Finding Home #1

Finding Home Volume 1: The Traveller

Rate this book
Finding Home is a slow-burn romance/drama comic set in a fantasy world, with a focus on nature, emotion and the small moments that change how you feel about someone.

Having abandoned his wood nymph family and spent a disastrous few years failing to fit in among humans, Chepi now travels alone, avoiding making friends or staying anywhere too long. That is, until he ends up on the road with someone he can’t seem to keep his distance from - Janek.

As the story begins, Janek just wants to get home and is happy to have a travelling companion on the way. But the closer they become, the more he’s drawn to Chepi, and the more he finds out about his nightmares, magic and troubling past…

This was sooo cute! I'm so glad for Alice Oseman and her wonderful Instagram recommendations, without her I wouldn't be able to read such lovely things. The story is very nice and also interesting but I think it's really going to pick up in the second volume. There were a lot of things I enjoyed in this one though, such as the artwork and colours the author used, and also the groundwork that was laid. I can't wait to read more about Chepi and Janek and see how their relationship evolves.

The characters are so distinct and so amazingly developed.

I love how atmospheric the whole graphic novel is!

I love the unique artstyle and the clever use of mixing and putting the colours in the illustrations. So well done!

The main characters get frustrating at times but it's so realistically written in a way that showcases the emotions damn beautifully that it's difficult to ignore them.

Love the first volume.

I would definitely go for the rest of the series!🍂

i will never be able to write a review for this because i could never do it justice but it's hari's birthday today and it would mean the world to me if y'all would give this webcomic a chance because it deserves all the love in the world.

you can find volume 1 and a part of volume 2 here on tapas and webtoons:
https://tapas.io/series/FindingHome/ep1
https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge...

and if you can please support hari on patreon, they have a lot of extra content, up to 100 pages of the comic in advance (up to the end of volume 2) and they deserve the world.

A beautifully drawn graphic novel about a healer fey who can grow flowers (!) and a chef, who are travelling together across their country. Along the way, they get to know each other, and we get to learn more about their fascinating, magic world. This is a slow burn romance, and the two men don't get together in this volume, but the others are already published - I'm super excited to read the next one. The art really makes this one - their expressions give so much information, and there is a diary full of illustrations kept along the route by the character included too. Really lovely and magical!

(i read it on tapas but I would 100% buy it)

Okay this is still ongoing but I love it so far! The story is quite simple so far and it's about building a relationship between the MCs while also showing Chepi's past. However you can see there's a lot of research and world building behind every sentence/panel.

I plan on catching up with it every time a new page comes out because it's really really good

Hermoso. Janek es un tierno y me encanta que las flores demuestren las emociones de Chepi.
A seguir con el volumen 2 que está disponible para leer en inglés en Tapas.

the drawing style is gorgeous!!!! i found the setting very beautiful and i think i just wish it had been longer. the characters were interesting but not especially engaging for me, i just wish i had gotten into the story quicker. i am not a big graphic novel reader, so i'm still trying to find what works best for me.

Conner's comic was a slower burn than I was anticipating, waiting for a payoff or climax that did not arrive. I think my expectations of this text, were influenced by the positive reviews I had heard before reading. That being said I still enjoyed the comic and plan to continue the series.

I absolutely love the art style in this comic. So detailed, beautiful colour palettes, and interesting layouts. On top of that, the characters are complex and revealed to the reader like an onion - layer by layer. I'm very excited to read the other volumes.

So warm, sweet, and gentle. Characters that are so neatly formed and so easy to fall in love with. The world, as well, is very compelling and interesting. General style gorgeous. Can't recommend it ENOUGH. I love it

gods, this is so beautiful. lush illustrations, soft narrative progress, real depth of feeling in the character interactions. i'd love to keep meandering through this world - which seems massive! - with these characters.

The idea and art style is awesome! I just have a bit of a hard time getting into it. It feels like I'm being dropped into the middle of an ongoing story, like starting with book 2 or something.

huge fan of hari's story and art. been following finding home on tapas since alice oseman recommended it during an inksgiving, though i recommend this print format (which i backed through kickstarter) just for ease of reading. hari's story is so detailed in both the plot and the execution, that i have to / get to spend more time than usual with each page, picking up clues from chepi's flowers, the color palettes used in each chapter, and the body language that says more than chepi (and even janek) let on. this first volume gets you well-situated in chepi's origin and the work he's been doing on his journey, so you understand how and why he is traveling in this manner, and what that means is going to change as janek gets closer to him and to home.

A human cook with little to no wilderness skills and a faerie healer with absolutely no cooking skills travel together. Slowburn romance ensue. That is, in a nutshell, the basis of the plot of Finding Home. And with that, I don't even know where to start to tell you how perfect this comic is.

You think you're in for a story about a cook and a healer simply travelling together across forests and countryside but before you even get the time to say "Chepi", you're on a journey with faes, magic and dangerous dark spirits (the wisps). At times, it is very oneiric and contemplative, taking you directly into the dreamy parts of this fantasy universe. The two main character, loveable and relatable, are gifted with a good and realistic characterization. Through them, Hari manages to tackle issues like prejudice and discrimination, abuse, toxic relationship, anxiety, or self-confidence issues and imposter syndrome without having any of these topics ever feeling out of place, making Finding Home a tale about overcoming your own dark spirits. Let's not forget about the marvellous and incredible art. This is quite probably one of the most beautiful comics I have ever read. The characters expressions are spot on, the nature is gorgeous, the work on light is amazing and the colours are just stunning. I will never get tired of the way Hari draws flowers.

Even if you don't think it's your kind of speed, still give it a shot, at least just to see how beautiful the drawing is and maybe (probably), before you even have the time to say "Janek", you will already be so into it that you won't be able to stop.

You can read Finding Home on Tapas but let’s not forget to support our artists if/when we can.

Well, it's really 2,5 stars, rounded up.

First of all, I really, really disliked the pages written in cursive, especially the first one (pag. 37). It took almost five minutes to try reading it and having to guess most of the words. I don't know, maybe the room was a bit dark, maybe the writing was a bit too small, or the letters were too cursive (if that's even possible). Truth is I really struggled with those pages and in the end I just skimmed through them. Jeez, it took forever to decipher Priya's name.

The story was really slow and I couldn't see where it was going. Still can't. Just two people walking in the woods of a magical place. Chepi is frustrating: he keeps having nightmares and flashes from his past but they're a bit confusing. I couldn't get his story straight. I wish I had his bag, though. That would be fantastic; almost as good as Hermione's beaded bag.

I know it's a first volume and everything, but a little more meat around the pages would have done it good. I guess there's still time for that.

The art is wonderful. I love the color and I love the way the character are drawn.

I'll back the second one, for sure. After all, three stars mean «I like it».

Fantastic graphic novel with heart, humor, low-simmer-romance, and very neat magical aspects!

Conner has built an incredible world from the ground up, blending fantasy with Asian and Indian cultures to create a vibrant and deep world that you will want to get lost in. Their characters are real and wonderful and shy and cute and you want to hold them tight and protect them from the monsters in heir mind.

An ongoing webcomic you NEED to go check it out for yourself right now!

If you like fantastical locations, deep-rooted character development, and a slow and steady journey: read this book!

This is an ongoing webcomic on Tapas, and it is one of the most beautiful graphic novels I’ve ever read. The slow burn romance is just wow. The art style is stunning. The protagonists, Chepi and Janek, are wonderfully developed.

The beautiful artwork and amazing storytelling really sucks you into this world and makes you want to continue to read. The author and illustrator did a wonderful job of building the world and characters. It really does jump off the page and makes you feel part of their story. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes complex relationship building and integrated backstory. Again the artwork alone is worth reading the graphic novel.

This book starts describing the relationship between the two travellers, entangled in a particular language made out of flowers and emotions. They will get closer while surrounded by magnificent forests.
The book is full of exquisite illustrations, and includes glimpses of an universe with magic and strange creatures.
I love how the storyteller takes their time to show us how this relationship began. I am looking forward to continuing with books 2 & 3!
