Happy Garbaugust! I so badly wanted to love this book! Everything I’ve read by Victor Miller has been a home run however that was not the case with this short pulp crime thriller. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I felt like this novel moved TO FAST. At only 157 pages there was so much going on…rape, murder, a side story of a rapist girlfriend wanting Fernanda’s help killing him, then having him jailed, then saying nevermind just cure him of his addiction so I can continue dating him and then romantic entanglements with the three main characters..all coming at you so fast I found my self saying take a breath Mr. Miller! The story was definitely dated and I found myself looking up lots of stuff to see what he was talking about. The one shining light was that the ending was very good and not predictable and turned this 2 star read into a 3 star read for me. Such a great premise but, like most of the novels from the 70’s that I’ve read, just not very good…Victor Miller personally signed my copy for me though so I’m forever grateful and will cherish this book forever. It’s a fast paced read but not as good as I was thinking it would be. 3 stars
