When it comes to old English manor houses, there are always rumours about them being haunted, but no one believes it. Especially when they are eagerly buying one for a song. But perhaps that’s a big mistake?
The old manor seemed the perfect place for a bed and breakfast, and Alison put all of her money into it, determined to make a go of it. But from the start, something wasn’t quite right. The locals didn’t want to work for her, and the rumours of odd happenings were disturbing.
Then, when items went missing, and were later found in odd places, Alison rationalised – ghosts didn’t exist, did they? But there was no making sense of the rows of keys that kept appearing, always in the same place, and never where she’d left them. When a knife sliced her boyfriend chef’s hand, and their friend was tipped off a ladder and injured, whilst alone in a room, Alison began to get really nervous. But she couldn’t give up – could she? Then the kitchen was trashed, and the knives and pokers came flying at her, and she barely escaped alive. It was time to admit that there was a problem – a very deadly problem. Can Alison fix whatever ails Blakely Manor before someone gets killed? Or is it too late already?

A great story. It grabbed me from the very beginning and kept me hooked to the very end. I can't wait for the next book from this author. It made me to question the normal house noises in my own home while reading this book. If you enjoy ghost then this book is for you.
The first six chapters read like a rough draft. Starting with chapter seven (or eight?), it has good details, something that should have been consistent throughout the book.
SPOILERS BELOW...
Unless I skipped over an important chapter, the first mention of Paul is just that she's going to meet up with Paul for lunch...no explanation of who he is (other than his first name) and what his relationship to her is. They could have been nothing more than business associates, but eventually it becomes clear that he's her boyfriend. That should have been made clear the first time we see him; when they meet up, there could have been a little paragraph giving info about him, and/or some description of him in that scene.
Also, the first scene, a flashback, is so rough that I almost stopped reading after it. There should be some indication of how the maid reacted while the earl was shoving her into the priest hole. Really, there could have been a really vivid description of that interaction, and there just isn't, as though it's all a dream.
Revision, editing, and proofreading are good things. This would have been a much better book.
Cat Knight provides the perfect amount of suspense, adds an element of mystery for her charaters to solve, puts them in desperate situations in terrific locations and gives us great ghost stories as results. With The Haunting of Blakely Manor, she has another hit!
Alison has everything figured out! The numbers are all there. She is getting a bargain in Blakely Manor, and has enough to fix what's needed to get a bed and breakfast running. She has a "built-in" cook with her chef boyfriend. There is even a friend willing to handle publicity. It almost seems too good to be true. It is her dream.
Then the very first day she closes and steps inside, problems start. Is the voice she hears in her head, or actually there? How do keys keep moving around? Is it possible she is doing it herself, or is there some other explanaition?
Those are just the first and least harmful things to happen to Alison and her friends at Blakely Manor. Grab the book today and enjoy another thrilling Cat Knight ghost story!
Allison is living her dream, buying Blakely Manor for a song, in order to open a B&B. However, has she really gotten herself into a nightmare?
When she starts to hear voices, things are moved from room to room and cold spots appear, Allison begins to wonder if the Manor is haunted. Then, when her friends are injured while working on the Manor and poltergeist-type events occur, she begins to think that she has gotten herself into a real fix.
If you enjoy stories about ghosts and haunted houses, this is a good, short read that will definitely fit the bill. The writing is very good and there is just enough tension to make you look behind you if you hear a bump in the night. I received an early copy of this book and chose to review it.
Another great ghost story by Cat Knight. Follow Alison's journey in trying to open a bed and breakfast at Blakely Manor, a house full of strange occurrences and hauntings that threaten the lives of those who enter. I like that the reader is provided with a backstory, something to clue us in and make us wonder about the haunting that follows. Written in a way that makes it easy to view yourself in Alison's shoes, this story will keep you in the moment and eager to read more.
A couple wants to open a b and b in a manor that's haunted. This is another one where you get rid of an object the ghost will leave kinda story. Some loose ends as well in the story.
