Doyle is an ex-special forces operator SAS who has worked with SEAL teams and DELTA FORCE. The government of the day has asked Lord Jack Turner to head up a new department, code named SF02. It is a covert unit that is deniable and will be used to bring down enemies of the state. Turner has to put the unit together and isn't sure that his friend and force protector Mel Doyle is right for this department. He decides to look at Doyle's past before making his decision. From Doyles first breath in this world up to this point Turner looks at every folder in his personal file. He follows him every step of the way from school days to joining the army and being badged in the SAS. Turner is transported to every corner of the earth in which Doyle has served and taken on every operation that he has fought in. From Ireland to Kosovo, Africa and the Gulf war every firefight is recorded so vividly that Turner believes he is there on the mission with him. Turner, in going through the files in detail begins to understand the man far better than he did before. So much so that although he has known the man for over ten years, he recognises that he doesn't really know Doyle at all. He also comes to realise that he himself may not be the man he thought he was. In starting out wondering whether Doyle was the right man for this department he is left thinking maybe it his him who needs to think through his own position. In Turner's eyes Doyle is a hero who has worked with the best elite forces in the world but their is a problem. Doyle has been disavowed and he needs to find the reason why.
