When Billy stole an ancient relic from under the nose of a Demidemon, he ticked off some of the most powerful beings in reality. Enraged, The Winged King recruits Mr. Fingers; a demon with the ability to manipulate emotions—and use them as a weapon. Now, hunted by the lethal emotional assassin, Billy must find the source of Mr. Finger’s power before the city he loves tears itself apart.
Author of books, destroyer of worlds. Writing isn't so much a job as a compulsion. Billy Blacksmith: The Demonslayer won the Gold Quill for YA Novel of the Year 2017, presented by the League of Utah Writers.
Well-deserved Five Star Review. Fresh, witty writing, with so much heart.
The third Billy Blacksmith book surprised the heck out of me. In this book, Billy is trying to figure out how to find Mr. Fingers, an emotion-eating demon who is feeding off the hate of others, making the entire town crazy with anger. I gravitated to this idea of a book that directly speaks about emotions, specifically the ones we face as teenagers. It's such a great idea. It bridges the insecurity of not fitting our own skin with believing in someone so much one cannot be swayed. Depression, bullying, self-worth... these are all themes I found through out. I was impressed with how deeply personal it became to me.
But this wasn't a heavy read, in fact, the humor is spot-on and very well-balanced. It's like Billy says or thinks something fun right at the right moment to lighten the heaviness. The situational scene direction charmed me, like I was watching a cinematic movie screen instead of words on a page, and it made it such a joy to read. Such a great human connection within the paragraphs made every scene something to look forward to.
I've never read anything like this. It's a unique idea and I was not prepared for the introspection I felt when finishing it. I gladly place The Ironsoul as one of the best books I have ever read. I loved it, beginning to end, and I'm so obsessed with the world that I can't wait to see what comes next.
Ireland keeps surprising me. I feel lucky to have found this series early. It's very cinematic and clever. It's turning into a series I will follow forever.
I didn’t realize when I picked up this book that it was going to change my life. But it did. There was so much I took away from this story about how I could approach my own life and those influences and frustrations that get in the way of my better self. The Iron Soul is more than an entertaining YA novel. It’s about bad influences and bullying, spite and retaliation, loneliness and isolation, unconditional loyalty and friendship, and most of all – choosing to do the right thing, even when you think it’s impossible! Our hero, Billy Blacksmith, seems to be a pathetic orphan. But he is, indeed, an “Iron Soul” – and I want to learn to be as brave and unyielding as he is in the face of danger, or worse, ridicule.
An incredible book by a gifted author. A very important book for our times!
I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the other two in the series as well. Billy is a great kid who is thrown into extraordinary circumstances. I think that these books show how a real teenager in Billy's position might feel. He is still going through the same teenage stuff we all went through even though he is one of the most powerful beings in the universe. I really relate to Billy. He is a LOT like I was when I was in high school. I am excited for the next books in this series.
A classic fantasy / horror young adult fiction with a dramatic conclusion.
Billy's best friend, Ash-Lea, is the Ironsoul - one gifted with determination and a sense of personal integrity. But will it be enough to stop the demon hoards pressing in against the Threshold to invade Earth and all the moral realm?
I really enjoyed the book - good pace, real characters, nuanced humour - it had it all. In this reader's humble opinion: Better than Brandon Sanderson!
