Dr. Dana Perkins, school principal and psychologist, came to Shutter Lake several years ago following a tragic school shooting in Phoenix. She wanted a saf place, a peaceful place and so far that is what Shutter Lake has been for her. Until now .........

One of her students, Vinn Bradshaw, has confessed to killing Sylvia Cole, owner of a housekeeping business. Dana is absolutely certain that Vinn did not commit this horrible crime.. but why would he confess to something he did not do?

As Dana sets out to learn the truth, why she finds is that Sylvia was not the person she thought she was. Sylvia was the keeper of secrets, and many people had a motive to kill her.

Seeking the truth shatters Dana’s safety. Yet who could have predicted proving Vinn innocent would jeopardize her friends and neighbors . . . and expose so many secrets?

There are four leading female characters in this series. SO MANY SECRETS is the 2nd following HER DEEPEST FEAR both by Vicki Hinze. The next is JUST ONE LOOK followed by ALL THE SINS written by Peggy Webb. Regan Black follows to the ending with TRUST NO ONE and then WHAT SHE KNEW.

SO MANY SECRETS ties up some loose ends, but not quite all. The story continues with the next book in the series.

Normally, I don't like reading one part of a series and then having to wait months for the next one. In this case, it's mostly waiting a week ... I can handle that easily .. especially when it's well written with non-stop suspense.

The story premise is a good one, with a solid leading character and credible secondary characters. This is a well written page turner. I highly recommend starting with the first book and reading in order.

Very repetitive throughout the book and the ending was simply resolving what shouldn't have happened in book #1, so the reader is basically right back where they started with the exception of gaining a couple of people's secrets.

There were way too many discussions on food that it really felt like filler. In fact, I think food may have been discussed more than the murder was investigated. I really had to skim through a lot of filler and repetition.

The town is now turning into a cliche Payton Place.

Four Strong leading female characters, four different points of view to the murder in a small town and to the secrets revealed while solving the case, the Breakdown series is written by four suspense authors and introduces a new kind of serial novel type of series, each book with a new leading lady, published only a week apart from each other.
Dr. Dana Perkins is an intriguing woman. She is a strong leader of the community, her students adore her, respect her, and look up to her. She has the aura of cool, calm, and confidence, yet she too carries deep wounds from her past. The school shooting that she survived yet lost several of her young students in, has left a permanent mark on her mind and soul. That insight into the drama victim's troubled mind was heartbreaking, yet so realistic.
Dana is determined to find the answers behind the recent murder in the small town. She has no doubt that her bright and brilliant student who confessed didn't do it and she is willing to go to great lengths to find the truth, to find the real killer amongst them.
The more Dana digs into the past of the people who seemed to be involved with the case, the more secrets are revealed, more of the dark, not so pretty underbelly of the Shutter Lake community comes to light.
A mysterious and intriguing story of a small town, of the people and the secrets that lie within it, and the dynamics and characteristics of the community that comes to light when one of them is killed and another one of them confessed to the killing. While an arresting murder mystery, it is also a story about loyalty, hope, and the courage to face the truth. An interesting addition to the serial novel that is to be continued next week.

AND the story to continues...

I’m hooked and intrigued. Plus I am bamboozled, I don’t know who the killer is. Such a great series, very cool how each author focuses on one chapter. Strong, bright women! Love it. Onto the next!

Dr. Dana Perkins came to the peaceful town of Shutter Lake to heal from a horrendous experience in Phoenix, an experience that shook her to her very soul. As the principal at Shutter Lake School she is determined to keep her children safe, after all, that's what a teacher is supposed to do, right? In her search for the truth, Dana unveils secrets that will put her and those around her right into the middle of danger and expose the fact that Shutter Lake is a town full of secrets.

This fast paced, page turning mystery is the second in the new 4 book min-series BREAKDOWN.
Vickie adds her own flavor to this exciting new mini series with her book that is distinctly hew own voice as she tells a passionate story of searching for the truth.

I have heard about Vicky Hinze’s books before but have not read any of them previous to this one. After reading So Many Secrets, I can now understand why she has been recommended to me.
So Many Secrets, the second installment of the Breakdown series is an excellent read. Once again, a reader visits Shutter Lake and meet Dana Perkins. Her story will keep readers on the edge of their seat.
I give So Many Secrets five stars
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

The Breakdown Series is a 4-part suspense series by 4 different authors, each focusing on a different leading woman whose job has the necessary connections to help in finding the truth behind the murder of one of their own. Each woman has a powerful job that gives them an edge with information and secrets hidden in this quaint community. As a cop, school principal/psychologist, an investigative reporter, and a doctor they each have a skill set that can contribute to solving the crime and bringing a killer to justice.

This 4-part series is an awesome read. The stories flow seamlessly from one book to the next to where you cannot even tell they are written by 4 different authors. They fit together that well.

The second book in the series, So Many Secrets by Vicki Hinze highlights Dana Perkins, the school principal and psychologist. Dana Perkins was an elementary school teacher in Phoenix but after a tragic incident involving her kids, moved to the quiet, small community of Shutter Lake and has loved living in this friendly little town for the last 7 years. Her job at the high school, as principal and psychologist, keeps her happy and fulfilled. She is deeply involved with all the children’s welfare and mental health and always lets them know she is there for them and how special they are. She still holds herself partly responsible for past events and she is determined to do whatever it takes to be there for the kids. She has no idea how much of an impact she has had on all their lives and how much she means to them until one of her students confesses to a murder. She knows with every fiber of her being that this young, bright student had nothing to do with Sylvia Cole’s death but she cannot help but wonder what she missed? Where there signs there that she should have seen to know it would come to this? What did she miss? She truly believed in his innocence and she was going to do everything in her power to find the truth and prove it to everyone. Determined, she starts brainstorming with all the information she knows on the case and decides to do her own investigation, digging into the lives of those in question and asking more questions and looking for the little nuances in behavior that a psychologist would recognize. The more questions she asks and deeper she digs, more shocking secrets are revealed as more lies and deceptions are brought forth about the seemingly quaint community of Shutter Lake.

The more you read the more intriguing the stories are. The characters are complex and each new book adds a new level of depth to the overall series. There are so many questions to be answered and it is just impossible to tell who the killer is. This is a wonderful suspense series that definitely keeps you guessing. I cannot wait to find out what new information will be revealed in the next book!

The series includes – The Dead Girl by Debra Webb, So Many Secrets by Vicki Hinze, All the Lies by Peggy Webb and What She Knew by Regan Black. You will want to read each book in the series in order.

The saga of Shutter Lake continues in Book #2 of the Breakdown series. I was so happy to see a new book by Vicki Hinze, one of my favorite authors. She demonstrates her skill in telling a mystery and absorbing the reader in this dark tale of a town with many secrets. This book focuses on Dr. Dana Perkins, the principal of the local school. Like Laney, the deputy sheriff in the town, Dana has secrets that haunt her. She has been doing an excellent job of leading the students in the small town. Chosen for her skill as a psychologist as well as a school administrator, Dana is faced with one of her students confessing to the murder of entrepreneur Sylvia Cole. Vinn Bradshaw is a promising young man who has never done anything wrong, a teen who is more of a nerd or geek than a jock. When he confesses to the murder, Dana is determined to help find the real killer so that Vinn can be released. The tension is absorbing in this second book and will keep the reader guessing who the real killer is and desiring to know the secrets that Dana has been hiding from everyone in the town. The books of the series flow easily from one to the next, so you will hardly know that they are by different authors. It is astounding how well they are all written! This series will appeal to the readers of each individual author as well as anyone who enjoys good thriller/suspense.

Two stars

Not a book I enjoyed reading. I intend to finish the series and give a review to clarify why this was disappointing. Seemed to have a lot of rhetoric that I found so so. A genre I always love to read that is condensed into one book. To have the unattractive from several characters is different but not my style.

First book in series was interesting plot and characters. Enough twists and turns and likable lead characters. Second book ridiculous premise that a school principle would so dominate a community or school. Couldn’t believe it ended with nothing happening in the development of the plot. And no other characters were developed.

Very slow lots of repeating

I like the story line, however it seems to take forever to move on to something else. I am going to continue reading each book in series as I enjoy the theme.

My overview of the entire series is one of fascination, as I cannot fathom how four different authors can put together one story in four different parts like this. I know authors have enjoyed doing collaborations such as these, but to now I have mostly seen only romance series where each author takes on a different character and his/her relationship. They build a bit on the previous stories. But to do a murder suspense series requires an entirely different kind of outlining and mapping to be successful.

Each book is told from a different point-of-view of one of four female friends, though you get a few peeks into the worlds of others as well. Each of these people have moved to Shutter Lake, hoping to find some peace from a traumatic past. And then the unthinkable happens, setting them and the entire town on edge. Secrets are around every corner. You would think that in a small town, everyone would know everyone else's business and secrets would be difficult to maintain, but not the case here. The more they know, the less they know. It's intriguing to read through and uncover the secrets along with the characters.

And even if you think you know what all of the secrets are or who did what, you don't really know. The innocent victim isn't as innocent as one would like to think. Twists and turns are obstacles down many of the paths and will keep you bumping the pages forward as quickly as you can through all four of these books. I think it would make for a great miniseries.

My review of this particular title:

I admire Dana, because she will do anything for her students, and I was the same way when I was still directly involved in education. It helps that she is friends with Laney, who is currently heading up the investigation into Sylvia's murder. She keeps on digging for more information, because she wants the real killer brought to justice as soon as possible. In the meantime, she is still healing from her own traumatic nightmare of a past, one that would keep me up all night every night if it were also mine.

More secrets get revealed, and the tangled web that has been woven over the years gets even more intricate that anyone ever realized. Every time you solve one mystery, about five more crop up in its place. And the story has international consequences.

This one read even faster than the first book. Part of it was because the plot picked up pace as more of the secrets were being revealed. But also the writing style had a lot of well-done dialogue that made it read like I was watching a movie or a TV show, and that helped me zip through it. Again, finishing this one had me flipping immediately to the third book, to find out where the story was going to go next. 4.5 stars!

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book picks up where book one left off, and this time the female protagonist is Dr. Dana Perkins, the Shutter Lake school principal and psychologist. One of her students has confessed to the murder of Sylvia Cole, who was found dead at the beginning of book one, and Dana doesn’t believe for a moment that he’s possibly guilty. So why is he confessing?

Book two delves deeper into Sylvia Cole’s life and the secrets she was keeping from – and about – everyone. It seems Sylvia had a darker side, a side not many people knew about, and the more Dana and her friends, including Deputy Police Chief Laney Holt, delve into Sylvia’s life, the more suspects for her murder they find.

Some of these secrets come to light in book two, but you’re still left with plenty of questions that need answers. There was a really interesting sub-plot involving Dana’s friends with the young, hot mayor of Shutter Lake, Thomas Jessup. My little romantic heart was hoping for some action between the two, but alas. It turns out that the good Mayor has been hiding a rather big secret of his own, which Dana figures out with the help of her friends.

Dana is understandably stressed; one of her students, of whom she’s very protective (and with good reason, as you find out why Dana moved to Shutter Lake in the first place) is in jail for murder; her friend has been hiding a secret she uncovers; and yet another secret about one of her teachers comes out, which requires her to take immediate and swift action.

One thing I did notice in this book (and I had noticed it in book one, but to a lesser extent) is that some of dialogue between characters who are supposed to be long standing friends was somewhat stilted, bordering on rude. They felt like strangers conversing, rather than friends. But it certainly wasn’t enough to throw me from another good instalment in this series. I have my theories about who the killer is (I have two possible suspects in mind) and am interested to see if I’m proved right in book four!

Sylvia Cole is dead, and the small, idyllic town of Shutter Lake is in turmoil. This episode focuses on Shutter Lake School’s principal Dr. Dana Perkins and the town’s mayor Thomas Jessup. Some secrets are revealed which could potentially tear families apart, and Dana is desperate to protect her students. While looking into some of the circumstances surrounding Sylvia’s murder, she uncovers despicable acts which force her to take decisive action, leaving the school in an uproar.

As the investigation into Sylvia’s murder progresses, we learn that she wasn’t the best person everyone believed her to be and more about a possible motive. Her brand of “cooperative assistance” touched many prominent town members, including the mayor’s office. Even as the suspect pool broadens, we start eliminating suspects; hoping the murderer is someone we want it to be and not someone we don’t. While the plot thickens, and more secrets are revealed, are we any closer to solving the crime or will we continue to wonder which of the upstanding citizens in this peaceful town is capable of cold-blooded murder? At this point, at least for me, there are still too many possibilities.

As with the first riveting episode, this ongoing tale of murder and mystery continues to hold your attention and keeps you balancing on the edge of your seat. This story is also fast paced and has you guessing who the possible perpetrator could be. Although we learn some secrets, we’re left knowing there’s more yet to be revealed in this challenging who done it as we follow the account of the murder of Sylvia Cole. Stay tuned, you won’t be sorry!

This is the second book in the Breakdown series. Dr. Dana Perkins, a teacher and psychologist, came to Shutter Lake to heal from a tragic incident involving her students in Phoenix. Now one of the towns prominent citizens and business owners is found dead, and one of her students has confessed to the murder. In this book in the series, Dana is trying to prove that her student did not commit this crime and in the process, is uncovering some of the darkest secrets that some of the residents of the idyllic town are trying to keep hidden. This is a fast page turner that continues the story from the first book in the series, The Dead Girl. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

I was so intrigued by this concept when I first heard about it, and it is definitely living up to my expectations! I liked this story from Dana's point of view. There was also some progress made on certain elements, and we learned a bit more about some characters. Obviously there are still LOTS of questions and new leads to follow. My only complaint was the ending. It wasn't bad, I was just expecting something a little more shocking or just...more. 4.5 stars!

Changed my mind

In my review for the first book, I said I was disappointed. That all changed in the second. Seeing things through Dana's eyes was great. She had faith in Vinn from the start. She knew in her heart that he didn't commit the murder of sylvia. Dana, her detective friend, felt the same. If she wasn't a principal, she would make a great detective. She has a great group of friends, and they vowed to back each other. Hopefully, this will not put them in danger. I am looking forward to reading book 3.

Dr. Dana Perkins came to Shutter Lake to get away from a traumatic experience. She’s the principal of the Shutter Lake school and takes her job seriously. When one of her students confesses to a crime she knows he didn’t commit, Dana does all in her power to get the truth from him-that he didn’t kill Sylvia.
A great read. I wasn’t sure I would enjoy it because it wasn’t written by Debra Webb, it by Vicki Hinze. You would never know Debra didn’t write the second book of the “Breakdown Series. A great read but too short.

This series is more than just amazing! These books will have you lost from reality into each story, in each character and trying to figure it out before the end. Each book has a different author, which is remarkable how well they collaborated the series and makes for a great one at that! This is a set that you have to read for yourself to understand just how well these are written and will pull you in from start to end!

I enjoyed reading this book. I was disappointed that it didn’t continue on with the characters from the first book. The story line was the same which helped. I debated whether to read the third one in this series as it continues on with a different character from book 2. I’m hoping the last book will bring it all together. It’s still a good read. Each book is a little short. I think the whole story could have been combined into one book.
