Carissa Williams is a young, serious, college student. She joins a Bible study, even though it is banned. Since her major, Christian Religious Studies, has been cancelled, she seeks meaning through philosophy, friendship, and the Bible study. She is drawn to John Spencer, a campaign manager, to fill her inner emptiness. Carissa becomes a champion in winning souls for Christ, as do Sally Sullivan, daughter of UW-Oshkosh's Dean, and Bible study leader, Alex Richardson. Constant danger encircles the group's efforts. Carissa falls in love with John while developing a growing relationship with Jesus. She ultimately faces a daunting decision that will forever change her life. The Casting of Crowns points the reader, along with Carissa, to Bible truths, and prompts each to consider his or her everlasting destiny as the signs of the times point to the soon Second Coming of Christ. Author_ Betsy Borchardt is the author of her first Christian fiction book and is a seasoned writer of articles for church publications. She and Andy, her husband, have been married since 1980 and reside in the village of Redgranite, Wisconsin. Betsy's passion is sharing her creativity in the literary and visual arts. This novel about the last days is a bible study in disguise. The intention - drawing people to Jesus and preparing Christians for the times of tribulation - are good, the result not so much. The novel lacks suspense and Carissa's thoughts and actions are more than naive and not always relatable. It's an important issue and deserves better narration.

The novel is clearly written from an Adventist point of view and anti-Catholic.

This book was written by my good friend from high school. It depicts a world in chaos, with natural disasters and false prophets. The college student Carrisa works hard to maintain her faith, despite all odds. I found it very thought provoking and wondered if I could keep my faith when it could mean my death. Thank you Betsy for your book and leading me closer to my Lord.
