Malik and Deja messed around after meeting at his birthday party.
Promising careers are on hold when Deja informs Malik that she's late. For Malik, being a new father at 23 years old, seems odd but doable. However for Deja, it's a lot to consider and maybe too much.
In consideration for Deja's feelings, Malik tries his hardest to make things right, but there maybe only one way to escape a love never meant to happen in her eyes.

Short Summary of book:
This book tells the story of 23-year-old Malik who meets the 20-year-old Deja at his birthday party. Both are rather awkward and shy, but they still connect. When there is a condom failure during their make-out session, the initial signs are that Deja is not pregnant, she turns out to be pregnant after all. He does not shy away from his responsibilities, instead standing by Deja all the way. It shows his love for Deja, responsibility and baby Jasmine. He makes a great role model for young men (and women) around (irrespective of race, religion, etc). Rather than running away at the first sign of trouble, he stands strong in the face of adversity.
What I liked about the book:
I particularly liked how strong Malik remained throughout the book. Even when Deja had difficulty coping with first looming motherhood and then the reality of early motherhood, he continued to support her as best he could. He may have been awkward, but he was strong underneath it all.
The author has a unique style of writing. The book started in the middle and next returned to the beginning following through until the end. His storytelling style seems like rambling. Although you would expect this to confuse the reader, it did no such thing. Instead, it gave the impression he was standing in front of you and telling you the story straight to your face in normal conversation. Well done!
What I didn’t like about the book:
I liked the book in its entirety. It would not be a book I would pick off the shelf, the cover does not appeal to me as it gives a 'tough guy' feel, but I’m pleased I read the book despite this. I was a little surprised though neither Malik nor Deja thought of the possibility of the ‘morning-after pill’. It might have avoided both some heartache. Malik would, however, also have had to miss out on the treasure which was Jasmine.
My favourite bits in the book:
I loved where Malik always puts Jasmine and Deja first. That he simply accepts his responsibilities as though there was no other possibility. I also loved how he tried to support Deja through her depression even if he did not know what was going on or how best to do that. Hat off to him.
My least favourite bits in the book:
I didn’t like it when Deja couldn’t cope. Enough said, I don’t want to give away too much.
Any further books in the series? Any more planned by this author?
I understand there are several more books in the same series.
What books could this be compared to and why?
This book reminded me of other romance novels. Still it was entirely unique and could not really be compared to any of them.
Recommendation:
In summary I would recommend this book for the following readers:
Children NO Young Adult Yes Adult Yes
If you like romance books this book is the book for you. The book could be a great role model for teenagers and young adults dealing with challenging facts. It also discusses depression and the effects of that, living up to responsibilities and coping with adversity. It was a great read.
I look forward to reading more books by this author.

She Got Me is a new book series in urban fiction display of African-American romance stories featuring a woman's world vs a man's ego.
About the Author:
Just Bae grew up in the boroughs of Brooklyn, New York, where he was much admired in school for writing short stories and African American romance fiction. Nowadays, he decided to take things serious, beginning with his first ever urban romance book series called She Got Me which is uniquely being written for the summer of 2018.
Deja and Malik meet at Malik's birthday party. Malik is 23 years old but a little awkward. Under his brother’s insistence he talks with Deja and after some banter, they sleep together. The author makes a great job painting the struggles of two young people as they get ready for parenthood. There are no rose-colored glasses and that's what makes the book great. It's a story about two people who weren't ready to be parents, with a dad who did everything he could.
A good read! Bae writes in a smooth and conversational style that is lean and not too wordy. The editing was well done and the story line got my interest. The dialog was natural and the characters were believeable. The love scene was especially well done with the tenderness of one who knows true expression of love. I enjoyed reading this story and hope Bae continues to write more.
Very easy to read and follow I enjoyed this story about a young couple dealing with the complexities of being young parents while still trying to figure out who they are.
This is so good. It’s refreshing to see it from the males POV. Most books I’ve read have been from the woman’s POV , it’s nice to see the other side. A bit of an eye opener. Written well. Samuel has a lovely tone to his voice.
Deja pissed me all the way off! It was like she never tried to begin with. Malik did it all selflessly and she let him. I feel like once she found out she was pregnant she started acting as though her life was over and there was no going back or making it better. I'm glad that Malik held it altogether for Jazzy and himself! Enjoyed the book and it's ending!
Malik can't catch a break. He's a stand up guy , and tries to do right but gets kicked in the teeth for his efforts! I was ticked off with Deja's lack of responsibility. WTH! Malik may get his hea at last!! Check it out. The narrator's voice and expressions brought the story to life.
I received an ARC copy of She Got me in exchange for a fair and honest review. This was a great story. I thought the story was very well written and flowed well. The story kept me glued to the pages to see how everything would turn out. I loved the characters and had this read in one sitting.
DNF'ed at 17%. For some reason the Third Person perspective wasn't working for me with this one. I can't remember another time when it's bothered me, but it missed the mark for me this time. Wasn't bad -- just not my jam.
