Played or sang through a good number of the psalms and hymns, and they're all excellent. To clarify, the psalms are all set to music (some to multiple tunes with variations on the psalm text itself); this isn't *chanting* the psalms, which sets this hymnal apart from, say, the Lutheran Service Book and the Mundelein Psalter.
I also love the inclusion of the Apostles', Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds, the Three Forms of Unity (Belgic Confession, Heidelberg Catechism, Canons of Dort), and the Westminster Standards.
This is the best hymnal I have ever sung through! You can find the tunes online at their website easily and sing along very easily. It is very edifying and enriching. A good way to start or end your day, and a great thing to share with family and congregation. The music for the psalms in the psalter genuinely sounds great, and the hymn selection is fantastic! This is by far my favorite hymnal and is one of my favorite books.
This book is essentially the greatest hits of Reformed psalmody and hymnody. It's vastly superior to the Trinity Hymnal. It contains all the best hymns from the hymnal and it has settings for all 150 psalms that are clearly labeled as such. This is what I sang from at the OPC church I attended at college and it's what I'll be singing from at seminary. This is a valuable resource for the church.
"Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness!" -Psalm 150:1,2
