An excellent book for the thread sketching beginner.
At last! A well written short book that gets right to the point. Deborah Wirsu clearly guides us through the basics on setting up the sewing machine in preparation for sketching, and believe me, this is an essential element before sewing.
There are few pictures but I don't think this really matters because the book focuses on the technical aspect rather than end results. I read for free via my Kindle. I highly recommend this book.
Unfortunately, I think my skill level is past this book, but I still recommend it for anyone wanting to try thread sketching or thread painting! Gives an almost encyclopedic definition of tools and techniques used, but in a clear, conversational tone rather than one that's dry and boring. The projects were a little too bland for my taste (my tastes often run to the esoteric), though I love the clean simplicity of the cover art project!
Very informative. I already had some experience with the concept, and the tips in the book will be useful to improve my quilting, embellishments on clothes and other pieces.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to develop new skills, or to improve those you have already begun. Go for it!
The author is very thorough. She covers every tool and method for beginning thread painting. Her projects graduate from simple to more complicated, but each is progressively doable by the beginner sewer. Her explanations about needles, threads and stabilizers are valuable for any level sewer.
I genuinely think this is the best guide to free motion embroidery for the complete beginner. Easy to follow and clearly written there is no extraneous filler, just the right amount of information on a variety of topics including machine set up, tension, needles, fabric and stabilisation. With some fun projects at the end to apply the knowledge.
I am very interested in learning to thread sketch and machine embroidery, this books helps with all the steps needed to learn and understand all the steps and techniques.
Wonderfully written with everything you need to know to begin a successful work of art. Charming. I'm excited to practice and explore new ideas. Thank you.
I learned so many things. I have been sewing for a long time but not regularly. The book not only shows you step by step. I learned about sewing machines also!
