as he think they always clashed to the international interest in the middle east

لو كنت سورياً فأنت بحق كوري،، لانك تعرف تماماً الحقد الذي يُخدِر عقلك،، تعرف كيف تطلب الحماية من الغرب والشرق وكيف تتعلق بوعود مسؤولين أجانب وتهديداتهم بالتدخل لصالحك وتعرف دائماً وفي وقت متأخر معنى الخذلان، كونك سوري فحتماً مرت عليك كذبة المناطق الآمنة والعازلة والممرات الإنسانية وفكرة إسقاط المساعدات بالطائرات ستكون خبيراً في الهروب من شرطة الحدود أو بكيفية تلقي الضربات من عسكر الجيوش المجاورة عندما تُضبط متسللاً، ستكون من حَفظة نظرة الشفقة وأحياناً الازرداء كونك لاجئ، مدركاً لبرد شتاء لا يعيشه حقاً إلا لاجئ مكسور النفس تائه العقل مفطور القلب ، تعرف معنى الفقد والخسارة ومخاض الشتات والبعث في مجتمعات حاضنة جديدة تتغير وتتبدل إلى أن تجد أخيراً أرضاً تؤوي خوفك وجزعك لتبعث فيك طمأنينة الوصول إلى نهاية المجهول التي يتبين لك لاحقاً أنه بحق ليس له نهاية ، تعرف معنى قصف المشافي وتكدس الجثث والمجازر القذرة،مجازر الأسلحة الكيميائية، والخوف من الطائرات المروحية،تستذكر أبطالاً صمدوا وآخرين اهتزو فحنثوا أو حادو فشذو، لن تكون مضطراً للتعرف على الخلافات والخيانات والغدر من قبل طالبي السلطان صائدي المكتسبات الباحثين عن الأضواء أياً كان مكانها، تعرف أنه عند غياب عدوك من رجال الأنظمة فأن أبطال الثورات سيقاتلون بعضهم بعضاً لو كنت سورياً فأنت بحق كوردي.

لا تختلف تجربة الأكراد عن السوريين اليوم بشيئ، تعيد نفسها تجاربنا بطريقة مثيرة للسخرية، سلط عليهم مجرم كصدام حسين و أنظمة إيرانية غدارة وجارة تركية جنرالاتها وكماليوها متعطشون للدماء ومعتدلوها أصحاب حلول ظالمة في أحسن حال ،، كما سلط على سوريا ال الأسد ومن خلف هذا وذاك دول كبرى وإقليمية لا تحمل أي مسؤولية أخلاقية.

الكتاب نتاج تجربة الصحفي الأمريكي جوناثان راندل في كردستان مع تفاصيل عديدة مثيرة ومميزة من أرض الواقع بين اللاجئين الأكراد الذين عاشوا مآساة اللجوء عشرات المرات، ومع المسؤلين الغربيين حيناً آخر، في رحلة تاريخية لنضال ملا مصطفى برزاني والكوارث المقصودة وغير المقصودة والأخطاء الساذجة والخيانات العظيمة التي تعرض لها واحد من أصلب شخصيات كردستان مع تاريخ امتد عشرات السنوات ، إلى ابنه مسعود وما بين الاثنين مام جلال، من قهر أكراد تركيا واستغلال ال بي كا كا لهم ولحالة العنف التركية الصارمة لتجنيد متطوعين جدد إلى خبايا المؤسسات التركية والتطور في المواقف الواعية لفجاعة الدور التركي،من جمهورية مهادباد التي قامت في إيران نتيجة لظروف دولية وزالت لمثل ذلك، إلى انتفاضات العراق العديدة ومن أهمها التي حصلت في ال 75  وإلى ما تلا حرب الخليج الثانية، حرب الأنفال وماساة حلبجة والاقتتال الكردي القبيح،، إلى الغرف المظلمة للسياسة في واشنطن أوربا إيران و تركيا والعراق ، انتقالا للعلاقات الكردية الإسرائيلية، انتقل الكاتب بين إيران تركيا العرق متطرقا لأوضاع الأكراد فيها وتأثير التطورات السياسية والعسكرية العالمية والإقليمية عليهم.


من أراد أن يرى أحداث اليوم بعين الماضي القريب عليه أن يقرأ الكتاب.

A candid, in-depth and incisive sketch on the geopolitics of Kurds in Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and Syria, expounding their strife with national and international actors in carving out a separate entity of Kurdistan.

I was intensely drawn to the plight of Kurds during the course of reading the extensive reportage in print media in the past few years. That they had been hunted, used and abused at every possible opportunity, hoodwinked by their one- time confidantes like the Shah of Iran, inveigled at pivotal moments by their most trusted ally and advisor, the US, and over everything, that they had once been strange bedfellows with their arch enemy Saddam Hussein, seemed something beyond me. Thus began my search for an unbiased account of these mountain people and I happened to chance upon this book during an exhibition. Randal, a W.P correspondent who owing to the nature of his job has had a first-hand grip on their history and geopolitics and endowed with numerous windows of opportunity in getting to know plebeian and patrician alike, has taken great pains in getting down to the nuts and bolts of Kurdish issue during his wartime reporting.

One ought to be patient right through, that's the only catch!

After Such Knowledge, What Forgiveness?: My Encounters With Kurdistan by Jonathan C. Randal is a moving study of the Kurdish question. The litany of betrayals and hurts faced by these redoubtable people is heart-breaking. Somehow they have struggled on and survived, and to this day, have a large share of the populations of Turkey, Iran, Syria, and Iraq. Expectedly, they are mistrusted and resented, and any attempt at autonomy is immediately quashed. The one high point in their history seems to have been Saladin, peerless in chivalry, conqueror of Jerusalem. But even he abandoned his Kurdishness as he settled into his sultanate. Since then, they have been assailed and scattered by greater powers, their identity denied and their culture whitewashed from history. Sadly, as with many other subjugated nations, when outsiders are not messing with them, there's internecine violence and factional strife to keep up the body count. (This book, published in 1993, is not current, meaning that the small uplift in fortunes of the Kurds (at least of those in Iraq) after the fall of Saddam Hussein has not been mentioned.)

With the possibility of an independent Kurdish state being established in Iraqi Kurdistan and with the Sykes-Picot colonial borders of 1916, in which Kurds have been entrapped for most of the last century, gradually unraveling as the murderous 'Islamic State', headed by some self-appointed caliph, rolls across Iraq, having already effectively abolished the Iraqi-Syrian border, to spread its barbaric ideology and the blood of its victims across the region, now is an imperative time for anyone concerned about the daily horror stories in our newspapers, or the nightly exhibition of conflict beamed into the cushioned safety of Western homes, to educate themselves about the Kurds and their long history as a repressed, hunted and betrayed people.

To that end, this book is excellent. I recommend it highly.
