The moment that the horn first appeared, Ystella hated it. She learned how to hide it from her family and the herd, but it involved time in the shop every few weeks. Grinding off a unicorn horn also made for some interesting side effects and taking care of the magical residue became a frenzied event.
With her family prodding her toward any available stallion, Ystella has to obey the rules, while completely avoiding them. Her technique has kept her from any entanglements, but her mother is catching on.
Magnus is a hunter sent to find the anomaly in the area. There is a mythical shifter where no mythical shifter should be and it is his job to identify it and bring it to the council; whether it wants to go or not.
New magic was dangerous and needed to be indexed, catalogued and identified. Magnus has never been so willing to throw himself into the path of danger. He has a hard side. He can take it.
Zenina Masters was born in Canada and lives in Canada. She has a regular job and does nothing particularly exciting with her life. She enjoys fishing, silence and the ability to pick and choose friends she can trust. Life is too short to watch your back all the time.
Her writing life is a teeny bit of escapism, she would probably chicken out if confronted by three naked men and looks forward to one day finding out.
Another slightly insane and entertaining idea from Zenina, I just don't think she pulled it off this time. Compared to the previous book, this one had barely any story or plot at all.
Unicorns are magical and one of the most sought after mythical creatures. So why is it that Ystella is doing her own "Hell Boy" impression by grinding off her horn. It is puzzling until the reader meets Ystella's family. This matriarchal clan follows the herd mentality and any outlier is treated and viewed with suspicion. Ystella passive aggressively fights the status quo with the support of her father. Her father understands since he isn't a horse like her mother.
Ystella's unexpected exile gives her the chance to run free. Free into the Crossroads and explore herself. Before she can get there, there is a bit of a scare when Ystella's wild magic draws the attention of a mage hunter. The merry chase leads Ystella straight to the place she's been seeking.
Once again, Ms. Master pens a lively tale with two lovers discovering each other's magic. The story moves at a fast gallop with Ystella and Magnus on a collision course. Their mating dance is sweet and predictable. What is a bit different in this story is how Ystella perceives how her family will respond to her shifter animal versus how they really respond. This just goes to show, believing what how another person will respond is merely a guess. It's nice to see that not every book in this series has dysfunctional families.
For those who have read this series, this is a lovely addition. For those who just picked this series up with this book, it can be read as a standalone. All of these stories are delicious bedtime stories recommended for paranormal romance lovers.
Bright Side is a fun, fascinating read, but too short for my liking. The story's world is wonderful. The main characters were very strong individuals who needed to be released from familial ties to be themselves and have a future. I loved that I got another glimpse of side characters that I had read about in previous stories.
I have loved this series since I read the first book in this series and it just keeps getting better and better and I can't wait for more and I will be watching and waiting for more to come and I hope it's soon....
I am so happy you are writing again. I have missed your stories. Bright Side is wonderful! I smiled all the way through. I look forward to the next installment.
Ystella was born to a unicorn who does not want to stand out because of being in a stallion family. Ystella learned to hide from the herd because she does not want them to find out what she is. Then she finds out there is a hunter after her. Now would be time to buy the book to find out what happens to the people in the book.
