Drip Drop Dead

Rate this book
Emma Frost is chasing a killer that seems to bend the laws of physics.

Things are going well for Emma Frost for once. She has a sweet boyfriend and has just finished a new book. Her daughter, Maya, is doing well in high school and even Victor is thriving and playing with his new best friend, the strange girl who fell from the sky.

But soon, a murder shocks the island of Fanoe, when a woman is found dead in her bed with no obvious signs of having been killed. But as they find out she died by drowning, and more deaths like it begin to occur around the peaceful island, Emma once again finds herself following signs that lead to her own front door while chasing a killer quite out of the ordinary.

Soon, Emma has to ask herself the question: What exactly is going on in her island home and especially underneath it?

As the investigation moves on and terrifying answers begin to emerge, Willow Rose's compelling story evolves rapidly, resulting in a novel with almost agonizing suspense.

Drip Drop Dead is the 12th book in the Emma Frost series, a set of heart-stopping mysteries with a dash of thrilling horror. If you like small-town mysteries, eerie tales, and a touch of humor, then you’ll love Willow Rose’s creepy whodunnit. No one is more addictive than Willow Rose.

Emma Frost writes a book that she thinks her readers will love, but her publisher won't publish it, so she does it herself. At first everyone is saying that it is a terrible book. Her publisher asks her why she did that? It hurts her creditability with her readers, even though she published it under fiction. While that is going on there are people dying in strange ways. They are full of water and there is puddles of water around them where ever they maybe, in bed, a chair, the bathroom. Emma thinks something or someone is killing these people. When the widower comes to her house and tells her he had the water tested and found human DNA in it. What?! All the victims also worked at some time or another at Omicon. That has to be the connection. But things come to a head when her daughter, is attacked in the shower and then Emma actually sees the creature with her own eyes. You will not believe the outcome of this story! You will never look at a water drain the same again either!

Drip Drop Dead by Willow Rose is Book 12 of the Emma Frost books. I like all Willow Rose books, she is one of my “Go To” authors for thrillers. Many of her novels are part of a series and one of my failings is I pick one of her novels not in order. That is OK because I have never found one of her novels not to be a stand-alone novel. Rose presents enough of a back story to not frustrate me but not enough so there is a teaser element and I want to move on to another novel to get a complete character picture. Note that this is Book 12 so there are a lot of backstory teasers and I look forward to reading more in this series.

The first half of Dead is set up but that does not mean lack of action. We find mysterious deaths by drowning. Usually, drowning victims are found near bodies of water; ponds, pools, lakes, places to which they traveled and met unfortunate ends. Not in this novel. The water travels to, actually pursues, the victims. Against this background, we find interesting characters.

Emma Frost, the writer lives in an interesting household with interesting relationships. There is not a husband but an interesting detective playmate, Morten, appears occasionally with updates on investigations into mysterious water deaths and perhaps to satisfy Emma’s occasional needs. There are “children” who a reader may assume didn’t appear on earth through a normal birthing process involving Emma. To find out if this is true, read the story. Maya, a somewhat willful, independent teenager lives in the Frost home while retreating into occasional flashbacks about a previous boyfriend who was a serial killer. Vincent, a boy a few years younger, goes to a special school for students with mental challenges. He requires the care and supervision of others for daily tasks such as dressing. Skye, a younger girl, tends to levitate a lot and is the only person in the family who can communicate well with Victor. They do so by telepathy. Emma has been a successful author up to the point where this story opens. In a fit of pique directed at her publisher’s unwillingness to publish her latest project, she follows the indie publishing route. Emma, with her author and amateur investigator career, provide the overall context of the novel. She reveals a great truth about the central requirement to be a successful author. I don’t believe it is a spoiler, I will mention it below. It is a great temptation for at least one reader, me, to assume this is almost autobiographical Willow Rose.

This is a fast-paced action novel I read in one session. One of the things unique for me is the social setting of the story. Set in Denmark on Fanoe island, the setting is one of social care and respect for the rights but also the responsibilities of everyone. Wide latitude is given to one and all for independent behavior. One neighbor reminds another that it is a duty to shovel snow so no one gets hurt. Emma finds it natural that Victor speaks to her rather harshly, chalking it up as a natural process of a special needs child. Emma speaks to Maya as if she were an adult and accepts a boyfriend sleeping over in her room. Emma has no problem with the levitating Skye and no problem in raising her without fear of government intervention. Emma’s playmate, policeman Morten, has no problem accommodating Emma’s hiding of Skye from authorities. Morten also turns a blind eye to Emma’s constant hacking of police database information about mysterious deaths.

Everything combines to make a great story, one that is unusual enough to keep me reading Willow Rose books. The great secret revealed in this novel is about writers and perhaps about Willow Rose.

The fuel for writers, perhaps the Muse in physical form, is chocolate chip cookies.

On to more Willow Rose stories. I gave this novel five Amazon stars for what I thought was a creative mix of genres; mystery, crime, and (almost) paranormal.

Administrative note:

This novel is available through Kindle Unlimited. For me, that means reading is next to free because I read at least one novel or short story collection per day and most are available on Kindle Unlimited. I read on my laptop and sometimes on my phone. On my Android, there is something called Flip Mode. It seems that if I read on a device with Flip Mode enabled, the author doesn’t get paid. Willow Rose encourages readers to read her novels with Flip Mode disabled in an Important Message note (Kindle Loc 94). I make sure to read Willow Rose novels on my laptop. Her writing skills deserve a financial reward.

Drip Drop Dead - a review by Rosemary Kenny

The Queen of Scream, Willow Rose does it again! Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the shower after Psycho, she's just boosted bath sales/use by a gazillion per cent - she should be on a bonus!
Drip Drop Dead is book 12 in the amazingly scary Emma Frost series and it should come with a scare rating of about 100, as the quiet island of Faroe, where author Emma Frost and her children Daniel, Victor and Maya live is under attack by an alien-water being, that is seemingly able to drown people in their beds etc, when there's no water-source nearby.

If you like a scarily possible 'what if...?' paranormal spine-tingler, then this one's for you!
Try the whole series and remember not to read these 'thriller, killer, secrets-spiller' stories alone!

Supernatural Horror With Huge Cliffhanger

Overall, this is a well-written horror/murder mystery with excellent characters, who are gradually introduced by the author without fanfare. I haven’t read many Willow Rose books, but I didn’t have any problems following the storyline—which is well-plotted with subplots about the protagonist, her daughter, and their romances.

The main, supernatural storyline is fast-paced and intense, but the mild-moderate romances were slower, angst-ridden and heavily introspective.

I rated “Drip Drop Dead” 4 stars, until the abrupt non-ending with the major threads unresolved. At that point, I was annoyed enough to award no stars, but as usual, my right brain took over. Had I known this book was not a stand-alone, I would never have read it.

I prefer books that tie up storyline threads, even if that book is part of a series. If the author first resolves the storylines, and then closes with an epilogue where the protagonist(s) rush to a new adventure, I’m okay with that.

I liked the primary storyline and the writing was good, so I went with 3 stars instead of 2.

I look at a picture of Willow Rose, a smiling face of fresh innocence, well maybe a slight twinkle in those beautiful eyes, and I wonder how she comes up with such shocking, captivating and absolutely crazy storylines. That twinkle must be her over the top imagination. This is book 12 for Emma Frost and it’s as good, maybe even better than the beginning books. Right from the start Emma is faced with her latest book, that means so much to her, not accepted by her publisher. From there the craziness begins touching her children, Maya and Victor, and her love life. No spoilers, it’s too good, you have to read it! In fact, it’s a great read!

This clusterfuck isn’t getting any better.

Never have I encountered a person so immature as Emma Frost. Jeasleous of her son, jealous of her boyfriend’s daughter, thinking she’s the best author in the world, can’t accept criticism and is constantly eating.

Also this whole supernatural stuff is just plain stupid.

Unexplained murders of people by drowning while in theirs beds or chairs are happening on Fanoe Island. Also Emma decides to publish her book about a 100 year old vampire that is true but obviously no one knows that.
Many authors publish different genre books so I didn’t understand why this was an issue and why Emma couldn’t just do a press release and explain that she wanted to write fiction now.
Morten is still having issues with his daughter. I understand Emma’s frustration but could she not foresee the issues that would take place by her forcing Morten to choose.
The disappearance of the plumber in the last book is explained in this book. Also Skye who’s relationship with Victor I really enjoyed is explained in this book as well.
It’s not that the sci-fi aspect of this book was bad I just found it unnecessary. Without giving the ending away I felt like some of the explanations to things could have still been made to be reality rather than out of this world.

A very intriguing story! There's something in the water ! In this story the school Fishy Pines is an institution. The building has been there for years. People have secrets about what's been going on Fanoe Island. People have died to keep the secrets, while others are institutionalized. Emma Frosts' son Daniel goes to Fishy Pines. Skye, a little girl who showed up one day, is she from Fishy Pines ? Emma's boyfriend Morten is a policeman. Emma is always asking him questions and for favors about the deaths and mysterious happenings. I am stopping here before I write a whole page. You will love this book as much as you've loved all of the other books !!! ❤🍵💋

Ann is hearing water dripping in their bathroom. She also hears slithering sounds. She dies in her bed. She drowned. How can someone drown when they're not in water? Then it happens again and again. There are secrets on Fanoe Island. Some people have died to keep the secrets. Others have been put in a mental hospital. What is going on? Come along on this roller coaster ride and find out. After reading this book you may decide baths are better than showers. Then again maybe not.
This story is well thought out and well written. The story flows. Adjectives for this book? Scary, creepy, suspenseful, fast-moving,

Great book

I've been reading the emma frost series nonstop and after reading some of the reviews about this book I'd have to say I enjoy it. If you've followed the series you'd know that victor has been off since the beginning and strange things have always happened. This is not like the Sci fi that some readers were upset about and comparing it to. It's very intriguing and it was hard for me to put down because I had to know more. Emma's life since coming to the island has been far from normal and let's face it we do live among the scientists who like to experiment. We have no idea what they're up to. This book is great especially if you have a vivid imagination.

"The Proof Is In The Water"

This segment of the awesome series is a nail biting, mind-bending suspense with a shocking ending. On the island of Fanoe, things are going well for Emma Frost until a woman is found in her bed with no signs of having been murdered. But it has been discovered her death was caused by drowning. And then ... there are more similar deaths. A shocking story you'll not be able to put down. I'm anxiously waiting for the next sequel. This author sure knows how to make me scream.

This is my first book that I have read in the series - even though it is number 12 in the series
There were a couple of times where I could tell that there was information from previous books that I did not know about - but all in all it was pretty easy to follow
There is "something" loose in the plumbing - and it is killing people. One person drowns in her own bed.
Emma's children are interesting and add a lot to the story. I think my favorite character is Skye - I may have to read the next book to find out more, All in all in was a fun read

What?? I'm in the middle of an engrossing story when, suddenly, I see, "THE END". Puzzled (because it's obviously NOT), I read through the last couple of pages again trying to find what I missed. Then I read on to the author's comments where she says the story will be continued in the series. I've hunted through Amazon on several different devices to find the next one in the series (after all, this is two years old). There is no next one!!

I would have given five stars if I weren't so disturbed by being left hanging. What happens to Skye?

I have loved all of the Emma Frost books, but this one was a little weird for me. I do not like science fiction type books and this is definitely science fiction. So, I was a little disappointed in it. However; I did finish it, because I am so invested in the characters. I will read Black Frost next, although I know it will be more science fiction-type reading, because I never quit a series. I am striving to read all of her series of books.

I do love Willow Rose's books, and she is an excellent writer with a very vivid imagination!!!

I rarely read this type of suspense book. But I was surprised at how much the story did pull me in. It did make me leery about taking a shower though! The pace was fast moving and it was full of suspense. I haven't read the other Emma Frost stories and would say that the book would be more enjoyable if I had all the backstory. The story did wrap up in this installment but did leave some open ends for the next story.

unexpected twist in the series

at this point in the series, it has definitely taken a huge unexpected turn. Emma, and her family, are facing something they never thought they would face. In fact, no one would ever think this would be something they would have to face! Strange, totally unexpected, and strong disbelief. These are just some of the things that Emma and her family are dealing with.

While I’m not a great fan of most horror stories, I am a great fan of Willow Rose books. This story is well-written, with many twists and turns to heighten the suspense. You just don’t know what’s coming next, so you don’t want to stop reading. The reveal is jaw-dropping and certainly sets you up to want to read the next book. I will have to say I now keep one foot on the drain while I’m taking a shower!! Well done, Ms. Rose!

No, just no. This book was completely stupid and boring and awfully written. The authour knows absolutely nothing about Mental Health, or the supernatural, or horror, or thrillers for that matter. I have read all this series and will read the rest, but really..... Now I love a good horror (love Stephen King and Dean Koontz) and a good thriller (Karin Slaughter, Michael Connolly, James Patterson) but this!!!! , ummmm no.

Drip Drop Dead

So after reading this book you maybe afraid to even enter the bathroom! Something is lurking in the sewer pipes in Fanoe Island but what is it? There had been people dying from apparent drowning in there own beds and Emma has been asked by a widowed husband to help figure out what really is going on! While Morten is having his own family issues, what will become of Emma and Morten!

Always enjoy the Emma Frost series. This one was no exception. Kept me interested and hooked the whole time. I wanted to know more with the turn of every page. When I reached the end, I wasn't expecting it to end. I would have liked the story to go on a bit longer. Looking forward to the next book.

I love this author. She's right up there with Stephen King for me. This book kept my attention from beginning to end. Can't wait for next book to come out. Interesting characters, thrilling dialog, and despite the fact that she left me in the dark about one of the main characters I loved the story.

Another Great Emma Frost Story

I love reading the Emma Frost books. The characters are so real. Even though Emma gets involved in some creepy situations it's all believable the family is easy to become familiar with. Even a creature made of water becomes believable with Emma on the case.

Wow, Emma Frost sure finds herself in some predicaments. I can't wait to see what happens next. Water people are they real? I would call them shifters. What is going to happen to her man are they going to never see each other Again? So many questions unanswered until book 13 comes out.

AN AWESOME READ!!

Water, Water everywhere and not a drop to drink willing. Things are not going well at the Frost house. Because, odd things are going on in the Frost house. Seem like she a magnet for odd children. Meanwhile, a Biotech research facility has seemed to have lost important research projects.
A little bit of a SciFi, makes for an AWESOME READ!!
