Numerical Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow

Rate this book
Numerical Heat Transfer And Fluid Flow primarily uses elementary calculus and simple algebra in exploring and developing numerical procedures to predict the behavior of various processes. This is mainly based on physical considerations. The approach is tailored to help augment a deeper understanding of all the crucial aspects of heat transfer and fluid flow. The exercises explored through the text are specifically aimed at improving the ability to analyze and interpret the data and the final computed results. The book is divided into nine chapters that follow the entire paraphernalia surrounding the processes and the features of heat transfer and fluid flow with a mathematical focus in mind. The first chapter is the Introduction and from then on the book moves on to a Mathematical Description of Physical Phenomena. These chapters include topics like Chemical Reactions, Mass Transfer, Heat and Fluid Flow among other processes. In the next chapter, the author develops discretization methods and then explores Heat Conduction. The fifth chapter then looks at the processes of Convection and Diffusion. He then moves on to Calculating Flow Field and all of this converges to the seventh chapter titled Finishing Touches. Hereafter, Patankar explores the special topics that involve Numerical Heat Transfer And Fluid Flow and then finally closes the discussion of content intimate to the matter by allowing for a complete chapter on Illustrative Applications. The book closes with the Nomenclature that is used through the book and then the author presents all the references and an index. This book has been developed as part of the series on computational methods in mechanics and thermal science. The book was published in 1980 and was considered a seminal contribution to computational fluid dynamics.

Patankar's book is very very old. his descriptions of the algorithms is hard to understand because he did the original work in this field. a much clearer explanation is found in versteeg and malalasakera with better examples
