I pray You would remind him right now of whose child he is. And that when You look at him, You see the perfection of Your Son, Jesus. Thank You that You have conquered sin. Thank You that the evil one is not in control. Give Tony the courage to do what You’re asking him to do, in Your timing.”
“Once the power of God is unleashed in a life, things don’t stay the same. And that’s what prayer does, it unleashes the power of God. You see, prayer is not about getting things right. You don’t get your prayers answered because you kneel in just the right spot or say just the right words.”
Why pray at all? “If God knows everything and if He’s working out His will in the world, what’s the point?” “Mm-hmm,” Clara said. “The answer to that question is simple, but not easy. We pray because God tells us to. He commands us to. So we obey. And John says whenever we ask anything according to God’s will, He hears us. So why would God ask us to do something that makes no difference? That’s really your question.” “I do or I wouldn’t waste my time or the cartilage in my knees.” “Prayer brings us closer to the heart of God. It opens your heart to those around you and makes you long for what He longs for. And it’s clear from the first page to the last that God does respond to the requests of His people. I don’t pretend to understand it, but it’s true.”
Pray and wait. That’s what she had done in the past few weeks. And in the waiting came the strengthening of the muscles of faith. It was a whole-faith workout to wait and allow God to do what He wanted to do. As Clara said, it was time to just get out of His way.
“God is working here. He’s done a big thing in your husband’s heart. And it doesn’t matter what that company decides.”
“The circumstance doesn’t matter. It’s your reaction to it that matters.”
“Most people think ‘God helps those who help themselves’ is in the Bible. Listen, God helps those who have come to the end of themselves. And that’s where Tony is. I know it feels terrible, but it’s a very good thing.”
No matter what happened to her and Tony, no matter how choppy the waters became because of the evil one’s influence, she had a choice. She could choose to be tossed about and blown off course, or she could be controlled by the love of God. She could choose to look at how far God had gone to show her love – the death of His only Son. She could choose to see the rescue plan God put in place for her soul, how much He cared, how much He wanted to bless her. She could either look at the circumstances she was in, which were pretty dire, or she could see the big picture, that God was ultimately in control and would walk with her no matter what happen.
I hear people say, “Well all we can do now is pray.” That’s the best thing we can do.
A lot of people want to do great things for God. A lot of people want to change the world. I just shake my head when I hear that. God is the only one who can change the world because He’s the only one who can change hearts and minds.
My whole source of joy is in You.
I would rather have a man chasing Jesus than a house full of stuff.
If … My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.
“You’ve done it again, Lord. You’ve done it again. You are good and You are mighty and You are merciful. And You keep taking care of me when I don’t deserve it. Praise You, Jesus. You are Lord.”
“Give me another one, Lord. Guide me to who You want me to help. Raise up more that will call on Your name. Raise up those that love You and seek You and trust You. Raise them up, Lord, raise them up!”
In her mind, she saw a family clasping hands at the dinner table to pray. A man on a tractor in the middle of his field. Two men with bowed heads praying in front of a world map.
“Lord, we need a generation of believers who are not ashamed of the gospel. We need an army of believers who hate to be lukewarm and will stand on Your Word above all else. Raise’em up Lord. Raise them up.”
Clara saw streams of young people moving toward a flagpole, encircling the area with eyes closed. Others were heading for a church in the distance, carrying young children.
“I pray for unity among those that love You. I pray that You’d open their eyes so that they can see Your truth. I pray for Your hand of protection and guidance.”
Clara thought of the police officers in her town and across the nation. Of the division between races and the struggles she had witnessed over the years.
“Raise up a generation, Lord that will take light into this world. That will not compromise under pressure that will not cower when others fall away. Raise them up, Lord; that they will proclaim that there is salvation in the name of Jesus Christ. Raise up warriors who will fight on their knees, who will worship You with their whole hearts. Lord, call us to battle, that we may proclaim You King of kings and Lord of lords!”
Clara pictured fathers praying over their newborn children. She pictured men and women in places of high power kneeling and praying for guidance. She thought of schoolteachers and business leaders and gas station attendants and mothers at PTA meetings. She thought of pastors and youth workers and missionaries and the faces all came together in her final words of petition.
“I pray these things with all my heart. … Raise them up, Lord, raise them up!”
If you have watch this movie, you will fall in love with the book. As per usual, the novel provides more details than the video could ever explain. You will not be disappointed for diving into this novel. God awaken an entire family through one older woman doing as He asked.
Based on the Motion Picture By Alex Kendrick & Stephen Kendrick
I am so glad I picked this book for review. I had no idea it was based on a new movie coming out until I received it in the mail. Having God save my marriage personally I could relate to many things in this story. I just love the character Miss Clara, I wish she was my friend and neighbor. Such an awesome and encouraging woman of God. I was sad for this book to end. I looked forward to sitting down and reading it. I want to see the movie now, but I am so glad I read the book first. I have a renewed fire in me now. I want to have a closer relationship with the Lord. I want to go back to praying for the needs of my family, friends loved ones and strangers I meet. I feel like I have slacked off in that area of my life. This book has inspired me to try again. To seek the Lord in a new way. It has opened a door for me and I am excited. Now I don't know if this story will do that for you, but I sure am glad I read this book. It isn't a "self help" or "this is the way to get God to move" book. It is a fictional story as far as I know. It's just such a wonderfully inspiring story. I like how it doesn't portray Christians as "perfect and having it all together". They make it clear it is through a relationship with Jesus that things can change in your life. Grace is shown throughout this story and that is so important. I got so much enjoyment from this story. I felt a range of emotions and I was able to get lost in the story. I felt like I knew this family. It is such a sweet approach to an important part of Christianity. Prayer is a vital part of our relationship with Jesus. In the back of the book there are discussion questions. So, if you want to get a small group going, the questions are back there for you already. Also there are color photos in the center of the book from the movie making. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Jesus. Also if you enjoyed Fireproof & Courageous you will probably enjoy this one as well. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. A great big thank you to Tyndale house Publishing for my free copy of this book in return for my honest review.
I enjoyed this novel. It is not about a place so much as it is about the people within a place. The Jordan family who consist of husband/wife, Tony and Elizabeth, and their daughter Danielle are the people within the place. The importance of the place, a converted closet, lies within what occurs in that small but significant space and what happens everywhere else as a result.
Elizabeth, is a successful real estate broker. However, she is frazzled and feels frustrated toward her rainmaker salesman husband Tony. She then changes the function of her closet from harboring clothes to having prayer at the suggestion of her new found friend Miss Clara. The war room battles help turn her family from a house divided into a home united.
The conversion doesn't happen overnight. The family still faces challenges. The story has just enough drama to keep a reader wondering how things would turn out. The impetus to keep reading was provided throughout.
Having said that, I admit this isn't a classically well written work. The 'War Room' suffers the inherent limits of a novel based upon a movie. It can only imagine its material so much. As a result, as stories go this isn't a Rolls Royce or even a Cadillac. It's more like a good small car that is kind of fun to drive. Still, it is an uplifting work that is an enjoyable read.
Still, I must give it credit for having introduced Miss Clara who is the latest entry among my literary "Hall of James" favorite fictional characters. This one element takes the story from a 3 star "Jim Dandy" to a 4 star "Jim Dandier" classification.
She is a supporting player but manages to be the glue of the story and drive the plot to its destination. She is the general who led the Jordans into battle to wage war against hell.
Yea, I know that I am late to the "party" because the book and movie were released a few years ago, but right now was the right time for me to dive into War Room. I can openly admit that I was nowhere near being in the correct frame of mind to not only read but to buy into what the book was about when it was released. I was angry at everyone: folks I felt wronged me, myself, and even God.
I kept hearing from folks that either the book or the movie had a very powerful effect on their life so I had very high expectations once I decided to open my copy. I was pulled in at the very beginning when they mentioned the most stressful things in life are moving, divorce and death and those three things are what my life has been about for the last four years. I was drawn in and was intrigued to find out how the story played out. I completely forgot I was reading a work of fiction.
And, see that's the funny thing about how God works. He will find a way to reach you. He knows what is in your heart and what He needs to do to get your attention. War Room definitely got my attention and it held me captive over the past few days because when I was not reading it, I was thinking about it. I was talking about it. I was posting about it. War Room is a life changer. The book alone forces you to look within and see if you are really dealing with the goat in the mirror.
I recommend this book to anyone that is not only interested in developing a closer relationship with God, but if they want to really want to be the best version of their self. War Room through the use of realistic characters and situations made me examine my own life and I must say that my outlook on the power and importance of prayer has changed and my life will never be the same.
My wife and I saw the movie that this novel is based on when it was first released. We enjoyed it so much that I wanted to read the book. I finally got the opportunity and was again blown away by the powerful story of the impact one person can have on others. Chris Fabry has done an excellent job of turning the movie into an exciting book. This moving story of a marriage that was ready for the trash heap stirred me deeply as Miss Clara begins to share with Elizabeth about her prayer life and Elizabeth begins to grasp the principles that Miss Clara is pouring into her life. So often someone touches our life and we sense something special there but we move on and soon forget it. Elizabeth listened and decided she had nothing to lose since she felt at the end of her wits. For most people, they see a new discipline as an all or nothing proposition. From my perspective, Elizabeth seemed to start slowly, testing out what Miss Clara shared. As she saw a bit of light, she was encouraged to go deeper. Before long, she is all in and seeing the true power of prayer. By that point her daughter and her husband have started to notice some changes. Although this is a novel, I believe it accurately portrays the impact that sincere, honest prayer can have in a life, a marriage, a home, and beyond. I encourage you to read this book, whether or not you have seen the movie. You will find it worth your time.
WOW!!!! This is an awesome book, and it should be read by all Christians; plus, those who aren't a Christian could still garner much knowledge & peace from it, if they used the lessons taught within.
I wanted to finish it a lot faster than I did, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. It has made me want to reexamine my own prayer life, and I plan on making me a prayer (war) room soon. Prayer changes things, and I know when I rely on prayer - letting God handle what needs to change - things go a lot smoother in life. It doesn't mean that I don't have struggles, but those struggles are much easier to navigate knowing that God is in ultimate control.
Prayer is my lifeline, and I wouldn't want to even try to make it through life without it. God is my comfort & peace, as I navigate this journey called life. He whispers sweet peace to me in the middle of my storms, and I would never want to try to live my life without Him.
Most people think ‘God helps those who help themselves’ is in the Bible. Listen, God helps those who have come to the end of themselves.
Oh my Lanta, this was a wild ride for me. I was crying for the MCs and the struggles they went through.
At the beginning of the book Elizabeth and Tony are married in the same house but it seems like they are worlds away. One day Elizabeth meets Clara who teaches her about her war room. From there Elizabeth becomes more serious and creates a war room of her own.
I loved this book!!! I can’t wait to sit and watch the movie. I love when Elizabeth takes a stand and fights for her family. I was cheering at that part! There is so much I want to talk about this book but I don’t want to ruin it. I highly recommend it! Excuse me, but I have a war room of my own to start.
A lot of people don’t pray because they don’t believe it works. But unfortunately it doesn’t work because we don’t really pray.”
absolutely love this story! I watched the movie first, and I don't really enjoy reading books that are like reading the movie, but the story is so good that it didn't matter! Prayer is a powerful weapon and it changes lives! I love all the personal aspects of this story, and well as the miracles and real life application! thank you Jesus for stories like these! I love you and praise you for turning peoples lives around! this book definitely encouraged me to focus on discipling people, not by advertising Jesus but by living it out! God is good!
This is one of my favorite movies. This is my 2nd time reading this book. But this time I did the audio version. I didn't care for the author reading. But it was still good. I realized that I missed things when I read the actual as I listened. This book shows the power of prayer.
I am a prayer warrior! (Love that phrase). I enjoyed reading the book before seeing the movie. Made me cry a couple different times. Beautiful story of the power of prayer and the Savior's Atonement.
- Prayer, at its most basic level, was surrender. -p.22 - Prayer was talking and listening and being excited to spend time with someone who loves you. (pg. 43) - Take pride in yourself and in the job you do. Take your time and take pride in how this yard looks when you walk away from it. (Pg. 44) - Whatever you do, do it to the the glory of God. Whatever you put your hand to- do it with all your heart. (pg. 45) - Either we truly seek Him, or we don't (p. 50) - Idea to commemorate answered prayers with photos/journal entries/names on bulletin board or in a binder/journal - Life was best at the point of surrender. It was there that she saw God do His special work. (p. 80) - The power she had was available to all (p.123) - You can pray arrow prayers that get to the heart of what that other person is going through. (p.135) - Grace=Freedom (p. 144); there's not room for both you and God on the throne of your heart. It's either Him or you. You need to step down. If you want victory, you're gonna have to first surrender. - turn your focus to the real enemy (p. 145) - Ask God to show you the truth about yourself (p. 152) - Alone in that closet, in that war room, her heart overflowed and she let the fountain spill at the feet of God himself (p.157) - Knowing the truth about your life is always better to know, even if it hurts. Knowing the truth is better than living in the dark. (p.160) - She was getting out of the way and letting God take control. No longer would she let the enemy rule her. No longer would she be ruled by fear or by the actions of anyone else! (p. 164) - Part of being a good parent was knowing when to say something and what to say. The HARDEST part of parenting was knowing when to say nothing and listen. (p. 175) - Help me focus on the things I can see You doing instead of the things I can't see (p. 187) - I've never seen a man "wake up" who hasn't gone through something hard (p.189) - God is not interested in making me comfortable or happy. His goal is to make me holy, like His Son. And I've never met a follower of Jesus who hasn't encountered some suffering and pain. (p.218) - The bad times are really the good times in disguise (p. 219) - All I know is, you can fight against your wife, and probably hold your own, but if God is fighting for her, you can hit the gym all you want to, but it's not looking too good for you. (p.231) - Their life wasn't about money and nice things and a beautiful house. It was about relationships. It was about showing and receiving love. He had missed that truth. (p.237) - It all came down to trust. In the end she had the choice to trust or not to trust. It was a decision totally in her power. And ultimately that trust was a reflection of what she believed about God (p. 267) - It's hard and messy. You will find out things about yourself that you don't want to discover. You will find out things about your own heart that you don't want to change. You see, everybody wants to make the problems in their life the fault of somebody else. (p. 267) - C.S. Lewis The Four Loves: To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give you heart to no one (p. 269) - The truth was, God had done in a few weeks what she had tried to do for sixteen years (p. 291) - God helps those who have come to the end of themselves (p.303) - The way to drown out the negative voices is to wash yourself with Truth (p. 306) - Even in the middle of the questions and doubt and pain, God could use her to maybe plant a seed in someone's heart. She thought she had to get everything neat and tidy in her life in order to be used by God (p. 310) - You have unlimited potential. You can do anything you set your mind to. You'll never get there though by trying NOT to make a mistake. You can't perform at your highest level by focusing on the things you DONT want to do (p.313) - Every member of the team shares an equal part in the outcome (p. 314) - A person who is happy about what they're doing attracts attention because we all want to live that way (p.315) - Giving thanks in every circumstance meant saying to God that she was willing to look at things from His perspective (p. 324) - He listened but he's just not ready to hear...breaking through people's hearts is not your job. That's God's business. (p.334) - You can tear down a wall with a bulldozer but it's usually better to go brick by brick (p. 342) - Sometimes a miracle looks like a tire change (p. 345) - She wanted to bottle this feeling up and keep it around to pour out every now and then (p. 358) - Raise up warriors who will fight on their knees (p. 395) - When you write that down, don't you leave out Jesus. People are always leaving Jesus out. That's one of the reasons we're in the mess we're in (p. 402)
This is a novelization of the Kendrick brothers’ screenplay, yet Fabry has included so much meaningful spiritual content that it is difficult to remain unchanged after reading this book. The characters and their situations are so incredibly realistic that readers will be able to examine their own lives in the mirror of the characters. A fantastic story of the meaning and power of prayer. Miss Clara, an elderly widowed prayer warrior, has finally been convinced it is time to move in with her son and his family. Clara hires Elizabeth, a realtor, to sell her home. As Clara and Elizabeth get to know each other, Clara impresses upon Elizabeth the need for prayer and surrender to God in all aspects of her life. Elizabeth and Tony’s marriage is rocky and their relationship with their daughter is suffering as well. As different people begin to truly pray, change starts to happen. https://www.rtbookreviews.com/book-re...
Poderoso y emotivo libro que te llega al corazón. Mucho mejor que la película. Si después de leerlo tu vida de oración no cambia, no sé qué cosa puede hacerlo. Lo recomiendo mucho.
Tony And Elizabeth had always thought they were living a perfect life. They were happily married with a beautiful daughter named Danielle. Danielle was a good student and would always get A's in every class except for her current report card where she got a "C" in a class. She tells her mom and her mom tells Tony. Tony is a little upset, but more and more problems occur when Tony finds out that Elizabeth moves money from their saving account into her checking account. You have to read the book to find out what happens next. I really liked this book because of the characters and the whole plot of the movie. I like its strong powerful message it has to offer on how prayer is power and how it changes people's lives. I think a lot of people should read this book because it not only gives you a theme, but there's a bit of humor in this book.

I didn’t know I needed to read this book until I picked it up. It’s true that prayer is a powerful weapon, but this book provides you a clearer understanding of it through the characters' development, choices and personalities. I liked how Chris Fabry took the screenplay and turned it into an interesting piece, because the movie was good but the novelization was better. If you’re a Christian, you should read this one for it will challenge you to evaluate your prayer life.
I absolutely love this book. This is one of those rare books that has not only changed the way that I think, it has also changed my soul and my heart. I can not wait to see the movie and to start on my war room.
My aunt recommended the movie to me before her passing. I decided to read the book first and was in awe. Lots of highlights and spiritual takeaways! The characters felt relatable. The storyline also shows that faith and prayer aren’t designed to change others but to draw you closer to God to be transformed.
