Basic overview of acupressure terms with reference to Traditional Chinese Medicine. I can’t speak to the accuracy of the content here. Some illustrations were more helpful than others. It was not always clear which side of the body was being referenced. There was a big jump from accessible language and defining terms to specific anatomical nomenclature beyond my knowledge base. I appreciated the section dedicated to “self-care” treatment plans for common complaints like lower back pain or headache. I’m sure this barely skims the surface.

A special thank you to NetGalley who provided the advance copy. And to Fair Winds Press, an imprint of the Quarto Publishing Group, whose publications are dedicated to teaching readers healthy life practices.

Press Here! Acupressure for Beginners is designed to be an educational and informative piece of literature. The goal of this publication is to give readers access to the information while providing instructions for its usage. The book focuses on acupressure in its natural and holistic form, qi, while also using illustrations to supplement is modern benefits.

Authored by Bob Doto, a practitioner with a background in yoga, the book gives an organized overview of acupressure. Doto gives a background on qi, what it is and how it can be used. He explains the meridians, or the lines in which the acupoints can be found. The book also guides you in your approach to using these methods from breathing techniques, applying pressure in its varied forms to versatile benefits.

Doto’s explanations give examples of the acupoints usefulness and purpose along with an illustration for reference. Combined, the information and the illustration allow someone unfamiliar with acupressure, or qi, to potentially find relief. What makes Press Here! Acupressure for Beginners truly helpful is the index located at the back that allows the reader to search based on ailment: back pain, headache, sinus pressure, fatigue, anxiety, and menstrual cramps to name a few. Care can be self administered for many of the acupoints and cover a range of issues including physical, mental, and emotional.

Press Here! Acupressure for Beginners is categorized in the genres of Health, Mind & Body, and Self-Help. Holistic Medicine, Therapy, Massage and Meditation could also be a sub-category for the above. The book spans eastern medicinal traditions and western practices to provide a method grounded in science and nature.

One helpful tip would be to have a small collection of medical terms on hand. This will be a great aid for understanding, both in medical terms and visually, what you should be looking for. Doto uses terms such as radial (radius, the forearm bone on the thumb side), anterior (front of), posterior (back/rear of), mandible (jaw bone), masseter (muscle of mastication, related to mandible), and zygomatic arch (zygoma, the cheek bone). Without a prior knowledge or understanding of anatomy the terms will most likely be lost on the reader.

While Press Here! Acupressure for Beginners is a valuable tool for the anatomy aficionado, Doto fails to provide supplementary information to give readers a better understanding of the acupoints they are attempting to locate. One serious issue this could have would be for a beginner, one who has no medical or anatomy background, to attempt one of the acupoints incorrectly, which would result in harm rather than alleviate or aid the reader. Ultimately, all readers should use caution when attempting acupressure if not certain of the anatomical structures or repercussions if used improperly.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review.

The setup of Press Here! Acupressure for Beginners: How to Release and Balance Energy Flow by Bob Doto reminded me of the setup of Press Here! Massage for Beginners: A Simple Route to Relaxation and Releasing Tension by Rachel Beider. They both have colorful illustrations to highlight different parts of the body. They show different techniques for specific issues or different parts of the body. Both also show how to work on others and on yourself. Both are written for beginners but include beneficial information for those who are familiar with the activities.

I have always been interested in Acupuncture but have not experienced it. When I heard about Acupressure I was intrigued. I suffer from Sinusitis and other issues which this book focuses on. I am attempting to relieve some on the pain and, hopefully, to save money on doctor's visit.

I had difficulty reading the ebook. The print was small and, when zoomed in, the page would go blank. I eventually took a screenshots so I could zoom in to make the print large enough to read comfortably. Some of the fonts were blurry even when not zoomed it. However, the information I learned was worth the hassle.

As a mother I can't tell you how much pain I have in my back, head and lets face it everywhere.

When I saw this pop up for review I knew I had to read this. I am always looking for a natural way to help my body, and mind heal after a long day as mom. Not to mention teach my children how to heal after their long days.

Information is present in a "proven method" however readers need to remember that it is proven to this author but not medical science. The text explains the areas well but the art work is cartoonist and makes it harder to find the location on the body.

The editing, cartoonist art work and font type used in this book will be distracting to most readers and will not take this author or book serious. Which is sad due to the experience and information this author has for readers the editing and design makes it unappealing to mass audience.

I received this book, for free, in exchange for an honest reviI received this book, for free, in exchange for an honest review.

I haven't read many books on Acupressure, but this one seems like it'd be better than most. It goes over acupressure technique and various accupressure points. It also recommends points for various conditions. My only complaint is that despite the excellent text and cartoon depictions of the location it can still be hard to picture. I wish that bone formations were used (not just in the text) but in the pictures as it would help me find points better.

This is my first resource on this topic and personally I feel that it's a very approachable book on Acupressure. It helped me learn the basics of the practice and honestly I have reaped some benefits from it.

However, I would like for the book to have had a glossary of some sort to describe certain technical terms, such as "thoracic vertebra." I know that I could have googled it but I try to avoid to reach for my phone whilst reading a book.

Good information for those interested in alternative medicine, but unfortunately everything is presented as scientific facts. The concepts here have never been proven, even though something can be felt, like pain relief. Calling it medicine is therefore misleading.
The layout and figures are beautiful, but some old fashion fonts are not all clear and a little distracting.

Good overview and potentially useful reference, perfect for beginners. I leave it at "potential" because I want something meatier, but it might be right for others if they don't really want to go deeper.

As a longtime believer in acupuncture, I’m surprised I’ve never tried acupressure! I’m finding this book to be an excellent guide to beginning to understand how it all works. Right now I’m experiencing a lot of sinus congestion and ear ringing and am using this book to guide me in giving myself some much needed relief.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book is a great introduction to Acupressure. I found this subject to be very complex, yet interesting and informative. The information is in-depth and the pictures help to show the techniques described. I feel confident enough to use what I learned for minor relief for pain.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
