Gary Burns has been kidnapped, thrown in a dungeon, and tortured for information. Worst of all, he’s been separated from his friends, so no one even knows where to look for him. Cut off from his support network, Gary uses the only tools at his disposal: a silver tongue and an insider’s knowledge of the game world that’s second to none.
With a makeshift party of former foes, Gary must not only escape his captor but plan for payback. Because nothing passes the time in a dank, lightless prison cell like plotting revenge. And when your adversary is a centuries-old lich with the might of an army at his disposal, death is a starting point, not a victory.

So while this was a great story, the Main Character Gary is starting to get on my nerves. He did have a messed up thing happen to him, but at the same time he's starting to become more and more of a dick. He act's like those DM's that believe that they are all high and powerful and that all the players are such idiots and it's getting annoying. The one thing I am glad about is the fact that the players in the game are slowly chopping him off at the knees. He's been in the process of being put in his place, but it really needs to happy more often than it does. He's quite lucky that the people he's been playing with are half as nice as they are due to him "forgetting" things that could quite literally cost them all their lives. As it stands, his "brilliant" ideas has already cost him once......dearly, and he STILL acts like a huge dick. As it stands, I'll read the 3rd book, because I hope this is just a minor thing for Gary, but if it's not and he doesn't get better in the next installment, I can see myself dropping the rest of the series.
This book was awesome. I loved how the series continued in this book. Also love how all the characters start "waking". Zitto though is probably my favorite halfling. He is a hard core assassin/thief. But still has time to go for food.
Plot moves quickly. Some books these days seem to fill up 200 pages of minutiae just to sell more ... maintain quality writing please. Have read too many “only first 100 pages” trilogies + book sets
Much better than the first book in the series, this book has a coherent and fun plot, the characters are much more interesting with actual arcs, and the world is much better developed.
A great continuation to a good series. As I've read all three books at this time, I don't quite recall what is in this book and the other two, but the series as a whole is great.
Nobody is likeable. The plot twists are forced. Main character is really dumb. If I hadn't bought the novels as a three pack I wouldn't read the third one.
Solid continuation from the first book. Has the same strengths (fun idea, fast plot, entertaining) and weaknesses (kinda forgettable, no MC is that interesting). So I keep it at 3 stars.
