Rhys Rivera is the star short-stop for the Longview Lumberjacks. Many know him, even more love him. He has a pretty face, a quick smile, and an air of danger about him that everyone seems to adore. He’s not known as the bad boy of baseball for nothing. It all started with his father, who decided to be a criminal mob boss, then die. Fortunately for his uncle, Rhys wants absolutely nothing to do with the family business and runs before anyone can figure out which way is up. By the time his uncle, the successor to his father’s criminal empire, thinks to look for him, Rhys has made too big of a name for himself to be taken out quietly, and he wants to keep it that way. Fast forward eight years, and Rhys is living life one breath at a time, just waiting for the other shoe to drop. That shoe coming in the form of a nosy neighbor who has no idea just how hot she is in her mail carrier uniform. Her sweet little body and positive outlook on life make him want to laugh at how naïve she is when it comes to the way of the world. The harder he tries to stay away, the weaker he seems to get, until one day he decides to put his morals on hold long enough to satisfy his cravings. One time is all he needs—or so he tells himself. But then two pink lines change everything, and all of a sudden, he doesn’t have just himself to worry about anymore.

Best book of the series... hands down!!

Rhys is the star short-stop for the Longview Lumberjacks, a really great guy, and... he happens to be heir-apparent to a criminal kingdom. He's got an inheritance he doesn't want and can't spend his money fast enough... giving it away to charity. Who wouldn't love this guy?

Hensley is an absolute sweetheart. She's a mail carrier, a fantastic sister, and she devotes most of her time volunteering at the hospital, cuddling babies and sitting beside coma patients. An accident with her speech translator has put her hot new neighbor in her sights and she's always eager for a glimpse. But when their worlds finally collide, nothing could have prepared her for everything that Rhys had to give.

"What if I was born for you and you were put onto this earth especially for me?"

I thought that Listen, Pitch was a story about baseball. I couldn't be more wrong. It's about life and its frailties, about family, about overcoming all odds, and most definitely about love.

Rhys and Henley’s story took more creative leaps than I’m used to but I went with the flow. It turned out to be an interesting plot with a little reach but overall a fun journey. I liked Henley’s perseverance and supportive nature. Rhys was interesting and dynamic. They had a good connection that translated well in the pages. It was interesting to read the cameo of a character that has spanned through several series and how his actions add to the very complex layer that’s been built up for him. I haven’t read the rest in the baseball series but I’m interested in fixing that very soon.

5 ‘What if one day we live happily ever after?‘ Stars

ALL THE SWOONS! There’s No Crying In Baseball series truly is THE BEST! Rhys and Henley couldn’t have surprise me more (new couple crush!), and this book… WOW, just WOW! Getting more and more addicted to these Lumberjacks and their stories by the minute – or should I say book!

For those of you Lani Lynn Vale fans like myself, you’ll recognized Rhys and Henley from previous books from the author, specially Too Bad So Sad, where Tyler, Henley’s brother is the male main character, and it is where we found out a bit about these two, and since there, I’m been beyond intrigued by their particular situation, lol. Listen, Pitch tells us all that happens to these two and that brought them to their HEA, answering all my questions about their relationship, and then some! ;)

Rhys and Henley are next door neighbors and didn’t even know each other until Hen is forced to go next door, and a whole event occurs, during which they see each other for the first time, and let me just say that even with the sad circumstances the outcome couldn’t have been better for either. It only took that very scene and succeeding reaction from Rhys, to make a long lasting impactful impression on Henley – and myself! I was already half in love with the man just by that, lol.

I’ll keep it very vague here because I truly don’t want to spoil it for anyone, and their journey is a rollercoaster of events and emotion, with such a beautiful slow development to their relationship, that made them more real for me, and that much more endearing.

Rhys is not only a famous baseball player, but he also has a very dark and impossible to cut strings past, all the way from his father’s connection with the Italian mafia. It’s a cross he has always beared, and one he can’t find a way to vanish…

I was a dark, dangerous, broken man.

Subjecting a woman to my world was a bad idea. Women tended to die.
However, for some reason, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I could protect this one.
That I could protect Henley and would do it with my life if it came down to it.

That is until another horrible event happens, putting him in a coma (yes, I’m giving you this tid bit, just because it’s very early on, and there is no way to explain the awesomeness of this woman without it, lol), and that is exactly when we get – along with Rhys at the time – to see the amazing and caring person that Henley is (specially because she had no idea it was her amazing neighbor at the time, and now, it was her we were falling in love too. Seriously, this couple absolutely rocked!!!

Rhys and Henley were SO well matched, it truly seemed like Fate!

“What if I was born for you, and you were put onto this earth especially for me?”

“What if one day we live happily ever after?”

Isn’t he just the swooniest! The way he cared for her from the get go, that very first meeting, the way he always brought her up and was soooooo attentive with the hearing impairment – yes, his sister also suffers from it – but was so much more than that. It was Henley. He truly saw HER! And loved every part of her!

Their slow paced relationship development, the beautiful friendship it blossomed even they were insanely attracted to one another, and even with the impositions given by the subplot, I never once doubted their love. They were THAT amazing together and in each interaction! Told you, totally fan-girling for these two!

Ms. Vale indeed is rocking my world with this series, and I can’t wait to see who is the next Lumberjack to fall! SO many amazing secondary characters we saw here, once again, and so much potential for equally unforgettable stories. Can’t wait!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

It was as if, one day, I’d woken up and she’d become the center of my world.
Literally.
From the moment that I’d woken from that coma, my life had irrevocably changed.
I didn’t scare her.
I didn’t intimidate her. I didn’t hate her.
I fucking loved her.
A lot.

“I love you, Rhys.”
He looked up sharply, and his entire face broke out into a grin. “I’ve loved you since the day I woke up in the hospital room and found you staring at me…I just didn’t know what the emotion I was feeling was.”

I was about to start this review by saying this was my first book by Lani Lynn Vale but then I realized that I actually read one of hers earlier this year and had issues with that one as well. So I think I'm going to chalk this up to, this author just isn't for me. The story had it's interesting parts but overall it felt like somehow nothing was happening to progress the story while at the same time too much was happening. So many dramas were being thrown in but then not getting a lot of page time to feel concluded before the next drama popped up. And it was really hard to get into the story when it kept skipping forward and then would throw a comment in about something that had apparently happened during the time we didn't see. It was like the majority of the book was us being told what happened and seeing almost none of it actually play out. Overall, I can see why this author has a lot of fans that recommend her books but for me I don't think I'll be one of them.

What the FU@K, Lani?!

After reading Pitch, Please I was so excited about getting my hands on this book--I even preordered it! Now, I wish I had spent that money on a 2 for $4 meal, which would have actually satisfied me.

This book isn't a book, it's like the shell of a story with all the good parts missing. So much telling, so many missed opportunities to add depth. One minute they are chatting in the kitchen, and the next minute it is three months later... What the FU@K happened in those three months? You are robbing the reader of the opportunity to become emotionally attached to the characters. It is almost like this romance is the cliffnotes of a much better romance.

Also...who the hell walks around in a nearly complete stranger's house in their underwear? Seriously? She'd barely known the guy (awake) for more than a month before she was hanging out in his house in her panties. But there was no "relationship" at that point, so the heroine thought... "Oh, he won't mind. I'll just hang out in my skivvies because it is totally appropriate."

The attraction is so gray and boring. Because of all the skipping of days and conversations (told only after the fact) I missed all the moments of physical attraction. It was bland and contrived and totally lacking in any heat. The only sex scene I read was a pretty tame and quick tup in the shower. It was so meh that I felt like I should tag in and show them what the hell is actually supposed to happen. I mean, we don't even know what her tits look like! It's like, they aren't even there--just pert nipples and no jugs. Also, the heroine is so uninteresting...

God dammit, Lani. You let me down with this book. I couldn't even stomach finishing it--especially since this fu@ker needed another round of edits.

Listen Pitch is another hilarious, sexy, heartrending book filled with all kinds of surprises! A must read for lovers of all things romance!

Rhys and Henley are so different in their individual lifestyles that it’s hard to imagine them together as a couple. Rhys is the superstar baseball player, Henley is the everyday girl just trying to make it from payday to payday. They are actually neighbors but have little to do with each other one day fate decides it’s time to play her hand and throws them together in a way that will forever change their lives. The attraction Rhys and Henley have for each other is undeniable. The road blocks that pop up seem insurmountable but through the pain and fear their love and bond are strong enough to beat it all.

If you are wanting to try out Lani Lynn Vale’s style but don’t know where to start in her extensive library, Listen Pitch will be a great book to try and not feel lost.

WARNING My reviews are generally all over the shot but this one will be extra evasive because I don't want to spoil anything for you lovelies.

Mother fucker this book got me all kinds of messed up.

First off.. I mean any fan of this author knows your about to get good and done no matter the characters because Lani always pulls it out the bag. I don't know what I expected of Rhys and Henley's story but I was not prepared for this kind of crazy.

sports romance with a hint of mafia? Yes fucking please

Full review to come..

I'm back💃

Wow! I'm still shookith from all the crazy shit that happened in this book! A third reread hasn't made the plot bombs any easier to swallow.

Henley and Rhys have hell of a journey through this book let me tell you. You think you have an idea of what's happening or where the story is going and then you get slapped upside the swede with the reality of the situation.
They have the strangest of starts!. I mean I really was shouting at the book in floods of tears thinking oh no where is she going with this? Surly she won't do me wrong..
When I say this is an emotional rollercoaster I mean it. I felt like I was dragged through the hedge backwards, left emotional rung dry and exhausted.
The connection is instentaneous but the the relationship is a slow burn of sensual goodness. You feel that chemistry and you relate to them as characters. I loved them both hard and connected to their story. I rooted for their happy and lord did they deserve some happy!.

I'm going to leave this here for now and come back once it's been a while so everyone's had a chance to read it because otherwise I'll end up spoiling it for others and trust me this is one you need to go in with a clear head.

3 1/2 stars I really enjoyed this book but I have to say something happens in this book that took the star count down significantly. I was really liking the hero and heroine and the storyline as well the fact that the heroine wasn’t “perfect”. I know many won’t have an issue with this book and won’t agree with my comment and maybe I’m over reacting but for me I’m not, Again I know some won’t agree with me I just did not like this turn.

I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. I like the idea behind this story. I wish there we were able to read more about their interactions over the months of recovery to show the obvious attraction that they talk about. Honestly, being I had to read it over a few days I thought I missed parts or forgot about things. It felt like it jumped ahead at times you missed out on connecting with the characters. Like I said, I liked the idea of it but some of it fell short for me.

The previous chapters made you want to keep reading…and it turned out to be great. Although H didn't think he love h, it didn't take long for him to realize that's love. This story also solved the myth in Tyler's story about his sister's three children.

If there's story about H's sister, I'd like to read.

Before I start this review, I need to address one thing. I freaking love the titles in the There’s No Crying In Baseball Series! I cannot get over how cute and witty these titles are!

About Listen, Pitch:

Rhys Rivera is known as the sexy as sin playboy in the baseball world. But what the world doesn’t know is Rhys Rivera is in hiding from an Uncle who is out to destroy him and everyone he loves. His one greatest mission in life is to be the best he can at his career that way he’ll become untouchable, and so far he’s done just that.

Henley Cree Is on a mission to live her best life, Given he struggles she has to face on a day-to-day basis, she doesn’t let the fact that she’s deaf define who she is. But sometimes its hard to be the woman she wants to be when the only thing she can think about is how defective she thinks she is.

When a chance, match made in literal heaven, encounter between Henley and Rhys occur they have no choice but to team up and fight the wickedness that comes in the form of Rhys’s Uncle. The stakes are high and the tension is strong….in all forms. Will Henley and Rhys’s relationship withstand every obstacle the world has to throw at them, or will they crumble? You’ll have to read to find out!

My Thoughts:

I was introduced to Lani Lynn Vale’s work last year and I’ve come to enjoy and look forward to her books in this series. I love witty characters and characters that are completely opposite coming together during the weirdest circumstances. I love how every novel has a hot-shot baseball player drawn in and obsessing over the typical every day girl!

Listen, Pitch is such a dynamic story. There are so many elements to this novel that I loved and others I could have done without. First off I loved the fact that this novel touches on a disability that isn’t much talked about in the romance world. Or at least the romances that I’ve read. I loved how Henley didn’t let her hearing impairment get her down. I get the fact that at times she found herself defective, but we all have our weak moments and this woman’s spirit shined bright.

One thing I have to mention, again, is the fact that this whole series deals with superstar baseball pro’s falling for regular everyday women. I freaking love that premise. I love that there is nothing exuberant about these women, it clearly shows the heart wants what the heart wants. The perfect fairytale.

I rated this book with a 3 star rating because even though I loved Listen, Pitch, I felt towards the end, the story line jumped around too much. The ultimate connection I initially felt in the beginning started to fizzle out towards the end. I loved the fact that Rhys was this super badass but there was way to much going on, causing the true moral of the story to lose its fire. It kind of gave me whiplash.

Overall, I did like Listen, Pitch by Lani Lynn Vale, it was a great read with loads of sexual tension and witty humor, but there were a few flaws I couldn’t overlook…no matter how much I wanted to.

Rhys Rivera is living his dream of being a professional baseball player, but his past has his ties with the mafia always threatening to take hold. It isn't that Rhys wants any part of it, he has made it clear he wants his life in Texas. Threats are always coming though and that is why Rhys knows he should stay away from Henley Cree, his neighbor but she may just be the solution he has been looking for.

Henley is attracted to Rhys and as they get close he makes her a proposition she isn't sure she can refuse. Can Henley have a life with Rhys or should she just walk away?

This was great and a bit of a surprise. Liked Henley a lot, she is down to earth and Rhys with her is a perfect compliment. Another terrific read in the series.

This one was a bit too over the top even as I liked Rhys and Henley. The over the top part started with Rhys's accident and recovery. There is no way that a person would have been allowed to leave the hospital like that in his career situation. Then there is how Rhys went back to work, not believable. And dont' get me started on Rhys family situation and what he had to do by the time he was 30 and 1 year after. Things got even more crazy towards the end, not sure what is more than over the top, but this was it.

What I did really like was that Rhys never saw Henley as less or impaired. He often stood up for her even to Henley herself.

Yess...Listen, Pitch is the 3rd book in the There's No Crying in Baseball series. I feel that the books can definitely be read as a standalone but they are all sooo enjoyable, you should definitely read them all!!

Ohh and before I write my review, I always like to take a moment and admire Lani's book covers. Holy smokes, Jacob Wilson as the muse for this book just hit it out of the park for me!!! Great choice girlie!!!

Soo Listen, Pitch is about Rhys Rivera. He is the star short stop for the Texas Lumberjacks. He happens to be at home one evening when this spit fire of a girl comes barreling over to ask him to turn his music down. He finds out that she is actually his neighbor and what a way to meet. She is hotter than a hornet and she ends up getting knocked over by his security guard which in turn knocks her hearing aide that she wears off and it gets stepped on in the chaos. Rhys feels soo bad about this and happens to know someone very close to him that can help him out in replacing this aide for his beautiful new neighbor.

This chance meeting starts them off on a whirl wind of a courtship...lol This is just one snippet of the book I am sharing with you guys. This book is sooo much more!! Goodness, these two definitely take a wild ass crazy train ride, Hell, I think I should call it a wild ass rollercoaster ride of a lifetime full of drama. haha But lord, it made me keep turning those pages like a wild woman dying to know what was going to happen next!!

I gave Listen, Pitch 4 iScream Stars!! So buckle up ladies cuz you don't want to get ejected off this wild ass ride Lani is going to take you on!!!

5 SMOOCHES!

I’m a huge fan of Lani Lynn Vale’s, and I’m really enjoying this sports romance series. Lani always adds a suspenseful element to her stories, and while this series is a bit lighter-hearted than her others, it definitely has some intrigue co-mingled with the romance. While the There’s No Crying in Baseball series is a world within one of Vale’s existing worlds, this series can definitely be read on its own and would be a great place for a new reader to start.

I loved Rhys and Henley! He was the bad boy baseball player with a heart of gold who falls hard for the sweet, good-girl next door. Right from the start, this story drew me in and held all of my attention—I positively devoured it and didn’t want to put it down, in large part because I adored this couple so much. Rhys was so protective, sweet and tender with Henley, and she was fiercely loyal, always having his back. Their romance was quick and hot, but it was the absolute adoration they had for each other that made my heart race.

Listen Pitch was one of the sweetest romances Lani has written with a couple who were in sync in every way. Vale has built yet another fictional world—with plenty of interesting side characters whose stories I am dying to for—that I cannot wait to visit again. Five smooches from me for Listen Pitch by Lani Lynn Vale!

I have been waiting for this book for what seems like forever! I love Lani Lynn Vale's "There's No Crying in Baseball" series and Rhys is a character I've been very curious about from the first mention of him. That curiosity became even stronger when he made an appearance in Too Bad So Sad, along with his lady love Henley. To say their story has been one I anticipated is such an understatement! And boy was it a fun ride!

There's a time jump in this one, but it goes backwards. In TBSS, Rhys and Henley are already married with kids and there's lots of hints dropped that there's "a story" there in how they came to be together and the birth of their babies. I was so curious and I had a few theories but I was off by a wee bit lol. So when we start Listen Pitch, it goes back to before TBSS so we get to see how they meet. Which I will say was super cute and Rhys showed hos sweet side from the start. Then we get thrown for a loop and I seriously wondered where LLV was gonna take the story for a bit, but not to worry, she had a plan and it was executed with her usual flare of greatness! I don't want to go into too much detail and give any spoilers away, so I'll just say this was a great book and it had lots of twists and turns. There was plenty of answers to the questions we had from TBSS and I really enjoyed getting them! To be honest, after the last book in this series, which I didn't love as much as the first unfortunately, I was hoping Listen Pitch would give me back that feeling I had when I first read Pitch Please. It so did! I loved this book! It had LLV's trademark style and flare and it was a fun read from the beginning to the end! :)

Baseball, the mob, and love…

What do those things all have in common? Well, they all belong in this fabulous new read from one of my favourite authors. Lani Lynn Vale knows how to spin a funny, emotional and twisty tale and Rhys and Henley’s romance was just that!

Rhys is injured in a horrific accident but as he recovers Henley realizes that her neighbour has hidden depths. He had played the white knight and she turned around and did the same thing for him. Doing that meant a closeness sprung up between them – one that both struggled to define. Were they friends, lovers? What they were evolved through hilarious moments, steamy scenes and drama, drama, drama. If you’ve read this author than you know about her quirky humour that is felt through every chapter quote and biting quip of her characters. Oh, how I love the laughter!

Henley and Rhys are two of my favourite characters of all the series I’ve read from LLV and their story is one I will reread again and again. For the love, for the giggles and for the drama on drama that kept me glued to the pages to the very end.

I don't even know where to start with this book. Ok ok ok.....I'll start with....don't read the 2nd half of this book in public. I made the mistake of reading a certain part in my break room and ended up crying my eyes out and my co workers looked at me like I was nuts.
This book had something for EVERYONE. LLV's usual funny banter, smoking hot hero, quirky and witty heroine, nutty family...BUT...she added in a villain that was so bad I wanted to whack him. That man had no soul and this earth would be a better place without him. So of course Rhys had to do something about that.
All in all I really loved Listen Pitch. Lani Lynn Vale's books just make me happy......even when I'm crying in my break room.

This book was fun, interesting, and really ties together all of the stories in the baseball series and the Bear Bottom Guardians series. There was some drama, some serious parts, but the connection between Henley and Rhys was absolutely....perfect. There is no other way to put it. I loved them separately, but together they were amazing! Another must read from LLV!

Listen, Pitch is quite the intriguing name for Henley and Rhys’ story because it becomes more than apparent that both of them have a few people in mind who they’d like to tell off, and in some ways, that’s exactly what they do the further into the story readers go, which is where things go a little off-kilter and a lot out of control.

Henley Cree is quite a fiery yet positive thinking woman - one who always puts others ahead of herself and one who has distorted self perception that Rhys is more than happy to correct for her because as much as Henley sees herself as defective is as much as Rhys sees her as being everything he’s ever wanted but never knew he needed. I love how Henley owns her quirkiness, embracing her eccentricities, even though, sometimes, it’s extremely difficult for her to do so.

Rhys’ nickname as the ‘bad boy of baseball’ seemed ill-fitting due to the where and when readers are introduced to him, and while there’s mention of his past activities in Chicago, he left that life over 8 years ago, and he has no desire to ever return to it, so I felt like I didn’t really get a full picture of why Rhys received that moniker; I needed a little more background into who Rhys was before the accident and before a certain beautiful neighbor got in his face about the noise and then was found at his bedside when Rhys finally came back to the land of the living.

Rhys’ uncle is the perfect antagonist because his actions and the lengths that he’s willing to go to are so over the top and somewhat unexpected. Rhys’ uncle is a cruel and vindictive man who lives his life according to his own rules, to hell with anyone or anything else. The things that he did to Rhys’ dad and continues to do to Rhys and Rhys’ sister, in order to keep them in line, absolutely paints this man as the menacing bastard he is. So it makes complete sense to me why Rhys goes the route he does and doesn’t allow his uncle to steam roll him. Is this decision more dangerous, absolutely! Readers see that firsthand, but part of Rhys’ transformation, if you will, needs to come from his own personal revelations and his uncle is responsible, along with his parents, for Rhys’ warped sense of love and relationships, so before he can move forward with Henley, in all the ways that deep down he wants and needs to, Rhys must deal with his uncle’s threats as well as the series of actions that his father laid out for him to claim his dirty mafia money - money that Rhys doesn’t need but he sure as hell isn’t willing to let his uncle take it off his hands.

I really liked how Lani Lynn Vale explained why Rhys has been somewhat safe from his uncle’s maniacal plans. The idea that Rhys’ stardom continues to save his life makes sense; Rhys is a high profile professional athlete, so he’s in the spotlight, not only for his baseball skills but also due to his physique and his personality. If anything happened to him, it would be well publicized, meaning the person or people behind it would be easily apprehended, so his uncle needs to find less pronounced ways of trying to kill him.

But Henley entering Rhys’ life changes everything and sets things in motion at warped speed which means that his uncle is almost out of time and options, but as readers will see, that fact doesn’t stop Rhys’ uncle, it only makes him desperate, which doesn’t bode well for anyone involved because a desperate man is one willing to do anything to get what he wants regardless of who’s affected by those plans.

Rhys and Henley’s story is one crazy, jacked up, but beautiful ride. I never doubted that Rhys loved Henley, even when he thought he was incapable of doing so because a man doesn’t meet someone like her, feel an instant connection, and then find out that she spent all that time at his bedside keeping vigil even though she barely knew him and let her go…and yea, his life is dangerous, but it’s clear that he’ll protect Henley with everything he is because that’s what a guy does for the woman who is his entire world, which is exactly what Henley becomes.

I’ve been in so many of Lani Lynn Vale’s worlds that I can’t quite decide which one is my favorite, but what I do know is that every single one of them has entertaining stories and dynamic characters, so there’s not one of them that I mind returning to time and time again.

4 Star Review Listen Pitch (There’s No Crying In Baseball #3) by Lani Lynn Vale

This is book three in the There’s No Crying in Baseball series. It can be read as a standalone but in my opinion I would read the books in order.

Rhys Rivera is the star short-stop for the Longview Lumberjacks and is known as the bad boy of baseball for good reasons. His father was a mob boss so you know that this story will not be just a sports romance story even though Rhys wants nothing to do with the family business and has left it all behind him.

When Rhys’s bodyguard accidental ruins his deaf neighbour Henley Cree’s hearing transmission he has no idea how his life is about to change.

The chemistry between Rhys and Henley was off the charts and smoking hot. However it was more interesting to see that the player could and did have real feelings for Henley and I loved how protective and alpha he was towards her.

The question is has Rhys really Changed or will he revert to his old ways?

This book was well written with characters that kept me entertained and at times an emotional roller coaster of a read with humour, angst, danger, and sadness.

omg! hahahaha, what a steaming pile of bullshit.
it has more twists and turns then a Mexican drama series.
seriously, i can't figure out how it got such a high rating! how?!
is it me?
who has 4 babies from a surrogate? mob boss? marriage of convenience? waking up from a coma?
you ask it and this book has that drama incident. the only saving grace was it was engaging to read , as engaging it is to watch a really bad drama series. wow

I was happy they were going to have 4 babies…. I thought to myself “ finally! An author who doesn’t do the standard 2 -3 kids” but sadly nope. I really do wish someone just put in a crazy amount of kids once in a while for some variety.

I have to say: Listen Pitch is by far my favorite book of any of Lani Lynn Vale’s Sports romances she’s written so far. And if this series is the only she’s written, well hot damn, I can’t wait for more.

There were so many elements of the previous books I’ve read from this author that made this book so very engaging. Heck, i started this book after supper and within two hours I was more than halfway through. By the next day (because I had fallen asleep), I had pliers through half of my half during my lunch hour and I was literally counting down the minutes until my day at work was over. And boy was I ever happy to be able to read every single sentence of this book.

This book was funny. It was captivating. And it kept me at the edge of my seat more often than not because so many things were happening - to those that follow any of Lani Lynn Vale’s stories, they will recognize so many characters, and I know that I wanted to get back to those books and see if I could ‘see’ Henley and Rhys.

I loved this book, and I can’t wait for the next story that we’ll get to dive right into.

What do I love most in the romance world? Sports Romance. Why? Because the drama is always juicy. Lani Lynn Vale is definitely an author in my TBR I am currently working through. A lot of her work is either a hit or miss with me on my like vs love spectrum, but I have really come to enjoy her storylines. Listen, Pitch is the third book of Vale I have read, and I enjoyed it, I did, but there were definitely some spots I personally was not keen on...

But we are getting ahead of ourselves! Lets discuss this book, shall we?

First things first, the characters. Henley is definitely a character I had a lot of back and forth with... She was definitely a likable, sweet character, one who was just simply put, she was cute. But that is the problem, her naive, innocent personality honestly made her quite inferior. Though I understand the purpose of this, mostly because Rhys is the alpha-rescue lover in her world, she just felt she lacked development. She was sweetly tame but not memorable. I liked her, just her naive presence more or less made it hard to relate to her character.  At many points she felt more like a secondary character than a main character. Then you have Rhys - I am sorry, this is where the girl readers of the romance world are so biased, we hate the fictional females and fawn over the male man meat... #sorrynotsorry is all I can say.

Rhys was definitely a delicious character. I really enjoyed his mysterious, macho man personality yet he was a closet sweetie. I cannot help but drool over these kinds of fictional men. I also really liked his backstory. It really added a level of sex appeal to his exterior. That moment when he saw the damage his bodyguard did while scarying off Henley - queue the swoonage!

Obviously with their romance, this is where Henley shined more as a character, her character honestly depended on Rhys. Again I say, she felt more like a secondary character in her own romance. I did, to be honest, really enjoyed their chemistry; the way he treated her, the way she comforted him, it was really sweet romance. I will also admit, this was definitely an insta-love connection, not that that deters my enjoyment, but it was the way it flowed. Henley was nothing without Rhys presence, at least in my opinion. I am sorry, I just cannot get over that factor.

Overall, I liked Listen, Pitch. Unfortunately I just did not love it. The plot had such strong build yet at many points it was just lack luster or rather awkward dialogue and dynamics between the romance. The drama of Rhys background was really fun additive. Definitely plan to continue checking out more from this author, like I said earlier, her books at this point has been a hit or miss with me on the like vs love spectrum, but she nonetheless has really interesting tropes that I am dying to read through!

This is my second book by Lani and 2nd in There's No Crying In Baseball series. I like her witty writing style, pitching ordinary heroines with sports superstars heroes

description

Typically her stories have 3 main ingredients- funny banter, fast pace and unusual names.
Here too Henley Diane Cree is a regular girl next door to a baseball superstar- Rhys Rivera. He's a quiet man with noisy friends and Henley is a girl with disability.
I dreamed about a tiny woman, who was deaf, staying in a house by herself who couldn’t protect herself.
Chance encounter lands her on her ass and her transmitter broken. Next thing you know she's holding hand of a dying man for two weeks and then he dies!!!!!
She's a sweetest, most compassionate person I've read in recent books. Always on back foot cause she thinks she's "defective" and can't believe anybody would ever be interested in her *gasp*
I was slightly overweight. I had long, bland, straight as a board, boring brown hair. I had acne—and there was no way in hell he was missing the pimple on the end of my nose. My boobies were literally the only asset that I had that was at least considered attractive. Then there were my millions of freckles that covered the entire expanse of my exposed skin, and even some of the skin that wasn’t.

description

The story turns on its axis and the cuteness overload of a story that follows had me turning pages so fast, it gave me a dang near papercut. The last 30% of the story just turned..........how shall I put it.....strange!!!
I fell down laughing at the scene when Henley catches Rhys watching porn on his tv....i mean want if he caught mom😂😂😂😂😂
Rhys steps up to the plate to deal with the dark past that is plaguing him. The career role he was running from, catches up with him and he has no choice but to dig in his heels and show his true colours to shield the woman he loves and the family he is fiercely protective about.
I had trouble dealing with last 20% , but it was still an engrossing read.
So go ahead and read this hilarious sports comedy

Baseball Badboy Rhys Rivera has a dark past he’s worked hard to leave behind, but can’t completely escape. He tries to play things as safe as possible, but is always waiting for the past to catch up to him and ultimately take him out. So, he plays it as safe as possible. But, his sexy neighbor has him completely intrigued . . . and no matter how hard he tries to stay away, it’s a losing battle.

Henley can’t figure out why Rhys could possibly be interested in her . . .but she is falling, and falling fast for all of his charms. The more she learns about his past, the more she jumps all in with Rhys, willing to give him everything, including herself.

But when the past comes at Rhys and Henley with a vengeance, it will take all of Rhys’ strength and cunning to keep Henley and his chance at a future safe.

I’ve come to expect the unexpected from Lani Lynn Vale, but Listen Pitch completely knocked my socks off!!!!! This storyline was so unexpected in so many ways that I was enthralled and read the entire book in one sitting.

While he’s famous for baseball, Rhys has one heck of a backstory, and with every detail we learn, his strength of character shines. He is completely his own man and will not be ruled by his past, which made me admire his character so much.

Henley simply rocks. While she may not love her job, she knows exactly who she is, doesn’t make excuses, lives life on her own terms and does what makes her happy. I loved that while she quit nursing school thanks to the sight of blood making her sick, she volunteers three days a week at the hospital. She never once lets the fact that she is deaf hold her back in any way, which is inspirational.

Listen Pitch is very fast paced with unexpected twists and turns throughout. The suspense is simply thrilling and the characters and their non-traditional path to romance was pure enjoyment to read. 5 stars!

Another home run by the talented Lani lynn Vale Listen Pitch has got to be my favorite in the There's no crying in baseball series it can be read as a standalone but I would recommend that you get the other stories as soon as possible . Side note Rhys and Henley are slightly mentioned in Too bad so sad part of the simple man series Henleys brother is the hero in that one and he does make an appearance in Listen Pitch . I love how the author creates such unique and likable characters and always gets you right in the emotions with the story lines . I fell for Henley from page one no I take that back I fell for her in Too bad so sad she is one of most selfless characters I've read she's funny , quirky , relate able , beautiful not only on the out side , plus she is a little minx . Oh my Rhys just take my heat and keep it please this hero is just amazing the way he is with the heroine , his sister and teammates just made me drawn to him . The sex scenes lets not forget those HOT HOT HOOOOOT scenes those two really burned up my kindle . If this is the first book that you have read by the author I highly recommend all of her stories they just make me fall every time and I love falling hope you do too .
