Sisters of Bloodcreek #2

Sleep, Don't Fret

Rate this book
Eva and Frost are pretty stoked about their blooming hunting skills, but when they finally meet Raylan's sister, Tess, after a witch doctor hunt in New Orleans, the group dynamic gets rather awkward.

Tess wants to kill Knox straight up dead. As in, drag him up from the bottom of the old mine shaft and use Tess' favorite snake from the Louisiana bayou to finish the job. Eva loves the idea of bonding with Tess and being extra sure Knox will never come back to harm them, but Maggie ain't thrilled at the idea, and Frost is a little distracted by her new cowboy boy-toy.

When Tess gets attacked by the Despairity, Eva and Raylan race back to New Orleans to help. Maggie isn't answering her phone, and what Tess shows Eva in her secret basement is something no one expects, and it's gonna test everyone's relationships.

The hunters have to decide where their loyalties lie: family, friends, or love.

Like the first book, I really enjoyed this but had a few issues with it.
First off: Let me say how much I love Mary Gray and Cammie Larsen's writing. Together they have such strong voices and I love the way these books come together. I basically read this book in one morning, and that was between doing school, so clearly it pulled me in for the ride.
I'm still a bit iffy about labelling these books as Christian because;
1. They're very dark
2. They have quite a few demonic elements
Obviously this is to be expected and the main characters are hunting these dark creatures but there are no conversations about God, the power of God against demons, or even the main characters praying when in horrible situations. That's what makes these books not as powerful as they could be.
Another issues I had with this is that one of the characters gets hurt and is taken to someone with magic. She wakes up and can feel the power as it heals her. She's grateful even though it's not 'holy' magic. Yet at the beginning of this book, they were chasing down a witch doctor who did pretty much the same thing.
So basically it's wrong to use that magic unless the main characters need it. Which is not how I want a Christian novel to portray dark magic. I'm probably taking these books too seriously in that aspect but it's just a personal perspective on it. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels this way.
Still, I am excited for book three. I can't wait to dive in.

"It's the kind of dark that makes you see things that aren't there."

Only, in Sleep, Don't Fret the scary things we all fear are there--creeping around every corner and threatening to suck the life from you.

One of my favorite things about this series is its authentic sisterly bond. It's shared in a way that could only come from real-life sisters, like Mary and Cammie. Their relationship and the way they protect, honor, and love each other are what makes these books so compelling. Not to mention, the awesome love stories the two sisters are living. Leo is one of my new favorite Byronic heroes--the perfect mix of sullen and serious but with this mysterious, hidden kindness that is so endearing.

This book takes readers from one dangerous scenario to another, lives at stake at every turn. This action-packed, character-driven tale is a must for those who love a unique story of ghouls, demons, and deliciously spooky things.

"Sleep, Don't Fret" by Mary Gray and Cammie Larsen

Frost and Eva are back, and boy, do they have a story to tell!

In New Orleans, the girls team up with Raylan, Maggie, and newcomer Beau to trap a renegade witch doctor ... and that's just in the first chapter! Then they meet Raylan's sister, Tess. Their first impression of her is that she's a predator, a hunter of the highest caliber. And they're right. Her target is Blurred Ones. In particular, the evil Knox. She even has the means to his end: a snake named Zombi. But when Eva learns of a terrible secret Tess has been hiding, she knows none of them can trust her ... not even Tess's brother.

Danger lurks around every corner in this entertaining novel. Not only does this book have suspense, it also has a little sweet romance. While Frost is missing her dear Leo, she has to watch her sister and Raylan enjoying each other's company. She also has her hands full with lusty Beau, who wants to be more than friends.

These two amazing authors have penned a story with unexpected twists and thrills to keep you breathless. The characters' lives are in peril 90% of the time, and their success is never certain. I highly recommend this riveting novel. But beware! The power of evil is very strong.

Love these sisters/characters! This is a really fun series that I will continue with (hint, hint so keep writing!). The series is full of action/adventure, paranormal, a twist on ghost mythology, and quirky characters who are very likable. None of them are perfect but that's part of what makes them relatable. Engaging and full of asides that made me chuckle, I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

Very rarely do I love the second book in a series more than the first, but Sleep, Don't Fret pulled me in right away! I loved all the original characters and their quirks, but I also enjoyed the new characters and villains in book 2. Frost and her supernatural love triangle was the best. <3 Can't wait for book 3!

🌺My Review🌺
Meet Tess, Raylan's sister. She wants to get rid of Knox, kill him. Eva, eager to be on Tess's good side agrees.
Drama unfolds, the despairity are hungry for power... but how hungry?

As the second book in a trilogy, it definitely didn't let me down! It was just as good as the first! Full of twists and unexpected turns, Mary and Cammie have produced a thrilling second installment to this trilogy.

I wasn't sure what to think of Tess when we first met her. She seemed off, like she had bad intentions and ONLY bad intentions on her mind. To add some light onto Tess, she's headstrong, determined and smart. She cares a lot about family but by the looks of it, that's all she cares about.
The ending to this book just left me with an open mouth and an eagerness to dig into Rise, Take Flight.
I feel terribly sorry for Eva. The poor girl never has a break.

I would highly recommend reading this series if you love paranormal books, books with action and a lot of spice! 🤩

Review

This book was a whirlwind I couldn't read fast enough! The plot twist was THICC!! The characters were fantabulous as expected because book 1 was equally amazing! I've been disappointed by book 2's in the past but this book picked up where book 1 left off and the transition and sync was perfect. The writing style is brilliant and simple at the same time (what I mean is it will be easier for non-native english speakers too) the element of fantasy was impeccable, the cover adds to the intrigue and the mystery lures in the readers!

In this book we have dual POV like in book 1 and a few new characters enter into the fray. I loved how the author had portrayed Tess and Lindy's character's because they were so well written even though they're not MCs, my favorite character apart from the MC's in this book was definitely Leo. The book ends in a cliffhanger like book 1 so I won't go into detail on the plot but their life gets even more interesting after Knox's appearance in their lives.

The adventures seem so real, that you get taken into a fantasy world that you can’t resist. You get to know the sisters through their own thoughts, and they are so likeable, who wouldn’t want to go on this fun and wildly adventurous journey with them? Eva’s charismatic and easy-to-be-around personality attracts us to her, and we can’t help but giggle when reading her thoughts. Frost’s inner light continues to shine as she defends against the evil ones. The romances warm your heart and the positive male attention leaves you breathless and longing for more.

I was very excited to get an early copy of this book. I feel like it took me forever to post this review (sorry), but life tends to get in the way of good books. Ha! Now, onto the book. Oh my goodness! I loved the first book and the second is no different. I was hooked to the story line from the very beginning and it led me down twists and turns all the way to the glorious end. Book 3, yes please! (hint, hint...keep going!) ;)

If you want to read a book that will keep you on your toes, this one is it. I cannot express just how much of a blast I had while co-writing this with Cammie! She had me cracking up, and all those boys! We LOVED researching the book in New Orleans.
