Reading books like this reminds me of how much fun our in branch story time programs have been in the past. We look forward to having them start again once we can have programs in our buildings in a post COVID world. Meanwhile, pick up this book with your favorite kiddos and get down to the beat of the book. The more the merrier! This book is one of the 2021 Missouri Building Block Picture Book Award nominees. Voting will begin on September 1, 2021. See this link for more info: http://molib.org/awards/building-bloc... *Reviewed by Darla from Red Bridge*
Teachers, parents, and caregivers had better prepare themselves for plenty of movement and noise as they read this picture book, which is decidedly not meant for quiet times or suited for a bedtime story. Instead, readers are encouraged to stomp in different directions and speeds and even mimic riding a horse. By the time the final page has been reached, everyone in the class should be wide awake and ready to learn. It won't take long to share this interactive read aloud, but it will be worth the effort in getting your youngsters off to a good start or waking them up when they need to shake off their sluggishness. As exuberant as the text, the brightly-colored illustrations have been created with mixed media and digital techniques.
Fine, serviceable. I could definitely use it for a Book Bop Dance Party (would that we could do in-person library programs again). The illustrations though. The illustration content (or style even) isn't that bad, but they're one step up from MS paint in terms of process. It's a cheap quality that I absolutely hate. Like... just spring for Procreate!
This is a book that appears to have been written for storytimes. And it would be a good storytime pick if read with enthusiasm, but there's no actual story contained within the book, just directions to get the audience moving.
If you want to get your inactive preschooler moving, this would be a good book to read. I have never had an inactive preschooler, so... this was just kind of boring.
