A highly divisive series that forced me to get over many of my peeves, but one that was worth it all! I simply loved this!

Let me start off on why many readers would be instantly put off when starting this…

This is a translated novel, and so comes with a heavy baggage of peeves that struck me quite hard when I started this series. Though the translation captures the content well, it does not flow smoothly in English. The dialogue is stilted and often the emotions behind the dialogue wasn’t translated. So at times, I was unsure on whether the dialogue was spoken in anger or respect or sarcasm. In many occasions, it felt very abrupt both at the start and at the end of the dialogue making it hard to establish a confluence between the dialogue, the context and the prose. I believe the cause is that the translation is more literal rather than qualitative.

Then we have the modern westernization that permeates the prose which does not gel well with the Chinese themed setting. You get characters named Brad and Dillon fighting over the town of Wushan, the mix of Chinese customs with modern swear words (“you can all f*ck off” and people calling each other “bros”) creating a very dissonant world building that neither captures the majesty of ancient China nor the modernity of current civilization. It’s made for a very uncoordinated and awkward read, that I personally found it hard to get over with.

Here’s why I highly recommend you turn your peeve filter off and get past the above:

It’s Progression Fantasy at it’s finest! If you love a overpowered MC who starts off as underdog and smashes his way to the peak in a very Goku (Dragonball Z) kind of way, this should me a must read. The progression is literally non-stop and to capture a phrase from the book itself, when you climb a mountain all you see are higher mountains. I simply have not read a book that has so many vertical and horizontal levels of progressions as this. Every time, I see a peak climbed, a level attained and expect the book the taper off, it threw me into a loop and kept my expectations completely smashed as the progression continued full steam!

The book is quite epic in scope, in cast and in progression. The worldbuilding just keeps expanding and more and more powerful casts kept appearing all through 8 books till the last great finale, which let me completely pleased. Considering the sweeping scope, it was near impossible to maintain a flow of character development for supporting cast and it does show in the series, but overall a admirable job in keeping them together. The main cast is more or less constant through the books making it a easy read to follow through the progression.

The timeline progression takes some getting used to. The progression happens over millions of years or so. For example, You can get instances of MC meditating for a couple of centuries before making a breakthrough. It really forced me to reassess my preconceptions on timeline progression as most of the characters are near immortal. A very unique concept that I loved (after taking some time to get used to it)

The magic system and power progression is solid. The transition in power up is smooth and the power progression blends in smoothly with the character progression. There is a structure to the plot progress that we see happen cyclically, but the world and setting change keeps things fresh all through. New world, new monsters, new people, new magics, yet the underlying consistency is maintained making it one progression novel rather than a set of staggered books.

The MC has a lot of plot armor all through. He gets the right breaks, gets lucky at the right instances, people turn up giving him what he needs at the right occasions etc. For many, this would be a turn down, but I loved it because it was a happy fun read. There enough plot tension to keep you turning the pages, but we soon realize this would be a Happily Ever After book rather than one that drags you through moral grey traumatizing events.

To conclude, it’s a flawed book, but one which bought out the simply joy of power progression in me. Has shades Dragonball Z and Hunter x Hunter running through which I thoroughly loved.

I hope you pick this up, get past the flaws and enjoy yourself!

This whole series really does feel like a shounen manga in book form. It's a neverending game of leveling up. Just when you think Linley's hit the peak, stronger characters appear and completely changes the playing field. This book felt like the author was wrapping up some things on the Yulan continent before Linley moves on to bigger and better things.

The story continues to be very fast-paced and action packed, and even though I knew exactly what to expect, it was still a fun read and I had a hard time putting down the book.

**Warning: Spoilers Ahead**

This book starts out with Linley and co finally entering the Necropolis of the Gods! Unfortunately it's the toughest version of it, and the opponents inside are crazy powerful and hard to fight against even for Saint level experts. Luckily Linley is able to make some breakthroughs and walks away from the Necropolis with plenty of divine sparks and divine weapons to give out.

We also learn of Bebe's past and his true nature, which is the Godeater Rat (could the name be any more revealing about his abilities?). I'm so glad they finally explained his origins and how he came to be in the Baruch manor where Linley found him.

Upon leaving the Necropolis, Linley finally gets his sweet revenge against the Radiant Church. Honestly, by this point I had already started to forget about them, since Linley has become so OP after the Necropolis that taking care of the last remaining Church members isn't a big deal. Plus the empires of the Yulan continent are getting consolidated into just three empires: the Yulan kingdom, the O'Brien empire, and the Baruch empire. So taking down the church fits right into that plan. It's crazy how at this point, Linley is already sort of considered on par with the War God and the High Priest.

Just when we think Linley is already peaking, Olivier accidentally releases a bunch of experts from the Gebados Planar Prison, and next thing you know, there are deities and gods and even some high gods roaming around everything on the Yulan continent. So even though Linley is so strong and broke through to Deity level, he's considered 'weak' relative to this new set of characters. Time for him to level up some more now XP

I'm not going to go into all the details, but with some help from a peak level highgod called Leylin, Linley gets a lot of insight into the best strategy to proceed and breaks through into Deity on the earth side as well. Now he has two divine sparks and two divine clone bodies! In the process, we also learn more about the Coiling Dragon ring, which is a Sovereign level soul protecting artifact, which though unfortunately damaged still saves Linley's butt on a number of occasions from strong soul attacks.

Of course, he has multiple powerful enemies who are all trying to take him down, but either through his own power or with some help from powerful allies, he's able to survive each fight and become stronger for it. Plus now he has so many deity and god level divine sparks that it feels like Christmas all the time XP

Now onwards to the Infernal Realms! They've been talking up the Ancestral Baptism of the Four Divine Beast Clans so much that I'm super excited to see how much more powerful Linley will become after completing it.

Once more a great and amazing book in the coiling dragon Saga.

This time it's not about saints. It's about Semigods, Gods and Highgods. It's all about the way each step up in the ladder can repress the lower one by activating their godrealm, and ways around it.

It's also about changing the focus from strength that the previous books had to spiritual attacks, and from getting insights into laws to merging laws.

I really enjoyed the way a mentor he gets guides him without really doing much, only by hinting, mostly.

In terms of enjoyment, this would definitely be a five-star read. I’ll have to knock off a star because of several factors. I can’t put books like this one down, in spite of their flaws. If you’re a fan of shonen anime, you’ll probably love this series. At the same time, it can be hard to get used to due to the fact that it was translated from Chinese into English. This isn’t anyone’s fault, really, just an inevitable consequence of some phrases working in one language and not another.

Highly enjoyable

Once again I delved into the world of coiling dragon, and it was once again highly enjoyable. A fantastic main character, and a great plot, and I especially like that the main character doesn’t suddenly fall into convoluted plans or make a new enemy every five chapters LOL. The story is consistently high-quality, with an amazing set of characters.

A good addition to the series.

Overall the book was good with lots of action and advancement of the story line. The pacing was good and the characters are continuing to develop their power and skills as the power of the opposition continues to ramp up in power.

Really enjoyed the book but I believe it is getting beyond where it should have gone. I do like the writing and still enjoy reading I am just slowly losing interest due to the levels of the characters and the progression of the storyline.

It’s still good but has become kind of repetitive and formulaic. Maybe it’s because I’m reading them pretty much back to back, will try and intersperse with other books.

This is probably my favorite book in the series. The Necropolis of the Gods is such a cool environment. The challenges are really interesting and I love the progression that helps with the characters.
