Coming to America was supposed to be a new adventure for Hayley Hunter and her husband, a chance for a fresh start in a new country. She never dreamed her journey would land her alone in a strange place with nobody she knew. She joins up with a wagon train in the hopes of meeting up with her brother and his family along the trail.
Malcom Wheeler knows the hardships and heartbreak families face, but there’s usually safety in numbers, so he runs his own wagon train to try and help people determined to head out west. Taking the lady along goes against his better judgement; understanding her plight and being happy about it are two different things.
Can Malcom help Hayley find comfort by restoring a part of her past when he finds her family’s trunk that holds a journal? Is there hope for both of them to find a family of their own?

This was a great short story and is book 2 of The Thanksgiving and Blessings Collection. The author writes well and the narrator was great. Malcolm on the Organ Trail traveling west, allowed Haley to travel with them against his better judgement. Difficult times ahead and the loss of both Malcolm and Haley pulls them together. Read about the faith they both have that gives them the will and strength to keep surviving in their world of sorrow. Can they help each other with their grief? If you like Historical Fiction you will enjoy this one. I received an audiobook from the author but was not required to write a review. All opinions are my own.
Hayley Hunter, recently widowed, needs to join her brother and his family in order to survive this new country she finds herself in. With that in mind, she convinces long-time widower and trail master, Malcom Wheeler, to allow her to be the cook, at least until she can join up with her brother and family along the trail.
Susette Williams packs a lot into her 91-page novella. I was amazed at how well the characters were developed, how well the story flowed and the strength of the plot. Novellas, by virtue of their abbreviated length, are sometimes tricky. Gateway to the West includes romance, hope, tragedy, faith and fourberie.
An author needs to pack a lot of story into a very small package, and Susette excels with Gateway to the West!
Each story in the Thanksgiving Books & Blessings Collection is a stand-alone. In addition, some are novellas, and some are full-length novels.
Great Story!! this is book 2 in the Thanksgiving Books & Blessings Collection . Makes a great stand alone book to listen to or read. Well written and the narrator was great. a book I would be proud to read with or in front of my grandchildren. Haley is a recent widow trying to find her brother and family. Malcom is a recent widower who is leading the wagon train. She gets him to hire her on as a cook for his wagon train, at least till she finds her brother. He believes that his family was killed by Indians, and he wants to find those guilty. Can Malcom and Haley help each other? I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own. In this Christian romance fiction and book 2 of the Thanksgiving & Blessings Collection we find a widowed Haley trying to find her brother and his family. Also the wagon train leader, Malcom, believes that his family was killed by Indians, and he wants to find those guilty. What will he find? Can Malcom and Haley help each other? I loved the strong plot, strong characters, adventure, and action.
This is a novella but reads like a full novel. Often novellas wrap up the ending quickly, but this story just flowed easily all the way through. Similar to the first story, a wagon train had been massacred and Haley finds out how it affects her future. Malcom lost his wife and children and had not desire to bring Haley onto his wagon train, but she convinces him she has no other choice. Along the way Malcom slowly loses his heart to her and she to him.
Gateway to the West by Suzette Williams was an enjoyable read for historical Christian fiction readers. Following Haley and Malcolm on their wagon train journey to find both the murderers of their families and love again was refreshing and left me wanting more of their story! I was given a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is book 2 of the Thanksgiving Books & Blessings Collection. Haley is a recent widow trying to find her brother and family. Malcom is a recent widower who is leading the wagon train. He wants to find out who killed his family and why. This is a great story of how their lives become intertwined. Great Read!
Haley is determined to get to her family. When she approaches Malcom about working for him he refused. Watching Haley change his mind is special. The way Haley and Malcom helps each other will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. You will feel God working throughout this whole story. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review.
Haley is a Widow in need of finding her only remaining family, a brother, his wife and their children. Her only way to do that is Malcom's wagon train that is leaving going west. They are in need of a cook, and she finally bashers Malcom into hiring her. You will enjoy reading this story of intrigue, humor, love, and joy.
Sweet romance in this Christian story about traveling the Santa Fe Trail. A few details were off, but a good plot and believable characters that made this a good story.
This was a nice little story. I love how the Lord helps us get through hard times and helps us the move on and keep living. Everything happened a bit fast for me, but still it was very good.
I enjoyed this short book, but I was surprised little of the trail was spoken about. I was a bit confused when they were back in Missouri. Overall it's an interesting story, but I've got a few questions that I feel should have been answered in the book.
