Archpriest Gordon T. Walker served God for his entire life, from his childhood as a Baptist in Alabama through years as a Protestant pastor and finally, after decades of searching for the true Church, as an Orthodox priest. One of the founding leaders of the former Evangelical Orthodox Church, Fr. Gordon had a special heart for youth and founded Grace Ministries to facilitate serving them. In the course of his ministry, he touched hundreds of lives with the boundless love and grace of God. This memoir, compiled and edited after his repose by his brother Philip Walker, reveals the servant heart of a dedicated man of God.
The faith and drive of Father Gordon Walker comes through so beautifully in this lovely autobiography. He was once in our home many years ago and his presence then reflected the stories and tone of this sweet book. Memory Eternal!
Incredible book, especially if you are seeking the orthodox faith. Read it in one day, a riveting story. I had no idea how much of American orthodoxy was influenced by Gordon’s journey in the 80s, such as the origin for Ancient Faith Publishing or the Orthodox Study Bible.
I wish the book had gone into the transition between Protestantism and orthodoxy more, like how the EOC came to accept icons, veneration of saints and Mary, and other Orthodox traditions that aren’t mentioned clearly in the Bible. Otherwise, this book was well written, an easy read, and very insightful into the orthodox faith in America and the story of a Baptist conversion to Orthodox.
An incredible story of faith, love, and Fr. Gordon’s journey to the Orthodox Church. It’s one thing to have heard about the journey of the EOC into Orthodoxy and it’s another to read it from Fr. Gordon’s view. What an amazing journey to have taken. If you enjoyed Fr. Peter Gillquist’s Becoming Orthodox, you’ll enjoy Led by His Love.
