This is the very first Pete the Kitty I Can Read favorite from New York Times bestselling Pete the Cat author-artist James Dean!
Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name.
James Dean is the original creator and illustrator of Pete the Cat. He is a self-taught artist originally from Fort Payne, Alabama. His passion for drawing became apparent at a young age, and as a child, you could find James drawing his favorite characters like Snoopy and Yogi Bear.
James earned his degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and went on to work for Georgia Power for a number of years. Eventually, he was called to pursue his art full- time and began selling his work at art festivals around the Southeast. It was during this time that he began creating paintings and drawing of his cat, Pete. The little blue cat showed up as a character in James’s artwork around 1999 and has been a permanent fixture ever since.
James Dean’s art has been sold in more than ninety galleries and shops across the United States. He has devoted his paintings to Pete the Cat for fifteen years and turned his natural love for cats into his life’s work. James published his first book, The Misadventures of Pete the Cat, a history of his artwork, in 2006, and he illustrated his first self-published children’s book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, in 2008. There are now almost 100 published Pete the Cat titles with more coming out all the time. James is humbled every day by the success that this groovy blue cat has brought him. He says positively affecting children’s lives is his number one priority, and he is grateful to have such an amazing audience to work for.
Read for my toddler’s bedtime. Pete the cat has a hiccup. He asked many of his friends on how to get rid of it. His friends told him to stand on one foot, sing, hop up and down, etc but finally he went and asked his mom.
This story is told when Pete the Cat was a kitty, and tried everything he could to relieve himself of the hiccups. None of his friend's remedies worked.
This a fun book to read out loud to a toddler. It is repetitive and it's fairly easy act out the plot. Also, I love that the book ends with "Moms are so smart."
Adorable, simple, perfect for little kids. The best part, the advice that works to get rid of the hiccups is in reality the main one that works (though it doesn't always, the concept is about relaxing your diaphragm). Anyway. I love the illustrations, the text is simple. A perfect read for kids just getting into reading.
Pete the cat is always a winner including this one. I love Pete and I'm sure your new reader will love Pete the Kitty, too. I highly recommend this cat book for the 4-8 year olds and anyone needing a shared reading experience. Hiccup! Pete the cat has the Hiccups. Hiccup! How do you get rid of hiccups? Hiccup! He wondered? Hiccup! Pete asked Callie. Hiccup! You stand on one foot and jump and down. Hiccup! Does Pete keep his hiccups? Hiccup! Hiccup!
Pete the kitty and the case of the hiccups is a funny story. My little reader had a fun time reading it, he reread the story. The vocabulary is appropriate for a beginner reader and it’s easy to o read to encourage little readers. My little reader had only but a few hiccups on some words 😂. I recommend This book for little readers as they will definitely be encouraged to continue reading.
I thought this book was a great choice for beginning readers. It had humor, but it also has simple ideas and words that will best fit beginning readers. He asks many of his friends for remedies, but none of them seemed to help. I believe that the students will have fun reading and learning the different remedies throughout the book. Great addition to a classroom bookshelf!
"Pete the Kitty and the Case of the Hiccups" is a delightful children's book that follows Pete the Cat's adorable adventures as he tries to solve the mystery of his persistent hiccups. With charming illustrations and a fun storyline, it's a heartwarming read that kids will enjoy, perfect for giggles and bedtime stories.
Pete the Kitty has the hiccups. How do you cure them? He asks three friends and his big brother Bob, who give increasingly elaborate wrong answers. Then Bob sends him to Mom, who knows the right answer. Moms are smart! My 2-year-old likes it. Because of the message, she should make her mom read it instead of me, though.
I like Pete the Cat, so I was excited about the idea of Pete as a kitty. I think this book was fine, and I think kids will like it- but it just didn't "do it" for me as the original books did. Also, everyone knows the only way to get hiccups to go away is by swallowing a lump of peanut butter.
My kids (and I) were very excited to read our first Pete the Kitty. We are big fans of Pete the Cat. My 1st grader really loved reading it out loud to her siblings.
I would give this a 4 star. For some reason the stars were in red and not working. This is a fun book with great pictures to read to kids who enjoy being red to. I love Pete the Cat Stories:)
a good series for children learning to read My granddaughter read it with a little help and encouragement from me. She like the whole Pete the Kitty and Pete the Cat series. Thankfully, many are on Kindle Unlimited, because for a 15-minute read, buying the physical books would be too expensive.
This book is so cute! The pictures are very colorful and are entwined with the words in the story. I love the repetition of words and actions that helps kids learn the words easily. Very good read with my little one
This book is about Pete having hiccups and he went to ask his friends but none of them worked so at the end Pete asked his mom and when Pete does what his mom said it worked and at the end it said that moms are so smart.
I read this to Julianna while we wait to see her 1st pediatric eye visit dr. appt. She gives this book 5 stars. We love the Pete the Kitty and she enjoyed this cute short book. Anither cute library find :-)
Pete the cat has the hiccups, and his friends and family all offer advice. This was one of my son's favorite books when he was younger. Its entertaining, easy to relate to, and young kids feel like they can participate in the book with the "hiccup" if you read this book often.
There is so much to love about cute Pete the Kitty. This book has the potential to be very interactive. Each friend gives Pete advise on how to get rid of his hiccups from jumping, singing, and standing on one foot.
