The book cover is nice. It shows the villain, Gorgon and some of the dangerous dragons he has as his followers. Gorgon’s figure is quite awe inspiring especially since he has writhing tentacles on his head!.The story begins where it left off in the first book but it’s 14 months later. It’s quite evident that Samantha and Jake, the main protagonists of this story, aren’t getting along well.

The story takes a complete twist right away when a Komodo dragon, gives them a visit demanding the WhipEye from Sam, who is the guardian of it. WhipEye is the magical staff that’s very powerful and helps Sam and Jake do things such as transport themselves to other places, call for help from the Great ones of the magical world, Kiraku and much more. However, Sam doesn’t give away the staff, showing how much of a stronghold the staff has over her. This results in the Komodo poisoning Sam’s father and Jake’s mother. If they don’t get a cure for this poison in 2 days, they will die!. The ensuing plot is everything that happens in these 2 days.

This time around, there are many more characters, introduced by the author. They are quite interesting, some of them mutants and some exaggerated in size when compared to how they should be in real life. Personally Gorgon is an awesome villain. He is that guy who smiles while talking but stabs from the back when he gets a chance, which makes him all the more dangerous. He takes advantage of the rift between Sam and Jake and pits them against each other in a battle. It’s a race against time. More about Lessers (who have left Kiraku long time ago), Great Ones and Originals are revealed this time around. Their history and the anger they have in them is all expressed well. Some characters have double characters whereby they seem friendly but have hidden agendas.

All in all, it’s interesting to know the powers of each character. They can transform into humans and do much more at their own will. One of the best parts I like is the training of Sam & Jake by two dragons who can convert themselves into ninja warriors. The learning is set at the right pace and is very exciting to read. Charlie, the thousand year old parrot, introduced in the first book is still the wise cracking parrot he was before. Some of his talks are inappropriate for the situation, while at other times they are pretty funny.

I like the author, Geoffrey Saign’s, imagination in creating such characters and furthering the plot after the first book. This book definitely will capture the interest of the audience that it’s meant for, that is anyone above age 10. One thing I have to say is that this is not a stand alone book. You definitely need to read book one, WhipEye, to understand everything in this book. The ending of this book leaves you wanting to know more. The next book, Drasine, is coming up in 2016!.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This fantasy is full of excitement. Toward the end it had me turning the pages quickly to see the outcome. The evil villain, Gorgon, is depicted as being someone no one can trust. He turns Jake's and Sam's lives upside down when he sends a Komodo dragon to steal WhipEye. What ensues is a daring attempt to save the lives of both children's parents and a potential war between Lessers, Originals, and Great Ones. Much like the first book, this is well worth the read.

Estranged friends and neighbors, Jake and Samantha, celebrate a special dinner hosted by Bryon (Samantha’s father) and Cynthia (Jake’s mother), but the festivities are interrupted when a giant Comodo Dragon crashes the private party, demanding the WhipEye staff be handed over to Gorgon. When the children refuse, Bryon and Cynthia are attacked, leaving them fighting for their lives. Armed forces quickly arrive, taking both children prisoner, whilst using their ailing parents’ lives as leverage to get answers. With the help of friends and the WhipEye, Jake and Samantha escape to safer ground, but must hurry to find an antidote to save their parents, whilst hiding from their kidnappers. With time not on their side, and the added discovery that one of their dearest friends – possibly the only one they can trust – is in grave danger, the children use extreme caution in an effort to save their parents, protect the inhabitants of KiraKu, as well as the people of Earth. Achieving these things, whilst fighting a battle filled with death and blood-shed, and without falling under WhipEye’s luring spell, is a whole lot harder than it sounds.

The allure of The WhipEye Chronicles is one that I simply cannot resist. Geoffrey Saign has created other-worldly creatures which can take on many forms, whether in their home dimension of KiraKu or on Earth. In true form, the book dashes from a peaceful, celebratory introduction, before fast becoming a mass of action, drama, thrill and mystery. I strongly recommend that the books from the WhipEye Chronicles are read in order, so that the reader is able to thoroughly grasp the important role that each character of the story plays. Although many new characters are introduced, some old favorites return, creating a feeling of happiness and recognition, which brings a smile to the face of this particular reader. I tip my hat to Geoffrey Saign - not only for the amazing continuity between the first and second books, but also for the well-roundedness in each of the characters, whilst leaving the reader guessing whether each one is friend or foe. I thoroughly enjoyed Gorgon from beginning to end, and recommend it to readers of all ages, especially those between 8-14, who are fans of epic adventures from out of this world.

Saign has done it again! Gorgon is the book following WhipEye about two young children who discovered a whole new world of mysterious beings and unbelievable adventure. In this sequel both children are changed by their experiences and are aware that something big is about to happen and that they are not the same anymore. More and more Sam and Jake are experiencing dreams of Kiraku almost a year since the last event. Sooner than they know it, their world is turned upside down with the reappearance of Charlie followed by an attack by a lesser being.

From that moment on, the children are in a race against time to save the world, and their parents lives. In this story there is another character introduced called Mentore who also happens to be known as King Kong. Can Sam and Jake, with the help of the old gang from WhipEye, and King Kong be enough to accomplish these tasks? You will have to read the book and see. Very well written, and easy to follow story for young teens. I recommend this book!!!

Gorgon, is a terrific middle grades book. Although I came into this story on the middle, I had no trouble keeping up with the backstory. It follows the next step in the story of Samantha and Jake who have had some time to rest from saving the world, but they haven’t quite recovered from their ordeal. Both are still affected by what happened and before they can really begin to talk about it they are thrown headlong into a new adventure that not only threatens the safety of both Earth and KiraKu, but could mean that they lose their parents. The ancient schism in KiraKu leading to so many of its residents living in our world is finally coming to a head and Samantha and Jake will find that they can only trust in each other to get to the other side of it.

I love mythology origin stories and this one has done a fabulous job explaining the explainable. The denizens of KiraKu make for a rich tapestry to set this story against. The twist and turns in the story kept my head spinning and opened the door beautifully for a new sequel. Especially fun is Samantha’s encylopedia-like knowledge of animal species. This book is a must for the nerds around your house. I also truly appreciated that the story was equal opportunity. Too often MG stories are written about and for a specific gender. A story like this will appeal to both.

I love the main characters in this story, Sam (Samantha) and Jake. They have a fun friendship that I feel like really shows how 12/13 year olds would behave towards each other and the situations that arise. It's believable and they haven't been matured past their real age like so many stories do. It keeps the youthfulness in the story. Sam's knowledge of animals and quirkiness is one of my favorite parts of the book. There's so many varieties of animals in the book and I love it when she randomly stops in a high stress situation and spouts off the animals name and scientific aka name. She hasn't been glorified into a crazy girl hero. She's a regular girl chosen, along with Jake, to help the world of KiraKu and the Great Ones. The story takes you on a intense journey as they try to get the antidote for a poison that Sam's dad and Jake's mother ended up with after a battle with a giant Komodo dragon sent by the power thirsty Gorgon. Definitely a recommended book for early teens. The concern Sam has for animals really keeps the fighting to a minimum and little harm to people or animals.

This story begins where it left off in book one, WhipEye only it is 14 months later. We see that our main characters Samantha and Jake are not getting along as the sory opens. Things get interesting right from the beginning when a Komodo dragon demands the WhipEye from Samantha, who is it's guardian. If you read book one you know that the WhipEye is a powerful magical staff that helps Samanta and Jake transport themselves to other places. It also calls them for help from the great ones of lthe magical world. The Komodo dragon is not happy that Samantha will not give up the WhipEye and poisons her father and Jakes mother and they have to get a cure for the poison in two days or their parents will die. The story is about what happens in thoes two days. In order to find out what takes place and if and how they find the cure you will need to read this most exciting story for yourself.

I was given a free copy for an honest review of this book. I enjoyed reading it and I think it was a well-crafted book for young adults.

From the beginning we know that something is not quite right with Sam and Jake. The author cleverly leads us carefully along a path that seems normal and perfect on the surface but is, in fact, deep and mysterious.

The author opens up questions about the importance of the environment and the natural world. He builds up believable and relevant worlds that his young readers will identify with.

This fast moving, action packed adventure will certainly keep young readers enthralled, it certainly did me! The characters are well developed and relatable to the book’s intended audience. As a follow up from WhipEye, which I have also read and reviewed, Gorgon certainly doesn’t let us down. I think your family will enjoy reading it.

Gorgon had a lot of action, adventure and thrilling scenes that's great not just for middle graders but even for much older kids (and kids at heart). I love nature and am very pleased that the book introduces us to a whole bunch of unknown animals, at least to me. My brain actually had a hard time imagining how the characters look like and how the scenes unfold. Everything was fast-paced and even in the 'slow' scenes, you can't help but still feel on edge because you keep on wondering how things will come out at the end. I am amazed at the awesome plot twists and turns especially at the very end. Awesome, awesome book. I can't wait to read the next installment in this series.

I had the pleasure of reading book one of Whip Eye Chronicles and I didn't think anything could top it, but I was wrong. Samantha and Jake only have a few days to save their parents before the poison takes their life. These two along with the help of friends must travel to KiraKu to get the antidote. They will encounter many new creatures friends and foes.
This story had such an interesting plot that was fast paced and easy to follow . Each character had a role to play and all played them well. I can see many young children reading this story and letting themselves getting taken away into the story and have their imagination run wild. All in all another great story. Hope to read more from this series!

Samantha and Jake are thrown into the world of mystery once again. They have to save their parents, but are torn between two worlds. This time the mystical land of KiraKu is threatened by Gorgon. Sam and Jake control or are controlled by Whipeye once again and have to decide what is the right thing to do. Gorgon is full of adventure and action. It is fast paced and an action packed sequel to Whipeye. The adventure continues and the reader will be left wanting more.

Jake and Sam need the antidote to save their parents. If they enter KiraKu and get the Jewel of Origin, Gorgo promises to give them the antidote and Rose. Will he keep his promise? Will they save their parents? Who can they trust? Adventure. Fantasy. Great characters. The author weaves an awesome adventure. I look forward to reading book 3. After reading WhipEye, I was anxious to read the sequel ... I was not disappointed! As much as I liked the first book, I enjoyed Gorgon even more. The character development, action, and pacing kept me hooked and, as the story neared the end, I found myself anticipating what questions may be answered in his next book, Drasine.
