Holly— She’s a twenty-year-old girl working towards getting over her traumatic past, and moving forward with her life. That means leaving the safety she’s found at the Evil Dead MC’s clubhouse, and returning to school and an apartment on campus.
Last thing she wants is her new biker bodyguard to think she’s a scared little child. So she bluffs her way through situations, pretending to be tough and fearless, when in reality she’s the complete opposite.
Holly can’t stand Joker—but tell that to her traitorous body. Why did he have to be so good looking? Why did he have to be the one to make her feel again? And why did he have to be the one man she can’t have?
JOKER— He has no idea what he’s done to earn the crap job of being this little brat’s new shadow, but he’s not about to let the president of his MC down. Joker was given one stipulation, she’s off limits. Holly may be a brat, but she’s also beautiful—and keeping his hands off her may be the death of him.
Joker isn’t about to stand for Holly’s bratty behavior. And he’s definitely not going to take any disrespect from her. For every stunt she pulls, he’s right there to drag her out of trouble and rein her in.
She was just a brat, until he saw her vulnerable side. She was just a tough little smartass, until he saw the fear she hid. She was just a job, until she wasn’t.
Nicole James is a USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author who loves writing about hot alpha men who'll do anything for the women they love! Her stories are filled with struggle, conflict and real human emotion. She is the author of the Evil Dead MC series, the Brothers Ink Tattoo series and more.
5 Holly and Joker Stars This is without a doubt one of my favourite books by Nicole James. It can easily be read as a standalone but it would help explain the gravity of Holly's backstory if you at least read 'Blood' first.
Joker is such a likeable hero and watching him fall for Holly made my heart happy. Holly has been to hell and back and she is still fragile despite the tough image she presents to the world. Joker is the perfect guy for her and she is absolutely the right girl for him. There is a bit of push/ pull and a little angst but the story flows well and is pretty hard to put down once you start.
Great to see the other characters from the Evil Dead MC . Also, I loved the relationship between Cat and Holly. If I had a sister, I'd want one like Cat.
I have to say I needed a little biker action to recover from my last few books with a cast of characters who had loved ones dying or have recently died and devastating love affairs. Hot bikers were what I needed and Joker delivered. Man did I love Joker. Holly is originally from Undertaker and has grown up (a little) but she is now back in school and Joker is there to protect her, which drives her crazy. The girl can't even go to a coffee shop and study. I can see how she wants to rebel. I was an undergrad and wanted to go to parties with my fiends, I totally get it Holly. Joker drags her out time and time again and Holly's had it. She starts playing little games with Joker, cause the girl in bored and immature, but there is some serious attraction. Problem is, Undertaker has deemed her hands off and Joker has to obey his President. When Undertaker sees their growing friendship and attraction to one another he takes off the leash and all bets are off. A misunderstanding (of course) leads Holly into a rival gangs territory and Joker must rescue her. *SIGH* I want a hot biker to rescue me please, especially if he's as tasty as this cover. Anyway....
All in all, a nice trip into NOLA without the plane fare.
BTW, I have to comment on this being book 9. Usually I'm annoyed with duets and trilogies, series that are too interconnected to be read as a standalone and series that drag on for nine books really bug me because most authors want to give readers a glimpse into the lives of all the previous book stars. Nicole James doesn't necessarily work that way. She may mention one or two, but not the entirety of the Evil Dead MC and that is why I'll read 10 and 11 and 12.... She gets it done with out providing a MC family tree.
Sometimes you just have to stop reading some series. I guess this is my limit with this one. Bratty heroine, bland hero and no chemistry. I just don't care anymore.
This series is one of my all time favorite! Joker was just as good as the others. Joker is the son of the last MC president who passed away when Joker was just a child and never knew him. Wouldn't be surprised if he became president later on as he has great potential and good instincts and very protective. Holly went through hell when she was kidnapped a while back and it was Undertaker who rescued her and got her therapy in the last book. She is finally moving on and going back to college. She is scared to death on the inside and outside she is a little brat. That is what Joker calls her. Joker is the one who is assigned to keep an eye on her and keep her safe and boy does she keep him on his toes. While keeping her safe he learns a lot about her and she does he. They both start to have feelings for each other but she is off limits to him. Can he keep her safe from both outside threats and most of all herself? Can she grow up enough to be with a hardened biker? What about his ex showing back up? Read this book and better yet go back to the beginning of this series read them all. As usual this book is for adults only.
3.5 stars. Definitely geared to the YA/NA genre. Hollie is 20 years old, recovering from some tragic circumstances and is very immature and childish. If you have read the previous books you know that Holly was introduced previously after being saved after an abduction. She attaches herself to Undertaker, the club president, and fancies them as a couple. She subsequently enrolls in college and Joker is assigned as her body guard. The shenagins and her behavior during the first half of the book reminded me of a preteen who's still to stupid to understand the danger of some situations. This was especially true considering what had happened to her in the past. With that said, it was still a pretty good love story and I really liked Joker's character. No cheating and a HEA.
Meh. Holly's bratty behaviour was a turn off. The chemistry didn't feel genuine and seemed a bit rushed close to the end. It was lacklustre and predictable - for example the growth of Joker's business after Miranda's article, the outcome of Holly's visit to her mom's trailer, the reemergence of Joker's ex. A whole chapter (I think 22) was spent summarizing developments. The inclusion of Joker's mom and her special 'talent' was laughable (and I don't mean that in a good way). It was good to see some beloved characters like Shades and Skylar, albeit too briefly, but not a particularly good addition to the series. Hope Hammer's book is better.

mostly the story was a bit cliched but it still held some surprises and i just love the writing style, the characters and the overall story arc so much that this still worked fine. the main female lead was still quite young and this emphasised her naivety which is something of a dampener for my enjoyment in many stories but in this case that part of her nature was acceptable because of her recent history and abuse. overall, a great addition to a fave series.
I like Nicole James and this series....I’ve read them all. But I didn’t care for this book...it just didn’t have any spark and felt like it was the same plot lines from other stories cobbled together . It also seemed like she didn’t follow through on details and it had typos. (Your/you’re, seriously?) Joker is supposed to be watching Holly, but he’s never around when she gets into trouble...this irritated me as the premise of their story is he’s assigned to watch her.... she’s supposedly emotionally scarred from being held captive by a bad biker club in the previous book , but she’s constantly out partying and putting herself in questionable situations....the story just felt half assed and not thought out.... I felt no chemistry and honestly didn’t finish this book. My last pet peeve was an old girlfriend showing up telling Holly she and Joker are back together. instead of talking to Joker, Holly storms out of town and puts herself in danger. Again. Honestly, she was exhausting and juvenile to me. I hope Nicole comes up with a better story next time and if she can’t, maybe it’s time to retire this series....it’s definitely going flat.
That man gave me the feels in all the right places. Once again Nicole James gave us yet another example of why she is one of my go to one click with out reading a blurb authors. Joker was awesome i loved it so much . Joker took on the protective roll given to him by undertaker and as much as he hated it at first he had a job to do and he wouldn't let his president down no matter how hard it was. Holly was a brat she knew it , everyone else knew it to. But it was a farce, just a cover to shield her heart and not let anyone get close enough to hurt her again. Joker knew it to . As time wore on no matter what games holly played , no matter what lengths she would go to to get a rise up out of him joker had the patience to wait it out and in turn slowly see what kind of woman Holly really was. I loved the funny banter between blood and joker and the brothers of the evil dead mc i had a gew laugh out loud moments. The story kept me intrigued and the way Nicole writes her books wants you coming back for more . I mean seriously these dudes are hot !.
I don't know where start I'm not very good at giving reviews cuz I don't want to go on and on, like now Bible!! Just take it from me when you see this rating you're not going to be disappointed when you read this book!! This MC series is a good one because Nicole James is a freaking brilliant writer that's just my personal opinion.. I've read a lot of mc books and this series every book is unique.. it keeps you there it's not actually the same thing over and over and repeated and you can't help but fall in love with each characters and there's no way you could have one favorite they are all your favorite cuz she makes you fall in love with them all!! Can't wait for Hammer!!!
Omg Joker and Holly gave me whiplash in the beginning, but seeing them fall in love was worth it. Undertaker knew exactly what he was doing when he gave Joker the job of protecting Holly the guy is a true matchmaker lol. I laughed, I cried and I didn't want their story to end. This is an amazing series and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Joker was a saint to have put up with the annoying, bratty attitude and shenanigans of Holly. She’s very young and immature so that explains a lot. I love Nicole’s books, but in this one I mostly enjoyed the other characters from her past books (Blood, Undertaker, Sandman, and So-Cal).
These two, omg, they sure loved to push each others buttons! But Holly really needed someone as strong and compassionate as Joker. He was for sure everything she had no idea she needed.
Woohoo!! Joker was a really great guy I’m this book! Loyal and protective the whole way! I was very impressed with him being a younger MC member. He was everything Holly needed and everything she didn’t know she wanted. Loved this book!
3.5 stars. Not bad, I’ve read the other books by this author. so I knew what happened to Holly, but saying that I did forget most of it, and I really would have liked a re-cap of what she had been through. If your starting out reading this book then I was highly recommend you read the whole series first. Holly was a brat but you knew she was acting that why to hide behind pain, but like I said, I think this book should have delved deeper so we as a reader could have understoood her pain more. I did like Holly and Joker’ connection, worth a read if you have KU, but I probably wouldn’t read it again.
The writing in this 9th book in The Evil Dead MC is really good. The storyline is interesting and catching up with past couples is always exciting. However I just really could not connect with Joker and Holly. Her antics were just childish and ridiculous.
NOTE: I still have issues with the lack of condoms. It doesn't take much to write a condom into a scene and it doesn't take away from the heat either. They are bikers, you have to know every is going through our heads. Ewe.
When Holly appeared in the series with Cat . Undertaker took her under his wing when she became attached to him ;after he rescued her ..I wondered how it would turn out with her character.
It’s a Beautiful ending to the traumatized past ... Uniting Holly ‘s story with Skeeter ‘s Son .. Which the President before he passed away ... told Undertaker((( who becomes the President )) to watch out for and groom for the MC if the time came “ 💥💥Magnificent pairing.
Joker a witty hard core biker with a heart of gold & passion like no other for a young biker coming into this life . Now with the connection to the lovely & healing Holly . Two souls to grow together & be everything they both need . Both losing their fathers so young . For Cat & Holly it shows you can succeed even when both parents are absent from your life & you can find family in other places in life . Open your heart to possibilities.
Note : It seems inferred that more happened to Holly when she was held captive.. yet in the Book for Blood . BRB said she wouldn’t be touched because she would be sold to higher end client . Keeping that in mind . Holly is never come out and said in these stories she was not harmed sexually. I’m just glad it never said she was used that way .
Note ~ I’m Trying to get permission to summit my WOLF REVIEW again .. .. it was the only book in this series that I didn’t have a 💯 % good opinion of .
The rest of this series simply solid reading happiness!!!
First off I have to say that I love Nicole James’ books, they are instant purchases and I’ve never failed to get my money’s worth and “Joker” was worth the money. I freaking love this series from the originals to the New Orleans bunch. “Blood” and “Undertaker “ were two of my favorites and it’s fitting that we now get Holly’s story since she was important to the other two stories. Holly was kidnapped, sold and traumatized by brutal men, then rescued by Undertaker. Who would blame her for crushing on the older, totally sexy Undertaker, but he’s moved on in his life and wants Holly to also. He makes Joker her shadow and protector, which doesn’t go over very well with either of them. The back and forth between these two is hilarious and their falling in love stage is so worth the read. Joker is so amazing...just love this couple. Also love that we get to revisit all the crew, like I said, I really do love this series! Definitely recommended read, but do yourself a favor and go back to book 1 and read up, you won’t regret it.
Joker ... I guess it didn't occur to me that I would enjoy his book. I didn't really like Holly in Blood or Undertaker's books, she just didn't feel fleshed out (yet?).
So I enjoyed Joker and his commitment to his MC, and he tried so hard to follow the one rule that Undertaker gave him... so, so hard. He kept his head on his shoulders even when I would have locked Holly in a closet because she just kept being an absolute brat.
Holly was... meh. I didn't hate her. I realize that not knowing about the entire situation she went through made Joker's job that much harder (bad call by Undertaker) but she seems to have forgotten exactly what she went through and why she needs to be watched and protected. This ... annoyed me.
Otherwise, this was a good fast read for me. I', excited to see what else we get from Nicole through the rest of the year and next. She has some promising stories coming up.
FRAGILE FLOWER vs FIERCE PROTECTOR, WHO'LL WILL WHEN THE WAR
A Mizz Nicole has done another amBALLS romance in thud Book 8 of her Evil Dead MC series. I couldn't wait to read Undertake's story & I wasn't disappointed. So many plots that went into different directions that I was at the edge of my seat. Mizz Nicole loves to twist up my mind & goes in crazy direction with her tale. Again the BROmance of the Evil Dead MC crew was hilarious & heart warming, as these tough of dogs show their true Brotherhood in the own way. Mizz Nicole gets another one of my top scores of 5 fingers up & 10 toes for this opposite attract romance that follows the true fears of both AJ & Undertaker. protector, Joker, is tasked to by the Evil Dead MC Prez, Undertaker, to be Holly's shadow as resumes her life again, one catch is she completely OFF LIMITS. Holly is a fragile flower to can't seem to bloom back into the laughing, carefree college girl she used to be. After being kidnapped & trafficked to New Orleans' cruelest pimp, she tries to go back to her normal life. She soon learns Joker is going to be her bodyguard to watch over her, but what she really wants to kill!! These two crazy kids begin a game of cat & mouse as she acts out & he's tried out of pulling her out of dangerous situations. Joker needs relief from this brat, but can't stop think about her against any object to get down & dirty. Holly's get her sweet revenge of his controlling ways, but tempting him as much as possible. Can Joker keep his hands to myself? Will Holly dedication work? Will Undertaker ever take Holly off the MC OFF LIMITS list?
Mizz Nicole is a true storyteller of what I call Forbidden Fruit Syndrome. Tells ever person that can't have someone, it like putting a red flashing light that you can't ignore. Holly & Joker as a hoot to read about as they stalk one another like two cage tigers. Mizz Nicole also doesn't disappoint with the hot bootie knockin' going on. Of the BROmance is also front & center, but the girls' club is also going strong in this tale, plus Undertaker & AJ go into labor!! I'm not telling cause y'all need to read for yourselves!! I give this Evil Dead MC series book 9 my top score of 5 fingers up & 10 toes.
Joker by Nicole James is the ninth book in the Evil Dead MC series. The MC is located in New Orleans which adds some interesting color to the books. Joker is asked by his President to guard Holly, a job he takes with reluctance.
Holly has been through some awful things including being kidnapped. She needs to go out on her own and pick up her life, but is not sure how. Joker’s job is to keep her safe and in school. A babysitter for a brat. Just what he wants. NOT. Holly really puts Joker through the wringer and Joker pushes all of her buttons, sometimes on purposes. The two of them were cute together when they weren’t being jerks. Joker has some baggage that shows up and causes havoc in his world which hurts Holly….
Joker and Holly are young, hot and in lust. Joker by Nicole James is a good read.
